Abstract
(1) Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the biological behavior of bone tissue on a machined surface (MS) and modifications made by a laser beam (LS) and by a laser beam incorporated with hydroxyapatite (HA) using a biomimetic method without thermic treatment (LHS). (2) Methods: Scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry (SEM/EDX) was performed before and after installation in the rabbit tibiae. A total of 20 Albinus rabbits randomly received 30 implants of 3.75 × 10 mm in the right and left tibias, with two implants on each surface in each tibia. In the animals belonging to the 4-week euthanasia period group, intramuscular application of the fluorochromes calcein and alizarin was performed. In implants placed mesially in the tibiofemoral joint, biomechanical analysis was performed by means of a removal torque (N/cm). The tibias with the implants located distally to the joint were submitted for analysis by confocal laser microscopy (mineral apposition rate) and for histometric analysis by bone contact implant (%BIC) and newly formed bone area (%NBA). (3) Results: The SEM showed differences between the surfaces. The biomechanical analysis revealed significant differences in removal torque values between the MSs and LHSs over a 2-week period. Over a 4-week period, both the LSs and LHSs demonstrated removal torque values statistically higher than the MSs. BIC of the LHS implants were statistically superior to MS at the 2-week period and LHS and LS surfaces were statistically superior to MS at the 4-week period. Statistical analysis of the NBA of the implants showed difference between the LHS and MS in the period of 2 weeks. (4) Conclusions: The modifications of the LSs and LHSs provided important physicochemical modifications that favored the deposition of bone tissue on the surface of the implants.

Abstract
This study investigated the impact of adding hydroxyapatite nanoparticles to implant surfaces treated with zirconia blasting and acid etching (ZiHa), focusing on structural changes and bone healing parameters in low-density bone sites. The topographical characterization of titanium discs with a ZiHa surface and a commercially modified zirconia-blasted and acid-etched surface (Zi) was performed using scanning electron microscopy, profilometry, and surface-free energy. For the in vivo assessment, 22 female rats were ovariectomized and kept for 90 days, after which one implant from each group was randomly placed in each tibial metaphysis of the animals. Histological and immunohistochemical analyses were performed at 14 and 28 days postoperatively (decalcified lab processing), reverse torque testing was performed at 28 days, and histometry from calcified lab processing was performed at 60 days The group ZiHa promoted changes in surface morphology, forming evenly distributed pores. For bone healing, ZiHa showed a greater reverse torque, newly formed bone area, and bone/implant contact values compared to group Zi (p < 0.05; t-test). Qualitative histological and immunohistochemical analyses showed higher features of bone maturation for ZiHa on days 14 and 28. This preclinical study demonstrated that adding hydroxyapatite to zirconia-blasted and acid-etched surfaces enhanced peri-implant bone healing in ovariectomized rats. These findings support the potential for improving osseointegration of dental implants, especially in patients with compromised bone metabolism.

Abstract
This study evaluated the bone incorporation process of a screw-shaped internal fixation device made of poly (L-lactide-co-D, L-lactide) (PLDLLA). Thirty-two male Wistar rats received 32 fixation devices (2 mm × 6 mm) randomly assigned to either the right or left tibia and one implant in each animal. After 7, 14, 28, and 42 days, the rats were euthanized and the specimens were subjected to microtomographic computed tomography (microCT) and histomorphometric analyses to evaluate bone interface contact (BIC%) and new bone formation (NBF%) in cortical and cancellous bone areas. The animals euthanized on days 28 and 42 were treated with calcein and alizarin red, and confocal LASER microscopy was performed to determine the mineral apposition rate (MAR). Micro-CT revealed a higher percentage of bone volume (p < 0.006), trabecular separation (p < 0.001), and BIC in the cortical (p < 0.001) and cancellous (p = 0.003) areas at 28 and 42 days than at 7 and 14 days. The cortical NBF at 42 days was greater than that at 7 and 14 days (p = 0.022). No statistically significant differences were observed in cancellous NBF or MAR at 28 and 42 days. Based on these results, it can be seen that the PLDLLA internal fixation device is biocompatible and allows new bone formation around the screw thread.

