Abstract
The role of minerals in female fertility, particularly in relation to the menstrual cycle, presents a complex area of study that underscores the interplay between nutrition and reproductive health. This narrative review aims to elucidate the impacts of minerals on key aspects of the reproductive system: hormonal regulation, ovarian function and ovulation, endometrial health, and oxidative stress. Despite the attention given to specific micronutrients in relation to reproductive disorders, there is a noticeable absence of a comprehensive review focusing on the impact of minerals throughout the menstrual cycle on female fertility. This narrative review aims to address this gap by examining the influence of minerals on reproductive health. Each mineral's contribution is explored in detail to provide a clearer picture of its importance in supporting female fertility. This comprehensive analysis not only enhances our knowledge of reproductive health but also offers clinicians valuable insights into potential therapeutic strategies and the recommended intake of minerals to promote female reproductive well-being, considering the menstrual cycle. This review stands as the first to offer such a detailed examination of minerals in the context of the menstrual cycle, aiming to elevate the understanding of their critical role in female fertility and reproductive health.

Abstract
Background: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition with unknown etiology. Both genetic and environmental factors have been associated with ASD. Environmental exposures during the prenatal period may play an important role in ASD development. This narrative review critically examines the evidence for a relationship between maternal thyroid dysfunction during pregnancy and ASD in the child. Summary: Studies that assessed the associations of hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, hypothyroxinemia, thyroid hormone concentrations, or autoimmune thyroid disease with ASD outcomes were included. Most research focused on the relationship between hypothyroidism and ASD. Multiple population-based studies found that maternal hypothyroidism was associated with higher likelihood of an ASD diagnosis in offspring. Associations with other forms of maternal thyroid dysfunction were less consistent. Findings may have been affected by misclassification bias, survival bias, or publication bias. Studies using medical records may have misclassified subclinical thyroid dysfunction as euthyroidism. Two studies that assessed children at early ages may have misclassified those with ASD as typically developing. Most studies adjusted for maternal body mass index (BMI) and/or mental illness, but not interpregnancy interval or pesticide exposure, all factors associated with fetal survival and ASD. Most studies reported a combination of null and statistically significant findings, although publication bias is still possible. Conclusions: Overall, evidence supported a positive association between maternal thyroid dysfunction during pregnancy and ASD outcomes in the child, especially for hypothyroidism. Future studies could reduce misclassification bias by using laboratory measures instead of medical records to ascertain thyroid dysfunction and evaluating children for ASD at an age when it can be reliably detected. Survival bias could be further mitigated by adjusting models for more factors associated with fetal survival and ASD. Additional research is needed to comprehensively understand the roles of maternal levothyroxine treatment, iodine deficiency, or exposure to thyroid-disrupting compounds in the relationship between maternal thyroid dysfunction and child ASD outcomes.

Abstract
Introduction The aim of this study was to determine the extent to which regular monitoring of maternal free thyroxine level and pregnancy-adapted L-thyroxine replacement therapy before and during pregnancy in patients with existing or newly diagnosed latent and manifest hypothyroidism as well as hypothyroxinemia can influence the rate of premature births. Materials and Methods This is a retrospective cohort study assessing 1440 pseudonymized survey questionnaires to evaluate the risks of premature birth with two study groups from the same medical practice, and a nationally recruited control group. Study group A (n = 360) had already been taking L-thyroxine prior to conception, study group B (n = 580) started taking it after conception. Both study groups had a maximum gestational age of 12 + 0 GW. In the study groups, TSH and free thyroxine levels were determined regularly for dose adjustment purposes. The aim was to keep the free thyroxine level in the euthyroid hyperthyroxinemic range within the pregnancy adapted reference range. The control group (n = 500) had taken L-thyroxine during pregnancy according to criteria that were not known, as the questionnaire did not include any questions regarding this matter. Taking other risk factors into account, the influence of pregnancy-adapted L-thyroxine replacement therapy on the rate of premature births was determined using logistic regression analysis. Results Compared with the control group, the premature birth rate was 70% lower (p < 0.0001) in study group A and 42% lower in study group B (p = 0.0086), while the odds ratio, at 3.46, was particularly significant in study group A. High blood pressure (odds ratio 5.21), body mass index per kg/m 2 (odds ratio 0.91) and S. p. premature birth were identified as other independent risk factors. Conclusion The results show an association between more intensive thyroid diagnostics and pregnancy-adapted L-thyroxine replacement therapy and a decrease in premature births. Further studies should be conducted to confirm these results.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Female infertility is defined as the inability to achieve pregnancy following one year of consistent, unprotected sexual intercourse. Among the various endocrine factors contributing to this complex issue, thyroid dysfunction assumes a pivotal and noteworthy role. METHODS A narrative review, encompassing 134 articles up to 2023, was conducted utilizing the PubMed/Medline, EMBASE, and Scielo databases. The primary focus of this review was to investigate the effects of thyroid dysfunction on female infertility. RESULTS Thyroid disorders exert a significant influence on folliculogenesis, fertilization, and implantation processes. Thyroid autoimmunity, although associated with diminished ovarian reserve, does not typically necessitate levothyroxine therapy. On the other hand, both subclinical and overt hypothyroidism often require levothyroxine treatment to enhance fertility and optimize obstetric outcomes. Hyperthyroidism warrants prompt intervention due to its heightened risk of miscarriage. Furthermore, thyroid dysfunction exerts notable effects on assisted reproductive technologies, underscoring the importance of achieving euthyroidism prior to ovarian stimulation. CONCLUSION Women presenting with thyroid dysfunction must undergo meticulous and individualized assessments since fertility outcomes, whether achieved through natural conception or assisted reproductive technologies, can be significantly influenced by thyroid-related factors.

