Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to investigate the clinical performance of zirconia-based fixed dental prostheses (FDPs) in comparison to metal-ceramic (MC) FDPs. METHODS A comprehensive search on MEDLINE (PubMed), Web of Science (Core Collection), Scopus up to June 2024 was conducted. Studies that compared the success, survival and complication rates between zirconia based FDPs and MC FDPs were eligible for inclusion. RESULTS Thirty-one articles were identified, of which 22 were included for systematic review and 7 RCTs were included for meta-analysis. 10, 9 and 3 studies were classified to mean follow-up ≤ 5 years, 5 years < mean Follow-up ≤ 10 years, mean Follow-up >10 years, respectively. In the pooled analysis, 180 bilaminar zirconia (ZC) FDPs and 206 MC FDPs were included. ZC FDPs were significantly associated with more failures (RR=3.64, p = 0.009) and more Ceramic Chipping (RR=2.92, p < 0.0001) when compared to MC FDPs. Higher risks of Framework Fracture (RR=4.57, p = 0.18), Loss of Retention (RR=4.79, p = 0.17), Secondary Caries (RR=1.25, p = 0.68), Endodontic complications (RR=1.30, p = 0.74) and Marginal Integrity (RR=1.07, p = 0.88) were also found in ZC FDPs when compared to those of MC FDPs, but with no statistical difference. CONCLUSION The current evidence continues to support the preference for traditional MC FDPs over ZC FDPs. Studies indicate that ZC FDPs have higher failure rates and more complications compared to MC FDPs, with ceramic chipping being a significant concern. There is lack of long term (>10 years follow-up) evidence of the clinical performance of ZC FDPs and monolithic zirconia FDPs. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE The study suggests that despite the growing popularity of zirconia, evidence shows MC FDPs may still be considered preferable to ZC FDPs.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Completely veneered zirconia ceramic (ZC) fixed partial dentures (FPDs) have been reported to have a higher incidence of ceramic chipping than the standard metal-ceramic FPDs. However, data from comparative long-term studies are sparse. PURPOSE The purpose of this retrospective study was to compare the long-term survival, chipping-free survival, and success of ceramic-veneered high noble metal alloy (HN), base metal alloy (cobalt-chromium alloy) (CC), and ZC FPDs and to isolate risk factors for the incidence of failure, veneer chipping, and overall complications. MATERIAL AND METHODS Data from 289 study participants (58.7% women; mean age, 57.97 ±11.51 years) provided with a total of 400 FPDs comprising 197 (49.3%) HN FPDs, 121 (30.3%) CC FPDs, and 82 (20.5%) ZC FPDs fabricated from presintered 3 mol% yttria-stabilized zirconia (mean time of service, 6.85 ±3.25 years) were evaluated. Of these, 278 (69.5%) FPDs were provided by dentists and 122 (30.5%) by dental students. Five- and 10-year survival, chipping-free survival, and success rates were calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method and compared with the log-rank test. Risk factors were assessed using Cox regression analysis. The study was exploratory, so all P values were considered exploratory and descriptive. RESULTS The 5- and 10-year survival rates were 94.7% and 77.8% for HN, 93.7% and 81.2% for CC, and 92.9% and 53.3% for ZC FPDs, respectively, indicating no clear difference in survival among the framework materials. The 5- and 10-year chipping-free rates were 94.1% and 82.8% for HN, 96.1% and 78.9% for CC, and 82.6% and 62.2% for ZC FPDs, respectively, indicating a difference between HN and ZC, and CC and ZC restorations. The 5- and 10-year success rates were 83.7% and 55.3% for HN, 86.5% and 51.4% for CC, and 68.9% and 30.2% for ZC FPDs, respectively, indicating a difference between HN and ZC, and CC and ZC restorations. The Cox regression model indicated framework material as an influencing risk factor for success, and this influence persisted when chipping was investigated. Compared with zirconia, the use of a metal alloy reduced the risk of chipping or the occurrence of complications by up to one-third. CONCLUSIONS All FPDs showed high 5-year survival rates and acceptable 10-year survival rates with no strong differences among the materials. Higher success and chipping-free rates were observed for both HN and CC restorations compared with ZC restorations. Metal frameworks had a lower risk for complications or veneer chipping than zirconia frameworks.