Correlating the Interfacial Polar-Phase Structure to the Local Chemistry in Ferroelectric Polymer Nanocomposites by Combined Scanning Probe Microscopy

PAFerroptosis Combined with Metabolic Disturbance of Mito by p52-ZER6 for Enhanced Cancer Immunotherapy induced by Nano-Bacilliform-Enzyme

The confused gene expressions and molecular mechanisms for mitochondrial dysfunction of traditional nanoenzymes is a challenge for tumor therapy. Herein, a nano-bacilliform-enzyme obtains the ability to inhibit p52-ZER6 signal pathway, regulate the genes related to mitochondrial metabolism, and possess the GOx/CAT/POD-like property. NBE acquires catalytic activity from the electronic energy transition. The tannin of NBE as a mitochondrial (Mito)-targeting guide overloads MitoROS, and then metabolic disorder and lipid peroxidation of Mito membrane occurs, thus leading to a novel death pathway called PAFerroptosis (pyroptosis, apoptosis, and Ferroptosis). Simultaneously, in order to refrain from mitophagy, hydroxychloroquine is mixed with NBE to form a combo with strength pyroptosis. As a result, NBE/combo improves the PAFerroptosis obviously by activation of CD8+T cells and inactivation of MDSC cells, up-regulating expression of caspase-3 signal pathway, intercepting DHODH pathway to arrive excellent antitumor effect (93%). Therefore, this study establishes a rational nanoenzyme for mitochondrial dysfunction without mitophagy for effective antitumor therapy.

Voltage-Mode Ferroelectric Synapse for Neuromorphic Computing

Ferroelectric materials with a modulable polarization extent hold promise for exploring voltage-driven neuromorphic hardware, in which direct current flow can be minimized. Utilizing a single active layer of an insulating ferroelectric polymer, we developed a voltage-mode ferroelectric synapse that can continuously and reversibly update its states. The device states are straightforwardly manifested in the form of variable output voltage, enabling large-scale direct cascading of multiple ferroelectric synapses to build a deep physical neural network. Such a neural network based on potential superposition rather than current flow is analogous to the biological counterpart driven by action potentials in the brain. A high accuracy of over 97% for the simulation of handwritten digit recognition is achieved using the voltage-mode neural network. The controlled ferroelectric polarization, revealed by piezoresponse force microscopy, turns out to be responsible for the synaptic weight updates in the ferroelectric synapses. The present work demonstrates an alternative strategy for the design and construction of emerging artificial neural networks.

Design and characterization of molecular, crystal and interfacial structures of PVDF-based dielectric nanocomposites for electric energy storage

PVDF-based polymers with polar covalent bonds are next-generation dielectric materials for electric energy storage applications. Several types of PVDF-based polymers, such as homopolymers, copolymers, terpolymers and tetrapolymers, were synthesized by radical addition reactions, controlled radical polymerizations, chemical modifications or reduction with the monomers of vinylidene fluoride (VDF), tetrafluoroethylene (TFE), trifluoroethylene (TrFE), hexafluoropropylene (HFP) and chlorotrifluoroethylene (CTFE). Owing to rich molecular structures and complicated crystal structures, PVDF-based dielectric polymers can show versatile dielectric polarization properties, including normal ferroelectrics, relaxor ferroelectrics, anti-ferroelectrics and linear dielectrics, which are beneficial for designing polymer films with high capacity and high charge-discharge efficiency for capacitor applications. Furthermore, to satisfy the requirements of practical high-capacity capacitors, the polymer nanocomposite method is another promising strategy to achieve high-capacitance dielectric materials by the addition of high-dielectric ceramic nanoparticles, moderate-dielectric nanoparticles (MgO, and Al₂O₃), high-insulation nanosheets (BN), etc. It is concluded with the current problems and future perspectives of interfacial engineering, such as core-shell strategies and hierarchical interfaces in polymer-based composite dielectrics for high-energy-density capacitor applications. In addition, an in-depth understanding of the roles of interfaces on the dielectric properties of nanocomposites can be achieved by indirect analysis techniques (theoretical simulation) and direct analysis techniques (scanning probe microscopy). Our systematic discussions on molecular, crystal and interfacial structures provide guidance for designing fluoropolymer-based nanocomposites for high-performance capacitor applications.

A Bilayer High-Temperature Dielectric Film with Superior Breakdown Strength and Energy Storage Density

The further electrification of various fields in production and daily life makes it a topic worthy of exploration to improve the performance of capacitors for a long time, including thin-film capacitors. The discharge energy density of thin-film capacitors that serves as one of the important types directly depends on electric field strength and the dielectric constant of the insulation material. However, it has long been a great challenge to improve the breakdown strength and dielectric constant simultaneously. Considering that boron nitride nanosheets (BNNS) possess superior insulation and thermal conductivity owing to wide band gap and 2-dimensional structure, a bilayer polymer film is prepared via coating BNNS by solution casting on surface of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) films. By revealing the bandgap and insulating behavior with UV absorption spectrum, leakage current, and finite element calculation, it is manifested that nanocoating contributes to enhance the bandgap of polymer films, thereby suppressing the charge injection by redirecting their transport from electrodes. Worthy to note that an ultrahigh breakdown field strength (~ 736 MV m-1), an excellent discharge energy density (~ 8.77 J cm-3) and a prominent charge-discharge efficiency (~ 96.51%) are achieved concurrently, which is ascribed to the contribution of BNNS ultrathin layer. In addition, the modified PET films also have superior comprehensive performance at high temperatures (~ 120 °C). The materials and methods here selected are easily accessible and facile, which are suitable for large-scale roll-to-roll process production, and are of certain significance to explore the methods about film modification suitable for commercial promotion.
