Abstract
The extensive use of the antibiotic oxytetracycline (OTC) has led to considerable environmental contamination and other negative impacts, prompting an urgent need for a green, effective, and innovative OTC adsorption material. In this study, diatom-allophane bio-nanocomposites were synthesized using a simple and eco-friendly method, yielding a homogeneous coating of allophane nanoparticles on diatom surfaces. The resultant bio-nanocomposites were found to have hierarchically porous structures and abundant active sites derived from successful allophane loading and dispersion on diatom surfaces. The OTC adsorption capacity of this novel adsorbent is remarkable (219.112 mg·g-1), surpassing the capacities of raw allophane and diatoms by >5 and 10 times, respectively. Mechanistically, OTC adsorption by the bio-nanocomposites was found to be driven primarily by chemisorption through a process involving complexation between the amide and amino groups on OTC and the aluminum hydroxyl and carboxyl groups on the adsorbent surface. Electrostatic interactions and hydrogen bonding also contribute significantly to OTC capture. Furthermore, the diatom-allophane bio-nanocomposites exhibit excellent performance over a wide pH range (4-7), in the presence of various cations (Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+) and anions (Cl-, NO3-, SO42-), and in real water bodies. These findings demonstrate the potential of the diatom-allophane bio-nanocomposite as a green, efficient, and promising biological-mineral adsorbent for environmental remediation, leveraging the combined utilization of biological and mineral resources.

Abstract
Molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) is dedicated to the adsorption of target substances in the aqueous phase, but ignores the adsorption in a more complex environment (oily wastewater). In order to explore the application field of existing MIPs, acorn-like Janus particles were fabricated by photo-initiated seed swelling polymerization. A novel amphiphilic Janus-MIP was prepared with the acorn-like Janus particles as matrix, methacrylic acid, ethylene dimethacrylate and oxytetracycline (OTC) as functional monomers, crosslinking agents and template molecules via surface initiated-atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP). For comparison, the poly (glycidyl methacrylate-co-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) (poly (GMA-co-EDMA)) microspheres were also utilized as the matrix to prepare common spherical-MIP. The adsorption capacity of Janus-MIP for OTC was 23.8 mg g-1 in oil-water system, while the adsorption capacity of spherical-MIP for OTC was only 12.6 mg g-1 in the same system. At the same time, through high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis, Janus-MIP can specifically recognize and adsorb trace OTC in restaurant oily wastewater samples, and the proposed method exhibited a lower limit of detection (LOD, 3 ng mL-1) and a higher OTC recovery rate (94.2 %-98.4 %). This work demonstrated great potential for the detection and control of OTC contamination from real samples in an oil-water mixed environment.

Abstract
The presence of antibiotics in water sources is a significant concern due to their potential environmental impact and the risks to human health. In the present research, hierarchically mesoporous UiO-66 (HP-UiO-66) with a high surface area (1011 m2/g) and large pore volume was synthesized using the reflux method on the liter scale. The successful synthesis was confirmed by FT-IR, XRD, FESEM/EDS, N2-adsorption/desorption, and zeta potential techniques. The HP-UiO-66 was utilized to remove two large structure antibiotics, chlortetracycline hydrochloride (CTC), and oxytetracycline (OTC). Box Behnken design was used to investigate the factors affecting the removal process and the interactions between them. The maximum adsorption capacities for OTC and CTC antibiotics were 252.9 mg/g and 234.2 mg/g at 35 °C, respectively. The sum of the normalized error method was applied to the analysis of various error functions in the nonlinear fitting of equilibrium and kinetic data. The CTC and OTC adsorption kinetic followed a fractal-like pseudo-second-order model. The Langmuir isotherm fitted well to adsorption data. The results demonstrate that HP-UiO-66 can be used as a recyclable and efficient adsorbent for large molecule antibiotics removal.

Abstract
Thousands of chemicals have been released into the environment in recent decades. The presence of emerging contaminants (ECs) in water has emerged as a pressing concern. Adsorption is a viable solution for the removal of ECs. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have shown great potential as efficient adsorbents, but their dispersed powder form limits their practical applications. Recently, researchers have developed various separable MOF-based adsorbents to improve their recyclability. The purpose of this review is to summarize the latest developments in the construction of separable MOF-based adsorbents and their applications in adsorbing ECs. The construction strategies for separable MOFs are classified into four categories: magnetic MOFs, MOF-fiber composites, MOF gels, and binder-assisted shaping. Typical emerging contaminants include pesticides, pharmaceuticals and personal care products, and endocrine-disrupting compounds. The adsorption performance of different materials is evaluated based on the results of static and dynamic adsorption experiments. Additionally, the regeneration methods of MOF-based adsorbents are discussed in detail to facilitate effective recycling and reuse. Finally, challenges and potential future research opportunities are proposed, including reducing performance losses during the shaping process, developing assessment systems based on dynamic purification and real polluted water, optimizing regeneration methods, designing multifunctional MOFs, and low-cost, large-scale synthesis of MOFs.