Abstract
Maternal hypothyroidism (MH) could adversely affect the cardiac disease responses of the progeny. This study tested the hypothesis that MH reduces early postnatal cardiomyocyte (CM) proliferation so that the adult heart of MH progeny has a smaller number of larger cardiac myocytes, which imparts adverse cardiac disease responses following injury. Thyroidectomy (TX) was used to establish MH. The progeny from mice that underwent sham or TX surgery were termed Ctrl (control) or MH (maternal hypothyroidism) progeny, respectively. MH progeny had similar heart weight (HW) to body weight (BW) ratios and larger CM size consistent with fewer CMs at postnatal day 60 (P60) compared with Ctrl (control) progeny. MH progeny had lower numbers of EdU+, Ki67+, and phosphorylated histone H3 (PH3)+ CMs, which suggests they had a decreased CM proliferation in the postnatal timeframe. RNA-seq data showed that genes related to DNA replication were downregulated in P5 MH hearts, including bone morphogenetic protein 10 (Bmp10). Both in vivo and in vitro studies showed Bmp10 treatment increased CM proliferation. After transverse aortic constriction (TAC), the MH progeny had more severe cardiac pathological remodeling compared with the Ctrl progeny. Thyroid hormone (T4) treatment for MH mothers preserved their progeny's postnatal CM proliferation capacity and prevented excessive pathological remodeling after TAC. Our results suggest that CM proliferation during early postnatal development was significantly reduced in MH progeny, resulting in fewer CMs with hypertrophy in adulthood. These changes were associated with more severe cardiac disease responses after pressure overload.NEW & NOTEWORTHY Our study shows that compared with Ctrl (control) progeny, the adult progeny of mothers who have MH (MH progeny) had fewer CMs. This reduction of CM numbers was associated with decreased postnatal CM proliferation. Gene expression studies showed a reduced expression of Bmp10 in MH progeny. Bmp10 has been linked to myocyte proliferation. In vivo and in vitro studies showed that Bmp10 treatment of MH progeny and their myocytes could increase CM proliferation. Differences in CM number and size in adult hearts of MH progeny were linked to more severe cardiac structural and functional remodeling after pressure overload. T4 (synthetic thyroxine) treatment of MH mothers during their pregnancy, prevented the reduction in CM number in their progeny and the adverse response to disease stress.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive after unprotected sexual intercourse for at least 12 consecutive months. Our objective is to present an updated narrative review on the endocrine causes of infertility in women. AREAS COVERED A comprehensive review was conducted using Scielo, Scopus, and EMBASE databases, comprising 245 articles. The pathophysiology of infertility in women was described, including endocrinopathies such as hypothalamic amenorrhea, hyperprolactinemia, polycystic ovary syndrome, primary ovarian insufficiency, obesity, thyroid dysfunction, and adrenal disorders. The diagnostic approach was outlined, emphasizing the necessity of hormonal studies and ovarian response assessments. Additionally, the treatment plan was presented, commencing with non-pharmacological interventions, encompassing the adoption of a Mediterranean diet, vitamin supplementation, moderate exercise, and maintaining a healthy weight. Subsequently, pharmacological treatment was discussed, focusing on the management of associated endocrine disorders and ovulatory dysfunction. EXPERT OPINION This comprehensive review highlights the impact of endocrine disorders on fertility in women, providing diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms. Despite remaining knowledge gaps that hinder more effective treatments, ongoing research and advancements show promise for improved fertility success rates within the next five years. Enhanced comprehension of the pathophysiology behind endocrine causes and the progress in genetic research will facilitate the delivery of personalized treatments, thus enhancing fertility rates.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Levothyroxine (LT4) at doses that maintain the serum thyroid-stimulating hormone levels within the normal range constitutes the standard of care for the treatment of hypothyroidism. After a few months, this eliminates the signs and symptoms of overt hypothyroidism in the majority of patients, owing to the endogenous activation of thyroxine to triiodothyronine, the biologically active thyroid hormone. Still, a small percentage of the patients (10%-20%) exhibit residual symptoms, despite having normal serum thyroid-stimulating hormone levels. These symptoms include cognitive, mood, and metabolic deficits, with a significant impairment in psychological well-being and quality of life. OBJECTIVE To provide a summary of progress in the approach of patients with hypothyroidism that exhibit residual symptoms despite treatment. METHODS We reviewed the current literature and here we focused on the mechanisms leading to a deficiency of T3 in some LT4-treated patients, the role of residual thyroid tissue and the rationale for combination therapy with LT4 + liothyronine (LT3). RESULTS A score of clinical trials comparing therapy with LT4 versus LT4 + LT3 concluded that both are safe and equally effective (neither is superior); however, these trials failed to recruit a sufficiently large number of patients with residual symptoms. New clinical trials that considered LT4-treated symptomatic patients revealed that such patients benefit from and prefer therapy containing LT4 + LT3; desiccated thyroid extract has also been used with similar results. A practical approach to patients with residual symptoms and on initiation of combination therapy with LT4 + LT3 is provided. CONCLUSION A recent joint statement of the American, British, and European Thyroid Associations recommends that a trial with combination therapy be offered to patients with hypothyroidism that do not fully benefit from therapy with LT4.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate whether thyroid autoimmunity (TAI) is associated with assisted reproductive technology (ART) outcomes in euthyroid women undergoing fresh embryo transfer (ET) and frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET). DESIGN A retrospective cohort study. Pregnancy and neonatal outcome after fresh ET or FET were compared between the positive and negative thyroid autoimmune antibody groups. PATIENTS A total of 5439 euthyroid women who started their ART cycle at our centre between 2015 and 2019 were included. RESULTS The thyroid antibody positive group had a greater mean age than the thyroid antibody negative group (32(29,35) vs. 31(28,34), p < .001). Women with positive thyroid antibody presented with a higher prevalence of diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) (9.1% vs. 7.1%, p = .026) and lower number of oocyte retrieved (9(5,15) vs. 10(6,15), p = .020), but difference was not significant after adjusting for age. The pregnancy rate, live birth rate, pregnancy loss rate, preterm delivery rate and low birthweight rate between the thyroid antibody positive and thyroid antibody negative groups were comparable both in fresh ET cycles and FET cycles. Subanalysis of the treatment outcomes when using a stricter threshold of TSH of 2.5 mIU/L showed no difference to that achieved when using an upper limit of 4.78 mIU/L. CONCLUSIONS The present study reveals that patients with anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAbs) and/or antithyroglobulin antibodies (TgAbs) showed no significant differences in pregnancy outcomes following fresh ET and FET when compared with patients with negative thyroid antibodies.

