Abstract
Biting fibroma, an irritation fibroma or traumatic fibroma associated with a history of a prior lesion-related tooth bite or biting injury at the site, is a commonly acquired benign reactive lesion of the oral cavity. It is usually an asymptomatic, small, mucosa-colored, smooth, pedunculated or sessile papule. A biting fibroma is most commonly located on the buccal mucosa, followed by, in decreasing frequency, on the tongue or lip or hard palate or gingiva. It typically presents as a solitary lesion; however, it can appear as multiple lesions. Excision is the treatment of choice for a biting fibroma; however, the resolution of the lesion-associated chronic inflammation is also necessary to prevent a recurrence. The clinical history, lesion morphology, and pathology findings of an illustrative patient with a biting fibroma were included in this case report. An 80-year-old woman was described who developed a biting fibroma at the site of a tooth bite on her lower lip. An excisional biopsy not only confirmed the suspected diagnosis of a biting fibroma but also successfully treated her condition by removing the lesion; there was no recurrence. In conclusion, the diagnosis of a biting fibroma should be considered when a patient presents with a new intraoral lesion, particularly if associated with an acute injury or chronic inflammation of the site. Since the clinical differential diagnosis of a biting fibroma includes various other benign conditions and less common malignant neoplasms, a biopsy that removes the lesion may not only establish the diagnosis but also potentially provide adequate treatment.

Abstract
AIM Exposure to pesticides and consumption of high-fat diets are widespread in society. Reports have shown that exposure to glyphosate and a high-fat diet can cause gastrointestinal disorders and increase susceptibility to obesity. Thus, this study evaluated the impacts of perinatal exposure to glyphosate followed by consumption of a high-fat diet in adulthood on the histology and morphometry of jejunums and enteric nervous system of C57BL/6 mice. MATERIAL AND METHODS After mating, 20 C57BL/6 female mice were separated into a control group (CG) and a glyphosate group (GLY) that received water with 0.5% glyphosate. After the lactation period, some male offspring were randomly separated into CG-SD and GLY-SD (standard diet) groups or CG-HD and GLY-HD (high-fat diet) groups. After 12 weeks, jejunum samples were collected and submitted to histological analysis. KEY FINDINGS Indirect exposure to glyphosate changed the morphometry of the intestinal wall, increased the proportion of intraepithelial lymphocytes (IELs) and goblet cells, and altered the area occupied by collagen fibers. The hyperlipidemic diet hypertrophied the jejunal total wall, total muscular and submucosal layers, decreased IELs, and increased the proportion of goblet cells. GLY-HD mice had shallower crypts, shorter villi, and less goblet cells and IELs than mice from GLY-SD group. GLY-HD also showed an increased number of neurons in myenteric and submucosal plexuses. Groups exposed to glyphosate and/or fed a high-fat diet had atrophied submucosal neurons. SIGNIFICANCE This study suggests that perinatal glyphosate exposure combined with a high-fat diet in adulthood increases the risk of jejunum inflammation and dysfunction.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to analyze cellular localization and expression levels of oncologic relevant members of the S100 family in common oral lesions.Biopsies of various oral lesions were analyzed. S100A4 showed a higher expression rate in leukoplakias and oral squamous cell carcinomas. Transcript levels of S100A8 and S100A9 were significantly decreased in malignant OSCCs. A correlation could be drawn between the expression levels of these genes and the pathological characteristics of the investigated lesions. S100A4, A8, and A9 proteins represent promising marker genes to evaluate the risk potential of suspicious oral lesions in molecular pathology.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim was to investigate collagen fibers in giant cell fibroma, inflammatory fibrous hyperplasia, and oral normal mucosa. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixty-six cases were stained with picrosirius red. The slides were observed under polarization, followed by the measurement of the area and the percentage of the type I and type III collagens. The age and gender were obtained from the clinical records. RESULTS No differences could be observed in both the area and percentage of the type I and type III collagens within the categories of lesions and normal mucosa. In the giant cells fibroma, a greater area and percentage of type I collagen could be identified in individuals of less than 41.5 years (p<0.05). CONCLUSION The distribution of type I and type III collagen fibers in the studied lesions followed a similar pattern to that observed in the normal mucosa, indicating a normal collagen maturation process of type III to I. The study supports that multinucleated and stellate cells of the giant cell fibroma appear to be functional within collagen types III and I turnover. The greater amount of type I collagen identified in giant cell fibroma in individuals of less than 41.5 years reinforce the neoplastic nature of lesion.
