Abstract
BACKGROUND Schizophrenia is a chronic, relapsing, and burdensome psychiatric disorder affecting approximately 0.25%-0.6% of the US population. Oral antipsychotic treatment (OAT) remains the cornerstone for managing schizophrenia. However, nonadherence and high treatment failure lead to increased disease burden and medical spending. Cost-effective management of schizophrenia requires understanding the value of current therapies to facilitate better planning of management policies while addressing unmet needs. OBJECTIVE To review existing evidence and gaps regarding real-world effectiveness and economic and humanistic outcomes of OATs, including asenapine, brexpiprazole, cariprazine, iloperidone, lumateperone, lurasidone, olanzapine/samidorphan, paliperidone, and quetiapine. METHODS We conducted a literature search using PubMed, American Psychological Association PsycINFO (EBSCOhost), and the Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature from January 2010 to March 2022 as per Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. English-language articles describing adults with schizophrenia receiving at least 1 of the selected OATs and reporting real-world effectiveness, direct or indirect costs, humanistic outcomes, behavioral outcomes, adherence/persistence patterns, or product switching were identified. RESULTS We identified 25 studies from a total of 24,190 articles. Real-world effectiveness, cost, and adherence/persistence outcomes were reported for most OATs that were selected. Humanistic outcomes and product switching were reported only for lurasidone. Behavioral outcomes (eg, interpersonal relations and suicide ideation) were not reported for any OAT. The key economic outcomes across studies were incremental cost-effectiveness ratios, cost per quality-adjusted life-years, and health care costs. In studies that compared long-acting injectables (LAIs) with OATs, LAIs had a higher pharmacy and lower medical costs, while total health care cost was similar between LAIs and OATs. Indirect costs associated with presenteeism, absenteeism, or work productivity were not reported for any of the selected OATs. Overall, patients had poor adherence to OATs, ranging between 20% and 61% across studies. Product switching did not impact the all-cause health care costs before and after treatment. CONCLUSIONS Our findings showed considerable gaps exist for evidence on behavioral outcomes, humanistic outcomes, medication switching, and adherence/persistence across OATs. Our findings also suggest an unmet need regarding treatment nonadherence and lack of persistence among patients receiving OATs. We identified a need for research addressing OATs' behavioral and humanistic outcomes and evaluating the impact of product switching in adults with schizophrenia in the United States, which could assist clinicians in promoting patient-centered care and help payers understand the total value of new antipsychotic drugs.

Abstract
Since the end of 2019, the global spread of COVID-19 has represented a historic event that changed our way of treating patients globally. The use of long-acting injections (LAI) antipsychotics was emphasized. Our goal was to investigate the impact of COVID-19 on the frequency of prescribing LAI and compare it with a period before. All patients (198) who started LAI-risperidone or LAI-paliperidone for the period 2017-2022, in Kragujevac, the city in Central Serbia, were considered. The frequency of prescribing LAI before and during COVID-19 and the total number of prescribed LAI per year were compared. Separately, the frequency of prescribing LAI-R and the frequency of prescribing LAI-P were compared. The significant (p < 0,05) increase in the use of LAI risperidone and paliperidone was in 2020 and 2021 [per year 2017(3), 2018(6), 2019(26), 2020(75), 2021(55), and 2022(33)]. The significant (p < 0,05) increase in monthly and quarterly preparations of LAI paliperidone was in 2020 and 2021 relative to the years before the pandemic. As the pandemic weakened, the inclusion of LAI paliperidone therapy weakened during 2022. A significant increase in usage of LAI risperidone was in 2022, and in 2020 and 2021 was as it was in the period 2017-2019. During COVID-19, especially in years when COVID-19 restriction measures were stricter, there was a significant change in the application method of antipsychotic therapy in favor of LAI. Regardless of the increase in treatment costs, patients' interests and protection were prioritized in the treatment process.

Abstract
It is important to examine the psychotropic prescription practices in schizophrenia, as it can inform regarding changing treatment choices and related patient profiles. No recent reviews have evaluated the global neuropsychopharmacological prescription patterns in adults with schizophrenia. A systematic search of the literature published from 2002 to 2023 found 88 empirical papers pertinent to the utilization of psychotropic agents. Globally, there were wide inter-country and inter-regional variations in the prescription of psychotropic agents. Overall, over time there was an absolute increase in the prescription rate of second-generation antipsychotics (up to 50%), mood stabilizers (up to 15%), and antidepressants (up to 17%), with an observed absolute decrease in the rate of antipsychotic polypharmacy (up to 15%), use of high dose antipsychotic (up to 12% in Asia), clozapine (up to 9%) and antipsychotic long-acting injectables (up to 10%). Prescription patterns were mainly associated with specific socio-demographic (such as age), illness (such as illness duration), and treatment factors (such as adherence). Further work, including more evidence in adjunctive neuropsychopharmacological treatments, pharmaco-economic considerations, and examination of cohorts in prospective studies, can proffer insights into changing prescription trends relevant to different treatment settings and predictors of such trends for enhancement of clinical management in schizophrenia.