Abstract
Women with thyroid autoimmunity (TAI), predominately characterized by increased levels of thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb), are at risk for developing pregnancy related complications. In this review, we discuss the importance of TAI during natal and perinatal stages. Before pregnancy, TAI is associated with higher mean serum TSH levels and certain causes of subfertility. During pregnancy, TAI increases the risk of an insufficient response of the thyroid to an increasing strain induced by pregnancy, and consequently (subclinical) hypothyroidism might develop. Euthyroid women with TAI have a higher rate of maternal and foetal complications, but it seems that causality cannot be pinned down to thyroid dysfunction alone. Almost half of the women known with TAI prior to pregnancy will also develop post-partum thyroiditis (PPT). However, any relation between PPT and post-partum depression remains uncertain. More research is required to explain possible associations between TAI and pregnancy morbidities, and studies should focus on a better understanding of TAI as such. Given the many unanswered questions, at present, it is not recommended to screen all (potentially) pregnant women for the presence of TAI.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the association between preconception thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) level and time to pregnancy within a community-based population. DESIGN A community-based cohort study. SETTING Two free preconception check-up centers. PATIENT(S) Women who enrolled in the National Free Preconception Check-up Projects from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018 in Tianhe and Zengcheng districts of Guangzhou city. INTERVENTION(S) None. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S) Time to pregnancy. RESULT(S) A total of 1,478 women were eligible for the analysis; of these, 1,401 had a preconception TSH level within the range of 0.50 and 5.59 mIU/L (2.5th-97.5th percentiles) were taken as target study population. Among them, 968 (69.1%) couples achieved pregnancy within the first 6 months and 1,082 (77.2%) within 12 months. Dichotomized by the recommended cut-off value of 2.5 mIU/L, the percentage of women conceived in the high TSH level category (2.50-5.59 mIU/L) was comparable to that of the low category (0.50-2.49 mIU/L) (79.0% vs. 78.1%), with a crude fecundity odd ratio of 0.99 (95% confidence interval at 0.87-1.13). No statistically significant difference was observed after the adjustment in all models. Continuous TSH level was further examined, and the nonlinear association between TSH level and fecundity odds ratios was of no statistical significance. CONCLUSION(S) Preconception TSH level was not associated with fecundity in a healthy community-based population. Women attempting pregnancy with a TSH level ≥ 2.5 mIU/L can be reassured that they are unlikely to have an increased time to pregnancy.

