Abstract
INTRODUCTION Increasing the numbers of patch testing in suspected children increases the rate of diagnosis of allergic contact dermatitis and the identification of clinically relevant allergens. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to identify the most frequently observed allergens among Turkish children and adolescents patch-tested in 2013-2023. METHODS The patch test results of 160 patients (age ≤18) were analyzed retrospectively. The frequency of contact allergens and distribution of positive results in terms of sex, age group (children and adolescents), and the presence of atopic dermatitis (AD) were identified. RESULTS Forty-nine patients (30.6%) (34 girls and 15 boys) exhibited positive patch test reactions to a minimum of one allergen, and contact sensitivity was statistically significantly higher in girls (P=0.034). The five most frequent allergens were nickel sulfate (10.6%), MCI/MI (8.1%), cobalt chloride (5.6%), p-phenylenediamine (PPD) (5%), and MI (3.5%). No significant association was observed between patch test positivity and age groups (P>.05). Nickel sulfate sensitivity was significantly higher in girls than in boys (P=.043). A positive reaction was detected in 31.3% of patients with AD and in 33.7% of those without (P>.05), and a statistically significant relationship was observed between contact sensitivity to fragrance allergens and AD (P=.046). CONCLUSION Metals and preservatives represent the most frequent allergens in Turkish children and adolescents. Metal sensitivity is expected to decrease as legislation is enforced. Regulatory measures are now required to reduce MI and MCI/MI contact allergy in Turkey.

Abstract
Children can encounter art materials that contain hazardous substances at school, in the home, and during outside activities. Hazardous substances can be found in both art materials that are made to be used by children and art materials used by adults. Some of these materials can be severe irritants, allergens, carcinogens, or other chronic disease hazards. Many of the most frequently used and potentially most hazardous materials are found in the categories of solvents, pigments, and adhesives. Selected members of these categories and where they may be found in common art materials are briefly discussed. Abstract
BACKGROUND Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) in paediatric patients is on the rise. Continuous identification of emerging allergens is of great importance to ensure accurate patch testing. OBJECTIVES To assess the frequency and relevance of contact sensitivity in children and adolescents and evaluate changes in sensitization rates in the last decade. METHODS All patients with suspected ACD who underwent patch testing at the Amsterdam University Medical Centers between 2015 and 2021 were included. RESULTS Of 439 patients tested with the European Baseline Series (EBS) and additional series, 334 (76%) patients had at least 1 positive reaction and 172 patients (39%) had 1 or more relevant positive reactions. If additional series would have been omitted, 20% of patients would have been underdiagnosed. Compared to patients tested between 1996 and 2013, reactions to metal allergens, isothiazolinones, methyldibromo glutaronitrile, carba mix, amerchol L-101, and benzophenone-4 were more frequently observed. CONCLUSIONS This study confirms the need for patch testing in paediatric patients suspected of having ACD. For accurate patch testing, it is advised to include additional series.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although the traditional understanding is that contact sensitisation is less frequent in atopic dermatitis (AD) patients, recent studies have shown similar or higher rates of positive patch test results in AD patients. METHODS This was a single-centre, ten-year retrospective review on contact sensitisation in patients who underwent patch testing between 2007 and 2017. The aims were to characterise the pattern of contact sensitisation and to ascertain a link between contact sensitisation and AD. RESULTS There were 4903 patients (males:females = 1:1.4; mean age 40.1 years old) included. About half (2499, 51.0%) of all patients developed at least one positive reaction. The top five frequent reactions were to nickel sulfate (45.4%), potassium dichromate (16.0%), p-phenylenediamine (13.4%), Myroxylon pereirae (11.8%) and fragrance mix I (11.2%). The overall prevalence of contact sensitisation was not significantly different between patients with or without AD. Patients with AD were less likely to develop contact allergies to budesonide and thiuram mix, and more likely to develop contact allergies to potassium dichromate. CONCLUSIONS Contact sensitisation was detected in 50% of patients patch-tested. Nickel sulfate was the most frequently sensitising allergen. The prevalence of contact allergies in atopic patients is comparable to that in non-atopic patients. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Abstract
Allergic contact dermatitis is a prevalent burdensome condition affecting millions of Americans. Patch testing, the criterion-standard allergic contact dermatitis diagnostic tool, is underused by US dermatologists. Incorporating patch testing into modern dermatology practices is achievable with utilization of accurate resources and sustainable support. This review focuses on the basics of patch testing and provides practical pearls to assist novice providers in establishing a contact dermatitis specialty practice.