Abstract
Background Schizophrenia is a chronic mental disorder associated with substantial morbidity and mortality affecting 0.25–1.6% of adults in the USA. Antipsychotic treatment is the standard of care for schizophrenia, but real-world treatment patterns and associated costs have not been systematically reviewed. Objective We conducted a systematic review to summarize treatment patterns and associated costs related to oral antipsychotic treatment of patients with schizophrenia in the USA. Data Sources We searched Medline (via PubMed) and Embase to identify relevant observational studies published from January 1, 2008, to June 1, 2018; costs were converted to 2018 US dollars. Study Eligibility Observational, real-world studies reporting on patterns of treatment and/or associated costs for adult patients with schizophrenia treated with oral antipsychotics in the USA were included. Results Eighty-one studies were identified. Frequently prescribed oral second-generation antipsychotics were olanzapine (up to 50.9%), risperidone (up to 40.0%), and quetiapine (up to 30.7%). Suboptimal adherence was common across studies. Antipsychotic switching occurred in about half of patients, while antipsychotic combination therapy occurred in nearly 30%; all were associated with increased medication-related costs. Mean annual direct medical costs differed by treatment, with reported costs of $17,115 to $26,138 for patients treated with olanzapine, $18,395 for risperidone, and $17,656 to $28,101 for quetiapine. Limitations This systematic review is limited by the variations in definitions of schizophrenia-related clinical terms used between studies and by the inclusion of studies focused on only the US health care system. Conclusions In the treatment of schizophrenia, suboptimal adherence, antipsychotic switching, and antipsychotic augmentation were all associated with high costs of care in comparison to patients who were adherent and did not require antipsychotic switching or augmentation. These findings illustrate the need for the development of new treatments that address efficacy and adherence challenges of currently available therapies. Schizophrenia is a debilitating mental disorder that affects up to 1.6% of adults in the USA. Antipsychotic medications reduce symptoms of the disease, but many patients with schizophrenia are not fully adherent or choose to discontinue treatment entirely, increasing their risk of hospitalization. In others, efforts to achieve better symptom control or to avoid intolerable side effects may result in switching antipsychotic medications or adding additional medications, leading to higher medical treatment costs. The magnitude of these cost increases is unclear. This study sought to assess medical costs associated with antipsychotic treatment adherence, switching, and adding additional antipsychotics. We reviewed 81 studies published from January 2008 through June 2018 examining treatment adherence in patients with schizophrenia. We calculated rates of adherence, switching, and adding antipsychotics, as well as associated medical costs. Overall adherence to antipsychotic treatment was less than 50%, with up to 50% of patients switching medications and up to 29% adding an additional antipsychotic medication to their current treatment. Patients who were not treatment adherent incurred annual medical costs of $10,316 compared with $5723 in patients who were adherent. The costs of immediate or delayed switching of antipsychotic medications ranged from $21,922 to $28,232, while costs of adding an additional antipsychotic ranged from $24,045 to $29,344. These data suggest that suboptimal medication adherence, along with high rates of patient discontinuation and medication switching, lead to higher treatment costs in the management of patients with schizophrenia.

Abstract
Long-acting injectable (LAI) antipsychotic medications may be an important modality of reducing costs, improving symptoms, and fostering quality of life outcomes for those with schizophrenia. Our objective was to systematically review and conduct a meta-analysis of the effectiveness of LAIs compared with oral antipsychotics on medication adherence, symptom remission/relapse, rehospitalization, outpatient visits, emergency department visits, healthcare costs, and social functioning. We performed a systematic search of PsycInfo, CINAHL, PubMed, and Scopus databases to examine studies meeting inclusion criteria prior to August 30th, 2020. Randomized controlled trials, retrospective studies, prospective studies among people with schizophrenia with at least 6-month follow-up data were obtained. Overall effect sizes and associated 95% confidence intervals (CI) were estimated with random-effects modeling. We found 75 articles meeting our inclusion criteria, including 341 730 individuals with schizophrenia. Systematic review results indicated that LAIs compared with orals improved medication adherence (25/29 studies), symptom remission/relapse (10/18 studies), rehospitalizations (26/49 studies), emergency department visits (9/17 studies), medical costs (11/15 studies), and social functioning (5/9 studies); however, LAIs also increased outpatient visits (7/16 studies) and pharmacy costs (10/10 studies). Meta-analytic results of studies with similar outcome measures did not find differences between LAIs and orals in respect to outcomes, except lowering emergency department visits and increasing pharmacy costs. The differences between the results of the narrative synthesis and the meta-analyses were possibly because of the low availability of studies with similar outcomes in the pooled analyses. Our overall results suggest that LAIs are at least comparable to orals in supporting important healthcare outcomes for those with schizophrenia. These findings support clinical practice in encouraging providers to prescribe LAIs when indicated.

Abstract
Although relapse is an important outcome to measure the effectiveness of schizophrenia treatment, no standard definition exists. This review aimed at identifying definitions and measurements of schizophrenia relapse in observational studies of long‐acting injectables (LAIs) versus oral antipsychotics (OAPs) and at determining their impact on heterogeneity of comparative effectiveness estimates. A systematic review was conducted using MEDLINE and Embase (01 January 2010–11 November 2019 [date last searched]). Pragmatic searches of gray literature and snowballing were also conducted. Search outputs were screened independently by two assessors at first stage, and full‐text of potentially eligible sources at second stage. For each retained source, definition and measurement of relapse, study methods, and comparative effectiveness estimates were extracted. Heterogeneity of estimates was assessed using I2 statistic with a threshold of 50% for substantial heterogeneity. Literature search yielded 543 sources and pragmatic searches, 21, of which 35 were eligible. Twelve definitions of relapse were found based on hospitalization/emergency department (ED) data (28 studies) or clinical assessment (5 studies). No definition was provided in five studies. According to quantitative analyses, in studies defining relapse as schizophrenia‐related hospitalization and/or ED visits over 1‐year follow‐up, LAIs were significantly more effective than OAPs. For studies measuring relapse based on all‐cause hospitalization, heterogeneity was too high for pooling; yet this definition is the most frequently found in pooled estimates published in the literature. Schizophrenia relapse definitions led to substantial heterogeneity of comparative effectiveness estimates of LAIs versus OAPs. Creating study subgroups based on relapse definition effectively reduces statistical heterogeneity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Partial adherence to antipsychotics is the most common cause of relapses and rehospitalization in patients with schizophrenia (SZ), leading to higher health care costs and psychosocial disability. The use of long-acting injectable (LAI) antipsychotics may improve therapeutic continuity and adherence to treatment. OBJECTIVE To assess the effectiveness of switching from oral antipsychotics (OAs) to long-acting antipsychotics. METHODS This 1-year mirror-image study evaluated the effect of switching from OAs to LAIs on the reduction of psychiatric hospitalizations and the improvement of global functioning in patients with schizophrenia. Differences in outcomes between second-generation (SGA) LAIs and first-generation (FGA) LAIs were also analyzed. RESULTS In all, 166 patients were included: 32.5% treated by FGA-LAIs and 67.5% by SGA-LAIs. There was an overall reduction of 71% in the average number of hospital admissions and an overall improvement of 29.3% in the Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF) score between the previous 12 months and the 12 months following the switching to LAIs. Patients who switched to SGA-LAIs had no significant differences in hospitalization occurrences but a significant improvement in GAF scores when compared with patients who switched to FGA-LAIs. CONCLUSION Our results suggest that using LAIs could be the most adequate treatment choice for SZ patients with a high risk of relapse and low adherence rate. Patients with poorer social functioning may be ideal candidates for SGA-LAIs treatment. Our findings may be of particular interest from a clinical and health care management perspective.