Abstract
PURPOSE We herein aimed to review the new insights into the impact of impaired thyroid function on male and female fertility, spacing from spontaneous pregnancy to ART, with the objective of providing an updated narrative revision of the literature. METHODS This narrative review was performed for all available prospective, retrospective and review articles, published up to 2021 in PubMed. Data were extracted from the text and from the tables of the manuscript. RESULTS Thyroid dysfunction is frequently associated with female infertility, whereas its link with male infertility is debated. Female wise, impaired function is detrimental to obstetric and fetal outcomes both in spontaneous pregnancies and in those achieved thanks to assisted reproduction technologies (ART). Furthermore, the reference range of TSH in natural pregnancy and ART procedures has recently become a matter of debate following recent reports in this field. On the other hand, the impact of thyroid function on the male reproductive system is less clear, although a possible role is suggested via modulation of Sertoli and Leydig cells function and spermatogenesis. CONCLUSION Thyroid function should be carefully monitored in both male and female, in couples seeking spontaneous pregnancy as well as ART, as treatment is generally immediate and likely to improve chances of success.

Abstract
Background: Thyroid autoimmunity (TAI) has a high prevalence among women of reproductive age. Investigating its possible impact on ovarian function and fertility is, thus, of utmost relevance. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to elucidate the effect of TAI on both assisted reproductive technology (ART) outcomes and ovarian reserve. Methods: This systematic review and meta-analysis was restricted to two groups of research articles investigating the association between TAI and: (1) autologous ART outcomes (i.e., fertilization rate [FR], implantation rate, clinical pregnancy rate [CPR], miscarriage rate, and live birth rate), (2) markers of ovarian reserve (i.e., anti-Müllerian hormone, basal follicle stimulating hormone, antral follicle count, and number of oocytes retrieved). Studies including women affected by overt hypo/hyperthyroidism were excluded. Relevant studies were identified by a systematic search in PubMed, MEDLINE, ClinicalTrials.gov, Embase, and Scopus, from database inception to May 1, 2022. Results: From a total of 432 identified publications, 22 studies were included in Group 1 and 26 studies in Group 2. The presence of TAI was associated with a higher risk of miscarriage (7606 participants, odds ratio [OR] 1.52, confidence interval [CI 1.14-2.01], p = 0.004, I2 = 53%), lower chance of embryo implantation (7118 participants, OR 0.72, [CI 0.59-0.88], p = 0.001, I2 = 36%), and live birth (11417 participants, OR 0.73, [CI 0.56-0.94], p = 0.02, I2 = 71%). These associations were no longer observed in a subgroup analysis of patients who exclusively underwent intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). The FR and CPR as well as the mean values of surrogate markers of oocyte quantity appeared not to be affected by TAI. Conclusions: This data synthesis suggest a higher risk of adverse ART outcomes in women with positive TAI. However, the reliability of these findings is hampered by the relatively low quality of the evidence and significant heterogeneity in many of the meta-analyses. The possible protective effect of ICSI is promising but should be confirmed in controlled prospective clinical trials. PROSPERO Registration ID: CRD42021236529.

