Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Hypertension significantly contributes to stroke. Previous research has indicated a connection between daytime napping and stroke. Research on the connection between daytime napping duration and first stroke in hypertensive individuals is lacking nevertheless. METHODS This research, which ran from 24 August 2013 to 31 December 2022, recruited 11,252 individuals with hypertension and without a history of stroke from the China Stroke Primary Prevention Trial. To determine the relationship between daytime napping duration and stroke onset in hypertensive individuals, we conducted analyses for threshold effects, multivariate-adjusted Cox proportional hazard regression models, and Kaplan-Meier survival curves. RESULTS The duration of daytime napping (<75 min) was positively correlated with stroke risk; beyond 75 min, the risk did not increase further. When compared to hypertensive individuals who napped for 1-30 min, daytime napping 31-60 min (hazard ratio [HR] = 1.27, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.06-1.53) and >60 min (HR = 1.37, 95% CI = 1.14-1.65) were substantially related with a greater risk of first stroke. Additionally, this correlation was absent in cases of hemorrhagic stroke, but present in cases of ischemic stroke, specifically for hypertensive individuals who napped for 31-60 min or >60 min (p < 0.05). Kaplan-Meier survival curves displayed that hypertensive individuals who extended daytime napping had an elevated incidence of stroke. CONCLUSIONS Hypertensive individuals who take longer daytime naps (>30 min) are at an elevated risk of stroke onset, particularly ischemic stroke, irrespective of other factors.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the relationship among nap time, night sleep time, and depression among the elderly and to determine the recommended sleep time to provide a scientific and reasonable basis for the prevention and control of depression in residents. METHODS Based on the 2020 China Health and Elderly Care Longitudinal Survey (CHARLS) database, the demographic data and the health and lifestyle information of the study subjects were obtained. A total of 2,959 valid samples were included, and the relationship between sleep and depression was explored by logistic regression, restricted cubic spline, and isotemporal substitution model. RESULTS In the cross-sectional analysis, no statistical relationship was observed between napping time and depression in the elderly. The optimal sleep interval for the elderly at night is 6-7.5 hours, and the health benefits are the largest. A sleep duration of < 6 hours at night (OR = 2.25, 95% CI: 1.90 to 2.65) was associated with a high likelihood of depression. The probability of depression in the elderly continues to decrease with the increase of time after the nighttime sleep duration reaches 6 hours and is at the lowest level of about 7.5 hours. Moreover, the probability of depression will increase after the sleep duration exceeds 9.5 hours. In the range of 6-7.5 hours of recommended sleep duration, the likelihood of depression in the elderly will be reduced by 0.311 for every 30-minute increase in nighttime sleep time instead of noon sleep time. CONCLUSION The duration of nighttime sleep and the probability of depression have a U-shaped relationship. The likelihood of depression was lowest in the elderly who slept for 6-8 hours at night, and the likelihood of depression could be reduced by increasing the nighttime sleep time instead of napping time within the optimal nighttime sleep range.

Abstract
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between the duration of sleep per day and cardiovascular metabolic multimorbidity (CMM) in older adults and to identify how many hours of sleep per day can lead to a lower risk of CMM in older adults. BACKGROUND CMM are a common syndrome in the older adults. There may be an association between sleep duration and CMM in older adults, with both insomnia and sleep deprivation having an impact on the health of older adults. Therefore, it is important to explore the possibility that older adults who sleep for a few hours per day may have a lower prevalence of CMM. METHODS The study included 9710 older adults. The sleep duration in this study was assessed by the question "How many hours of sleep do you currently get in a day? ". Older adults were defined as having CMM when they had two or more of the five categories of hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, stroke or cardiovascular disease, dyslipidemia. We used multivariate logistic regression analysis to explore the association among sleep duration and CMM. Restrictive cubic splines were used to examine the shape of the association among sleep duration and the CMM. The STROBE checklist was used for this cross-sectional study. RESULTS The mean age was 84.78 ± 11.73 years, with 55.5 % being female. Of the total sample, 21.3 % were CMM. When all covariates were adjusted, there was dose-response relationship between sleep duration and CMM. The dose-response relationship between CMM and sleep duration showed that older adults had a lower risk of cardiovascular and metabolic multimorbidity when they slept 9 h and 10 h per day. CONCLUSION With the increasing population of older adults, the number of older adults suffering from CMM continues to rise, and adequate sleep time can effectively prevent the occurrence of CMM. We should pay attention to the sleep problem of the older adults. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE This study provided information for healthcare providers to identify circumstances that increase cardiovascular metabolic multimorbidity and suggest the appropriate sleep duration per day to reduce the risk of disease in older adults. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION Because of the public database data used in this study, all data were collected by survey agency personnel, so this section is not applicable to this study.