Abstract
BACKGROUND: Despite therapeutic advances for patients with schizophrenia, improving patient outcomes and reducing the cost of care continue to challenge formulary decision makers. OBJECTIVES: To (1) understand the perspectives of formulary decision makers on challenges to optimal schizophrenia population management and (2) identify best practices and recommendations for mitigating these challenges. METHODS: This mixed-methods study, conducted in a double-blind manner, comprised in-depth telephone interviews with formulary decision makers from February through May 2020, and a web-based follow-on survey that was sent to all participants in October 2020. US-based formulary decision makers were recruited if they were directly involved in schizophrenia drug formulary or coverage decision making for national or regional payers, health systems, or behavioral health centers. Formulary decision makers' perceptions of challenges, policies, and programs related to schizophrenia population health management were assessed generally and in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. RESULTS: 19 formulary decision makers participated in the interviews and 18 (95%) completed the survey. Participants reported a spectrum of patient- and payer-driven challenges in schizophrenia population health management, including medication nonadherence, high pharmacy and medical costs, and frequent hospitalizations and emergency department visits. Participants noted that COVID-19 had worsened all identified challenges, although patient unemployment (mean score of 2.00 on a scale of 1 [made much worse] to 5 [made much better]) and reduced access to psychiatric care (mean score, 2.12) were most negatively affected. The most common strategies implemented in order to improve schizophrenia population health management included case management (89%), telemedicine (83%), care coordination programs (72%), strategies to mitigate barriers to accessing medication (61%), and providing nonmedical services to address social determinants of health (56%). Participants noted that, ideally, all treatments for schizophrenia would be available on their formularies without utilization management policies in place in order to increase accessibility to medication, but cost to the health plans made that difficult. Whereas 61% of respondents believed that long-acting injectable antipsychotics (LAIs) were currently underused in their organizations, only 28% represented organizations with open access policies for LAIs. Participants believed that among patients with schizophrenia, LAIs were most beneficial for those with a history of poor or uncertain adherence to oral medications (mean score of 4.50 on a scale of 1 [not at all beneficial] to 5 [extremely beneficial]) and those with recurring emergency department visits and inpatient stays (mean score, 3.94). Study participants reported slightly increased use of LAIs (mean score of 3.17 on a scale of 1 [negatively impacted] to 5 [positively impacted]) among their patients with schizophrenia in response to the COVID-19 pandemic; 29% of participants reported easing access restrictions for LAIs. CONCLUSIONS: Participants described persisting challenges and various approaches intended to improve schizophrenia population health management. They also recommended strategies to optimize future health management for this population, including expanding programs to address social determinants of health and mitigating barriers to accessing treatment. Abstract
BACKGROUND Evidence of comparative benefits of long-acting injectable antipsychotics (LAIs) versus oral antipsychotics for schizophrenia has been inconsistent across study designs. The aim of this study was to evaluate the comparative benefits of LAIs versus oral antipsychotics in three study designs to inform clinical decision making. METHODS We did a comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis comparing LAIs versus oral antipsychotics for schizophrenia covering three study designs: randomised controlled trials (RCTs), cohort studies, and pre-post studies. Our literature search was without language restrictions, in MEDLINE and PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Scopus, and Embase, for studies published from database inception up to a last search on March 13, 2020. We also searched for unpublished studies and ClinicalTrials.gov. We included studies lasting at least 6 months that targeted adults with schizophrenia and related disorders (>80% of participants). Studies on penfluridol (neither an LAI or daily oral antipsychotic), case reports, and case series with fewer than 20 patients were excluded. Two investigators independently extracted study-level data and resolved disagreement by consensus, or via a third investigator. Study authors were contacted to obtain additional information as needed. For our primary outcome we meta-analysed the risk ratio (RR) for hospitalisation or relapse with LAIs versus oral antipsychotics by a random-effects model, with hospitalisation used preferentially over relapse. As secondary analyses, we reversed the preferential order to relapse over hospitalisation, and assessed hospitalisation risk and relapse risk individually. Other secondary outcomes included all meta-analysable data, classed by relevance to effectiveness, efficacy, safety, quality of life, cognitive function, and other outcomes, and analysed by study design. Dichotomous outcomes were expressed as pooled RR and continuous outcomes as standardised mean difference (SMD). The protocol is registered with PROSPERO (CRD42019142094). FINDINGS We identified 14 687 records, of which 137 studies (397 319 patients) met the inclusion criteria (32 RCTs [23·4%; 8577 patients], 65 cohort studies [47·4%; 377 447 patients], and 40 pre-post studies [29·2%; 11 295 patients]) and were analysed. The quality of studies in terms of risk of bias varied across study designs and within each study design from low to high. LAIs were associated with a lower risk of hospitalisation or relapse than oral antipsychotics in each of the three study designs (RCTs: 29 studies, 7833 patients, RR 0·88 [95% CI 0·79-0·99], p=0·033; cohort studies: 44 studies, 106 136 patients, RR 0·92 [0·88-0·98], p=0·0044; pre-post studies: 28 studies, 17 876 patients, RR 0·44 [0·39-0·51], p<0·0001). This association was maintained across the study designs when we reversed the preferential order to risk of relapse over hospitalisation, and in individual analysis of hospitalisation risk. The association was maintained only in pre-post studies for relapse risk alone. In all other outcomes related to effectiveness, efficacy, safety, quality of life, cognitive function, and other outcomes, LAIs were more beneficial than oral antipsychotics in 60 (18·3%) of 328 comparisons, not different in 252 (76·8%) comparisons, and less beneficial in 16 (4·9%) comparisons when analysed by study design. Significant heterogeneity was observed across all three study designs. Publication biases were apparent in cohort and pre-post studies, but effect sizes were similar after trim-and-fill analyses. INTERPRETATION Although study designs have strengths and weaknesses, including potential low quality of observational studies, we consistently identified significant benefit with LAIs versus oral antipsychotics in preventing hospitalisation or relapse, in settings ranging from restricted research (RCTs) to real-word application (cohort and pre-post studies). Our findings suggest that increased clinical use of LAIs could improve outcomes in schizophrenia. FUNDING None. Abstract