Abstract
Developing appropriate disposal of stockpiles of chemical warfare agents (CWAs) has gained significant attention as their lethal toxicity seriously harms humanity. In this study, a novel green-fabrication method with UiO-66 catalysts and amine-functionalized chitin nanofibers (ChNFs) was suggested to prepare durable and highly reactive membranes for decomposing chemical warfare agents (CWAs) in the continuous flow system. The strong interaction between ChNFs and the UiO-66 led to stable loading of the UiO-66 on the continuous nano-porous channel of the ChNF reactive membrane even with high loading of UiO-66 (70 wt% of UiO-66 in the ChNF substrate). In addition, the Brønsted base functionalities (-NH2 and -NHCOCH3) of the ChNF enhanced the catalytic activity and recyclability of the UiO-66. The resulting 70-ChNF composites can effectively decompose a nerve agent simulant (methyl paraoxon) even after 7 repeatable cycles, which has been not obtained in the previous UiO-66 catalyst. The ChNF/UiO-66 reactive membranes with 1 m2 of the area decomposed 130 g of CWAs within an hour in a continuous flow system. We believe these robust and highly reactive membranes can provide a sustainable and efficient solution for the massive CWA disposal and also contribute to the advancement of functional membrane material science.

Abstract
A chitosan-alginate sponge (CAS) with multiple cross-linking networks was developed using chitosan, sodium alginate, polyvinyl alcohol, and glutaraldehyde to adsorb and enrich the anionic dyes form the food samples. The multiple networks in CAS refer to the electrostatic cross-linking network, hydrogen bonding cross-linking network, and covalent cross-linking network. Compared with pure chitosan and alginate sponges, the CAS showed better three-dimensional network structure, mechanical behavior, and stability, which is benefit by multiple cross-linking networks. The physical and chemical properties of CAS were systematically studied by a series of characterizations. The adsorption performance of CAS on anionic dyes was inspected with different dye concentration, time, temperature, and pH conditions. CAS exhibited a good and stable adsorption property to amaranth, carmine, and sunset yellow with the saturation adsorption capacity of 94.34, 111.5, and 80.05 mg∙g-1, respectively. Furthermore, CAS performed outstanding selectivity to anionic dyes with the selectivity factor up to 16.99. Through electrostatic potential analysis, it is inferred that CAS mainly adsorbs anionic dyes through electrostatic interactions. CAS showed satisfactory reusability, maintaining 97 %-99 % of adsorption performance after six cycles of recycling. Finally, CAS was combined with high-performance liquid chromatography for the enrichment and detection of anionic dyes in candy and cocktail samples, achieving the enrichment factor up to 84.77.

Abstract
Although metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are advantageous to the removal of organic pollutants, the general MOFs in powder form is disadvantageous to their practical applications. In-situ MOF synthesis in alginate gel is a good way to fabricate an MOF composite for many applications, which is different from blending MOF particles with polymers. In-situ synthesis of Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework-8 (ZIF-8) in alginate gel is in the form of beads with rough wrinkles and has many pores inside. When used as an absorbent, in-situ synthesis of ZIF-8 in alginate gel could remove 97.7 ± 0.9% of ofloxacin from ofloxacin solution and the equilibrium adsorption capacity is up to 160.6 ± 1.3 mg/g. During the adsorption, ofloxacin is first brought into the gel by the solvent exchange and gel microchannel adsorption, and it can then be absorbed by in-situ ZIF-8. Moreover, the adsorption efficiency can reach 85.5% even after four cycles of adsorption. We believe that in-situ synthesis of ZIF-8 in alginate gel will be an appropriate material for the removal of ofloxacin in the wastewater.