Abstract
Surgical trauma in those under a prolonged use of bisphosphonates, can lead to mediation-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ). This study aimed to evaluate the preventive therapies for MRONJ. Following four cycles of zoledronic acid administration, Wistar rats had their molar extracted, and were organized into nine treatment groups: negative control group (NCG), treated with saline solution and blood-clot in the alveolus; positive control group (PCG), with blood-clot in the alveolus; BG, β-tricalcium phosphate-based biomaterial; DG, 10% doxycycline gel; aG, antimicrobial photodynamic therapy; and DBG, aBG, aDG, and aDBG, using combination therapy. After 28 days, the lowest bone volume (BV/TV) was reported in PCG (42.17% ± 2.65), and the highest in aDBG (69.85% ± 6.25) (p < 0.05). The higher values of daily mineral apposition rate were recorded in aDBG (2.64 ± 0.48) and DBG (2.30 ± 0.37) (p < 0.001). Moreover, aDBG presented with the highest neoformed bone area (82.44% ± 2.69) (p < 0.05). Non-vital bone was reported only in the PCG (37.94 ± 18.70%). Owing to the key role of the biomaterial, the combination approach (aDBG) was the most effective in preventing MRONJ following tooth extraction.

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the potential of strontium ranelate (SR) in medication-related jaw osteonecrosis (MRONJ) after tooth extraction in ovariectomized rats. Thirty ovariectomized rats were divided into three groups (n = 10): bisphophonate (BP) group (zoledronic acid; 0.4 mg/kg/week), SR group (625 mg/kg/day), and control group (saline solution). The lower first molars were extracted after 60 days of drug therapy. Drug administration was continued for another 30 days after tooth extraction. The mandibles were subjected to clinical, histological, radiographic, and microtomographic evaluations. Only the BP group showed clinical changes, characterized by the presence of 70% (n = 7) and 20% (n = 2) of ulcers and extraoral fistulas. Radiographic evaluation demonstrated bone sequestration only in the BP group (n = 7, 70%). Microtomographic analysis revealed increased bone porosity after ovariectomy, particularly in the the control group (p < 0.05). The BP group showed a higher bone surface density, bone volume, and trabecular number than SR and control groups, but with less trabecular separation (p < 0.05). All the animals in the BP group demonstrated histological osteonecrosis. There was no evidence of osteonecrosis in the control and SR groups, which was characterized by the absence of empty osteocyte gaps and associated with the gradual healing of the extraction area. Also, an increased number of blood vessels and a reduced number of osteoclasts were observed in the SR group (p < 0.05). Therefore, SR treatment increased angiogenesis and osteoclastogenesis in the healing socket and was not associated with MRONJ development after tooth extraction in ovariectomized rats.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study examined the effects of raloxifene during bone formation around the dental implant in the ovariectomy-induced osteoporotic rat maxilla. METHODS Fifty-four female 10-week-old Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into three groups (n = 18 each); sham-operated (control), ovariectomized (OVX), and ovariectomized and raloxifene-administered (RAL). Eight weeks after ovariectomy, both upper first molars were extracted, and implants were placed 4 weeks post-extraction. The RAL group was given 1 mg/kg of raloxifene per day while the other groups received a vehicle. Six rats in each group were sacrificed at days 4, 7, and 14 and submitted for quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and immunohistochemical staining, for evaluation of osteogenic genes expressions. RESULTS The alkaline phosphatase expression was upregulated in the RAL group compared to the OVX group at day 4. The osteocalcin expression was significantly higher between the RAL group and the OVX group at day 7. Immunohistochemical staining revealed increased expression during the initial bone-forming process and indicated more active bone formation in the RAL group than in the OVX group. CONCLUSION Raloxifene administration enhanced the osteogenic genes and proteins expression in the bone around the implant. Further studies are required to establish the long-term clinical effects of raloxifene administration.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This systematic review aimed to address whether the alveolar socket repair after a tooth extraction is impacted by an osteoporotic phenotype and propose methodological observations. DESIGN A search strategy in MEDLINE/PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Scopus databases was performed. Quality assessment was carried out through the SYRCLE Risk of Bias tool. RESULTS Out of the 1147 potentially relevant records, 25 met the inclusion criteria. Most of the studies were performed in rats, and ovariectomy (OVX) was the most frequent osteoporosis induction method. Histomorphometry, micro-computed tomography (microCT), and immunohistochemistry were the main bone repair evaluation methods. Most of the included studies (88 %) presented negative impacts of osteoporosis on the alveolar socket repair. Only three studies (12 %) showed no statistical differences among groups. Overall, most of the quality assessment categories presented a high percentage of unclear risk of bias due to insufficient information in the studies. CONCLUSIONS The results indicated that an osteoporotic phenotype seems to impair alveolar socket repair after tooth extraction. However, there is still a lack of information and standardization. Therefore, further studies should consider the proposed methodological aspects regarding animal characteristics, OVX associated with a low calcium diet, waiting 8 weeks to osteoporosis induction, maxillary molars as the best option for tooth extraction, confirming and reporting OVX and osteoporosis success, and an appropriate method of repair analysis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Orthodontic relapse is a physiologic process that involves remodelling of the alveolar bone and principle periodontal ligament fibres. Raloxifene is an Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved selective oestrogen receptor modulator that inhibits systemic bone loss. In our study, we examined the effects of Raloxifene on alveolar bone modelling and orthodontic relapse in a rodent model. MATERIALS AND METHODS The efficacy of raloxifene was evaluated in 15-week-old male Wistar rats, 8 in each group (Control, Raloxifene, Raloxifene + 7-day relapse, Raloxifene + 14-day relapse) for a total of 42 days. All animals had 14 days of orthodontic tooth movement with a closed nickel-titanium coil spring tied from incisors to right first molar applying 5-8 gm of force. On the day of appliance removal, impression was taken with silicon material and the distance between first molar and second molar was filled with light-cured adhesive resin cement for retention phase. Raloxifene Retention, Raloxifene Retention + 7D, Raloxifene Retention + 14D groups received 14 daily doses of raloxifene (2.0 mg/kg/day) subcutaneously after orthodontic tooth movement during retention. After 14 days of retention, the retainer was removed and right first molar was allowed to relapse for a period of 14 days. Raloxifene injection continued for the Raloxifene + 14-day relapse group during relapse phase too. Control group received saline injections during retention. Animals were euthanized by CO2 inhalation. The outcome measure included percentage of relapse, bone volume fraction, tissue density, and histology analysis using tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase staining and determining receptor activator of nuclear factor-кB-ligand (RANKL) and osteoprotegerin expression. RESULTS Raloxifene Retention + 14D group had significantly less (P < 0.05) orthodontic relapse when compared with other groups. There was a significant increase (P < 0.05) in bone volume fraction and tissue density in the Raloxifene Retention + 14D group when compared with other groups. Similarly, there was significant decrease in number of osteoclasts and RANKL expression in Raloxifene Retention + 14D group when compared with Raloxifene Retention + 7D group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION Raloxifene could decrease post-orthodontic treatment relapse by decreasing bone resorption and indirectly enhancing bone formation.