PURPOSE Patients with schizophrenia often struggle with medication adherence and may benefit from the use of a long-acting injectable antipsychotic, including once-monthly paliperidone palmitate (PP1M), which was previously demonstrated to improve outcomes compared with oral antipsychotics. This study assessed the impact of initiating PP1M therapy on medication adherence, health care resource use (HRU), and costs among Medicaid beneficiaries with schizophrenia and a prior schizophrenia relapse. METHODS A 6-state Medicaid database (from quarter 1 of 2009 to quarter 1 of 2018) was used to identify adults with ≥2 schizophrenia diagnoses who started PP1M therapy on or after January 1, 2010. The index date was the first PP1M claim. Patients had ≥12 months of continuous Medicaid enrollment before and after the index date, ≥1 oral antipsychotic claim in the 12 months before the index date, and ≥1 relapse (proxied as a schizophrenia-related inpatient admission or emergency department [ED] visit) during the 12 months before the index date. Generalized estimating equations were used to compare adherence to antipsychotics (proportion of days covered ≥80%), HRU, and costs (reported in 2018 US dollars) in the 12 months after versus before the index date. Sensitivity analyses were conducted (1) accounting for the minimum and cumulative price inflation Medicaid rebates for pharmacy costs of branded psychiatric medications, (2) among patients with ≥2, ≥3, and ≥4 prior schizophrenia-related inpatient admissions or ED visits, (3) among patients not adherent to antipsychotic treatment before the index date, and (4) among patients switching to PP1M directly from oral risperidone or paliperidone. FINDINGS A total of 1725 patients met the study inclusion criteria (mean age, 39.5 years; 43% female). After versus before the index date, patients were 93% more likely to be adherent to antipsychotic treatment (P < 0.01). The likelihood of inpatient admissions and ED visits decreased by 89% and 49% (all P < 0.01) after initiating PP1M therapy. The number of inpatient days decreased by 31% (P < 0.01) and the number of ED visits by 16% (P = 0.03). Pharmacy costs increased by $514 per-patient-per-month (PPPM), whereas medical costs, driven by inpatient costs, decreased by $391 PPPM (all P < 0.01). Sensitivity analyses yielded similar trends. Notably, total health care cost savings of $231 PPPM were observed after accounting for the cumulative Medicaid rebate for costs of branded psychiatric medications (P < 0.01). IMPLICATIONS In Medicaid beneficiaries with relapsed schizophrenia, transitioning from oral antipsychotics to PP1M was associated with improved adherence to antipsychotics and decreased use of inpatient and ED services. Increased pharmacy costs after the initiation of PP1M were offset by decreased medical costs. After applying the cumulative Medicaid rebate, including the price inflation rebate for costs of branded psychiatric medications, initiation of PP1M therapy resulted in statistically significant health care cost savings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Long-acting injectable (LAI) antipsychotics, compared with oral antipsychotics (OA), have been found to significantly improve patient outcomes, including reduced hospitalizations and emergency room (ER) admissions and increased medication adherence among adult patients with schizophrenia. In turn, the clinical benefits achieved may translate into lower economic burden. Real-world evidence of the comparative effectiveness of LAI is needed to understand the potential benefits of LAI outside of the context of clinical trials. This study aimed to provide a comprehensive synthesis of recent published real-world studies comparing healthcare utilization, costs, and adherence between patients with schizophrenia treated with LAI versus OA in the United States. METHODS In this systematic literature review, MEDLINE® was searched for peer-reviewed, real-world studies (i.e., retrospective or pragmatic designs) published in English between January 1, 2010 and February 10, 2020. Comparative studies reporting hospitalizations, ER admissions, healthcare costs, or medication adherence (measured by proportion of days covered [PDC]) in adults with schizophrenia treated with LAI versus OA (or pre- vs post-LAI initiation) in the United States were retained. Random effects meta-analyses were conducted among eligible studies to evaluate the association of LAI versus OA use on hospitalizations, ER admissions, healthcare costs, and treatment adherence. A sensitivity analysis among the subset of studies that compared OA with paliperidone palmitate once monthly (PP1M), specifically, was conducted. RESULTS A total of 1083 articles were identified by the electronic literature search, and two publications were manually added subsequently. Among the 57 publications meeting the inclusion criteria, 25 provided sufficient information for inclusion in the meta-analyses. Compared with patients treated with OA, patients initiated on LAI had lower odds of hospitalization (odds ratio [OR] 0.62, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.54-0.71, n = 7), fewer hospitalizations (incidence rate ratio [IRR] [95% CI] 0.75 [0.65-0.88], n = 9), and fewer ER admissions (IRR [95% CI] 0.86 [0.77-0.97], n = 6). The initiation of LAI was associated with higher per-patient-per-year (PPPY) pharmacy costs (mean difference [MD] [95% CI] $5603 [3799-7407], n = 6), which was offset by lower PPPY medical costs (MD [95% CI] - $5404 [- 7745 to - 3064], n = 6), resulting in no significant net difference in PPPY total all-cause healthcare costs between patients treated with LAI and those treated with OA (MD [95% CI] $327 [- 1565 to 2219], n = 7). Patients initiated on LAI also had higher odds of being adherent to their medication (PDC ≥ 80%; OR [95% CI] 1.89 [1.52-2.35], n = 9). A sensitivity analysis on a subset of publications evaluating PP1M found results similar to those of the main analysis conducted at the LAI class level. CONCLUSIONS Based on multiple studies with varying sub-types of patient populations with schizophrenia in the United States published in the last decade, this meta-analysis demonstrated that LAI antipsychotics were associated with improved medication adherence and significant clinical benefit such as reduced hospitalizations and ER admissions compared with OA. The lower medical costs offset the higher pharmacy costs, resulting in a non-significant difference in total healthcare costs. Taken together, these findings provide strong evidence on the clinical and economic benefits of LAI compared with OA for the treatment of schizophrenia in the real world.