Abstract
Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) affects up to 20% of adults and children, although children are infrequently patch tested. Available data suggest that children and adults, with or without atopic dermatitis, have the same prevalence of ACD. Patch testing is the gold standard for evaluation of ACD. The Pediatric Baseline Series was recently published by expert consensus for use in pediatric patch testing, with additional allergens tested as guided by history. This article examines methods of patch testing and up-to-date data on pediatric ACD. The top allergens are reviewed, and avoidance strategies are discussed.

Abstract
Contact dermatitis is a well-known skin condition, which is related to stimuli and environmental exposure to chemicals, affecting all ages as well as both genders. In the present work, we attempt to investigate the patterns of contact sensitization, with respect to the personal history of atopy (AT), in Greece in a large number of allergens, using patch testing. The retrospective analysis included clinical routine data of 1978 patients collected from 2014 to 2016 in the Laboratory of Patch Testing, National Referral Centre of Occupational Dermatoses. Sensitization, in all cases, was tested with 28 allergens of the European baseline series as adjusted to our local circumstances and clinical experience. A total population of 1978 patients was evaluated, with a male-to-female ratio of 0.45 (1359 females/619 males). From our patient cohort, 693 (35%) patients were evaluated with a history of atopy, while 1285 (65%) were nonatopic. The five most prevalent allergens in the total population without AT were nickel sulphate 5% (15.47%), fragrance mix (I) 8% (9.10%), balsam of Peru (6.47%), cobalt chloride 1% (4.70%), and thiomersal 0.1% (4.10%). Respectively, in the total population with AT, the five most prevalent allergens were nickel sulphate 5% (10.36%), fragrance mix (I) 8% (5.11%), balsam of Peru (3.29%), thiomersal 0.1% (3.03%), and cobalt chloride 1% (2.78%). Contact dermatitis surveillance is of great importance towards the clinical and systematic understanding of the disease. Further studies should be directed towards that end, in order to facilitate more effective health policies.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The degree of neonatal exposure to potentially sensitizing agents on neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) and the process by which personal care products are selected for use in the NICU are poorly documented. STUDY DESIGN We evaluated personal care products used in three NICUs for potentially sensitizing agents. We interviewed NICU staff to analyze how products are selected and approved for use. RESULTS Twenty-four personal care products were evaluated. 75% contained one or more potential contact allergen, with fragrances being most common. Staff preference, brand loyalty, cost, and small product size were often considered when approving NICU products. CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of potentially sensitizing agents in the products indicates a need for improvement in the evaluation and acquisition process of over-the-counter products used for neonatal skin care. The involvement of dermatology in this process may be beneficial.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) was once thought to be rare in children but recent studies have demonstrated that the prevalence of ACD is common and appears to be increasing in children. Current trends including toys, hobbies, and personal care products may play a role in potentially new allergen exposure or resurgence of certain allergens, making ACD a moving target in children. RECENT FINDINGS ACD and atopic dermatitis can coexist and certain clinical features can help differentiate ACD from endogenous atopic dermatitis in children. It is important to consider ACD in children with recalcitrant atopic dermatitis or dermatitis with atypical distribution. Patch testing has become a more common practice in children. In 2018, the first expert consensus-derived pediatric baseline series consisting of 38 allergens was proposed to aid in the diagnosis of ACD in children. Comparing recent patch testing data in the pediatric population, the top allergens ubiquitously identified were nickel, cobalt, neomycin, Myroxylon pereirae (balsam of Peru), fragrance mix I, fragrance mix II, methylisothiazolinone, methylchloroisothiazolinone/ methylisothiazolinone, formaldehyde, and lanolin. SUMMARY ACD is a common problem in children. Detection through patch testing, avoidance of offending allergens, and prevention of common allergens are the main focus of management of ACD in children.

Abstract
AIMS Aim of our observational study was to assess the prevalence of allergic contact dermatitis among children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes who use technological devices for diabetes treatment and its management. Secondary outcome was to identify possible clinical and/or demographic variables that could be associated to contact dermatitis. METHODS Among a total of 215 patients using insulin pumps and/or glucose sensors followed-up at our Pediatric Diabetes Centre between January and September 2018, 64 patients were enrolled and 42 (19 male and 23 female) completed the study. Demographic and clinical features of the study population were statistically analysed. All the patients underwent patch testing with specific allergens belonged to resin and acrylate classes. RESULTS Eighteen patients experienced skin reactions suggestive of allergic contact dermatitis, demonstrating a prevalence of 8.4%. None of the demographic or clinical variables were associated to skin reactions. Colophonium was the most identified sensitizing allergen (87.5% of the cases). CONCLUSIONS The rate of sensitization to allergens included into diabetes devices among pediatric patients is higher than commonly assumed. Well-designed studies are needed to better investigate the association between type 1 diabetes and allergic contact dermatitis. Moreover, we suggest that manufactures should supply detailed information about adhesives in order to avoid dermatological complications and consequently a worsening of disease management and patients' quality of life.