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Tooth- and implant-supported fixed dental prostheses are well-documented and aesthetic treatment alternatives, and after a comprehensive periodontal treatment, a protocol with a good long-term prognosis if the maintenance program is strictly followed. AIM To reexamine a pre-existing patient cohort in order to obtain estimated long-term survival and complication outcomes of fixed dental prostheses. MATERIALS AND METHODS For this study, patients treated with fixed dental prostheses between 1978 and 2002 were reexamined between 2019 and 2020. The restorations were divided in single crowns and fixed dental prostheses supported by teeth (TSC, FPTDP) and implants (ISC, FPIDP). Survival and complication rates were obtained. Kaplan-Meier functions were used to model complication probabilities, and average hazard ratios of different strata were compared using weighted Cox regression. RESULTS The mean observation time of 40 patients and 223 reconstructions was 20.3 (±9.7, 1.2-36.2) years. The estimated survival rates were 84% (CI: 77%-92%) for TSC, 63% (CI: 51%-79%) for FPTDP, 87% (CI: 71%-100%) for ISC, and 64% (CI: 34%-100%) for FPIDP after 25 years. Biological complications included carious lesions (10.6%), periodontitis (7.9%), and peri-implantitis (6.8%). Technical complications included chipping (20.2%) and loss of retention (10.8%). CONCLUSION Biological complications lead to abutment loss in more than two-thirds of cases, regardless of the type of abutment (tooth or implant). Technical complications are less associated with abutment loss than biological complications.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM The lack of consensus regarding a standardized set of outcome measurements and noncompliance with current reporting guidelines in clinical trials of tooth-supported fixed dental prostheses (FDPs) hamper interstudy comparability, compromise scientific evidence, and waste research effort and resources in prosthetic dentistry. PURPOSE The primary objective of this systematic review was to identify all primary and secondary outcome measurements assessed in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of tooth-supported FDPs. Secondary objectives were to assess their methodological quality by using the Cochrane Collaboration's risk of bias tool (RoB, v2.0) and their reporting quality by means of a standardized 16-item CONSORT assessment tool through published reports. MATERIAL AND METHODS An electronic search was conducted in MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane library to identify all RCT-related articles published in the past 10 years. Differences in RoB were tested with the Pearson chi-squared test, and those in CONSORT score with the Student t test. RESULTS A total of 64 RCTs from 79 publications were deemed eligible. The diversity of outcome measures used in the field is apparent. Twenty percent of the included studies had a low RoB, 79% showed some concerns, and 1% had a high RoB. The mean ±standard deviation CONSORT compliance score was 22.56 ±3.17. Trials adhered to the CONSORT statement reported lower RoB than those that did not adhere (P<.001). RCTs with a low RoB reported more comprehensive adherence to CONSORT guidelines than those with some concerns (MD 4 [95% CI 1.52-6.48]; P=.004). CONCLUSIONS A standardized core outcome reporting set in clinical research on tooth-supported FDPs remains evident. Adherence to the CONSORT statement continues to be low, with some RoB concerns that can be improved.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the effect of different in vitro aging protocols on the optical properties and crystalline structure of high-translucency (HT) zirconia. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty-six specimens of HT and extra-high translucency (XT) zirconia were divided into three groups: control (CO)-no treatment; hydrothermal aging (HA)-autoclave aging for 12.5 h at 134°C, 2 bar; clinically related aging (CRA)-aging in the chewing simulator for 1.2 million cycles, followed by 50,000 thermocycles (5-55°C) and immersion in HCl (pH 1.2) for 15 h. Optical properties, crystalline structure, and surface roughness were analyzed and compared using analysis of variance (5% significance level). RESULTS There was no statistically significant effect of aging on translucency (p = 0.10), but CRA promoted the development of a high contrast ratio (p = 0.03). Aging did not cause significant color changes for HT (p = 0.65) or XT (p = 0.36). The proportion of monoclinic crystals increased to 40% for HT-zirconia after HA and 5% after CRA. No monoclinic crystals were detected for XT groups. There was no effect of aging on surface roughness (p = 0.77). CONCLUSIONS Although hydrothermal aging has been widely used to verify zirconia crystalline stability, it did not generate an effect similar to clinically related aging on the optical properties and crystalline structure of zirconia. HA affected the crystalline structure of HT-zirconia, and CRA compromised the optical properties of XT zirconia.

