Abstract
Over the last decade, paper-based biosensing has attracted considerable attention in numerous fields due to several advantages of them. To elaborate, using paper as a substrate of sensing approaches can be considered an affordable sensing approach owing to low cost of paper, and alongside that, the ability to operate without requiring external equipment. In many cases, cost-effective fabrication techniques such as screen printed and drop casting can be supposed as other benefits of these platforms. Despite the portability and affordability of paper-based assay, two important limitations including sensitivity and selectivity can decrease the application of these sensing approaches. Initially, decoration of paper substrate with nanomaterials (NMs) can improve the properties of paper due to high surface area and conductivity of them. Secondly, the presence of bioreceptors can provide a selective detection platform. Among different bioreceptors, deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid (RNA) can play a significant role. From this perspective, paper-based biosensors can be used for the detection of various gens which related to biomedical or food safety. In this review, we attempted to summarize recent trends and applications of paper-based genosensor, along with critical arguments in terms of NMs role in signal amplification. Furthermore, the lack of paper-based genosensors in field the of biomedical and food safety will be discussed in the following.

Abstract
In this article, we report the synthesis, characterization of novel biofriendly 2D/2D heterostructure WS2/ZnIn2S4 material in which 2D WS2 nanosheets are uniformly distributed spatially onto the spherically arranged 2D leaves of ZnIn2S4. We then studied the in-depth photocatalytic degradation activity of this novel nanocomposite and its pristine component materials on cationic dye: malachite green, anionic dye: congo red and reduction of heavy metal: chromium(VI) and the degradation efficiency of composite material was also tested on rhodamine-B, methylene blue, methyl orange dyes and acetaminophen/paracetamol drug. Form factor, structure factor and shape factor analysis has been carried out using X-ray diffractometry (XRD). Bond vibrations, functional groups and phonon vibration mode analysis has been done based on Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy. Morphological and compositional analysis has been done using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDAX) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM). Surface area and pore size/distribution was characterized using Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method and Barrett-Joyner-Halenda Model. Degradation pathways and intermediate products are proposed using the high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Photocatalytic activity of the nanocomposite WS2/ZnIn2S4 is compared with pristine ZnIn2S4 and pristine WS2, which shows more than 50% enhancement in both efficiency and rate of degradation/reduction for all the pollutants. A scavenger study was carried out to get insight of primary and secondary reactive oxygen species (ROS) taking part in degradation. Exciton lifetime, surface charge and stability, and flat band positions were studied based on time-correlated single photon counting (TCSPC) also known as time-resolved photoluminescence (TRPL), zeta potential, and Mott-Schottky respectively. Rate kinetics study was performed to analyze the physical and chemical behaviour of the nanocomposite with pollutants in consideration. Results show ∼100%, ∼90%, and ∼95% degradation efficiency by the heterostructure for malachite green (MG), congo red (CR), and reduction of heavy metal chromium (Cr(VI)) respectively within 5 min, which is a huge improvement as compared to pristine WS2 and pristine ZnIn2S4, both of which show the efficiencies of only ∼25% to∼75% in all the cases.

Abstract
A facile two-step hydrothermal method was successfully used to prepare a photocatalyst Bi2WO6/WS2 heterojunction for methyl blue (MB) photodegradation. Fabricated photocatalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Band gap measurements were carried out by diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). Results indicated that the prepared heterostructure photocatalyst has increased visible light absorption. Photocatalytic performance was evaluated under sunlight irradiation for methylene blue (MB) degradation as a model dye. Variations in pH (4-10), amount of catalyst (0.025-0.1 g/L), and initial MB concentrations (5-20 ppm) were carried out, whereas all prepared catalysts were used to conduct the tests with a visible spectrophotometer. Degradation activity improved with the pH increase; the optimum pH was approximately 8. Catalyst concentration is directly related to degradation efficiency and reached 93.56% with 0.075 g of the catalyst. Among tested catalysts, 0.01 Bi2WO6/WS2 has exhibited the highest activity and a degradation efficiency of 99.0% in 40 min (min) for MB. MB photodegradation follows pseudo-first-order kinetics, and obtained values of kapp were 0.0482 min-1, 0.0337 min-1, 0.0205 min-1, and 0.0087 min-1 for initial concentrations of 5 ppm, 10 ppm, 15 ppm, and 20 ppm, respectively. The catalyst was reused for six cycles with a negligible decrease in the degradation activity. Heterostructure 0.01 Bi2WO6/WS2 has exhibited a photocurrent density of 16 μA cm-2, significantly higher than 2.0 and 4.5 μA cm-2 for the pristine WS2 and Bi2WO6, respectively. The findings from these investigations may serve as a crucial stepping stone towards the remediation of polluted water facilitated by implementing such highly efficient photocatalysts.

Abstract
Two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials with versatile properties have been widely applied in the field of biomedicine. Despite various studies having reviewed the development of biomedical 2D nanomaterials, there is a lack of a study that objectively summarizes and analyzes the research trend of this important field. Here, we employ a series of bibliometric methods to identify the development of the 2D nanomaterial-related biomedical field during the past 10 years from a holistic point of view. First, the annual publication/citation growth, country/institute/author distribution, referenced sources, and research hotspots are identified. Thereafter, based on the objectively identified research hotspots, the contributions of 2D nanomaterials to the various biomedical subfields, including those of biosensing, imaging/therapy, antibacterial treatment, and tissue engineering are carefully explored, by considering the intrinsic properties of the nanomaterials. Finally, prospects and challenges have been discussed to shed light on the future development and clinical translation of 2D nanomaterials. This review provides a novel perspective to identify and further promote the development of 2D nanomaterials in biomedical research.