Abstract
Skin contact or exposure to sensitizers often occurs as a consequence of occupational exposures (e.g. poison ivy in forestry), wearing jewelry (e.g. nickel), or use of cosmetics (e.g. fragrances). However, many of the known skin sensitizers or their chemical variants are also consumed orally through foods or other sources. Since oral exposure to antigenic substances can lead to tolerance, consumption of sensitizers may impact the development and potency of skin sensitization, especially if the sensitizer is consumed early in life, prior to the first skin contact. To address this issue, we have reviewed human clinical and epidemiological literature relevant to this subject and evaluated whether early oral exposures to relevant sensitizers, or their chemical variants, are associated with reduced prevalence of skin sensitization to three main allergic sensitizers - nickel, urushiols of poison ivy, and sesquiterpene lactones of chrysanthemum and other plants.

Abstract
Eczema is a chronic, relapsing, and remitting disease that can affect patients from infancy through adulthood. Severity of eczema ranges from mild to severe and can be plagued with recurrent flares. These flares can be difficult to treat and may require use of different strategies to address the issue. In this article, the author addresses different therapeutic options that can be used in those patients with difficult-to-treat eczema.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Thimerosal has been used as a preservative in many products which may cause contact dermatitis. It is the second most common allergen in positive patch test reactions, though being a clinical irrelevant allergen. Thimerosal-induced contact dermatitis is generally considered to be a delayed-type hypersensitivity reaction, but it is difficult to explain the fact that most patients develop an allergic reaction upon first encounter with thimerosal. Recent studies have demonstrated the association between Mas-related G protein coupled receptor X2 (MRGPRX2) and pseudo-allergic reactions which occur at the first contact with stimulation. This suggests the possibility that thimerosal may cause contact dermatitis via MRGPRX2 mediated mechanism. OBJECTIVES To investigate the role of Mas-related G-protein coupled receptor B2 (MrgprB2)/MRGPRX2 in contact dermatitis induced by thimerosal. METHODS Thimerosal induced pseudo-allergic reactions via MrgprB2/ MRGPRX2 were investigated using a novel skin pseudo-allergic reaction mouse model, footpad swelling and extravasation assays in vivo and mast cell degranulation assay in vitro. RESULTS Thimerosal induced contact dermatitis in dorsal skin and footpad swelling in wild-type mice, but had no significant effect in MrgprB2-knockout mice. Thimerosal-induced dermatitis is characterized by infiltration of inflammatory cells and elevation of serum histamine and inflammatory cytokines, rather than elevation of serum IgE level. Thimerosal increased the intracellular Ca2+ concentration in HEK293 cells overexpressing MrgprB2/MRGPRX2. Downregulation of MRGPRX2 resulted in the reduced degranulation of LAD2 human mast cells. CONCLUSIONS MrgprB2 mediates thimerosal-induced mast cell degranulation and pseudo-allergic reaction in mice. MRGPRX2 may be a key contributor to human contact dermatitis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Atopic dermatitis is a common illness in childhood. Children with atopic dermatitis are prone to develop cutaneous sensitization due to skin barrier dysfunction. AIM The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency of cutaneous sensitizations in patients with atopic dermatitis and to identify the most frequent causative allergens. STUDY DESIGN The study group consisted of 112 children with atopic dermatitis, aged 1-18 years (median 88.5 months) and 39 healthy controls, aged 1-8 years (median 88.48 months). METHODS The diagnosis of atopic dermatitis was established by modified Hanifin and Rajka criteria; severity of the disease was assessed by scoring of atopic dermatitis. Serum blood eosinophil count, total IgE and skin prick tests for common aeroallergens and food allergens were performed. Patch tests with cosmetic series and European standard patch test series (Stallegenes© Ltd, Paris, France) were applied. RESULTS Of the children with atopic dermatitis, 17% (n=19) were sensitized to either cosmetic or standard series or both of them; no children in the control group had a positive patch test (p=0.001). Atopy and severity of atopic dermatitis was not a significant risk factor for cutaneous sensitization. The most common allergens were Nickel sulphate and Methychloroisothiazinolone (4.5% and 4.5%) in the European standard patch test and cocamidoproplybetaine (12.5%) in the cosmetic series patch test. CONCLUSION Cutaneous sensitization can develop in children with atopic dermatitis, therefore allergic contact dermatitis should be kept in mind.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Contact hypersensitivity is common in adolescents, but data in the literature are limited. Adolescents often use cosmetics, wear jewelry, and obtain tattoos, which can be sources of allergens. METHODS This was a retrospective, noninterventional cohort study of 100 adolescents (aged 13-18; 74 girls, 26 boys) who were consecutively patch tested. RESULTS We detected contact hypersensitivity in 51 of the 100 patch-tested patients (51%): 52.7% of the girls and 46.2% of the boys were sensitized. The most common allergens were nickel (17%), thimerosal (12%), para-phenylenediamine (8%), cobalt (7%), and fragrance mix I (6%). Thirteen percent of the reactions did not appear until the seventh day. The majority of clinical lesions affected the hands and face. The most common contact allergens were mercury derivatives, lanolin, and para-phenylenediamine in boys and nickel, thimerosal, para-phenylenediamine, cobalt, and fragrance mix I in girls. Of the 47 adolescents with atopic dermatitis 51.1% had contact hypersensitivity. In this group, skin care product ingredients were the typical allergens (25.5%). The most common contact allergens of those with atopic dermatitis were nickel (12.8%), lanolin (10.6%), and thimerosal (8.5%). CONCLUSION Contact hypersensitivity is common in adolescents. For patients with therapy-resistant skin lesions affecting the face and hands, patch testing with an evaluation for 7 days is recommended. Our results provide the first data on frequency of contact hypersensitivity in this age group in Hungary. Metals, fragrances, mercuric derivatives, dyeing materials, and skin care products were the most common allergens.

