Abstract
We developed an approach of magnetic dispersive solid-phase extraction (MSPE) based on magnetic graphene nanocomposite rGO/Fe3O4 for the determination of trace Sb(III) and Sb(V) using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) were used to characterize the sorbent. The adsorption behavior of Sb(III) and Sb(V) on rGO/Fe3O4 was investigated. The results showed that the adsorption capacity of Sb(V) was nearly zero at pH = 9, while Sb(III) could be well adsorbed on rGO/Fe3O4. The magnetic SPE parameters including pH, adsorbent dosage, eluent type, and volume were optimized. The detection limit of Sb(III) under ideal conditions was 6 ng L-1, and the relative standard deviation was 7.6% (c = 1 g L-1, n = 7). The technique was used to identify Sb(III) at trace levels in environmental water samples, and its validity was examined by recovery experiments and the examination of an approved reference material.

Abstract
Due to their different properties compared to other materials, nanoparticles of iron and iron oxides are increasingly used in the food industry. Food technologists have especially paid attention to their ease of separation by magnetic fields and biocompatibility. Unfortunately, the consumption of increasing amounts of nanoparticles has raised concerns about their biotoxicity. Hence, knowledge about the applicability of iron nanoparticle-based materials in the food industry is needed not only among scientists, but also among all individuals who are involved in food production. The first part of this article describes typical methods of obtaining iron nanoparticles using chemical synthesis and so-called green chemistry. The second part of this article describes the use of iron nanoparticles and iron nanoparticle-based materials for active packaging, including the ability to eliminate oxygen and antimicrobial activity. Then, the possibilities of using the magnetic properties of iron nano-oxides for enzyme immobilization, food analysis, protein purification and mycotoxin and histamine removal from food are described. Other described applications of materials based on iron nanoparticles are the production of artificial enzymes, process control, food fortification and preserving food in a supercooled state. The third part of the article analyzes the biocompatibility of iron nanoparticles, their impact on the human body and the safety of their use.

Abstract
In this study, the application of Fe3O4@SiO2@polypyrrole-polyaniline magnetic nanocomposite was studied for Ni(ii), Cd(ii), and Pb(ii) ions preconcentration extraction. In this regard, the silica layer prevents the Fe3O4 nanoparticles (NPs) from aggregating over a broad pH range value and simultaneously improves chemical stability and hydrophilicity. By using a Box-Behnken design, the effect of various parameters affecting the preconcentration was studied. FAAS was employed to quantify the eluted analytes. The detection limits are 0.09, 1.1, and 0.3 ng mL-1 for Ni(ii), Cd(ii) and Pb(ii), ions, respectively. The relative standard deviations (RSDs%) were calculated for determining the method's precision, lower than 7.5%. The capacities of sorption are 75, 84, and 98 mg g-1, respectively. With the usage of a certified reference material, the developed method was validated. After that, the validated method was employed to rapidly extract trace target ions from food samples and gave satisfactory results.

Abstract
A self-sacrificing catalytic method is described for the preparation of magnetic core/dual-functional-shell nanocomposites composed of magnetite, gold and Prussian blue (type Fe3O4@Au-PB). Two reaction pathways are integrated. The first involves chemical dissolution of Fe3O4 (the self-sacrificing step) by acid to release ferrous ions which then reacts with hexacyanoferrate(IV) to generate PB in the proximity of the magntic nanoparticles (MNPs). The second involves the reduction of tetrachloroaurate by hydroxylamine to generate gold under the catalytic effect of the MNPs. At the end, the MNP@Au-PB nanocomposite is formed. This method exploits both the chemical reactivity and catalytic effect of the MNPs in a single step. The multi-function material was applied (a) in an optical assay for H2O2; (b) in an amperometric assay for H2O2; (c) in an enzymatic choline assay using immobilized choline oxidase. The limit of electrochemical detection of H2O2 (at a potential as low as 50 mV) is 1.1 μM which is comparable or better than most analogous methods. The sensors display superior performance compared to the use of conventional core@single-shell (MNP@Au-PB) nanomaterials. Graphical abstract A self-sacrificing catalytic method is described to prepare magnetic core/dual-functional-shell nanocomposites composed of magnetic nanoparticle, gold and Prussian blue (type MNP@Au-PB). The nanocomposites worded well as candidates to develop colorimetric and electrochemical sensors of H2O2 with superior performance to analogues.

Abstract
The ability to monitor specific molecules in real-time directly in a flowing sample stream and in a manner that does not adulterate that stream could greatly augment quality control in, for example, food processing and pharmaceutical manufacturing. Because they are continuous, reagentless, and able to work directly in complex samples, electrochemical DNA-based (E-DNA) sensors, a modular and, thus, general sensing platform, are promising candidates to fill this role. In support, we describe here an E-DNA sensor supporting the continuous, real-time measurement of melamine in flowing milk. Using target-driven DNA triplex formation to generate an electrochemical output, the sensor responds to rising and falling melamine concentration in seconds without contaminating the product stream. The continuous, autonomous, real-time operation of sensors such as this could provide unprecedented safety, convenience, and cost-effectiveness relative to the batch processes historically employed in molecular quality control.

Abstract
The increasing number of scientific publications focusing on magnetic materials indicates growing interest in the broader scientific community. Substantial progress was made in the synthesis of magnetic materials of desired size, morphology, chemical composition, and surface chemistry. Physical and chemical stability of magnetic materials is acquired by the coating. Moreover, surface layers of polymers, silica, biomolecules, etc. can be designed to obtain affinity to target molecules. The combination of the ability to respond to the external magnetic field and the rich possibilities of coatings makes magnetic materials universal tool for magnetic separations of small molecules, biomolecules and cells. In the biomedical field, magnetic particles and magnetic composites are utilized as the drug carriers, as contrast agents for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and in magnetic hyperthermia. However, the multifunctional magnetic particles enabling the diagnosis and therapy at the same time are emerging. The presented review article summarizes the findings regarding the design and synthesis of magnetic materials focused on biomedical applications. We highlight the utilization of magnetic materials in separation/preconcentration of various molecules and cells, and their use in diagnosis and therapy.