Abstract
This study evaluated the effects of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) in the alveolar repair of rats with major risk factors for bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (BRONJ). Senile rats received 0.45 ml of vehicle (VEH and VEH/aPDT) or 0.45 ml of zoledronate (ZOL and ZOL/aPDT) every three days for seven weeks. After three weeks of treatment, the first lower left molar was extracted. VEH/aPDT and ZOL/aPDT were submitted to aPDT on the extraction site at 0, 2 and 4 days postoperatively. Euthanasia was performed 28 days postoperatively and the extraction site was evaluated by clinical, histological, histometric, histochemical and immunohistochemical analysis. ZOL showed tissue repair impairment; lower percentage of newly formed bone tissue (NFBT); higher percentage of non-vital bone tissue (NVBT); fewer mature collagen fibers and increased immunolabeling for tumor necrosis factor (TNFα), interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-6. ZOL/aPDT showed clinical and histological characteristics of the extraction site, percentage of NFBT and percentage of mature collagen fiber similar to VEH. Percentage of NVBT and immunolabeling for inflammatory cytokines in ZOL/aPDT was lower than in ZOL. Immunolabeling for tartarato-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) was lower in ZOL and ZOL/aPDT. aPDT in the dental extraction site improves tissue repair process and prevents the occurrence of BRONJ-like lesions after tooth extraction.