Abstract
Aim To review current classes of emollients in the market, their clinical efficacy in atopic dermatitis (AD) and considerations for choice of an emollient. Methods PubMed Clinical Queries under Clinical Study Categories (with Category limited to Therapy and Scope limited to Narrow) and Systematic Reviews were used as the search engine. Keywords of ‘emollient or moisturizer’ and ‘atopic dermatitis’ were used. Overview of findings Using the keywords of ‘emollient’ and ‘atopic dermatitis’, there were 105 and 36 hits under Clinical Study Categories (with Category limited to Therapy and Scope limited to Narrow) and Systematic Reviews, respectively. Plant-derived products, animal products and special ingredients were discussed. Selected proprietary products were tabulated. Conclusions A number of proprietary emollients have undergone trials with clinical data available on PubMed-indexed journals. Most moisturizers showed some beneficial effects, but there was generally no evidence that one moisturizer is superior to another. Choosing an appropriate emollient for AD patients would improve acceptability and adherence for emollient treatment. Physician’s recommendation is the primary consideration for patients when selecting a moisturizer/emollient; therefore, doctors should provide evidence-based information about these emollients.

Abstract
Inflammatory dermatoses encompass a variety of histologic patterns that affect different portions of the skin. In spongiotic, psoriasiform, lichenoid, pityriasiform, and blistering disorders, there are predominately epidermal and junctional activities with variable superficial dermal inflammation. Hypersensitivity reactions can show either epidermal or mostly dermal changes depending on whether the exposure of the exogenous allergen occurs through an external or internal route, respectively. Exceptions include erythema multiforme and Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis, where the etiology is often due to infection or ingested medications, but the histologic features are almost exclusively confined to the epidermis and dermoepidermal junction. Autoimmune disorders are unique in that lesions typically incorporate a mixture of epidermal and dermal inflammatory patterns with periadnexal inflammation, while the vast majority of vasculitis/vasculopathy and alopecia have changes limited to only the vessels and hair follicles, respectively. It is critical to recognize that a relatively limited number of histologic patterns are seen in a large array of clinical entities. Therefore, clinicopathologic correlation and careful examination of histologic details are of the utmost importance when evaluating skin biopsies for inflammatory disorders.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patch testing is the gold standard for diagnosing allergic contact dermatitis in children. OBJECTIVE To present a 10-year retrospective review of pediatric patch testing at our institution. METHODS Data from patients 18 years or younger who presented for patch testing from February 1, 2005, to May 31, 2015, were entered into a database. Patch testing was performed according to North American Contact Dermatitis Group standards. A positive reaction was defined as any allergen for which the patient had a 1+ or greater reaction and provided avoidance information. RESULTS A total of 157 patients with a mean (SD) age of 12.3 (4.1) years were evaluated. The 2 most frequent allergens were nickel and cobalt. Most patients were referred by dermatologists for suspected allergic contact dermatitis (72.3%). Dermatitis was present for more than 2 years in most cases (n = 67 [46.2%]), from 6 months to 2 years (n = 49 [33.8%]), and for less than 6 months (n = 29 [20.0%]). Males were more likely to have a positive reaction to fragrance mix 1 compared with females (P = .02). No significant association was found between age and allergen sensitivity. Those with a history of atopy were more likely to have a positive reaction to cobalt (P = .008) and chromium (P = .03). Sixty patients (38.2%) returned for follow-up, and 37 (60.7%) reported improvement; most (n = 54 [88.5%]) were being treated with topical corticosteroids. CONCLUSION Our study of pediatric patch testing can provide information regarding common allergens in children, which can enhance patient care. Primary care practitioners may benefit from awareness of patch testing as an alternative to prescribing systemic immunosuppressants.

