Preparation and investigation of solid polymer electrolyte based on novel polyamide elastomer/metal salt

Polyoxymethylene/thermoplastic polyamide elastomer blends: Morphology, crystallization, mechanical, and antistatic properties

Polyoxymethylene/thermoplastic polyamide elastomer (POM/TPAE) blends were prepared through melt extrusion in an attempt to improve the toughness and electrical properties of POM. The TPAE used in the study had the permanent antistatic effect, and its brand was MV2080. Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer grafted maleic anhydride (ABS-g-MAH) was added while preparing the POM/TPAE blends to improve the compatibility between TPAE and POM. The effects of TPAE and ABS-g-MAH on the morphologies, melting crystallization, dynamic mechanical analysis, surface resistivity and mechanical properties were examined in detail with various techniques. It was found that after adding 15 phr MV2080 as the modifier, the distribution of MV2080 in the blends was presented as many continuous long strips, which can be called “antistatic networks.” When using ABS-g-MAH as a compatibilizer, the surface resistivity of the samples 5#, 6#, and 7# which all containing 15 phr MV2080 with the best antistatic properties reached 107 Ω, and the impact strength of the above samples was all increased by more than 66%.

Conductive polyurethane elastomer electrolyte (PUEE) materials for anodic bonding

Polyurethane elastomer electrolyte (PUEE) represents a promising class of polymer solid electrolytes for the preparation and packaging of flexible devices by anodic bonding. In this work, PUEEs were designed and prepared via a pre-polymerization method and cured at room temperature using polypropylene glycol (PPG), toluene-2,4-diisocyanate (TDI) and 1,4-butanediol (BDO) in the presence of varying amounts of lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulphonyl)imide (LiTFSI). All PUEEs exhibited high thermal stability and conductivity, with the highest ionic conductivity of 9.6 × 10⁻⁵ S cm⁻¹ for PUEE6 (n_{[NHCOO]/Li⁺} = 1) at 55 °C. The results showed that LiTFSI was dissolved completely in the polyurethane matrix, and the complexing reactions occurred between the lithium ions and the polar groups of polyurethane. After that, the prepared PUEE and the Al sheet were successfully joined by the anodic bonding process. The microstructures of the bonded interface between PUEE and the Al sheet with a clear intermediate bonding layer could be observed in the cross-section scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images, and the elements in each layer were also detected by energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), which indicated that the PUEE and the Al sheet were bonded together. The maximum tensile strength for bonded PUEE6/Al was up to 0.45 MPa. All these results demonstrated that the prepared PUEE material would be a promising candidate for the preparation and packaging of flexible devices by anodic bonding.

Application of Displacement-Current-Governed Triboelectric Nanogenerator in an Electrostatic Discharge Protection System for the Next-Generation Green Tire

Electrostatic discharge (ESD), a universal phenomenon derived from tribocharging and electrostatic induction, has always been regarded as a negative effect because it may cause various types of damage, such as gas explosions, wildfires, failure of integrated circuits, and so on. Normally, ESD is avoided by conducting those harmful charges through the surface or the whole bulk, by means of improving the conductivity of dielectrics or directly using conductive materials. However, the first approach compromises other performances at the same time, whereas the second one can be applied in only a few circumstances. In this Article, we analyzed the working principle of the triboelectric nanogenerator from the perspective of the time variation of the surface-charge-introduced polarization density ∂Ps∂t , the second term of Maxwell's displacement current. Then, we demonstrated an electrostatic protective system by implanting a conductive layer under the tribocharging surface to form a triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG). Theoretical derivation, finite element analysis, and experimental results prove that this system can efficiently prevent ESD without sacrificing any other performance. Finally, we applied it to the next generation of the green tire, which can save >10% of fuel but still cannot be commercialized due to the potential ESD risk. This research work reveals a way to prevent ESD and shows great potential in the field of engineering.