Abstract
Contamination of antibiotics in an aqueous environment has attracted wide attention. Developing high-efficiency adsorbents for antibiotics removal is urgent. In this work, two kinds of ternary transition metal chalcogenides—Cu2MoS4 and FeMoS4 with superior adsorption performance were prepared by a facile hydrothermal synthesis method. The microstructure and physicochemical properties of the adsorbents were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscope (XPS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The as-prepared Cu2MoS4 and FeMoS4 were found to have dramatic potential for the adsorption of chlortetracycline (CTC) in an aqueous solution with an extremely high adsorption capacity. The Langmuir maximum adsorption capacity of Cu2MoS4 and FeMoS4 to CTC can reach 1203.81 and 2169.19 mg/g, respectively, which goes far beyond the common adsorbents as reported. Moreover, the adsorption kinetics, thermodynamics as well as adsorption mechanism were examined in detail by a batch of adsorption experiments.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with diverse composition, tunable structure, and unique physicochemical properties have emerged as promising materials in various fields. The tunable pore structure, abundant active sites, and ultrahigh specific surface area can facilitate mass transport and provide outstanding capacity, making MOFs an ideal active material for electrochemical energy storage and conversion. However, the poor electrical conductivity of pristine MOFs severely limits their applications in electrochemistry. Developing conductive MOFs has proved to be an effective solution to this problem. This review focuses on the design and synthesis of conductive MOF composites with judiciously chosen conducting materials, pristine MOFs, and assembly methods, as well as the preparation of intrinsically conductive MOFs based on building 2D π-conjugated structures, introducing mixed-valence metal ions/redox-active ligands, designing π-π stacked pathways, and constructing infinite metal-sulfur chains (-M-S-)∞ . Furthermore, recent progress and challenges of conductive MOFs for energy storage and conversion (supercapacitors, Li-ion batteries, Li-S batteries, and electrochemical water splitting) are summarized.

Abstract
Enzymatic biocatalysis is a sustainable technology. Enzymes are versatile and highly efficient biocatalysts, and have been widely employed due to their biodegradable nature. However, because the three-dimensional structure of these enzymes is predominantly maintained by weaker non-covalent interactions, external conditions, such as temperature and pH variations, as well as the presence of chemical compounds, can modify or even neutralize their biological activity. The enablement of this category of processes is the result of the several advances in the areas of molecular biology and biotechnology achieved over the past two decades. In this scenario, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are highlighted as efficient supports for enzyme immobilization. They can be used to ‘house’ a specific enzyme, providing it with protection from environmental influences. This review discusses MOFs as structures; emphasizes their synthesis strategies, properties, and applications; explores the existing methods of using immobilization processes of various enzymes; and lists their possible chemical modifications and combinations with other compounds to formulate the ideal supports for a given application.

Abstract
There is an increasing level of various pollutants and their persistence in aquatic environments. The improper use of antibiotics and their inefficient metabolism in organisms result in their release into aquatic environments. Antibiotic abuse has led to hazardous effects on human health. Thereby, efficient removal of pharmaceuticals, particularly antibiotics, from wastewater and contaminated water bodies is greatly interested in international research communities. Metal-organic framework (MOF) materials, as a hybrid group of material containing metallic center and organic linkers, offer a porous structure that is highly efficient for removing different pollutants from contaminated water and wastewater streams. This article aims to review the recent advancement in using MOF-based adsorbents and catalysts for the removal of pharmaceuticals, especially antibiotics, from polluted water. Applying MOFs-based structures for removing antibiotics using photocatalytic removal and adsorptive removal techniques will be discussed and evaluated in this review paper. Various MOF-based materials such as functionalized MOFs, MOF-based composites, magnetic MOF-based composites, MOFs templated-metal oxide catalysts for removing pharmaceuticals, personal care products, and antibiotics from contaminated aqueous media are discussed. Furthermore, effective operational parameters on the adsorption, adsorption mechanisms, adsorption isotherms, and thermodynamic parameters are explained and discussed. Finally, in the concluding remarks, the challenges and future outlooks of using MOFs-based adsorbents and catalysts for removing antibiotics are summarized.

Abstract
Tetracyclines (TCs), used as human and veterinary medicines, are the most widely used antibiotics. More than 75% of TCs are excreted in an active form and released into the environment through human and animal urine and feces, causing adverse effects on the ecological system and human health. Few articles review the environmental occurrence and behaviors of TCs, as well as their risks and toxicities. Here, we comprehensively summarized the recent advances on the following important issues: (1) Environmental occurrence of TCs. TCs are used globally and their occurrence in the aquatic environment has been documented, including surface water, groundwater, drinking water, wastewater, sediment, and sludge. (2) Environmental behaviors of TCs, particularly the fate of TCs in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). Most WWTPs cannot effectively remove TCs from wastewater, so alternative methods for efficient removal of TCs need to be developed. The latest degradation methods of TCs are summarized, including adsorption, photocatalytic, photochemical and electrochemical, and biological degradations. (3) Toxicities and possible risks of TCs. The toxicological data of TCs indicate that several TCs are more toxic to algae than fish and daphnia. Risk assessments based on individual compound exposure indicate that the risks arising from the current concentrations of TCs in the aquatic environment cannot be ignored.