Abstract
Objective Long-acting injectable (LAI) antipsychotics, such as paliperidone palmitate (PP), are known to improve treatment adherence in patients with schizophrenia, which can lead to reductions in relapse and hospitalization rates. However, relatively few studies have demonstrated the economic impact of LAIs, especially in Asian populations. Methods We conducted a claim-based mirror-image study to explore changes in healthcare utilization and associated costs, among 1,272 South Korean patients with schizophrenia (ICD-10-CM code F20), between the 1-year periods before and after the initiation of PP treatment. Results Patients accessed outpatient services more frequently after versus before starting PP treatment, with the number of prescription days increasing by 133.45 (p < 0.0001) and the associated costs increasing by USD 1,497.15 (p < 0.0001). The number of admission days was reduced by 11.33 after starting PP treatment (p < 0.0001) and the associated costs were reduced by USD 1,220.75 (p < 0.0001). However, admission cost savings were different according to patients’ oral drug compliance. The daily dosages for benztropine, procyclidine, and propranolol decreased, showing that there were fewer side-effects after PP-treatment (p < 0.0001). Conclusion Although the high acquisition cost of PP has been regarded as an obstacle to its clinical use, our results imply that the high prescription costs for PP may be counterbalanced by the reduced admission costs associated with its use. Economic outcomes for patients treated with LAIs should be investigated further to help healthcare decision-makers and providers to determine the value of LAIs relative to other treatment medications.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recent evidence has demonstrated that, over 12 months, pharmacy costs associated with switching nonadherent recently relapsed patients from oral atypical antipsychotics (OAAs) to once-monthly paliperidone palmitate (PP1M) were offset by reduced relapse rates and schizophrenia-related health care costs. In addition, earlier use of PP1M may generate greater cost savings. OBJECTIVE To project the long-term economic impact when a proportion of nonadherent patients with a recent relapse switch from OAAs to PP1M. METHODS A 36-month decision-tree model with twelve 3-month cycles was developed from a Medicaid payer's perspective. The target population was nonadherent, recently relapsed OAA patients. At equal adherence, probability of relapse was equal between PP1M and OAAs, and OAA patients were nonadherent until treatment switch. Event rates (adherence, relapse, and switch) and cost inputs (pharmacy and relapse) were based on the literature, and rates remained constant. Outcomes included number of relapses, pharmacy costs, and relapse costs (2017 U.S. dollars) at years 1, 2, and 3. One-way sensitivity (OSA) and probabilistic sensitivity analyses (PSA) evaluated the effect of varying model inputs on health plan and per-patient level costs. RESULTS Based on a hypothetical health plan of 1 million members, 3,037 OAA patients were recently relapsed and nonadherent. Compared with continuing OAAs, switching 5% of patients (n = 152) to PP1M resulted in net cost savings of $674,975, $723,298, and $562,310 at the plan level; $4,445, $4,764, and $3,703 per patient switched per year; and $0.0562, $0.0603, and $0.0469 per member per month in years 1, 2, and 3, respectively, resulting in total plan-level savings of > $1.9 million over 3 years. A total of 221 relapses were avoided (year 1: 92; year 2: 72; and year 3: 57). In years 1, 2, and 3, respectively, total annual plan-level schizophrenia-related costs were $114.1 million, $107.2 million, and $105.8 million when all patients switched to PP1M before any subsequent relapse (n = 3,037); $123.4 million, $109.6 million, and $106.7 million when patients switched to PP1M after a first subsequent relapse (n = 2,631); and $127.6 million, $121.6 million, and $117.0 million when all patients remained on OAAs. The cost per patient switched to PP1M was lower when all patients received PP1M before a subsequent relapse versus after their first subsequent relapse at all years (year 1: $37,559 vs. $45,089; year 2: $35,288 vs. $36,321; and year 3: $34,826 vs. $35,155). OSA demonstrated consistent net cost savings per patient switched, ranging from $640 to $10,484 (year 1); $1,774 to $9,245 (year 2); and $1,354 to $7,026 (year 3). PSA demonstrated 96.3%, 99.7%, and 99.7% of iterations were cost saving in years 1, 2 and 3, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Pharmacy costs associated with switching nonadherent OAA patients with a recent relapse to PP1M were offset by reduced relapse rates and health care costs at years 1, 2, and 3, with earlier use of PP1M resulting in increased cost savings at all years. Objectives: To describe ixekizumab treatment patterns, all-cause healthcare utilization, and costs among psoriasis patients.Methods: Adults diagnosed with psoriasis having ≥1 ixekizumab claim were selected from MarketScan® databases between March 01, 2016 and July 31, 2017. Patients were continuously enrolled for ≥6 months prior and ≥3 months after the index date (first ixekizumab claim) and followed until inpatient death, end of enrollment, or end of data. Treatment patterns included persistence, switching, and re-initiation. All-cause utilization and costs were reported per-patient-per-month (PPPM).Results: 801 patients (mean age 49 years; 55.8% male; median follow-up 201 days) were included. Among all patients, 87.4% were persistent (mean (median) duration 86 (75) days) Of the 12.6% of patients who discontinued ixekizumab, 11.9% re-initiated and 6.9% switched treatments. Mean (median) time to switching was 208 (206) days. Mean number of all-cause inpatient admissions and physician office visits PPPM were 0.01 and 0.72, respectively. Mean total cost PPPM was $8,371, of which pharmacy comprised $7,792. Ixekizumab costs, $7,079, occurred primarily during induction and were paid predominantly by health plans ($6,810 [96.2%]).Conclusion: Most (87.4%) ixekizumab users remained persistent during follow-up. Pharmacy was the primary driver of total healthcare costs, with the majority covered by health plans and <4% as patient out-of-pocket expense.