Abstract
PURPOSE This literature review was performed to assess whether implant failures are associated with titanium allergy. MATERIALS AND METHODS An electronic search of the MEDLINE/PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Scopus databases up to April 2021 was conducted, and the obtained articles were independently assessed by two reviewers. Articles describing cases of implant failure in which the cause of implant failure was only identified as allergy were included. RESULTS Twelve studies were included. Eight studies identified Ti allergy by clinical examinations, of which four used patch tests, three used the lymphocyte transformation test (LTT)/memory lymphocyte immunostimulation assay (MELISA), and one used both tests. Nine studies reported cases of titanium hypersensitivity in combination with other systemic allergy-related disorders, with eight cases also showing positive results for Ni, Hg, Cr, and Co hypersensitivity. Ten papers reported the improvement of symptoms after the removal of the Ti implants and their replacement with zirconia implants, and two of these papers showed good results. CONCLUSION Cases of probable titanium allergy included those with true titanium allergies and those with a potentially different cause. However, the differentiation of these cases is difficult. Since no definitive method has been established for diagnosing titanium allergy, a comprehensive diagnosis based on the clinical course and clinical examination using a patch test/LTT/MELISA is necessary. Implant treatment should be performed with caution in patients with any preoperative allergies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Additive manufacturing (three-dimensional (3D) printing) has become a leading manufacturing technique in dentistry due to its various advantages. However, its potential applications for dental ceramics are still being explored. Zirconia, among ceramics, has increasing popularity and applications in dentistry mostly due to its excellent properties. Although subtractive manufacturing (3D milling) is considered the most advanced technology for the fabrication of zirconia restorations, certain disadvantages are associated with it. METHODS A systematic review was piloted to compare the clinical performance of zirconium crowns that were fabricated using three-dimensional (3D) milling and 3D printing. A meta-analysis was performed, and studies published up to November 2022 were identified. The terms searched were "Zirconium crowns", "3D printing", "CAD/CAM" (Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing), "Milling", "dental crowns", and "3D milling". The characteristics that were compared were the year in which the study was published, study design, age of the patient, country, the number of crowns, the type of crown fabrication, marginal integrity, caries status, and outcomes. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were used to structure this systematic review. Out of eleven hundred and fifty titles identified after a primary search, nine articles were included in the quantitative analysis. The research question based on PICO/PECO (Participant, Intervention/exposure, Comparison, and Outcome) was "Do 3D-printed and milled (P) zirconia crowns and FDPs (I) have a better survival rate (O) when conventional prosthesis is also an option (C)"? The data collected were tabulated and compared, and the risk of bias and meta-analysis were later performed. Only nine articles (clinical research) were selected for the study. Since there were no clinical studies on the 3D printing of zirconium crowns, six in vitro studies were considered for the comparison. Zirconium crowns in the milling group had an average minimum follow-up of 6 months. RESULTS A moderate risk of bias was found, and survival was significant. A high heterogeneity level was noted among the studies. Marginal integrity, periodontal status, and survival rate were high. Linear regression depicted no statistical correlation between the type of cement used and the survival rate. CONCLUSIONS It can be concluded that the milled crowns had a higher performance and satisfactory clinical survival.