Methylisothiazolinone (MI) is an emerging and increasing cause of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) in children. We present the case of a 7-year-old girl with an unusual dermatitis suspicious for contact allergy. Patch testing confirmed allergy to MI, found only in the patient's laundry detergent. This case highlights the importance of checking household product ingredients and the role of MI as an increasing cause of ACD in children.

Abstract
Pediatric immunization is essential to prevent, control and eradicate children`s infectious diseases. Newborns and infants in less developed countries have a concentrated schedule of Thimerosal-containing vaccines (TCVs); pregnant mothers are also immunized with TCVs. Metabolic changes during early development are demonstrably an important risk factor for ethylmercury (EtHg) effects on neurodevelopment, while exposure to Thimerosal sensitizes susceptible individuals to life-long contact dermatitis. Concerns regarding toxicity of Hg have moved rich nations to withdraw it from medicines and, in particular, Thimerosal from pediatric vaccines; it has been more than 20 years since rich countries started using Thimerosal-free vaccines. TCVs and Thimerosal-free vaccines show dissimilar profiles of adverse effects. Thimerosal-free vaccines have shown a decrease in contact dermatitis, while TCVs showed a significant association with increased risk of tic disorders; in some circumstances, EtHg in combination with other neurotoxic substances negatively impacted neurobehavioral tests. In studies that explored vaccines and risk of tics, Thimerosal was a necessary factor. However, when the binary exposure to organic Hg forms (TCV-EtHg and fish-MeHg) was considered, effects on neurobehavioral tests were inconsistent. CONCLUSIONS (a) The indiscriminate use of pediatric-TCVs in less developed countries carries an unjustifiable and excessive EtHg exposure with an unnecessary risk of neurotoxicity to the developing brain; (b) measurable benefits (of Thimerosal-free) and measurable risks of tic disorders have been associated with the (Thimerosal-containing) type of vaccine;

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS The popularity of electronic cigarette devices is growing worldwide. The health impact of e-cigarette use, however, remains unclear. E-cigarettes are marketed as a safer alternative to cigarettes. The aim of this research was the characterization and quantification of toxic metal concentrations in five, nationally popular brands of cig-a-like e-cigarettes. METHODS We analyzed the cartomizer liquid in 10 cartomizer refills for each of five brands by Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS). RESULTS All of the tested metals (cadmium, chromium, lead, manganese and nickel) were found in the e-liquids analyzed. Across all analyzed brands, mean (SD) concentrations ranged from 4.89 (0.893) to 1970 (1540) μg/L for lead, 53.9 (6.95) to 2110 (5220) μg/L for chromium and 58.7 (22.4) to 22,600 (24,400) μg/L for nickel. Manganese concentrations ranged from 28.7 (9.79) to 6910.2 (12,200) μg/L. We found marked variability in nickel and chromium concentration within and between brands, which may come from heating elements. CONCLUSION Additional research is needed to evaluate whether e-cigarettes represent a relevant exposure pathway for toxic metals in users.

Abstract
Inflammatory scalp dermatoses can be associated with alopecia, which is nonscarring and reversible in its early stages. This association has been described in seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, and atopic dermatitis. We describe three girls with alopecia aggravated by contact allergy to balsam fragrances. All three had complete resolution with avoidance of balsam of Peru and other balsam derivatives (including discontinuation of fluocinolone oil, which contains balsam of pine).