Abstract
Aims: Among patients with schizophrenia, poor adherence and persistence with oral atypical antipsychotics (OAA) often results in relapse and hospitalization. Second-generation antipsychotic long-acting injectables (SGA LAI) have demonstrated higher adherence than first-generation antipsychotic LAI and OAA therapies. This study aimed to determine whether SGA LAIs are associated with better persistency compared to OAA among Medicaid recipients with schizophrenia. Materials and methods: From the MarketScan Medicaid Database (January 1, 2010-June 30, 2016), patients aged ≥18 years with schizophrenia and ≥2 pharmacy claims more than 90 days apart for the same SGA LAI or OAA were selected. New users of the specific antipsychotic agent were classified, based on their index agent, as: OAA, paliperidone palmitate LAI (PPLAI), aripiprazole LAI (ALAI), and risperidone LAI (RLAI). Discontinuation during 1 year of follow-up was defined as a ≥ 60-day gap in the index OAA or SGA LAI medication past the exhaustion of the previous claim's supply. Inverse probability of treatment weights (IPTW) balanced the cohort characteristics, and weight outliers (<0.1 or >0.9) were excluded. IPTW-weighted Cox proportional hazards regression estimated hazard ratios for discontinuation. Results: Cohorts included 7,029 OAA, 4,302 PPLAI, 586 ALAI, and 1,456 RLAI patients. Mean age was 38.0-41.0 years and 44.0-46.6% were female. Persistence was significantly longer in the SGA LAI cohorts than in the OAA cohort. Adjusted hazard ratios (95% confidence intervals) for discontinuation were 0.60 (0.56-0.64) for PPLAI, 0.69 (0.60-0.79) for ALAI, and 0.70 (0.64-0.77) for RLAI vs OAA. Limitations: Results may not be generalizable to patients covered by commercial or Medicare insurance, and limitations inherent to any claims-based retrospective analysis apply. Conclusions: SGA LAI may be a valuable option for treating schizophrenia given the improvement in persistence.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate patient satisfaction with pharmacist-administered long-acting injectable antipsychotics (LAIAs) in the community pharmacy. DESIGN Prospective survey. SETTING Albertsons Companies community pharmacies during December 2016 to February 2017. PARTICIPANTS Patients receiving LAIAs at participating pharmacies. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES A survey assessed patients' satisfaction with pharmacist-administered LAIAs in the community pharmacy. RESULTS LAIA recipients (N = 104) reported satisfaction with community pharmacist-administered LAIAs. Participants who had received the service at other types of health clinics (N = 57) also reported higher satisfaction with current service compared to a similar service received elsewhere. Participants indicated that they would recommend service to others and that service was more convenient than a similar service received in an alternative setting. There was not a statistically significant relationship between patient demographic characteristics and likelihood of recommending service to others. CONCLUSION Patients were satisfied with a pharmacist-administered LAIA service in the community pharmacy, and they found it more convenient than similar services provided elsewhere.

Abstract
Introduction Antipsychotics improve symptoms associated with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. To improve medication adherence and decrease the need for hospitalization, many antipsychotics have been developed into long-acting injectable (LAI) formulations. Though mirror-image studies have demonstrated significantly decreased hospitalization rates with LAI use, there is limited data when suboptimal use parameters are present. Methods A retrospective chart review was conducted on patients who were administered aripiprazole monohydrate long-acting injectable (AM-LAI) in an adult mental health unit. Demographics and AM-LAI use parameters were analyzed descriptively. Endpoints compared the days between encounters pre and post AM-LAI administration and number of inpatient encounters between the 180 days pre and post AM-LAI administration. Effects of AM-LAI on inpatient encounters were analyzed using a Wilcoxon signed rank test with an alpha set to <0.05 for significance. Results Fifty-eight patients met inclusion criteria. Mean (± SD) age was 39.4 (11.4) years with 55.2% of the sample male. Most patients were diagnosed with schizophrenia or unspecified psychotic disorder and admitted involuntarily. The mean number of days from last admission to the date of initial AM-LAI administration was 109.3 (75.2), compared with 131.3 (69.8) days to next encounter (P = .044) post AM-LAI. Total inpatient encounters were also reduced (P = .004), although no differences in encounters for psychiatric reasons were detected. Discussion Use of AM-LAI was associated with a prolonged time to next inpatient encounter and reduced total inpatient encounters, however its use failed to demonstrate reductions in psychiatric encounters.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Multiple real-world studies have reported potential cost savings associated with second-generation antipsychotic long-acting injectable therapies (SGA-LAIs), including once monthly paliperidone palmitate (PP1M). Yet, only about 12% of Medicaid patients with schizophrenia initiate SGA-LAIs, with poor adherence contributing to frequent relapse among patients on oral atypical antipsychotics (OAAs). The objective of this study was to project the economic impact when an incremental proportion of non-adherent patients with a recent relapse switched from OAAs to PP1M. METHODS A 12 month decision-tree model was developed from a Medicaid payers' perspective. The target population was non-adherent OAA patients with a recent relapse. At equal adherence, risk of relapse was equal between PP1M and OAAs, and OAA patients remained non-adherent until treatment switch. Outcomes included number of relapses, relapse costs and pharmacy costs. RESULTS Based on a hypothetical health plan of 1 million members, 3037 schizophrenia patients were non-adherent on OAAs with a recent relapse. Compared to continuing OAAs, switching 5% of patients (n = 152) to PP1M resulted in net schizophrenia-related cost savings of $674,975 at a plan level, $4445 per patient switched per year and $0.0562 per member per month, with a total of 92 avoided relapses over 12 months. Total annual plan level schizophrenia-related costs were $114.1 M when all patients switched to PP1M before any subsequent relapse (n = 3037), $123.4 M when patients switched to PP1M after a first subsequent relapse (n = 2631), and $127.6 M when all patients continued OAAs. Switching all patients to PP1M before any subsequent relapse averted 917 relapses, at a lower cost per patient switched ($37,559) compared to switching after a first subsequent relapse ($45,089) or continuing OAAs ($42,005). CONCLUSION Over 12 months, pharmacy costs associated with switching patients from OAAs to PP1M were offset by reduced relapse rates and schizophrenia-related healthcare expenditures, with earlier use of PP1M projected to generate greater cost savings.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of the present study was to describe antipsychotic utilization patterns among patients with schizophrenic disorder in Italy, Spain, the UK, and the USA. METHODS A retrospective cohort study was conducted. Patients aged 15 and over with schizophrenic disorder were identified in the Caserta claims database (Italy), the Valencia electronic medical record (EMR) database (Spain), in The Health Improvement Network EMR database (UK), and in databases of publicly and privately insured populations in the United States (US). RESULTS The frequency of first-generation or second-generation antipsychotic use and of long-acting or other formulations was described. Persistence to antipsychotics was estimated. Overall, 1,403,240 patients with schizophrenic disorder having a total of 765,573 new antipsychotic treatment episodes were identified. The median follow-up time ranged from 0.8 (IQR 0.2-1.9) years in the US commercially-insured population to 1.2 (IQR 0.1-1.7) years in the Spanish population. Second-generation antipsychotics were more frequently used than first-generation antipsychotics in all countries (on average, from 64.4% in the UK to 87% in US): the use of this class increased over time in Italy, Spain, and US (Medicaid). The use of long-acting formulations was heterogeneous across countries, but generally much lower than other formulations. Persistence to antipsychotic treatment at 1 year was low in all countries, ranging from 40 in Spain to 30% in Italy. CONCLUSIONS Antipsychotic utilization was heterogeneous among persons with schizophrenic disorder. Nevertheless, low persistence was an issue in all the countries, as less than half of the patients continued their treatment beyond 1 year.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare treatment patterns and Medicaid spending between schizophrenia patients initiating once-monthly paliperidone palmitate (PP1M) and oral atypical antipsychotics (OAAs) within four comorbid populations: cardiovascular disease (CVD), diabetes, hypertension and obesity. METHODS Five-state Medicaid data identified comorbid adults with schizophrenia initiating PP1M or OAAs (index) from September 2009 balanced with inverse probability of treatment weighting. Chi-squared and t-tests compared index antipsychotic (AP) exposure (no gap >90 days) duration, AP polypharmacy, and index AP adherence (proportion of days covered ≥80%) and persistence (no gap ≥60 days) at 12 months post-index. Linear models with a non-parametric bootstrap procedure compared costs. RESULTS PP1M patients consistently had longer index AP exposure (e.g. CVD: 244 vs. 189 days; p < .001) and less AP polypharmacy (e.g. CVD: 21.1% vs. 28.1%; p < .001) versus OAA patients. Relative to OAA patients, adherence was more likely in PP1M patients with CVD or obesity (e.g. CVD: 28.6% vs. 22.1%; p < .001) and less likely for patients with diabetes (22.0% vs. 24.4%; p = .031). Persistence was consistently more likely for PP1M versus OAA patients (e.g. CVD: 49.9% vs. 27.4%; p < .001). Total costs were not significantly different between PP1M and OAA patients for any comorbidity. PP1M patients with diabetes, hypertension or obesity had higher pharmacy and lower medical costs (all p < .05). CONCLUSIONS Treatment with PP1M versus OAAs may reduce AP polypharmacy and increase AP persistence in comorbid patients with schizophrenia, without increasing total healthcare costs. Comorbidities are a highly prevalent driver of excess mortality in this vulnerable population; thus, future studies should specifically address the real-world effectiveness of therapies, including long acting injectable therapies (LAIs), for these patients.