Abstract
Raloxifene is an antiresorptive drug, selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) used in the treatment of osteoporosis. Objective To evaluate proteins related to bone repair at the peri-implant bone in a rat model of osteoporosis treated with raloxifene. Material and Methods 72 rats were divided into three groups: SHAM (healthy animals), OVX (ovariectomized animals), and RLX (ovariectomized animals treated with raloxifene). Raloxifene was administered by gavage (1 mg/kg/day). Tibial implantation was performed 30 days after ovariectomy, and animals were euthanized at 14, 42, and 60 days postoperatively. Samples were collected and analyzed by immunohistochemical reactions, molecular analysis, and microtomographic parameters. Results RLX showed intense staining of all investigated proteins at both time points except for RUNX2. These results were similar to SHAM and opposite to OVX, showing mild staining. The PCR gene expression of OC and ALP values for RLX (P<0.05) followed by SHAM and OVX groups. For BSP data, the highest expression was observed in the RLX groups and the lowest expression was observed in the OVX groups (P<0.05). For RUNX2 data, RLX and SHAM groups showed greater values compared to OVX (P<0.05). At 60 days postoperatively, microtomography parameters, related to closed porosity, showed higher values for (Po.N), (Po.V), and (Po) in RLX and SHAM groups, whereas OVX groups showed lower results (P<0.05); (BV) values (P=0.009); regarding total porosity (Po.tot), RLX group had statistically significant lower values than OVX and SHAM groups (P=0.009). Regarding the open porosity (Po.V and Po), the SHAM group presented the highest values, followed by OVX and RLX groups (P<0.05). The Structural Model Index (SMI), RLX group showed a value closer to zero than SHAM group (P<0.05). Conclusions Raloxifene had a positive effect on the expression of osteoblastogenesis/mineralization-related proteins and on micro-CT parameters related to peri-implant bone healing.

Abstract
Osteonecrosis is a disease with diverse pathophysiology, clinical presentation, and management. It may be associated with some medications used to treat systemic issues with bone metabolism. A few cases of jaw bone osteonecrosis have been associated with raloxifene. In this paper, the authors present a clinical report of a 64-year-old woman who presented with a necrosis foci in the right alveolar ridge of the mandible, associated with continued raloxifene use.

Abstract
Immunohistochemical studies and molecular biology have enabled us to identify numerous proteins that are involved in the metabolism of bone, and their encoding genes. Among these is alkaline phosphatase (ALP), an enzyme that is responsible for the initiation of mineralisation of the extracellular matrix during alveolar bone repair. To evaluate the gene expression of ALP during this process, we studied nine healthy adult male rats, which had their maxillary central incisors extracted from the right side and were randomly divided into three groups. During three experimental periods, 7 days, 14 days, and 28 days, the alveoli were curetted, the rats killed, and samples analysed by real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). The RNAm that encodes the gene for the synthesis of ALP was expressed during the three periods analysed, but its concentration was significantly increased at 14 and 28 days compared with at 7 days. There was no significant difference between 14 and 28 days (p=0.0005). We conclude that genes related to ALP are expressed throughout the healing process and more intensively during the later periods (14 and 28 days), which coincides with the increased formation of mineralised bone.