Abstract
Allergic contact dermatitis is an immune-mediated antigen-specific skin reaction to an allergenic chemical that corresponds to a delayed-type hypersensitivity response (type IV reaction). Allergic contact dermatitis should be suspected when skin lesions are localized to the site of previous applications of the culprit drug. Lesions appear after re-exposure in susceptible persons, with delayed onset (more than 24 h after exposure). The gold standard for diagnosis is patch (epicutaneous) testing; identification and removal of any potential causal agents is crucial. Diclofenac sodium 1% topical gel contains active (diclofenac sodium) and inactive ingredients. It is a widely used non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, known to cause allergic contact dermatitis, and especially photoallergic contact reactions. We present four cases of diclofenac-sodium-induced allergic contact dermatitis, diagnosed based on clinical grounds: intensively itchy eczematous lesions on the sites of drug application after several days of treatment. No allergic history and no other drug intake were reported by the patients. The application of diclofenac sodium 1% topical gel was strictly forbidden in all cases; potent topical steroids proved to be effective in all cases within 2 weeks of therapy. Patch tests were performed in all cases with European standard battery, with patients' own diclofenac sodium 1% topical gels and with diclofenac sodium 1% in petrolatum 3 weeks after completion of local steroid therapy. Readings were done after 48 h (Day 2) and 72 h (Day 3) and proved to be positive only to patients' diclofenac sodium 1% topical gel and diclofenac sodium 1% in petrolatum. No sun exposure was allowed during the testing, and any other treatments were forbidden.

Abstract
Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is common in children and adolescents. A history of persistent rash despite appropriate treatment should raise suspicion of ACD. We present the case of a 16-year-old boy with chronic dermatitis suspected of being a possible nickel allergy. He and his mother denied known common exposures. Patch testing confirmed allergies to multiple metals and several preservatives. A detailed social history revealed that the patient was an avid coin collector. Information about hobbies and activities should be elicited in any patient in whom ACD is suspected to determine exposures they may not initially have considered relevant. This case highlights the importance of pre- and posttest counseling and exposure history.

Abstract
Nickel is the leading cause of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) from early childhood through adolescence. Studies have shown that skin piercings and other nickel-laden exposures can trigger the onset of nickel ACD in those who are susceptible. Nickel ACD causes a vast amount of cutaneous disease in children. Cases of nickel ACD in children have been reported in peer-reviewed literature from 28 states. Common items that contain inciting nickel include jewelry, coins, zippers, belts, tools, toys, chair studs, cases for cell phones and tablets, and dental appliances. The diagnosis of nickel ACD has been routinely confirmed by patch testing in children older than 6 months suspected of ACD from nickel. Unlike in Europe, there are no mandatory restrictions legislated for nickel exposure in the United States. Denmark has demonstrated that regulation of the nickel content in metals can lower the risk of ACD and the associated health care-related costs that arise from excess nickel exposure. To further awareness, this article reviews the prominent role of nickel in pediatric skin disease in the United States. It discusses the need for a campaign by caretakers to reduce nickel-related morbidity. Lastly, it promotes the model of European legislation as a successful intervention in the prevention of nickel ACD.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) in children appears to be on the increase, and contact sensitization may already begin in infancy. The diagnosis of contact dermatitis requires a careful evaluation of a patient's clinical history, physical examination, and skin testing. Patch testing is the gold standard diagnostic test. METHODS Based on consensus, the EAACI Task Force on Allergic Contact Dermatitis in Children produced this document to provide details on clinical aspects, the standardization of patch test methodology, and suggestions for future research in the field. RESULTS We provide a baseline list of test allergens to be tested in children with suspected ACD. Additional tests should be performed only on specific indications.

Abstract
Dermatitis has important implications for individuals who are affected. It can significantly impair function and quality of life. Dermatitis is multi-factorial and often includes elements of atopic dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis, and irritant contact dermatitis in a co-existent manner. Textiles are in contact with the human skin for extended periods of time and as a result, they are an important part of the cutaneous environment. Thus, it is not surprising that textiles play a major role in both the etiology and the treatment of various types of dermatitis. This review discusses the role of textiles in dermatitis with an emphasis on interesting and recent advances, trends, perspectives, gaps, and conflicts in the field. In addition, we mention other disease processes to be aware of as they can often mimic textile pattern dermatitis. Lastly, we provide a diagnostic approach for patients presenting with textile pattern dermatitis.