Abstract
Aim: To compare adherence, healthcare utilization and costs among real world, Medicare-eligible patients with schizophrenia using long-acting injectable paliperidone palmitate (PP) versus oral atypical antipsychotics. Patients & methods: Historical cohort study used Medicare Advantage claims data. Inverse probability of treatment weighting was applied to adjust for baseline differences. 12-month adherence, healthcare utilization and costs were compared. Results: Patients using PP were more adherent (proportion of days covered ≥0.8; 48.1 vs 32.6%; p < 0.001), had lower odds of hospitalization (odds ratio [OR]: 0.81; 95% CI: 0.68-0.96) and lower medical costs ($11,095; 95% CI: $10,374-11,867 vs $15,551; 95% CI: $14,584-16,583), but higher pharmacy costs ($14,787; 95% CI: $14,117-15,488 vs $5781; 95% CI: $5530-6043). Conclusion: Compared with patients using oral atypical antipsychotics, PP had lower hospitalizations and medical costs with greater medication adherence accompanied by higher pharmacy costs.

Abstract
AIMS To examine medication adherence and discontinuation in two separate groups of patients with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder (BD), who began receiving a long-acting injectable antipsychotic (LAI) versus those who changed to a different oral antipsychotic monotherapy. MATERIALS AND METHODS The Truven Health Analytics MarketScan Multi-State Medicaid claims database was used to identify patients with schizophrenia; Truven Health Analytics MarketScan Commercial and Medicaid claims databases were used to identify patients with BD. The analyses included adult patients (≥18 years) who either began receiving an LAI (no prior LAI therapy) or changed to a different oral antipsychotic (monotherapy). The first day of initiating an LAI or changing to a new oral antipsychotic was the index date. Linear and Cox regression models were conducted to estimate medication adherence (proportion of days covered [PDC]) and time to medication discontinuation (continuous medication gap ≥60 days), respectively. Models adjusted for patient demographic and clinical characteristics, baseline medication use, and baseline ED or hospitalizations. RESULTS Patients with schizophrenia (N = 5638) who began receiving LAIs had better medication adherence (5% higher adjusted mean adherence) during the 1 year post-index period and were 20% less likely to discontinue their medication during the entire follow-up period than patients who changed to a different oral antipsychotic monotherapy, adjusting for differences between LAI users and oral users. Similarly, patients with BD (N = 11,344) who began receiving LAIs also had 5% better medication adherence and were 19% less likely to discontinue their medication than those using oral antipsychotics. LIMITATIONS Clinical differences unmeasurable in this database may have been responsible for the choice of LAI versus oral antipsychotics, and these differences may be responsible for some of the adherence advantages observed. CONCLUSIONS This real-world study suggests that patients with schizophrenia or BD who began receiving LAIs had better medication adherence and lower discontinuation risk than those who changed to a different oral antipsychotic monotherapy.