Abstract
Background: Thyroid dysfunction is prevalent in reproductive-age women and has been identified as a risk factor for female infertility. However, it remains largely unclear whether subtle thyroid dysfunction, as estimated by moderately high thyrotropin (TSH) levels within the normal range, is associated with ovarian reserve in infertile women before assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment. Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 3501 euthyroid infertile women, including 2189 women with TSH levels ≤2.5 μIU/mL and 1312 women with high-normal TSH levels (2.51-4.20 μIU/mL). Ovarian reserve markers were compared between women with low- and high-normal TSH levels. Correlation analysis and regression models were used to estimate the association of TSH levels with ovarian reserve. In addition, the association of subtle thyroid dysfunction with ovarian reserve was further evaluated after stratification for different infertility diagnoses and statuses of thyroid autoimmunity (TAI). Results: In the total population, women with high-normal TSH levels had significantly decreased anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) concentrations (p < 0.001), a lower bilateral antral follicle count (AFC) (p < 0.001), and a higher prevalence of diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) (p = 0.018) than women with low-normal TSH levels. The TSH levels showed a negative association with both AMH levels (r = -0.050, p = 0.003) and bilateral AFC (r = -0.071, p < 0.001). Furthermore, the association of high-normal TSH levels with decreased AMH and AFC was more prominent in infertile women with ovulation dysfunction (p = 0.002, p = 0.002), unexplained infertility (p = 0.020, p = 0.028), or negative TAI (both p < 0.001). Conclusions: These data suggested that subtle thyroid dysfunction was associated with DOR in infertile women before ART treatment, which will add evidence that strengthens the systematic screening of TSH levels/TAI in infertile women and will contribute to the discussion of specific TSH cutoff values in predicting ovarian reserve.

Abstract
Accumulating evidence has shown that thyroid hormones (THs) are vital for female reproductive system homeostasis. THs regulate the reproductive functions through thyroid hormone receptors (THRs)-mediated genomic- and integrin-receptor-associated nongenomic mechanisms, depending on TH ligand status and DNA level, as well as transcription and extra-nuclear signaling transduction activities. These processes involve the binding of THs to intracellular THRs and steroid hormone receptors or membrane receptors and the recruitment of hormone-response elements. In addition, THs and other reproductive hormones can activate common signaling pathways due to their structural similarity and shared DNA consensus sequences among thyroid, peptide, and protein hormones and their receptors, thus constituting a complex and reciprocal interaction network. Moreover, THs not only indirectly affect the synthesis, secretion, and action of reproductive hormones, but are also regulated by these hormones at the same time. This crosstalk may be one of the pivotal factors regulating female reproductive behavior and hormone-related diseases, including tumors. Elucidating the interaction mechanism among the aforementioned hormones will contribute to apprehending the etiology of female reproductive diseases, shedding new light on the treatment of gynecological disorders.

Abstract
The regulation of the female reproductive system is one of the most relevant actions of thyroid hormones. Adequate thyroid hormones production is essential for normal menstrual function and fertility as well as for the successful maintenance of pregnancy. The relationship between reproductive failure and thyroid disorders is particularly relevant and attracts attention worldwide. Thyroid autoimmunity (TAI), defined by the presence of circulating antithyroid antibodies targeting thyroid peroxidase (TPOAb) and thyroglobulin (TgAb), is prevalent among women of reproductive age and is the most frequent cause of thyroid dysfunction. Several studies addressed the association between TAI, thyroid function, and fertility as well as pregnancy outcome after spontaneous or assisted conception. Infertility, miscarriages, and fetal-maternal complications are described in overt autoimmune hypothyroidism. More debatable is the role of mild thyroid dysfunction, mainly subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH), and TAI in the absence of thyroid dysfunction in infertility and reproductive outcome. Assisted reproductive technology (ART) has become an integral element of care for infertility. Women with TAI undergoing ART are of particular interest since they carry a higher risk of developing hypothyroidism after the ovarian stimulation but whether TAI, in absence of thyroid dysfunction, adversely affects ART outcome is still controversial. Likewise, the role of levothyroxine (LT4) in improving fertility and the success of ART in euthyroid women with TAI is unclear. This review discusses the role of TAI, in the absence of thyroid dysfunction, in infertility and in ART outcome.

