Abstract
This work describes the study of the removal of a refractory contaminant, i.e., Hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) from aqueous systems by a novel adsorbent comprising Cr(VI) tolerant bacteria and zero valent iron nanoparticle (nZVI). A gram-positive, rod-shaped bacteria used in the study were isolated from wastewater (WW) received from the effluent of leather industries. The adsorbents were prepared with bacteria, nZVI alone, and a combination of both. The adsorbent comprising both elements was found to remove Cr(VI) with a higher percentage (93%) and higher capacities (0.58 mg/g) as compared to adsorbent with bacteria (Cr(VI) removal = 63%, qe = 0.163 mg/g) or nanoparticles (Cr(VI) removal = 80%, qe = 0.45 mg/g) alone. The adsorbent worked best at neutral pH, and the removal became saturated after 90 min of incubation. Equilibrium studies with isotherm modeling suggested that the adsorption process follows sips isotherm (R2 = 0.9955), which is expected to bean intra-particle diffusion process before the actual adsorption. Process kinetics was modeled with pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order, and Vermeulen model. The diffusion coefficient determined by fitting the kinetic data to Vermeulen model was found to be 0.0000314 cm2/s. The adsorbent can be tested further for continuous flow processes to find more insights about the usage on a large scale.

Abstract
The development of modern building materials science involves the process of designing innovative materials that exhibit unique characteristics, such as energy efficiency, environmental friendliness, self-healing ability, and photocatalytic properties. This can be achieved by modifying cement with nano- and fine-dispersed additives that can give the material new properties. Such additives include a number of compounds based on the TiO2-Bi2O3 system. These compounds have photocatalytic activity in the near-UV and visible range of the spectrum, which can serve to create photocatalytic concretes. Here, the purpose of this scientific study was to synthesize compounds based on the TiO2-Bi2O3 system using two methods in order to identify the most optimal variant for creating a composite material and determine its properties. Within the framework of this article, two methods of obtaining a photocatalytically active additive based on the TiO2-Bi2O3 system are considered: the solid-state and citrate-based methods. The photocatalytic, mechanical and structural properties of composites containing the synthesized additive are investigated. In this study, it was found that for the creation of photocatalytic concretes, it is advisable to use cement compositions with a bismuth titanate content of 3-10 wt.%. of the cement content, regardless of the method of obtaining the additive. However, the most optimal composition is one containing 5 wt.% of the synthesized additive. It is noted that compositions containing 5% by weight of bismuth titanate demonstrate photocatalytic activity and also show an increase in strength on the first day of hardening by 10% for the solid-state method and 16% for the citrate method.

Abstract
A Bi12TiO20/RGO photocatalyst with polyhedron microstructure was fabricated via the template-free hydrothermal method, and the visible-light-induced photocatalytic activity of the prepared Bi12TiO20 was also evaluated by the photocatalytic reduction of heavy metal pollutants. The structures and optical properties of the prepared Bi12TiO20/RGO were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectrum (UV–vis DRS). The effects of the reaction time and mineralizer concentration on the formation of the Bi12TiO20 polyhedral microstructure were analyzed. The enhanced photocatalytic performances of Bi12TiO20/RGO were observed which were ascribed to the combination of the Bi12TiO20 microstructure induced photogenerated charges and the RGO nanostructure as a photogenerated charges carrier. The effect of organic acids, p-hydroxybenzoic acid (PHBA), chloroacetic acid, and citric acid on the Cr(VI) photocatalytic reduction was also discussed. This work provides an insight into the design of the bismuth-based microstructure photocatalyst towards the application for environment purification of heavy metals.

Abstract
Highly efficient photocatalysts have great development prospects in wastewater treatment, especially in the degradation of organic pollutants and reduction of inorganic heavy metal ions. Herein, a Z-scheme ZnTiO3/Zn2Ti3O8/ZnO ternary photocatalyst was prepared by the solvothermal-calcination method and the influence of the content of tetrabutyl titanate precursor and different reaction temperature on the crystal phase structures, photoelectrochemical properties and photocatalytic activities of the samples were investigated. Due to its unique Z-scheme structure and suitable band gap position, which is favorable for the efficient migration and separation of photo-generated electrons and holes and the improvement of photocatalytic redox reaction capability, the samples show excellent performance for the degradation of organic pollutants and reduction of heavy metal Cr(VI) ions. Based on a series of characterization analyses, a possible Z-scheme photocatalytic mechanism is proposed. This work provides a simple preparation method for fabrication of multivariate heterojunction photocatalyst for degradation of organic pollutants and removal of heavy metal ions.

Abstract
In order to develop efficient photocatalysts, great efforts have been made to reduce hexavalent chromium to trivalent chromium. The photocatalytic efficiency of this reduction depends largely on the adsorption and diffusion of hexavalent chromium ions on the surface of the photocatalyst. In this paper, polyaniline-TiO2 composite can effectively improve the photocatalytic reduction performance and stability of hexavalent chromium ion. The effect of polyaniline (PANI) thickness on Cr(VI) activity and stability of photocatalytic reduction was studied by adjusting the content of PANI on Mesoporous TiO2 (MT) surface. Under the irradiation conditions, the reaction results showed that the reduction rate was 100%, and the maximum reaction rate reached 0.62 min-1 when the PANI modification was 3.0%. Moreover, the results showed that the reduction performance remained 100% after ten cycles. The main reason is that the PANI modified on the surface of TiO2 is rich in positively charged amino group, which can efficiently adsorb the reactant Cr(VI), and make the product Cr(III) leave the reaction interface quickly, thus ensuring the performance of photocatalyst.

Abstract
Facilitating the separation of photogenerated electron/hole pairs and widening the light-responsive region are crucial to enhance the overall photocatalytic performance of photocatalysts. To achieve this aim, here we have prepared Ag2S/Bi4Ti3O12 heterojunction composite photocatalysts by assembling Ag2S quantum dots onto the surface of Bi4Ti3O12 nanosheets. Transmission electron microscopy observation demonstrates that two types of Ag2S quantum dots separately with size of 40-70 and 7-17 nm are uniformly assembled onto the surface of large-sized Bi4Ti3O12 thin nanosheets. The as-prepared Ag2S/Bi4Ti3O12 heterojunction composites exhibit much enhanced light absorption (particularly in the visible and near-infrared region) and highly efficient separation of electrons and holes photogenerated in Bi4Ti3O12. Rhodamine B (RhB) aqueous solution was chosen as the target organic pollutant to evaluate the photocatalytic performance of the samples under simulated sunlight irradiation. It is found that the Ag2S/Bi4Ti3O12 heterojunction composites manifest significantly enhanced photocatalytic activity toward the RhB degradaton. In particular, the 15wt% Ag2S/Bi4Ti3O12 composite exhibits the highest photocatalytic activity, which is ca. 2.8 and 4.0 times higher than bare Bi4Ti3O12 and Ag2S, respectively. The enhanced photocatalytic activity of the composites can be explained as a result of the Z-scheme electron transfer from the conduction band of Bi4Ti3O12 to the valence band of Ag2S, and thus more photogenerated holes in the valence band of Bi4Ti3O12 and electrons in the conduction band of Ag2S are able to participate in the photocatalytic reactions. Active species trapping experiments were carried out, from which it is concluded that photogenerated holes and •O2- radicals play the dominant and secondary role in the photocatalysis, respectively.
