Abstract
An investigation of the chemical constituents of Salicornia herbacea has led to the isolation of one new natural product, pentadecyl ferulate (6), together with 11 known compounds, including phytol (1), stearolic acid (2), γ-linolenic acid (3), (3Z,6Z,9Z)-tricosa-3,6,9-triene (4), linoleic acid (5), stigmasterol (7), ergosterol (8), dioctyl phthalate (9), dibutyl phthalate (10), vanillic aldehyde (11), and scopoletin (12). The chemical structures of these materials were elucidated mainly by spectroscopic analysis. This work represents the first recorded example of the isolation of compounds 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, and 11 from S. herbacea. The antioxidant experiments revealed that compound 6 possessed strong hydroxy radical and superoxide anion scavenging activities and was the principle antioxidant ingredient in the ethyl acetate extract. The antiproliferative results exhibited that compound 1 selectively inhibited HepG2 cells, whereas compounds 3 and 6 showed potent antiproliferative activities against HepG2 and A549 cells.

Abstract
This review summarizes results of our recent solid-state NMR investigations on polyunsaturated 18:0-22:6n3-PC/PE/PS and 18:0-22:5n6-PC bilayers. Data on structure and dynamics of the polyunsaturated docosahexaenoyl (DHAn3, 22:6n3) and docosapentaenoyl chains (DPAn6, 22:5n6), investigated at physiological conditions, are reported. Lipid-protein interaction was studied on reconstituted bilayers containing the G-protein coupled membrane receptor (GPCR) rhodopsin as well as on rod outer segment (ROS) disk membranes prepared from bovine retinas. Results reveal surprisingly rapid conformational transitions of polyunsaturated chains and existence of weakly specific interactions of DHAn3 with spatially distinct sites on rhodopsin.

Abstract
During the past two decades, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) has played an ever-increasing role in the structural determination of fatty acids, fatty acid derivatives and analogues, and in the analysis of the structures of triacylglycerols including the quantitative analysis of lipid mixtures. This article discusses some of the results obtained through the application of the NMR technique to lipid molecules and reviews the literature. To maintain brevity, this article does not cover the underlying theory of NMR spectroscopy as numerous books devoted to modern NMR spectroscopy have been published.

Abstract
Fatty acid carbons are well-resolved in 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra of lipid extracts, but application of this methodology to the metabolism of 13C-labelled fatty acids has not yet been reported. In the present study, 13C NMR was used to monitor the presence of 98% [U-13C]eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) in liver and carcass lipids 24 h after it had been injected into the stomach of a rat. Natural abundance 13C NMR spectra of liver total fatty acid extracts were obtained from four control rats for comparison. At 24 h post-injection, quantitative high resolution 13C NMR showed 13C enrichment in liver fatty acid extracts was present mainly at olefinic and at the n-1 to n-4 carbons, but 13C signal intensities for C-1 to C-4 of [U-13C]EPA were markedly reduced or absent. Small 13C resonances, possibly indicative of some 13C incorporation into docosahexaenoic acid and saturated or monounsaturated fatty acids, were present in spectra of liver fatty acids. Liver and carcass fatty acid composition was similar in both the controls and the EPA-injected rat, suggesting little accumulation of the injected [U-13C]EPA after 24 h. We conclude that the carbon-specific data provided by 13C NMR of lipid extracts may be useful in monitoring the fate of individual carbons during tracer studies using 13C-labelled fatty acids.

Abstract
In this report, we show that the non-conjugated octadecatetraenoic acid found in the oil of the seeds from Ribes nigrum is identical to the C18-polyunsaturated fatty acid previously isolated in a number of fish oils and seed oils. Evidence obtained from mass spectral data of its triazolopyridine derivative clearly indicates the presence of methylene-interrupted double bonds. Comparison with authentic material prepared by chemical synthesis provides further confirmation of the (all-cis)-6,9,12,15-octadecatetraenoic acid structure. The (all-cis)-4,8,12,15-structural arrangement erroneously attributed to this acid in several literature reports is thus definitely ruled out.
