Abstract
Gay, bisexual, queer, and other men who have sex with men (GBQMSM) and transgender and nonbinary persons are at elevated risk for HIV, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and hepatitis C (HCV); in Appalachia, these communities experience more disease burden. However, little is known about the factors influencing risk. Sixteen semistructured in-depth interviews were conducted examining factors influencing prevention and care. Data were analyzed using constant comparison methodology. Fifteen themes emerged within four domains: social environment (e.g., microaggressions across gender, sexual orientation, and racial identities), substance use (e.g., high prevalence, use as coping mechanism), sexual health (e.g., misinformation and denial of risk for HIV and STIs), and access to health care (e.g., cost and transportation barriers, lack of local respectful care). Findings highlighted salient barriers and assets influencing prevention and care and suggest that multilevel interventions are needed to improve access to and use of HIV, STI, and HCV prevention and care services.

Abstract
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) remains a global public health challenge with an estimated 71 million people chronically infected, with surges in new cases and no effective vaccine. New methods are needed to study the human immune response to HCV since in vivo animal models are limited and in vitro cancer cell models often show dysregulated immune and proliferative responses. Here, we developed a CD8+ T cell and adult stem cell liver organoid system using a microfluidic chip to coculture 3D human liver organoids embedded in extracellular matrix with HLA-matched primary human T cells in suspension. We then employed automated phase contrast and immunofluorescence imaging to monitor T cell invasion and morphological changes in the liver organoids. This microfluidic coculture system supports targeted killing of liver organoids when pulsed with a peptide specific for HCV non-structural protein 3 (NS3) (KLVALGINAV) in the presence of patient-derived CD8+ T cells specific for KLVALGINAV. This demonstrates the novel potential of the coculture system to molecularly study adaptive immune responses to HCV in an in vitro setting using primary human cells.

Abstract
Background Objective Methods Results Conclusions Pharmacists are largely willing to help people who need HIV/HCV prevention services. Perception of HIV/HCV prevention fit with pharmacist professional identity varies. Cognitive HIV/HCV prevention services are preferred over hands-on clinical services. Pharmacists often engage in gatekeeping to limit sales of non-prescription syringes. Willingness to sell syringes potentially hinges on minimal contact with requestors.

Abstract
COVID-19 is compounding opioid use disorder throughout the United States. While recent commentaries provide useful policy recommendations, few studies examine the intersection of COVID-19 policy responses and patterns of opioid overdose. We examine opioid overdoses prior to and following the Pennsylvania stay-at-home order implemented on April 1, 2020. Using data from the Pennsylvania Overdose Information Network, we measure change in monthly incidents of opioid-related overdose pre- versus post-April 1, and the significance of change by gender, age, race, drug class, and naloxone doses administered. Findings demonstrate statistically significant increases in overdose incidents among both men and women, White and Black groups, and several age groups, most notably the 30–39 and 40–49 ranges, following April 1. Significant increases were observed for overdoses involving heroin, fentanyl, fentanyl analogs or other synthetic opioids, pharmaceutical opioids, and carfentanil. The study emphasizes the need for opioid use to be addressed alongside efforts to mitigate and manage COVID-19 infection.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Appalachian region is a large geographic and economic area, representing 7.69% of the United States (US). This region is more rural, whiter, older, and has a higher level of poverty as compared to the rest of the US. Limited research has been done on primary brain and other central nervous system tumors (PBT) epidemiology in this region. In this analysis we characterize incidence, mortality, and survival patterns. METHODS Data from 2006 to 2015 were obtained from the central brain tumor registry of the US (provided by CDC and NCI). Appalachian counties were categorized using the Appalachia Regional Council scheme. Overall and histology-specific age-adjusted incidence and mortality rates per 100,000 population were generated. 1-, 5-, and 10-year relative survival (RS) was estimated using CDC national program of cancer registry data from 2001 to 2014. RESULTS Overall PBT incidence within Appalachia was 22.62 per 100,000, which is not significantly different from the non-Appalachian US (22.77/100,000, p = 0.1189). Malignant incidence was 5% higher in Appalachia (7.55/100,000 vs. 7.23/100,000, p < 0.0001), while non-malignant incidence was 3% lower (15.07/100,000 vs. 15.54/100,000, p < 0.0001). 5-year RS for malignant PBT was lower (31.4% vs. 36.0%), and mortality due to malignant PBT was higher in Appalachia (4.86/100,000 vs. 4.34/100,000, p < 0.0001). CONCLUSION Appalachia has increased malignant and decreased non-malignant PBT incidence, and poorer survival outcomes for malignant PBT compared to the non-Appalachian US.