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate stability and wear of tooth-supported zirconia single crowns with micro-layering in-vitro. MATERIALS AND METHODS Molar crowns and specimens were fabricated from 5Y-TZP zirconia (Gen-X, Amann-Girrbach). Three groups were investigated: ML I: 0.1 mm cutback/painted/glazed (MiYO, Jensen); ML II: occlusal 0.3 mm cutback/painted/veneered/glazed (MiYO), and a monolithic control group (polished). After thermal cycling and mechanical loading (TCML), crowns were loaded to failure in a universal testing machine. Two-body wear test was performed. Wear (mean, maximum, antagonist) and roughness (Ra, Rz) were determined with a 3D laser-scanning-microscope. RESULTS All crowns survived TCML. In the control (2501.5 N) and ML II group (1775.3 N) significantly lower fracture forces were observed than in ML I (3636.4 N) (p ≤ 0.003). Significant wear differences were found (p ≤ 0.001) but not for antagonist wear (p ≥ 0.202). Lowest wear was observed in the control group 10.2±1.5 µm/28.8±6.4 µm, ML I 112.8±37.3 µm/152.9±42.8 µm, and ML II 192.4±49.1 µm/340.7±54.2 µm. Roughness was characterized by a Ra from 1.6 µm (control) to 3.0 µm (ML II), and a Rz from 11.8 µm (Control) to 24.0 µm (ML II). Roughness significantly differed between control group and ML I (p = 0.002) as well as ML I and ML II (p = 0.020). CONCLUSIONS Good in-vitro performance and fracture stability without chipping or fracture were found for all systems. Wear and roughness were comparable to conventional ceramic veneering systems. CLINICAL RELEVANCE The micro-layering of zirconia restorations can be recommended, yet the micro-layering could be worn during clinical application.

Abstract
Introduction Porcelain fracture is a common problem of metal-ceramic restorations (MCRs). One suggested strategy to prevent it is to modify the metal framework design; however, the available information regarding the effect of framework design on porcelain fracture is scarce. Objective This study aimed to assess the effect of computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) framework design fabricated from sintered cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr) alloy on fracture resistance of MCRs. Materials and Methods Twenty premolar metal dies were fabricated for this in vitro study. Ten standard frameworks were designed with 0.5 mm thickness, and 10 customized frameworks were designed with 1 mm thickness at the lingual margin and 0.5 mm thickness in all other areas. All specimens were fabricated from sintered Co-Cr alloy (Ceramill Sintron) using soft metal milling technology. After porcelain application, the specimens underwent thermocycling and cyclic loading for 3,000 cycles between 5 and 55°C. The fracture resistance was measured by a universal testing machine. The failure mode was also determined. Data were statistically analyzed by independent t-test (α = 0.05). Results The mean fracture resistance of porcelain was 2,379 ± 531 N in the standard and 2,557 ± 448 N in the customized group. No significant difference was found in fracture resistance of the two groups (P > 0.05). All specimens in both groups showed mixed failure. Conclusion The fracture resistance of porcelain and the failure mode were not affected by the framework design of MCRs fabricated from sintered Co-Cr alloy (Ceramill Sintron).

Abstract
The conventional metal-ceramic is still considered the gold standard in fixed prosthetics especially in terms of longevity. Among alternative materials used, Monolithic Zirconia has shown the capability to reconcile excellent biomechanical properties with acceptable aesthetic performance and to overcome several inconveniences related to veneer restorations. This study aims to clinically evaluate Monolithic Zirconia prosthetic crowns on natural abutments in the posterior sectors, performed by final-year dental medicine students (undoubtedly with less experience in the management of such material) by the standardized California Dental Association score system evaluation, to better understand the viability of Monolithic Zirconia. This prospective study was carried out at the Dental School of the University of Bari "Aldo Moro", Italy. Prosthetic rehabilitation included single crowns or a short pontic prosthesis with maximum one intermediate. Final-year dental students performed tooth reduction under the supervision of three expert tutors. The California Dental Association systematics (based on color, surface, anatomical shape, and marginal integrity) were adopted to evaluate the prosthetic maintenance status over time. Annual follow-up visits were re-evaluated by the same parameters each year. Univariate logistic regression analysis was performed to evaluate outcomes and the Kaplan-Meier plot to report survival. The sample consists of 40 crowns performed on 31 patients, 15 males (48.4%) and 16 females (51.6%) with an average age of 59.3 years. The clinical cases subjected to experimental study were found to be "Excellent" (1a/2a/3a/4a) in 34 cases (85%), "Acceptable" in 4 cases (10%), and "To be re-done" in 2 cases (failures) (5%). Our conclusive data support the predictability of Monolithic Zirconia restorations on natural posterior abutments at a long-term follow-up of five years, even when performed by less-experienced clinicians.

