Abstract
Magnetic mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MMSNPs) are being widely investigated as multifunctional novel drug delivery systems (DDSs) and play an important role in targeted therapy. Here, magnetic cores were synthesized using the thermal decomposition method. Further, to improve the biocompatibility and pharmacokinetic behavior, mesoporous silica was synthesized using the sol-gel process to coat the magnetic cores. Subsequently, sunitinib (SUN) was loaded into the MMSNPs, and the particles were armed with amine-modified mucin 1 (MUC-1) aptamers. The MMSNPs were characterized using FT-IR, TEM, SEM, electrophoresis gel, DLS, and EDX. MTT assay, flow cytometry analysis, ROS assessment, and mitochondrial membrane potential analysis evaluated the nanoparticles' biological impacts. The physicochemical analysis revealed that the engineered MMSNPs have a smooth surface and spherical shape with an average size of 97.6 nm. The biological in vitro analysis confirmed the highest impacts of the targeted MMSNPs in MUC-1 overexpressing cells (OVCAR-3) compared to the MUC-1 negative MDA-MB-231 cells. In conclusion, the synthesized MMSNP-SUN-MUC-1 nanosystem serves as a unique multifunctional targeted delivery system to combat the MUC-1 overexpressing ovarian cancer cells.

The Antibacterial Properties of Nanocomposites Based on Carbon Nanotubes and Metal Oxides Functionalized with Azithromycin and Ciprofloxacin. NANOMATERIALS (BASEL, SWITZERLAND) 2022; 12:4115. Abstract
Different microorganisms are present in nature, some of which are assumed to be hazardous to the human body. It is crucial to control their continuing growth to improve human life. Nanomaterial surface functionalization represents a current topic in continuous evolution that supports the development of new materials with multiple applications in biology, medicine, and the environment. This study focused on the antibacterial activity of different nanocomposites based on functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes against four common bacterial strains. Two metal oxides (CuO and NiO) and two antibiotics (azithromycin and ciprofloxacin) were selected for the present study to obtain the following nanocomposites: MWCNT-COOH/Antibiotic, MWCNT-COOH/Fe3O4/Antibiotic, and MWCNT-COOH/Fe3O4/MO/Antibiotic. The present study included two Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis) and two Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa). Ciprofloxacin (Cip) functionalized materials (MWCNT-COOH/Fe3O4/Cip) were most efficient against all tested bacterial strains; therefore, we conclude that Cu and Ni reduce the effects of Cip. The obtained results indicate that the nanocomposites functionalized with Cip are more effective against selected bacteria strains compared to azithromycin (Azi) functionalized nanocomposites. The current work determined the antibacterial activities of different nanocomposites and gave fresh insights into their manufacture for future research regarding environmental depollution.

Abstract
Two types of NiO-based composites (NiO@diatomite and Ni/NiO@diatomite) were synthesized as modified products of enhanced catalytic performances during the transesterification reactions of waste cooking oil. The influence of the diatomite substrate and the integration of metallic Ni0 in inducing the catalytic activity were evaluated in a series of transesterification reactions. The experimental conditions were adjusted according to the response surface methodology and the central composite statistical design. Experimentally, the diatomite substrate and the Ni0 metal induced the efficiency of the reaction to achieve a yield of 73.4% (NiO@diatomite) and 91% (Ni/NiO@diatomite), respectively, as compared to 66% for the pure phase (NiO). This was obtained under experimental conditions of 80 °C temperature, 100 min time, 12:1 methanol/oil molar ratio, and 3.75 wt % loading. The theoretical optimization functions of the designs suggested enhancement to the experimental conditions to achieve a yield of 76.3% by NiO@diatomite and 93.2% by Ni/NiO@diatomite. This reflected the role of the diatomite substrate in enhancing the surface area, the adsorption of fatty acids, and the exposure of the catalytic sites in addition to the effect of the Ni0 metal in enhancing the catalytic reactivity of the final product. Finally, the biodiesel produced over Ni/NiO@diatomite as the best product was of acceptable properties according to the international standards.

Abstract
Diatomite frustules decorated by nano Ni/NiO nanoparticles (Diatomite@Ni/NiO) were synthesized as a novel photocatalyst for effective degradation of malachite green cationic dye (M.G) and photocatalytic-reduction of Cr (VI) ions. The composite was characterized by different analytical techniques and revealed enhancing in the surface area (400 m2/g), 5.8 nm as average pore diameter and showed lower band gap energy (1.71 eV) than NiO as single phase. The photocatalytic activity of the composite in the removal of M.G and reduction of Cr (VI) was evaluated under visible light considering the pH, illumination time, catalyst mass, and the pollutants concentrations. The results revealed complete removal of 25 mg/L M.G can be achieved using 20 mg, 30 mg, 40 mg and 50 mg of the after 150 min, 90 min, 60 min, and 30 min, respectively. The complete degradation of 50 mg/L can be obtained after 240 min, 90 min, and 60 min using 20 mg, 40 mg, and 50 mg of the catalyst, respectively. This also was reported for the photocatlytic-reduction of 25 mg/L of Cr(VI) ions as the complete reduction was estimated after 180 min, 60 min and 30 min using 20 mg, 40 mg, and 50 mg, respectively. Also, 50 mg/L of Cr (VI) can be completely reduced after 240 min, 90 min, and 60 min using 20 mg, 40 mg, and 50 mg as catalyst dosage, respectively. The photocatalytic degradation of M.G controlled mainly by the generated electron-hole pairs and the superoxide species while the photocatalytic-reduction of Cr (VI) controlled mainly by the directly excited electrons of Ni/NiO and partially by the formed superoxide radicals. Hence, the synthetic diatomite@Ni/NiO composite can be considered as potential photocatalyst in the degradation of M.G dye and photoreduction of Cr (VI) ions.

