Preparation and characterization of a new rhenium(V) complex containing the methyl ester ligand

Coordination chemistry of phosphanyl amino acids: solid state and solution structures of neutral and cationic rhodium complexes

Copper phosphide or arsenide complexes, [Cu(EPh(2))(neo)] (E = P, As, neo = 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline; trivial name: neocuprine) react selectively with the N-protected brominated serine derivatives, 2-(S)-(alkoxycarbonylamino)-3-bromomethylpropionates ((ROCO)SerBr, : R = PhCH(2), : tBu, : Me) to give the corresponding phosphanylated or arsanylated amino acids, (ROCO)SerPhos (: Phos = PPh(2)) and (Z)SerArs (Ars = AsPh(2), Z = PhCH(2)OCO). The dipeptide (Z)AlaSerPhos was likewise prepared. The phosphanes , and the arsane reacted cleanly with [Rh(2)(micro-Cl)(2)(cod)(2)] to give the rhodium(I) complexes [RhCl(cod)((Z)SerPhos)] , [RhCl(cod)((Boc)SerPhos)] (Boc = tBuOCO), [RhCl(cod)((Z)AlaSerPhos)] , and [RhCl(cod)((Z)SerArs)] which were characterized by X-ray diffraction studies. A common structural feature is an intramolecular (N)H[dot dot dot]Cl(Rh)-hydrogen bridge which according to NMR investigations remains intact in solution. The abstraction of chloride from the coordination sphere of Rh(I) in or has a profound structural impact. While in and , the ligands bind in a monodentate fashion, via the phosphorus atom only, they serve as bidentate ligands via the phosphorus centre and the peptidic C=O group in [Rh(cod)(kappa(2)-(Z)SerPhos)]PF(6) and [Rh(cod)(kappa(2)-(Z)AlaSerPhos)]PF(6). This causes also the amino acid residue structures to change from alpha-helix type in and to a beta-sheet type in both. Addition of chloride to and fully re-establishes the structures of both. The complexes [RhCl(cod)((Z)SerPhos)] and [RhCl(cod)((Boc)SerPhos)] show good activities in homogeneously catalyzed hydrogenations of olefins while the dipeptide complex is less active. Phosphane addition to greatly diminishes the catalytic activity. The cationic complex [Rh(cod)(kappa(2)-(Z)AlaSerPhos)]PF(6) shows low activity which, however, is greatly increased by addition of one equivalent of phosphane.

Binding of the Oxo−Rhenium(V) Core to Methionine and to N-Terminal Histidine Dipeptides

The ReOX(2)(met) compounds (X = Cl, Br) adopt a distorted octahedral structure in which a carboxylato oxygen lies trans to the Re=O bond, whereas the equatorial plane is occupied by two cis halides, an NH(2), and an SCH(3) group. Coordination of the SCH(3) unit creates an asymmetric center, leading to two diastereoisomers. X-ray diffraction studies reveal that the crystals of ReOBr(2)(d,l-met).1/2H(2)O and ReOBr(2)(d,l-met).1/2CH(3)OH contain only the syn isomer (S-CH(3) bond on the side of the Re=O bond), whereas ReOCl(2)(d-met) and ReOCl(2)(d,l-met) consist of the pure anti isomer. (1)H NMR spectroscopy shows that both isomers coexist in equilibrium in acetone (anti/syn ratio = 1:1 for X = Br, 3:1 for X = Cl). Exchange between these two isomers is fast above room temperature, but it slows down below 0 degrees C, and the sharp second-order spectra of both isomers at -20 degrees C were fully assigned. The coupling constants are consistent with the solid-state conformations being retained in solution. Complexes of the type [ReOX(2)(His-aa)]X (X = Cl, Br) are isolated with the dipeptides His-aa (aa = Gly, Ala, Leu, and Phe). X-ray diffraction work on [ReOBr(2)(His-Ala)]Br reveals the presence of distorted octahedral cations containing the Re=O(3+) core and a dipeptide coordinated through the histidine residue via the imidazole nitrogen, the terminal amino group, and the amide oxygen, the site trans to the Re=O bond being occupied by the oxygen. The alanine residue is ended by a protonated carboxylic group that does not participate in the coordination. The constant pattern of the(1)H NMR signals for the protons in the histidine residue confirms that the various dipeptides adopt a similar binding mode, consistent with the solid-state structure being retained in CD(3)OD solution.

Use of heavy-metal clusters in the design of N-succinimidyl ester acylation reagents for side-chain-specific labeling of proteins

New heavy transition metal carbonyl markers for protein labeling, containing an "Mn(CO)11" (M = Ru, Os, n = 3; M = Ir, n = 4) moiety, were prepared by reaction of "lightly stabilized" clusters with an N-succinimidyl ester functionalized phosphine, namely N-succinimidyl 3-diphenylphosphine-propionate (DPPS). The reaction of Os3(CO)11(DPPS) with the model amino acid beta-alanine was performed and led to the expected amide. From the reaction of Mn(CO)11(DPPS) with bovine serum albumin (BSA) in mixed organic/aqueous medium, conjugates bearing a fairly high number of metal carbonyl fragments were obtained, thus demonstrating the usefulness of this class of reagents for the selective and covalent graft of heavy metal clusters to side chain of proteins.

Experiments on a new phosphine-peptide chelator for labelling of peptides with Tc-99m

A phosphine-containing ligand providing a N-[N-[3-(diphenylphosphino)propionyl]glycyl]-L-S-benzyl-cystein (PNNS) donor atomset for the chelation of 99mTc was studied in labelling experiments with a model peptide (tetragastrin, cholecystokinin-fragment). The peptide was conjugated to the ligand chelator by active ester chemistry either before or after radiolabelling. Both the chelator-conjugate and the preformed chelate approaches resulted in the same radiolabelled isomers of the ligand peptide. Sequence and reaction conditions influence yield and purity.

Recent applications of high-performance liquid chromatography to the analysis of metal complexes

Interest in metal complexes in modern inorganic chemistry has resulted in increasing demands for the analysis of these compounds. This paper reviews the most recent applications of high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) to the analysis of metal complexes. The review centres on the use of the technique in metal complex syntheses, reactions, characterizations and complexations and retention behaviour of these compounds, as reported in the literature since 1994.