Abstract
Background/purpose Zirconia has recently become a popular material for fixed restorations. The purpose of this study was to use a digital workflow to fabricate monolithic zirconia fixed dental prostheses (FDPs) and assess the connection between variable connector sizes compared to their clinical performance. Materials and methods Clinicians evaluated monolithic zirconia FDPs in 58 patients. After definitive impressions were made, stone casts were obtained. The stone casts were scanned to a standard triangle language (STL) file. A digital wax up was fabricated, and corresponding provisional restorations were milled. Final FDPs were fabricated from a high-translucent zirconia material. During digital fabrication, the connector area of each FDP was recorded while meticulous attention was paid to ensure that the connector cross-sectional area was ≥9 mm2 for the 3-unit restorations (pontic to retainer) and ≥12 mm2 for the 4-unit restorations (pontic to pontic). Biological an technical outcomes of the FDPs were performed at 1 week, 6 months and then annually for 6 consecutive years. Results A total of 23 men and 35 women received a total of 63 full-contour zirconia FDPs in the posterior regions and were observed for a time period ranging between 50 and 70 months. No decementation occurred and no caries were detected during the observation period, however signs of gingivitis were detected in 4 patients. The dimension of the connector areas was 12 mm2 in the two broken 4-unit FDPs. Conclusion The results of this study suggest that the use of digital scanning and milling to fabricate monolithic zirconia FDPs of posterior regions may be an acceptable alternative restorative approach to traditional metal-ceramic restorations.

Abstract
PURPOSE Zirconium dioxide ceramic has been successfully introduced as a framework material for fixed dental prostheses. To reduce manufacturing constraints, joining of sub-components could be a promising approach to increase the mechanical performance of long-span fixed dental prostheses. In this experimental study, the biomechanical behavior of monolithic and soldered framework specimens for fixed dental prostheses made of Y-TZP was investigated. MATERIALS AND METHODS Framework specimens (n = 80) of 5-unit fixed dental prostheses made of Y-TZP were prepared and divided into 10 equal groups. The specimens were monolithic or composed of sub-components, which were joined using a silicate-based glass solder. Thereby, three joint geometries (diagonal, vertical with an occlusal cap, and dental attachment-based) were investigated. Moreover, the groups differed based on the mechanical test (static vs. dynamic) and further processing (veneered vs. unveneered). The framework specimens were cemented on alumina-based jaw models, where the canine and second molar were acting as abutments, before a point-load was applied. In addition, μCT scans and microscopic fractography was used to evaluate the quality of soldered joints and to determine the causes of fracture. RESULTS The determined fracture loads of the different unveneered framework specimens in static testing did not vary significantly (p = 1). Adding a veneering layer significantly increased the mechanical strength for monolithic framework specimens from 1,196.29 ±203.79 N to 1,606.85 ±128.49 N (p = 0.008). In case of soldered specimens with a dental attachment-based geometry the mechanical strength increased from 1,159.42 ±85.65 N to 1,249.53 ±191.55 N (p = 1). Within the dynamic testing, no differences were observed between monolithic and soldered framework specimens. μCT scans and fractography proved that the dental attachment-based joining geometry offers the highest quality. CONCLUSION Using glass soldering technology, sub-components of 5-unit framework specimens made of Y-TZP could be joined with mechanical properties comparable to those of monolithic frameworks. Abstract