Abstract
Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of bone resorption inhibitors, doxycycline (DOX) and erythromycin (EM), on osseous wound healing in rat alveolar socket. Materials and Methods: In this randomized controlled trial, 45 8–10-week-old male Wistar rats had their maxillary right molar extracted. They were divided into three groups of 15. In Group 1 normal saline, Group 2 DOX, and Group 3 EM were administered at the doses of 5 ml/kg/day, 5 mg/kg/day, and 2 mg/kg/day, respectively, for 7 consecutive days. The rats were sacrificed 7, 14, and 21 days after surgery. Real-time polymerase chain reaction was employed to evaluate the mRNA expression of receptor activator of nuclear factor κB ligand (RANKL) and osteoprotegerin (OPG) and immunohistochemical staining for tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) to determine osteoclasts. The data were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance followed by Tukey's post hoc test using SPSS version 20. Significant level was set at 0.05. Results: The results showed that when drug-treated groups compared to control groups, RANKL gene expression significantly decreased, TRAP+ cells decreased on day 7. The RANKL/OPG ratios in the first two weeks in the test groups were significantly lower than the control group. There was no significant difference in the studied indices between DOX and EM groups. Conclusion: Following administration of DOX and EM, the number of osteoclasts and RANKL/OPG ratio decreased suggesting their anti-osteoclastogenesis activity. These two drugs have no advantage over each other in increasing the bone formation.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate bone healing at the bone-implant interface in rats with induced osteoporosis. The rats underwent a bilateral ovariectomy (OVX) and were fed a low calcium and phosphate diet. The OVX rats were divided into three groups: one was treated with raloxifene (OVX-RAL), one with alendronate (OVX-ALE), and one received no medication (OVX-NT). The control group rats (SHAM-DN) underwent sham surgery and were fed a normal diet. Each animal received one implant in each tibia: a machined surface implant in the right tibia and an implant with surface etching in the left tibia. All animals were euthanized after 42 days. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey post hoc tests were applied to the biomechanics (reverse torque) and bone-implant contact (BIC) data (P<0.05). The RAL and ALE groups showed improved peri-implant bone healing. However, the ALE group showed no significant difference from the OVX-NT group. Surface treatment promoted higher corticalization at the bone-implant interface, but showed the same characteristics of mature bone and bone neoformation in concentric laminations as the machined implant. There were no statistically significant differences in reverse torque (P=0.861) or BIC (P=0.745) between the OVX-RAL and SHAM-DN groups. Therefore, the use of raloxifene resulted in good biomechanical, BIC, and histological findings in the treatment of induced osteoporosis in rats.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The anti-osteoporotic drug raloxifene reduces the risk of vertebral fractures by increasing bone mass density. We investigated whether raloxifene offers any benefits in augmenting early fixation of orthopedic implants in the setting of impaction bone grafting. METHODS 24 non-weight-bearing grafted gap implants were inserted bilaterally into the tibia of 12 dogs. The 2.5-mm peri-implant gap was filled with either raloxifene-impregnated or untreated bone allograft. Implants were harvested after 28 days. Implant fixation was assessed by mechanical testing and histomorphometric evaluation. RESULTS Raloxifene-treated allograft reduced early implant fixation compared to untreated allograft, as measured by inferior maximum shear strength (p < 0.001) and apparent shear stiffness (p = 0.001). We found that the raloxifene group had more newly formed bone in the gap around the implant (p = 0.02), but also less allograft (p = 0.03). INTERPRETATION The accelerated allograft resorption in the raloxifene group explained the impaired early fixation, despite its stimulation of new bone formation. Our results with local and possible high-dose treatment are not consistent with current theory regarding the mechanism of how systemic raloxifene administration counteracts the decrease in BMD in postmenopausal women. Instead of being solely anti-resorptive as generally held, our results indicate a possible anabolic side of raloxifene.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate the dental socket bone healing process by histomorphometric and immunohistochemical analysis of osteoprotegerin (OPG), receptor activator of nuclear factor-κβ (RANK), and receptor activator of nuclear factor-κβ ligand (RANKL) proteins in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). MATERIALS AND METHODS Under general anesthesia, 25 Wistar rats and 25 SHRs underwent upper right incisor extraction. Rats were euthanized after 7, 14, 21, 28, or 42 days of dental extractions. Histomorphometric and immunohistochemical analyses of OPG, RANK, and RANKL proteins were performed. RESULTS Histomorphometric results showed decreased bone healing and reduced bone trabecular thickness in SHRs. Immunohistochemical reactions showed intense RANKL and RANK immunolabeling at 14 and 28 postoperative days and mild OPG immunolabeling at 7, 14, and 21 days after surgery in SHRs. CONCLUSION The results of this study show that RANK, RANKL, and OPG immunolabeling was altered in SHRs, and these results are associated with bone healing delay and decreased trabecular thickness in SHRs. CLINICAL RELEVANCE Hypertension alters the expression of RANK, RANKL, and OPG and delays the socket bone healing process. These alterations could influence some dental procedures such as orthodontic treatment and implant placement.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of raloxifene (RLX) during progression of periapical lesions in ovariectomized (OVX) rats. METHODS Female Wistar rats were OVX or subjected to sham surgery and received vehicle or RLX by gavage for 90 days. The treatment groups were as follows: sham surgery and treated with vehicle (SHAM-veh), OVX and treated with vehicle (OVX-veh), and OVX and treated with RLX (OVX-RLX). During treatment, the pulp of lower first molar was exposed to the oral environment for induction of periapical lesion that was analyzed 7 or 30 days after procedure. Blood samples were taken from jugular vein for measurement of estradiol, and the mandibles were removed and prepared for radiographic, histopathologic, histometric, and immunohistochemical analysis. RESULTS Estradiol plasma concentration showed hypoestrogenism in OVX rats. The histopathologic analysis of the OVX/RLX group was similar to that of the SHAM-veh group, whereas OVX-veh group showed larger periapical lesions with more intense inflammatory response and more cells positive for tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase. Radiographically, the groups were similar, but lesions on day 7 were smaller than lesions on day 30. CONCLUSIONS The results suggest that hypoestrogenism potentiates the progression of periapical lesions, and such condition was reversed by treatment with RLX.