Abstract
Objective The objective of this study was to compare persistence, costs, and healthcare resource utilization in patients with schizophrenia and cardiometabolic comorbidities treated with once-monthly paliperidone palmitate or an oral atypical antipsychotic. Methods Medicaid data from six states (07/2009–03/2015) were used to identify adults with schizophrenia and cardiometabolic comorbidities initiated on once-monthly paliperidone palmitate or an oral atypical antipsychotic (index date) on 01/2010 or after. Persistence to index medication at 12 months (no gap ≥ 90 days) was compared between patients taking once-monthly paliperidone palmitate and an oral atypical antipsychotic using Chi-squared tests. The 12-month post-index healthcare costs and healthcare resource utilization were compared using multivariate ordinary least squares and Poisson regression, respectively. Results Selected patients taking once-monthly paliperidone palmitate (n = 371) were younger (mean age: 45.0 vs. 47.5 years, standardized difference = 24%) than patients taking oral atypical antipsychotics (n = 8296). Persistence at 12 months was higher in patients taking once-monthly paliperidone palmitate (40 vs. 33%, p = 0.006). Adjusted all-cause medical costs were lower in patients taking once-monthly paliperidone palmitate vs. patients taking oral atypical antipsychotics (mean monthly cost differences = US $ − 369, p = 0.004) while all-cause pharmacy costs were higher (mean monthly cost differences = US $279, p < 0.001), resulting in no significant difference in total costs (mean monthly cost differences = US $ − 90, p = 0.357). No significant difference was observed in cardiometabolic comorbidity-related pharmacy or medical costs. Compared with patients taking oral atypical antipsychotics, patients taking once-monthly paliperidone palmitate had more schizophrenia-related outpatient visits (incidence rate ratio = 1.44, p < 0.001) but fewer cardiometabolic comorbidity-related inpatient admissions (incidence rate ratio = 0.73, p < 0.001) with shorter lengths of stay (incidence rate ratio = 0.72, p = 0.020), and fewer cardiometabolic comorbidity-related long-term care admissions (incidence rate ratio = 0.56, p = 0.016). Conclusions Medicaid beneficiaries with schizophrenia and cardiometabolic comorbidities who were initiated on once-monthly paliperidone palmitate had similar 12-month total healthcare costs compared with oral atypical antipsychotics. Cardiometabolic comorbidity-related utilization of inpatient and long-term care services was lower in patients taking once-monthly paliperidone palmitate. Abstract
BACKGROUND Once-monthly paliperidone palmitate (PP1M) is a long-acting injectable antipsychotic that may increase adherence rates, reduce hospitalizations, and lower medical costs compared to oral atypical antipsychotics (OAAs) among schizophrenia patients. However, the impact of PP1M in recently diagnosed patients remains unknown. The present study compared adherence, healthcare resource utilization and Medicaid spending between schizophrenia patients initiating PP1M versus OAA, among patients recently diagnosed (defined using ages 18-25 years as a proxy) and among the overall population. METHODS Medicaid data from five states (09/2008-03/2015) were used to identify adults with schizophrenia initiated on PP1M or OAAs (index date) on or after 09/2009. Outcomes were compared between PP1M and OAA groups following inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW). Univariate linear and Poisson regression models with nonparametric bootstrap procedures were used to compare the 12-month healthcare resource utilization and costs using rate ratios (RRs) and mean monthly cost differences (MMCDs), respectively. RESULTS Overall, patients initiated on PP1M (N = 2053) were younger (mean age: 41 vs. 44 years) and had more baseline antipsychotic use (88% vs. 62%) compared to OAA patients (N = 22,247). IPTW resulted in balanced baseline characteristics. Among recently diagnosed patients, PP1M was associated with better adherence (PDC ≥ 80%: 29% vs. 21%, P < 0.001) on the index medication as well as less use of other psychiatric medications, compared to OAAs. Adherence findings were similar for the overall cohort. Among recently diagnosed patients, lower medical costs associated with PP1M (MMCD = $-466; P = 0.028) outweighed the higher pharmacy costs (MMCD = $322; P < 0.001) resulting in similar total healthcare costs across groups (MMCD = $-144; P = 0.553). Overall, findings were similar but there was a trend toward a lower magnitude of medical cost savings (MMCD = $-286; P < 0.001). Reductions in medical costs were mainly driven by reductions in inpatient days (recently diagnosed RR = 0.85, P = 0.353; overall RR = 0.84, P = 0.004) and in home care visits (recently diagnosed RR = 0.43, P = 0.008; overall RR = 0.78, P = 0.048). CONCLUSIONS PP1M patients demonstrated significantly lower medical costs offsetting higher pharmacy costs relative to OAA patients. Recently diagnosed patients using PP1M may have greater medical cost savings relative to OAAs than that observed in the overall population, highlighting the potential economic impact of PP1M in adults recently diagnosed with schizophrenia.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare all-cause health care utilization and costs between patients with schizophrenia treated with once monthly paliperidone palmitate (PP1M; Invega Sustenna 1 ) and atypical oral antipsychotic therapy (OAT). METHODS This was a retrospective claims-based analysis among adult California Medicaid (Medi-Cal) patients with schizophrenia having ≥2 claims for PP1M or OAT from 1 July 2009 to 31 December 2013 and continuous health plan enrollment for ≥1 year pre- and post-index date (PP1M or OAT initiation date). Baseline characteristics were reported descriptively. Propensity score matching with a 1:1 greedy match method was used to create two matched cohorts. Treatment patterns, all-cause health care utilization, and costs for the 12 month follow-up period were compared between the two matched cohorts. RESULTS Two well matched cohorts of 722 patients were produced with similar baseline characteristics. During the 12 month follow-up period, PP1M patients were significantly less likely to discontinue treatment (30.6% vs. 39.5%, p < .001) or switch to a new therapy (21.6% vs. 27.7%, p = .007). PP1M patients had fewer inpatient visits (5.0 vs. 7.9, p < .001), lower mean hospitalization days (15.0 vs. 27.7 days, p < .001) and inpatient costs ($5060 vs. $10,880, p < .001). While pharmacy costs were significantly higher in the PP1M cohort ($16,347 vs. $9115, p < .001), total costs were not significantly different between the matched cohorts ($25,546 vs. $25,307, p = 0.853). CONCLUSIONS Patients with schizophrenia treated with PP1M had significantly fewer inpatient hospitalizations and associated costs with no significant difference in the total costs between the two cohorts. This study is subject to limitations associated with claims data such as miscoding, inability to examine clinical severity, etc.

Abstract
Schizophrenia presents a substantial clinical and economic burden to the health-care system. In QUAlity of LIfe with AbiliFY Maintena (QUALIFY), a randomized head-to-head study of aripiprazole once-monthly 400 mg (AOM 400) compared with paliperidone palmitate (PP; 78-234 mg/mo), AOM 400 demonstrated greater improvement in health-related quality of life and functioning in patients with stable schizophrenia. The present analysis used health economics assessment data collected during the QUALIFY study to determine the direct medical and pharmacy costs and the cost-effectiveness associated with each treatment over 6 months. Compared with those receiving PP, patients receiving AOM 400 incurred significantly lower direct total costs ($8908±186 vs $9675±190, p=0.005) and treatment costs ($7967±113 vs $8706±116, p<0.001). Effectiveness results in the subset of patients included in the cost analyses were similar to the overall population: mean (95% CI) improvement in Heinrichs-Carpenter Quality of Life Scale total score was greater with AOM 400 (5.97 [3.87; 8.08]) compared with PP (2.85 [0.56; 5.08]). Likewise, Clinical Global Impression-Severity improved more in the AOM 400 group (-0.59 [-0.71; -0.47]) compared with PP group (-0.37 [-0.46; -0.27]). Therefore, the analysis of data from stabilized patients with schizophrenia in the QUALIFY study indicated that AOM 400 is associated with lower health-care costs and greater effectiveness compared with PP and thus represents the economically dominant strategy.
