Abstract
It has been found that the development of some cancers can be attributed to obesity, which is associated with the excessive intake of lipids. Cancer cells undergo metabolic reprogramming, shifting from utilizing glucose to fatty acids (FAs) for energy. CD36, a lipid transporter, is highly expressed in certain kinds of cancer cells. High expressions of CD36 in tumor cells triggers FA uptake and lipid accumulation, promoting rapid tumor growth and initiating metastasis. Meanwhile, immune cells in the tumor microenvironment overexpress CD36 and undergo metabolic reprogramming. CD36-mediated FA uptake leads to lipid accumulation and has immunosuppressive effects. This paper reviews the types of FAs associated with cancer, high expressions of CD36 that promote cancer development and progression, effects of CD36 on different immune cells in the tumor microenvironment, and the current status of CD36 as a therapeutic target for the treatment of tumors with high CD36 expression.

Abstract
PURPOSE As a member of the G-protein-coupled receptor 1 family, the G-protein-coupled receptor 176 (GPR176) gene encodes a glycosylated protein made up of 515 amino acids. The current study was performed to evaluate the impact of GPR176 on the clinicopathology and prognosis of oesophageal cancer, as well as uncover its molecular mechanisms. METHODS Bioinformatics and clinical tissue samples were used to detect the expression and clinicopathological significance of GPR176 in oesophageal cancer. The expression, proliferation, migration and invasion, apoptosis and lipid droplet formation of GPR176 gene in oesophageal cancer were performed as phenotypic readouts. RESULTS Here, RT-PCR and bioinformatic analyses revealed that GPR176 mRNA expression was significantly higher in oesophageal cancer than in normal mucosa (p < 0.05). GPR176 mRNA expression was associated with low weight and BMI, low T stage, low N and clinicopathological stage, low histological grade and favourable clinical outcome of oesophageal cancer (p < 0.05). The differential genes of GPR176 mRNA were involved in protein digestion and absorption, extracellular matrix constituent, endoplasmic reticulum lumen, among others (p < 0.05). GPR176-related genes were classified as being involved in oxidoreductase activity, actin and myosin complexes, lipid localisation and transport, among others (p < 0.05). GPR176 knockdown suppressed proliferation, anti-apoptotic and anti-pyroptotic properties, migration, invasion, chemoresistance and lipid droplet formation in oesophageal cancer cells (p < 0.05), while ACC1 and ACLY overexpression reversed the inhibitory effects of GPR176 silencing on lipid droplet formation and chemoresistance. CONCLUSION These findings indicated that upregulated expression of GPR176 might be involved in oesophageal carcinogenesis and subsequent progression, aggressiveness, and induced chemoresistance by ACC1- and ACLY-mediated lipogenesis and lipid droplet assembly.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most prevalent cancer in Iran. This study aimed to assess the level of awareness regarding CRC warning signs, risk factors, screening program, and related factors among adults in North-Eastern Iran. Study Design: A cross-sectional study. METHODS The multi-stage sampling method was used to survey 2614 participants attending primary healthcare centers in Mashhad, Iran. The data collection tools were the demographics section and Bowel/ CRC Awareness Measure (Bowel/Colorectal CAM). The data were analyzed by SPSS, version 25. The significance level of the data analysis was less than 0.05. RESULTS Mean awareness for CRC warning signs and CRC risk factors were 2.85±2.13 and 3.63±1.85, respectively. Most participants (97.2%) had no awareness of the CRC screening program. There was a significant association between marital status, education, job, income, and family history of CRC with awareness of warning signs (P<0.001); moreover, there was a significant association between age, education, job, income, and family history of CRC with awareness of risk factors (P<0.001). The results of logistic regression indicated that there was a significant association between age (P=0.022, OR=1.794, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.087, 2.962), gender (P=0.005, OR=0.488, 95% CI: 0.296, 0.803) and warning sign awareness (P<0.001, OR=1.278, 95% CI: 1.124, 1.454) with awareness of the CRC screening program. CONCLUSION In this study, most of the participants had low awareness of CRC. More aimed educational interventions are needed to promote Iranian adults' awareness of CRC.

Abstract
Eggs contain high-quality protein, lavish vitamins and other bioactive nutrients but are rich in cholesterol. Our study is designed to assess the association of egg intake with polyp prevalence. A total of 7068 participants at a high risk of CRC from the Lanxi Pre-Colorectal Cancer Cohort Study (LP3C) were recruited. A food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) was utilized to obtain dietary data through a face-to-face interview. Cases of colorectal polyps were identified by electronic colonoscopy. The logistic regression model was exploited to achieve odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Overall 2064 cases of colorectal polyps were identified in the 2018-2019 survey of LP3C. A positive association of egg consumption with colorectal polyp prevalence was found after the multivariable adjustment [ORQ4 vs. Q1 (95% CI): 1.23 (1.05-1.44); Ptrend = 0.01]. However, a positive relationship disappeared after further adjustment for dietary cholesterol (Ptrend = 0.37), which explained that the harmful role of eggs could be ascribed to the high content of dietary cholesterol. Besides, a positive trend was found between dietary cholesterol and polyp prevalence [OR (95% CI): 1.21 (0.99-1.47); Ptrend = 0.04]. Furthermore, replacing 1 egg (50 g d-1) with an equal amount of total dairy products was related to 11% lower colorectal polyp prevalence [OR (95% CI): 0.89 (0.80-0.99); P = 0.03]. In summary, higher egg consumption was correlated with a higher polyp prevalence among the Chinese population at a high risk of CRC, which was ascribed to the high content of dietary cholesterol in eggs. Besides, individuals with the highest dietary cholesterol tended to have a higher polyp prevalence. Reducing the consumption of eggs and replacing eggs with total dairy products as alternative protein sources may prevent the occurrence of polyps in China.