Objective To assess the marginal and bacterial microleakage in zirconia and CAD‐CAM or cast Co‐Cr implant abutments. Methods Sixty‐four conical connection implants with their respective abutments were divided into four groups (Co‐Cr (milled, laser‐sintered, and cast) and Zirconia (milled)). All specimens were subjected to a chewing simulation and thermocycling. After aging process, specimens were submerged in a 0.2% methylene blue solution with Porphyromonas gingivalis (P.g) for 48 h. The marginal microleakage was measured using a 40× optical microscopy at the internal part of the implant, and when positive microleakage was observed, a DNA isolation with a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test was used. The microbiological assessment was based on colony forming units (CFUs). Results Thirty (47%) implant‐abutments presented microleakage and the PCR was performed on those specimens (1 Zirconia, 1 Co‐Cr milled, 14 Co‐Cr laser‐sintered and 14 cast). Seven specimens (1 Co‐Cr laser‐sintered and six cast) presented values below the PCR detection limit (< 100 CFUs). The lowest CFUs count occurred in the Co‐Cr milled group (5.17E+02 CFUs/ml) followed by zirconia (7.70E+03 CFUs/ml). The Co‐Cr cast (9.39E+03 CFUs/ml) and laser‐sintered (2.4E+05 CFUs/ml) groups had higher bacterial count. The CFU count comparison performed between Co‐Cr cast and laser‐sintered resulted in a statistically significant differences in favor of Co‐CrCL (p < .05). Conclusions The abutment material and fabrication technique affected the implant‐abutment microleakage. Although the CAD‐CAM abutments presented favorable results, all tested groups presented microleakage.

Abstract
Objectives: Zirconia (Y-TZP) ceramics are considered as posterior fixed partial denture (FPD) materials; however, their applications are limited due to chipping. The use of monolithic lithium disilicate (LiDi) glass ceramics in posterior FPDs can be advantageous. This in vitro study aims to compare the loads until failure of posterior Y-TZP-FPDs and LiDi-FPDs before and after aging.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this systematic review was to evaluate the survival rate, biological complications, technical complications, and clinical behavior of single crowns supported by teeth made up in monolithic zirconia with CAD/CAM technology. STUDY SELECTION An extensive electronic search was conducted through Medline/PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases. Additional manual search was performed on the references of included articles to identify relevant publications. Two reviewers independently performed the selection and electronic and manual search. RESULTS From nine articles included, there was a total of 594 participants and 1657 single-tooth restorations with a mean exposure time of 1.07 years, and follow-up period between 0.3 and 2.1 years. All studies showed a moderate level of quality, with a consequent moderate possibility of associated bias, using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS), with survival rate (SR) ranging between 91% to 100%. Bleeding on probing (BOP) were reported with an average value of 29.12%. Marginal integrity showed high success rate values for the observation periods, except for one that included patients with bruxism which obtained a SR of 31.60%. Failures and/or fractures, mostly total and requiring replacement, were observed in three studies. Linear regression showed that there was no statistical correlation between survival rate and type of cementation and the average years of follow-up (p=0.730 e p=0.454). There was high heterogeneity between studies (I2 = 93.74% and Q = 79.672). CONCLUSIONS Within the limitation of this study, monolithic zirconia might be considered as a possible option for restoring single crowns, especially in the posterior zone.