Abstract
Thyroid autoimmunity (TAI) is commonly defined as the presence of thyroperoxidase antibodies (TPOAbs) and/or thyroglobulin antibodies (TgAbs), which predisposes an individual to hypothyroidism. TAI affects nearly 10% of women of reproductive age and evokes great interest from clinicians because of its potentially negative impact on female fertility and pregnancy course. In this mini-review, we review the current literature concerning the influence of TPOAb or TPOAb/TgAb positivity without thyroid dysfunction on reproduction. TAI may negatively affect female fertility; several studies have found an increased prevalence of TAI in infertile women, especially in those with unexplained infertility and polycystic ovary syndrome. According to some observations, TAI might also be connected with premature ovarian insufficiency and endometriosis. The relationship between TAI and an increased risk of pregnancy loss is well documented. The pathophysiological background of these observations remains unclear, and researchers hypothesize on the direct infiltration of reproductive organs by thyroid antibodies, co-existence of TAI with other autoimmune diseases (either organ specific or systemic), immunological dysfunction leading to inhibition of immune tolerance, and relative thyroid hormone deficiency. Interestingly, in the current literature, better outcomes of assisted reproductive technology in women with TAI have been reported compared with those reported in earlier publications. One plausible explanation is the more widespread use of the intracytoplasmic sperm injection method. The results of randomized clinical trials have shown that levothyroxine supplementation is ineffective in preventing adverse pregnancy outcomes in women with TAI, and future research should probably be directed toward immunotherapy.

Abstract
Women who are fertile experience a significant burden from thyroid cancer. In
reality, delaying childbirth is the current trend in maternity. Women who have
thyroid cancer may later want to get pregnant after it has been treated, which
presents a multidisciplinary issue for their doctors. A variety of specialists
are frequently involved in the treatment of thyroid cancer. This review aims to
address the key elements of the strategy and places special emphasis on the
significance of fertility in women with thyroid cancer diagnosis and remission.
We will cover topics including the role of thyroid hormones in pregnancy and
fertility.

Abstract
Various psychological interventions have been developed to combat negative mental and physical health effects of infertility. However, it is unknown if there are common elements, or "active ingredients," between interventions. This review examined which active ingredients were present among psychological interventions targeting the impacts of infertility. Using a predetermined search strategy, 72 articles and 22 active ingredients were identified. Relaxation/stress management was found to be the most common treatment element. Future research should investigate which active ingredients are most effective for reducing infertility-related stressors so clinicians and researchers can create and implement treatments that contain essential and effective components.

Abstract
METHODS 45 healthy and adult female SD rats were randomly divided into three groups: normal control group, EAT model group, and selenium yeast supplement EAT group. The EAT model rats were induced by subcutaneous injection of porcine thyroglobulin and fed with high iodine water. The concentrations of serum thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), TGAb, TPOAb, and B cell activating factor (BAFF) were detected in each group by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and the expression of interleukin-10 (IL-10) in thyroid tissue was detected by immunohistochemistry. B cells and regulatory B cells (Bregs) ratios in the spleen of rats were analyzed by flow cytometry. RESULTS In contrast with the EAT model group, the levels of serum TSH, TGAB, TPOAb, and BAFF were decreased, while IL-10 expression was increased in thyroid tissue, and Bregs ratio was upregulated in the spleen (all p < 0.05) in the selenium yeast supplement EAT group. CONCLUSION Selenium yeast supplement could partially attenuate immune imbalance in EAT rats, which may be related to the mechanism of modulating B lymphocyte activity.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The incidence of Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is significantly higher than in normal controls, and there is a risk of more severe metabolic symptoms when the two diseases occur together. This study compares insulin secretion, insulin resistance (IR) and thyroid function in patients with PCOS with and without HT. METHODS A total of 164 patients (52 patients with HT (HT+) and 112 patients without HT diagnosed PCOS at our hospital were enrolled for testing of oral glucose tolerance, insulin release, thyroid function, the presence of thyroglobulin and thyroid peroxidase antibodies, and blood lipid levels. RESULTS Patients with PCOS and HT had higher insulin secretion and IR levels than those without HT, while free thyroxine and thyrotropin levels were significantly lower. The ratio of free thyroxine to thyrotropin was higher in patients with HT. CONCLUSION HT may related with IR and relatively low thyroid function in patients with PCOS. Thus, thyroid function and autoimmune status in patients with PCOS should be evaluated in clinical practice.