Abstract
Purpose This study aimed to analyze incidence and mortality trends and risk factors of colorectal cancer (CRC) in China during 2005–2015. Materials and Methods Patient cases were extracted from the Chinese Cancer Registry Annual Report. Joinpoint regression and Poisson regression were applied to analyze incidence and mortality trends and risk factors of CRC. Age-period-cohort model was used to evaluate the age, period and cohort effects on CRC. Results The standardized incidence and mortality rate of CRC in China showed a decreasing trend during 2005–2015. The incidence in men (APC=−1.22%, P<0.05) decreased from 2005 to 2015 and decreased in women (APC =−3.55%, P<0.05) from 2005 to 2013, then increased during 2013–2015 (APC =18.77%, P<0.05). The incidence and mortality in urban areas were higher than those in rural (The incidence in urban: APC =−0.97%, P<0.05; rural: APC =1.94%, P<0.05; the mortality in urban: APC =−0.67%, P<0.05; rural: APC =0.29%). For age-specific rates, the incidence begins to increase significantly at 40–45 age group and reached a peak at 75; the mortality increased significantly at 45–50. The age effect increased with age in general. The 1920 birth cohort had the highest risk of colorectal cancer incidence and death. Poisson regression showed region, gender and age were independent risk factors of CRC. Conclusion The age-adjusted standardized incidence rate (ASIR) and age-adjusted standardized mortality rate (ASMR) of CRC in China during 2005–2015 were decreasing. A great concern on men, rural areas and people aged over 75 should be aroused to prevent colorectal cancer.

Abstract
Introduction Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the most common type of gastrointestinal malignancies and the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths for both sexes worldwide. Although the burden of CRC is highest in developed countries, reports are indicating a rise in the incidence of early-onset CRC in developing countries. In this study, we aimed to determine the prevalence of CRC among patients hospitalized with lower gastrointestinal complaints at a tertiary health facility in Uganda. Methods We conducted a 10-year retrospective chart review of patients admitted to Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala, Uganda, between 1st January 2010 and 31st December 2020. We reviewed all charts of patients admitted to the lower gastrointestinal tract (GIT) ward. Charts with grossly missing data, pediatric patients, and those from other non-lower GIT specialties were excluded. Results Data of 1476 unique eligible patients were analyzed. Of these,138 had a diagnosis of CRC (prevalence: 9.3%, 95% confidence interval (95% CI): 6.5-11.7%). Among patients with CRC, the female:male ratio was 1:1. The most common site for CRC was the rectum (59.8%, n= 79). For the 138 participants with CRC, 44 had staging data with 72.8% (n=32) having advanced disease, that is, stage 3 or 4. Factors independently associated with CRC were age ≥50 years (adjusted odds ratio (aOR): 4.3, 95% CI: 2.6-7.1, p < 0.001), female sex (aOR: 1.8, 95% CI: 1.2 -2.8, p = 0.005), being widowed (aOR: 2.5, 95% CI: 1.3-5.0, p = 0.006), and presence of any risk factor for CRC (aOR: 5.3, 95% CI: 2.9-9.9, p < 0.001). Conclusion CRC is relatively common among patients hospitalized with lower GIT complaints, particularly among women and those with known risk factors for CRC. Awareness creation and screening programs should be instituted to allow early diagnosis of CRC in our setting.

Participation Rate, Risk Factors, and Incidence of Colorectal Cancer in the Screening Program Among the Population Covered by the Health Centers in Arak, Iran. Abstract
Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is among the most common and preventable cancers, the incidence and risk factors of which are different in various populations. Objectives: The present study aims at assessing incidence rate, risk factors, and symptoms of CRC among the populations aged 50 to 70 years old covered by the health centers in Arak, as well as evaluating participation rate in the CRC screening program. Methods: The present cross-sectional study was conducted from 2016 to 2019 among all of the individuals aged 50 to 70 years old, who were referred to rural, urban, and suburban health centers in Arak for CRC screening, and their data were recorded in the Sib system. The participation rate, risk factors (family and individual history of CRC, colorectal adenoma, and inflammatory bowel disease), symptoms (lower gastrointestinal bleeding, constipation with or without diarrhea, and weight loss), and crude incidence rate of CRC were calculated in the age range. Results: The mean (SD) age of the CRC was 59.72 (5.56) years. In addition, the individuals’ participation rate in the program was about 44.2%, which was more among women (55.5%) and villagers (93.7%). Most subjects complained of constipation in the last month and CRC family history. The CRC crude incidence rates were 35.93 (95% CI: 25.55 - 50.54), 40.96 (95% CI: 29.81 - 56.29), 43.76 (95% CI: 32.22 - 59.43), and 52.84 (95% CI: 40.05 - 69.71) per 100000 individuals during 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019, respectively. Conclusions: The participation rate in the CRC screening program was low, and the trend of the cancer crude incidence rate increased among the populations aged 50 to 70 years. Finally, informing about the recognition of the risk factors and symptoms of cancer, as well as the timely referral for screening was considered essential.