Abstract
PURPOSE Fabrication inaccuracies can compromise the fit of large-span monolithic zirconia restorations. Sintering distortion is a particular problem. This study aimed to assess the fit of full-arch restorations made from mono lithic zirconia for different abutment configurations. METHODS To quantify fit inaccuracies created during the fabrication of experimental large-span restorations, an in-vitro model with eight abutment teeth was equipped with strain gauges. Ten 14-unit restorations were made from monolithic zirconia and seated on the model in turn. For each of the ten restorations, measurements were taken for three different abutment configurations-polygonal, quadrangular, and unilaterally shortened. Strains exerted during seating were recorded in the anterior-posterior and buccal-palatal directions, and the resulting horizontal forces (rhF) were calculated along with the respective abutment deflection (ad). Data were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis tests at a significance level of 0.05. RESULTS All restorations could be seated on the multi-abutment model. The restorations exhibited fabrication misfits, tending to be too wide. Mean rhF/ad were largest for the quadrangular configuration (16.8±2.9 N/0.065 mm) and smallest for the polygonal configuration (13.6±4.5 N/0.053 mm). The largest rhF/ad were measured on abutments of the unilaterally shortened configuration, with a maximum deflection of 0.126 mm. For two of three configurations, rhF/ad were significantly larger for the distal abutments than for the other abutments. CONCLUSIONS Even if milling and sintering procedures are optimum, misfit-induced horizontal forces cannot be avoided. Because of the natural tooth mobility, however, the fit of full-arch restorations made from monolithic zirconia might be clinically acceptable.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To present an overview on systematic reviews on prosthodontic zirconia restorations and to discuss long-term complications as well as information on anatomical and functional changes to the masticatory system. DATA/SOURCES MEDLINE, EMBASE, Trip medical, and Cochrane Library databases were searched for systematic reviews up to February 2021. Bias was assessed and clinical survival and complications were analyzed. STUDY SELECTION 38 eligible articles published between 2006 and 2021 were included. The reviews were based on 128 in vivo studies on approximately 10,000 zirconia restorations. 5-year cumulative survival rates varied between 91.2% and 95.9% for tooth-supported (TS) single crowns (SC), 89.4% and 100% for TS multi-unit fixed dental prostheses (FDP), 97.1% and 97.6% for implant-supported (IS) SCs and 93.0% and 100% for IS FDPs. Chipping was the most often technical complication, followed by framework fracture, loss of retention, marginal discrepancies/discoloration, occlusal roughness and abutment/screw loosening. Color mismatch was the only esthetic complication. Biological complications were caries, endodontic complications, tooth fracture, periodontal disease, abrasion/attrition, persisting pain, high sensitivity, peri‑implantitis and soft tissue issues. Patients with bruxism were only examined sporadically. CONCLUSIONS 5-year results for zirconia restorations were satisfactory. The predominant technical problem of veneering fractures could be overcome with adapted design or fabrication and application of monolithic restorations, but reviews of clinical studies on this subject are rare. The impact of zirconia restorations on the masticatory system remains unclear. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Zirconia restorations are experiencing a rapidly increasing use in dental practice. Being highly wear-resistant, hard and durable, it can be assumed that they do not follow natural abrasion and changes in the masticatory system. Possible long-term effects on the stomatognathic system as a whole should therefore be considered.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Different material options are available for fixed dental prostheses (FDPs), but valid data on the favored materials of German dentists for 3-unit FDPs are lacking. It is unclear whether preferences depend on the individual characteristics of the dentists or their dental practices. PURPOSE The purpose of this survey was to identify the preferred material selection of German dentists for the fabrication of tooth-supported 3-unit FDPs depending on the location of the abutment teeth and the individual characteristics of the dentist or the dental practice. MATERIAL AND METHODS A survey was developed that included questions on the demographic characteristics (sex, area of expertise, age group, time since graduation, number of inhabitants, and the postal code of the dental practice or dental school) of the participating dentist and their preferred materials for the fabrication of tooth-supported 3-unit FDPs. Three clinical scenarios (anterior maxillary FDP, posterior maxillary FDP, posterior mandibular FDP) were presented. The dentists were allowed to select from predefined options or to give a free answer. For comparisons of characteristic associations, the number of inhabitants was chosen to represent the characteristics of the dental practice, and sex and time since graduation were selected to represent the characteristics of the dentist. Group comparisons were conducted with Chi-square tests (α=.05). RESULTS A response of 721 dentists from all parts of Germany was received, and data from 688 dentists were included in the analyses. Ceramic was the most preferred material for the fabrication of 3-unit FDPs independent of the location of the abutment teeth with veneered zirconia as the favored option. Metal-ceramic was ranked second. The time since graduation ≤15 years was associated with a preference of ceramic over metal-ceramic for the anterior restoration (P<.001). CONCLUSIONS Most participating dentists selected appropriate restorative materials depending on the individual clinical setting presented in the survey. For the anterior 3-unit FDP, time since graduation was associated with the preference for a restorative material. Some dentists selected lithium-X-silicate ceramics for situations beyond their recommended indication range.