Abstract
We report on the low cost and low temperature chemical synthesis of p-type nickel oxide (NiO) and n-type reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and their integration onto ITO/glass substrate to form p-NiO/n-rGO heterojunction for possible self-powered ultraviolet (UV) photodetector applications. Different spectroscopies and microscopes were employed to study their microstructural and surface properties. Whereas, the electrical characterizations have been performed on the devices to ascertain the responsivity, detectivity, external quantum efficiency and temporal responses under dark and UV illumination. It is noteworthy that rGO has not only been used as an n-type semiconductor, but also acted as an electron transport layer, which satisfactorily separates out the electrons from the generated carrier pairs, leading to enhanced photoresponse. Furthermore, efforts were also consecrated to synthesize Ag nanoparticles (NPs) of ∼5 nm radius. The integration of Ag NPs on the conventional NiO/rGO heterojunction facilitates an improved UV light absorption property. It was understood that the performance improvement was owed to the local surface plasmon resonance of Ag NPs within the active layer of NiO. Surprisingly, both the devices (with and without Ag NPs) exhibit photovoltaic behavior which shows its potential for self-powered device application. When the Ag NPs embedded device is concerned, it showed better on/off ratio (6.3 × 103), high responsivity (72 mAW-1), large detectivity (3.95 × 1012 Jones), and high efficiency (24.46%) as compared to the conventional NiO/rGO heterojunction one (without Ag NPs). The variation in the photoresponse and improved charge transport was explained through a band-diagram, which also showcases a comprehensive understanding on the operational principle of the fabricated self-powered devices. Thus, this self-powered photodetector driven by built in electric field is operated independently and can be attached with any other electronic gadgets for internet of things applications.

Abstract
In this study, a novel in situ choline sensor was assembled by attaching the binary Mn2O3/NiO nanoparticles (NPs) onto a glassy carbon electrode (GCE). Initially, Mn2O3/NiO NPs were synthesized via a wet-chemical process and fully characterized via XRD, XPS, FESEM, EDS, FTIR and UV-Vis methods. The analytical performances of the choline sensor were evaluated by an electrochemical method in the phosphate buffer phase. The estimated linear dynamic range (LDR) was found to be 0.1 nM to 0.1 mM. The other analytical performances of the choline sensor, such as sensitivity (16.4557 μA μM−1 cm−2) and detection limit (5.77 ± 0.29 pM), were also calculated very carefully from the calibration plot. Overall, the choline sensor exhibited a reliable reproducibility, in situ validity, selectivity, interference effect, stability, and intra-day and inter-day performances with high accuracy in a short response time. Moreover, the probe was successfully applied to detect choline in real human, mouse and rabbit serum. This fabrication route would be a novel approach for the detection of selective biochemical sensor in the healthcare and biomedical fields. In this study, a novel in situ choline sensor was assembled by attached the binary Mn2O3/NiO nanoparticles onto glassy carbon electrode, which might be a reliable way to develop of future sensor in the field of biomedical and healthcare fields.![]()

Abstract
A Ni-based catalyst supported over a spent fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalyst was prepared by a wet impregnation method. The catalytic characteristic was investigated in pine gum hydrogenation. Optimum conditions for catalyst preparation were obtained as: 15% Ni loading, 723 K calcination temperature, and 723 K reduction temperature for 2.5 h. The characterization results indicate that the specific surface area of the spent catalyst increased from 65.70 m2 g−1 to 67.78 m2 g−1 after calcination. The H2-TPR profile of the spent FCC catalyst exhibited two reduction peaks at 1123 °C and 670 °C. The TG curves showed that the second and third steps occur at 440 K and 550 K, respectively, having a total weight loss of 16%. The NiO grains possess rhombus particles on the surface or between the layers of the supported NiO catalyst. After activation in H2 flow, the metallic Ni loads on the support with no covalent bond between them. The NH3-TPD results indicated that the spent FCC catalyst held an obvious distribution of weakly acidic sites, and the acid sites became stronger after loading the catalyst with Ni. The hydrogenation products of pine gum were identified by GC-MS and a reaction mechanism was proposed. This study demonstrated its cost-effectiveness, environment-friendly nature and that the utilization of a spent FCC catalyst can be effectively applied as an alternative approach to pine gum hydrogenation on an industrial level. A Ni-based catalyst supported over a spent fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalyst was prepared by a wet impregnation method.![]()

Abstract
Nanocrystalline nickel oxide (NiO) were prepared by low cost sol–gel method and analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectra (EDX), Raman, photoluminescence (PL) and UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopic techniques. XRD spectrum confirmed the face centered cubic structure of NiO nanoparticles and it showed polycrystalline nature without any impurity. Magnetic ordered phase related modes of NiO nanoparticles was observed from Raman spectra, which also confirmed the absence of secondary phases in NiO nanoparticles. Linear and nonlinear refractive index and optical susceptibility of NiO nanoparticles were calculated and discussed using Tauc’s method and Wemple and DiDomenico single oscillator model. Calculated maximum value of third ordered nonlinear optical susceptibility ([Formula: see text] is [Formula: see text] revealed that the NiO nanoparticles were suitable in nonlinear optical devices applications. Simulation of second harmonic efficiency, spectral band width and quasi phase matching of NiO nanocrystals are discussed using optiFDTD.