Abstract
In this paper, we report the synthesis of zinc indium sulfide (ZnIn2S4) microspheres synthesized via a low-temperature route, and the as-synthesized material was used for photocatalytic degradation of malachite green (MG), methyl orange (MO), and Direct Red 80 (DR-80) dyes. The as-synthesized material was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction and field-emission scanning electron microscopy for studying the crystal structure and surface morphology, respectively. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was performed to determine the functional groups attached. UV-Visible absorption spectrometry was done for light absorbance and band gap analysis, and Mott-Schottky analysis was performed to determine the nature and flat band potential of the material. A scavenger study was performed to analyze the active species taking part in the degradation process. The reusability of the material was tested up to four cycles to check the reduction in efficiency after each cycle. A time-correlated single-photon counting study was performed to observe the average lifetime of generated excitons during photocatalysis. It was found that the as-synthesized porous sample is more efficient in degrading the cationic dye than anionic dyes, which is further explained in the article.

Abstract
In this study, we report on a novel aptasensor based on an electrochemical paper-based analytical device (ePAD) that employs a tungsten disulfide (WS2)/aptamer hybrid for the detection of Listeria monocytogenes. Listeria is a well-known causative pathogen for foodborne diseases. The proposed aptasensor signifies many lucrative features which include simple, cost-effective, reliable, and disposable. Furthermore, the use of an aptamer added more advantageous features in the biosensor. The morphological, optical, elemental composition, and phase properties of the synthesized tungsten disulfide (WS2) nanostructures were characterized by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), RAMAN spectroscopy, photoluminescence (PL), and X-ray diffraction (XRD), while electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was performed to corroborate the immobilization of aptamer and to assess the L. monocytogenes sensing performance. The limit of detection (LoD) and limit of quantification (LoQ) of the aptasensor was found to be 10 and 4.5 CFU/mL, respectively, within a linear range of 101-108 CFU/mL. The proposed sensor was found to be selective solely towards Listeria monocytogenes in the presence of various bacterial species such as Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis. Validation of the aptasensor operation was also evaluated in real samples by spiking them with fixed concentrations (101, 103, and 105) of Listeria monocytogenes, thereby, paving the way for its potential in a point-of-care scenario.

Abstract
In this paper, we are reporting a simple hydrothermal technique for preparation of MoSe2 nanostructures (nanourchins and nanosheets) using selenium and sodium molybdate as precursors. Samples are characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The FESEM revealed that the morphology of materials was varying significantly by changing pH value during synthesis. Photocatalytic degradation of anionic dye (MO), cationic dye (MB), and reduction of Cr(VI) into Cr(III) were performed. Nanosheets and nanourchins showed higher photocatalytic activity, enhanced photocatalytic degradation efficiency is correlated with the higher •OH radical concentration, crystallinity of material, and large surface area as evident through XPS, XRD, and BET, respectively. Photocatalysis mechanism along with role of reactive species (•OH and holes) were explained using trapping experiments. Identification of degraded products was carried out using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Reaction kinetics and reusability of materials were also studied; wherein, it was observed that the materials have reusable properties.

Abstract
This report presents the superior visible-light-driven photocatalytic response of novel 2D/2D BiOCl/WS2 (BW X ) hybrid nanosheet heterojunctions prepared by a simple solution based sonochemical technique. These BW X hybrid nanosheets are composed of 2D transition metal dichalcogenide material WS2 and BiOCl nanosheets. The comparative study of photocatalytic activity of BiOCl and BiOCl/WS2 hybrid nanosheets is carried out via photodegradation of Malachite Green (MG) and photoreduction of heavy metal ion Cr(vi) under visible light irradiation. The quantum efficiency of the samples is estimated in terms of the incident photon to electron conversion efficiency (IPCE) measurements. Nearly 98.4% of the MG degradation was achieved over BiOCl/WS2 (2%) photocatalyst in 45 min of irradiation. BiOCl/WS2 (2%) hybrid nanosheet catalyst showed the highest external quantum efficiency (EQE) in both the UV and visible regimes. This accomplishment demonstrated the promise of commercial application of the 2D/2D BiOCl/WS2 (2%) hybrid nanosheet photocatalyst.

Abstract
This report presents a novel lab-on-a-paper (LoP)-based device coupled with a molybdenum disulfide nanosheet (MoS2NS)-modified electrochemical genosensor for detecting Salmonella-specific DNA. Conductive electrodes were grafted on a paper-based substrate employing a stencil printing technique, and MoS2NS was decorated on the working electrode. MoS2NS has strong affinity toward nucleo bases, which made it a best sensing interface for the immobilization of DNA. Morphological, optical, and structural characterizations were accomplished using X-ray diffraction (XRD), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), UV-vis spectroscopy (UV-vis), and Raman spectroscopy, repectively. The current studies of an electrochemical genosensor demonstrated a good linear detection range from 100-20 nM and a low limit of detection of 20 nM toward Salmonella DNA with R 2 = 0.991. The proposed LoP-based genosensor confirmed as a better sensing podium and an effectual immobilization matrix for DNA.