Abstract
Background An occurrence of secondary caries around the indirect restoration margin is reported to remain a leading cause of failures. Objective This study aimed to test the interfacial microleakage of conventional glass-ionomer (CGI), resin-modified glass ionomer (RMGI) and Nano-hybrid composite (CR) restorations at a full veneer margin crown. Methods Ninety human extracted molar teeth were divided into three groups (n = 30). Each group was subdivided into three subgroups (n = 10) according to the extent of the structural defects; The structural defect in G1 had a depth of 1.5 mm, width and length at 2 mm and 1 mm intrusion within the crown cervical margin. The corresponding structural defect dimension values for G2 were 2, 5, 4 and 2 mm with defects extending onto the root structure. Meanwhile, G3: structural deficiency of 2 mm depth, 3 mm width and 3 mm length and with 1.5 mm extension into the prepared teeth. These structural defects in each subgroup were restored with CGI, RMGI and CR. Artificial carious lesion formation was induced at the cervical finish line with a demineralizing solution. The artificial carious lesions were restored as per the group distribution. Subsequently, teeth samples were prepared and cemented with Nickel-chromium full coverage restorations utilizing glass-ionomer luting cement. Teeth samples were thermocycled, isolated with nail varnish, and immersed in 0.1% methylene blue for 24 h. The teeth samples were sectioned longitudinally, dye penetration was evaluated with a stereomicroscope. The data were analyzed with Kruskal–Wallis and Mann–Whitney U tests. Results CGI-G1 recorded the highest micro-leakage score at 1.450; while CR-G3 recorded the least score (0.350). At a cementum-restoration interface, CR-G1 (0.850) documented the lowest micro-leakage; RMGI-G3 had a greater value at 1.700. Conclusions The hybrid CR could be effectively used to restore the restoration of a marginal gap around crown margins.

Abstract
Fracture or chipping of veneering ceramic is one of the most frequent clinical failures in dentistry in fixed dental and implant-borne prostheses. Due to the friable nature of the ceramic material, chippings may result in an aesthetic and functional problem for the patient requiring a rapid solution. Direct repairs have been indicated for the restoration of function, aesthetics and comfort, especially in cases where the fractured prosthesis presents good adaptation and satisfactory aesthetics. This case report aims to present and discuss the techniques of the direct reveneering method, their advantages and disadvantages, as well as the importance of adhesive procedures in the success of these restorative approaches. Success in repairing the fractured area, regardless of the technique used, is fundamental to establish a strong and stable adhesion between the repaired and the fractured areas, since the longevity of the repair will depend on the quality of the interface generated.

Abstract
This article aimed to assess the marginal fit of methacrylate-oligomer-phosphine-oxide curable-resin provisional-fixed dental prostheses made by digital-light-processing (DLP) three-dimensional (3D) printing. A stainless-steel master model with two abutments was scanned, and five three-unit provisional bridges were designed and printed in VITA shade A3.5 curable resin in 50 μm-thick layers. The marginal fit of each abutment was measured at six points using a profile projector. A descriptive data analysis of the fit measurements was performed by descriptive and explorative processes with the SPSS software. The curable-resin provisional restorations made by DLP 3D printing reached values of 46.37 μm (SD: 29.58 μm), which were considered clinically acceptable, with values similar to polyethylene-methacrylate and polyether-ether-ketone provisional restorations.