Abstract
AIM To analyse the local regulatory mechanisms of osteoclastogenesis and angiogenesis during the progression of periapical lesions in female rats with oestrogen deficiency and treatment with raloxifene (RLX). METHODOLOGY Female Wistar rats were distributed into groups: SHAM-veh, subjected to sham surgery and treated with a vehicle; OVX-veh, subjected to ovary removal and treated with a vehicle; and OVX-RLX, subjected to ovary removal and treated with RLX. Vehicle or RLX was administered orally for 90 days. During treatment, the dental pulp of mandibular first molars was exposed to the oral environment for induction of periapical lesions, which were analysed after 7 and 30 days. After the experimental periods, blood samples were collected for measurement of oestradiol, calcium, phosphorus and alkaline phosphatase. The rats were euthanized and the mandibles removed and processed for immunohistochemical detection of receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-B ligand (RANKL), osteoprotegerin (OPG), hypoxia-inducible factor-1 alpha (HIF-1α) and bone-specific alkaline phosphatase (BALP). Data were compared using Kruskal-Wallis followed by Dunn test (nonparametric values) and anova followed by the Tukey's test (parametric values). RESULTS The plasma concentration of oestradiol showed hypo-oestrogenism in the rats subjected to ovary removal. On day 7, alkaline phosphatase activity, calcium and phosphorus were higher in the OVX-RLX group than in the OVX-veh group (P < 0.001), but immunolabelling for RANKL and HIF-1α was lower in OVX-RLX group (P < 0.001). On day 30, the OVX-veh group had higher immunolabelling for RANKL than the OVX-RLX group (P < 0.05). There were no significant differences in the immunoreactivity of OPG and BALP between any groups at either time-point (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION RLX therapy reversed the increased levels of the local regulators of both osteoclastogenesis and angiogenesis induced by oestrogen deficiency.

Abstract
PURPOSE To analyze the effects of aqueous ozone irrigation over bone healing in hyperglycemia-induced rats. METHODS Forty-eight male Wistar rats were allocated into Group H (hyperglycemic) or Group N (control). Monocortical bone wound were performed on femurs' anterolateral face. Wounds were treated with a trans-operatory single irrigation of 100ml of aqueous ozone [0.004mg/ml] whereas control groups received 100ml of pure water (Milli-Q®). Histomorphological and histomorphometrical analyses were accomplished after seven, 14 and 21 days. Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney statistical tests were applied for bone neoformation quantification and assessment. RESULTS Aqueous ozone wounds irrigated revealed diffuse hemorrhage and increased neoformed of blood vessels number. There was no statistical significant difference in bone trabeculae neoformation. After seven and 14 days, the number of osteoclasts was higher in aqueous ozone groups than in those treated with pure water. CONCLUSION Independently of blood glucose levels, aqueous ozone allowed an increase in blood vessels neoformation and osteoclast migration, without affect bone trabeculae neoformation.