Abstract
Objective The complicated association of daytime napping, biological aging and cognitive function remains inconclusive. We aimed to evaluate the cross-sectional and longitudinal associations of daytime napping and two aging measures with cognition and to examine whether napping affects cognition through a more advanced state of aging. Methods Data was collected from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study. Napping was self-reported. We calculated two published biological aging measures: Klemera and Doubal biological age (KDM-BA) and physiological dysregulation (PD), which derived information from clinical biomarkers. Cognitive z-scores were calculated at each wave. Linear mixed models were used to explore the longitudinal association between napping, two aging measures, and cognitive decline. Mediation analyses were performed to assess the mediating effects of biological age acceleration on the association between napping and cognition. Results Participants aged over 45 years were included in the analyses. Non-nappers had greater KDM-BA and PD [LS means (LSM) = 0.255, p = 0.007; LSM = 0.085, p = 0.011] and faster cognitive decline (LSM = -0.061, p = 0.005)compared to moderate nappers (30-90 min/nap). KDM-BA (β = -0.007, p = 0.018) and PD (β = -0.034, p < 0.001) showed a negative association with overall cognitive z scores. KDM-BA and PD partially mediated the effect of napping on cognition. Conclusion In middle-aged and older Chinese, compared to moderate nappers, non-nappers seem to experience a more advanced state of aging and increased rates of cognitive decline. The aging status possibly mediates the association between napping and cognition. Moderate napping shows promise in promoting healthy aging and reducing the burden of cognitive decline in Chinese middle-aged and older adults.

Abstract
Introduction Although the link between sleep and memory function is well established, associations between sleep macrostructure and memory function in normal cognition and Mild Cognitive Impairment remain unclear. We aimed to investigate the longitudinal associations of baseline objectively assessed sleep quality and duration, as well as time in bed, with verbal memory capacity over a 7-9 year period. Participants are a well-characterized subsample of 148 persons (mean age at baseline: 72.8 ± 6.7 years) from the Cretan Aging Cohort. Based on comprehensive neuropsychiatric and neuropsychological evaluation at baseline, participants were diagnosed with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI; n = 79) or found to be cognitively unimpaired (CNI; n = 69). Sleep quality/quantity was estimated from a 3-day consecutive actigraphy recording, whereas verbal memory capacity was examined using the Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test (RAVLT) and the Greek Passage Memory Test at baseline and follow-up. Panel models were applied to the data using AMOS including several sociodemographic and clinical covariates. Results Sleep efficiency at baseline directly predicted subsequent memory performance in the total group (immediate passage recall: β = 0.266, p = 0.001; immediate word list recall: β = 0.172, p = 0.01; delayed passage retrieval: β = 0.214, p = 0.002) with the effects in Passage Memory reaching significance in both clinical groups. Wake after sleep onset time directly predicted follow-up immediate passage recall in the total sample (β = -0.211, p = 0.001) and in the MCI group (β = -0.235, p = 0.02). In the total sample, longer 24-h sleep duration was associated with reduced memory performance indirectly through increased sleep duration at follow-up (immediate passage recall: β = -0.045, p = 0.01; passage retention index: β = -0.051, p = 0.01; RAVLT-delayed recall: β = -0.048, p = 0.009; RAVLT-retention index:β = -0.066, p = 0.004). Similar indirect effects were found for baseline 24-h time in bed. Indirect effects of sleep duration/time in bed were found predominantly in the MCI group. Discussion Findings corroborate and expand previous work suggesting that poor sleep quality and long sleep duration predict worse memory function in elderly. Timely interventions to improve sleep could help prevent or delay age-related memory decline among non-demented elderly.
