Optimization of a fixed bed column adsorption of Fast Green dye on used black tea leaves from aqueous solution

Effective removal of Allura red food dye from water using cross-linked chitosan-diatomite composite beads

Chitosan (Ch)-diatomite (D) composite beads (Ch-D) were synthesized using epichlorohydrin and tripolyphosphate crosslinkers and then moulded into uniform beads in tripolyphosphate solution. FT-IR and SEM-EDX analyses showed that Ch-D composite adsorbent was successfully synthesized by functionalization of chitosan to Ch-D by hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions and improved adsorption capacity for removal of Allura red AC (AR) food dye. The removal rate of AR food dye was found to be 98 % at 25 °C, natural AR dye pH value, 24 h, and at the initial AR dye concentration of 200 mg L-1. The maximum adsorption capacity was found to be 34.7 mg g-1. It was observed that π-π interactions, hydrogen bonds, and electrostatic interactions between the functional groups containing oxygen and amine on the surface of the Ch-D composite and the functional groups of the anionic AR dye, and AR dye adsorption via complexation took place. In light of all this information, the Ch-D composite adsorbent is a promising potential material for the effective treatment of colored pollutants from wastewater.

A highly efficient NiCo2O4 decorated g-C3N4 nanocomposite for screen-printed carbon electrode based electrochemical sensing and adsorptive removal of fast green dye

Herein, we demonstrate the preparation and application of NiCo2O4 decorated over a g-C3N4-based novel nanocomposite (NiCo2O4@g-C3N4). The prepared material was well characterized through several physicochemical techniques, including FT-IR, XRD, SEM, and TEM. The electrochemical characterizations via electrochemical impedance spectroscopy show the low electron transfer resistance of NiCo2O4@g-C3N4 owing to the successful incorporation of NiCo2O4 nanoparticles on the sheets of g-C3N4. NiCo2O4@g-C3N4 nanocomposite was employed in the fabrication of a screen-printed carbon electrode-based innovative electrochemical sensing platform and the adsorptive removal of a food dye, i.e., fast green FCF dye (FGD). The electrochemical oxidation of FGD at the developed NiCo2O4@g-C3N4 nanocomposite modified screen-printed carbon electrode (NiCo2O4@g-C3N4/SPCE) was observed at an oxidation potential of 0.65 V. A wide dual calibration range for electrochemical determination of FGD was successfully established at the prepared sensing platform, showing an excellent LOD of 0.13 µM and sensitivity of 0.6912 µA.µM-1.cm-2 through differential pulse voltammetry. Further, adsorbent dose, pH, contact time, and temperature were optimized to study the adsorption phenomena. The adsorption thermodynamics, isotherm, and kinetics were also investigated for efficient removal of FGD at NiCo2O4@g-C3N4-based adsorbents. The adsorption phenomenon of FGD on NiCo2O4@g-C3N4 was best fitted (R2 = 0.99) with the Langmuir and Henry model, and the corresponding value of Langmuir adsorption efficiency (qm) was 3.72 mg/g for the removal of FGD. The reaction kinetics for adsorption phenomenon were observed to be pseudo-second order. The sensitive analysis of FGD in a real sample was also studied.

Low-Cost Carbon Nanoparticles for Removing Hazardous Organic Pollutants from Water: Complete Remediation Study and Multi-Use Investigation

Continuous waste discharge into natural water resources in many countries is a severe global issue, and seeking an effective solution is a researcher’s concern. Herein, toilet paper waste was a low-cost precursor for preparing carbon nanoparticles (TPCNPs). The characterization of TPCNPs revealed a 30 nm to 50 nm particle size, a 264 m2 g−1 surface area, and a cubical graphite lattice XRD pattern. The TPCNPs were tested for removing malachite green (MG), indigo carmine (IC), rhodamine B (RB), and methylene blue (MB) dyes from water. The solution parameters were examined for the sorption process, and a pH of 5.0 suited the MB removal, while a pH of 6.0 was suitable for MG, IC, and RB. The effect of concentration investigation showed an adsorption capacity of 110.9, 64.8, 73.5, and 98 mg g−1 for MG, IC, RB, and MB, respectively. The sorption of the four dyes fitted the Langmuir isotherm model; it was exothermic and spontaneous. The water remediation was tested using groundwater and seawater samples (GW and SW) spiked with pollutants. It is worth mentioning that one treatment sufficed for the remediation of GW and SW contaminated by 5 mg L−1 concentration, while a double treatment was required for 10 mg L−1 pollution in both samples.