Abstract
In this paper, we designed and prepared a novel metal organic framework (MOF)/holey graphene (HG) composites as electrode materials for electrochemistry and capacitive deionization (CDI). The MOF nanoparticles were attached to the surface of the HG sheets to form layered porous structure, which promoted the transport of ions and electrons in the electrode/electrolyte interfaces. Additionally, the synergistic effect of these composite electrodes, which combined pseudocapacitance performance of MOF and the high conductivity of graphene, contributed to enhancing the performance of electrochemistry and CDI. The MOF/HG-2 exhibited high capacitances of 526 F g-1 at current rates of 0.1 A g-1, low charge transfer resistance of 0.53 Ω, and excellent cycling stability (retention of about 90.3% after 5000 cycles at 2 A g-1). As electrode materials for CDI, the MOF/HG-2 displayed a remarkable electrosorption capacity of 39.6 mg g-1 with initial salt concentration of 800 mg L-1, and there was no obvious attenuation after 20 CDI regeneration cycles. These results confirmed that MOF/HG was a promising electrode material for the actual application of CDI.

Abstract
Pharmaceutical pollution has emerged as a highly concerned issue due to its adverse effects. Elevated concentrations of pharmaceuticals in water should be regulated to satisfy the requirement for the provision of clean water. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with high specific surface area, controllable porous structure, and facile modification can serve as promising adsorbents for the removal of pharmaceutical contaminants from water. In this review, a selected collection illustrating the reliable strategies and concepts to prepare the MOFs-based materials with superior water stability is described. In addition, recent progress on the adsorptive removal of pharmaceutical pollutant using burgeoning and functional MOFs is also summarized in terms of maximum capacity, equilibrium time, and regenerate ability. Meanwhile, to understand the adsorption mechanism, related interactions including coordination with unsaturated site, pore-filling effect, hydrogen bonding, electrostatic, and π-π stacking are further discussed. Finally, critical perspectives/assessment of future research emphasising on fabricating desirable MOFs and establishing structure-property relationships to facilitate capture performance are identified.

Abstract
Pharmaceuticals are detected at trace levels in water. Their adverse effects on human health and aquatic ecosystems required novel pharmaceutical remediation methods for treating wastewater effluents. Layer double hydroxide (LDH) is abundantly available by simple preparation methods and with low costs. The extensive use of antibiotics nowadays leads to increasing the appearance of antibiotic resistance between bacteria and decreasing the effectiveness of antibiotics. In this work, the removal of one of these antibiotics named "oxytetracycline hydrochloride (OTC)" by Zn/Fe LDH was investigated. The Zn/Fe LDH before and after adsorption was characterized by X-ray diffraction, FT-IR analysis, zeta potential, particle size, BET surface area, HRTEM, FESEM, and XPS. The effects of different factors on the OTC adsorption performance were investigated. The removal percentage of OTC was 77.23% by Zn/Fe LDH. The isothermal and kinetic study of OTC adsorption was carried out at pH 6 at 25 °C using different models. The adsorption mechanism was investigated by Monte Carlo and molecular dynamic simulations.

Abstract
In this study, lanthanum modified zeolite (La-Z) was used to adsorb chlortetracycline (CTC) from aquaculture wastewater. La-Z was characterized by SEM, TEM, EDS, XRD, FTIR and BET. The effects various factors on the adsorption of CTC by La-Z were investigated, including the lanthanum modification concentration on zeolites, the dosage of La-Z, solution pH and reaction time. Orthogonal experiments were performed to determine the optimal adsorption conditions. Adsorption kinetics were studied by quasi-first-order model, quasi-second-order model, Weber-Morris, Boyd and Bangham models, while isotherms were analyzed by the Langmuir and Freundlich models. The removal rate reached 98.4%, when the modified concentration was 0.02 mol/L, the adsorbent dosage was 0.04 g, the initial concentration of CTC was 5 mg/L, the adsorption time was 20 min, and the pH was 7. The initial CTC concentration had the greatest influence on the adsorption process. The kinetic results showed a significant linear correlation between the experimental results and the quasi-second-order kinetic model. From the results of the internal diffusion model, it was found that the La-Z adsorption rate was controlled by both internal diffusion and external diffusion, in a multi-step process. The adsorption isotherm conforms to the Langmuir model, with the maximum adsorption quantity reaching 127.55 mg/g. Thermodynamic analysis showed that the adsorption process was an endothermic process of entropy increase, which occurs spontaneously.
