Abstract
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is an impairing mental health disease, generally beginning in childhood, affecting up to ∼3% of the population. Using evidence-based assessments (EBAs) is the starting point for the accurate diagnosis and treatment of OCD. EBAs consist of structured and semistructured clinician-administered interviews, parent-report and child-report, and self-report for adults. This article details the practical application, psychometric properties, and limitations of available assessments to determine the presence of OCD and evaluate OCD symptom severity. The following reviews measurement of constructs relevant to OCD (ie, insight, family accommodation, impairment) and details considerations for best clinical interview practices.

Abstract
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) frequently affects children and adolescents, with most cases beginning during this time. Symptoms of OCD in youth may present as exaggerated developmental concerns and excessive ritualistic behavior beyond what is part of normal development, yet low levels of insight may prevent recognition. Affected youth commonly have comorbid neurodevelopmental diagnoses, especially males. Early detection and intervention are critical to recovery and remission, as well as family involvement in treatment. Cognitive behavioral therapy and serotonin reuptake inhibitors are first-line treatments.

Abstract
AIM Schools are a key platform for health promotion and a point of connection to local health-care services, with an almost universal reach across the child and adolescent population. This study sought to determine whether validated psychosocial assessment tools exist for a school-based nursing program that would assist in providing an initial health assessment to identify and understand the needs of children and young people referred to the nurse, with the outcome of appropriate connection to external health and wellbeing services. METHODS Rapid evidence assessment methodology was utilised to identify validated tools that could identify psychosocial concerns in children and young people aged 5-18 years. We identified articles from peer-reviewed journals via three electronic bibliographic databases (PubMed, Embase and CINAHL). We then extended the search for evidence through a search of the grey literature. RESULTS From 3963 peer-reviewed articles found in the database search, 10 relevant peer-reviewed publications met inclusion criteria. In combination with 12 grey literature sources, 33 tools were identified. These included self-report tools (typically for children aged 11 years and older), parent-report and teacher-report tools. We identified the six most promising psychosocial assessment tools. However, there was limited description about implementation within school-based nursing programs. CONCLUSIONS Several tools exist that show promise in assisting school-based nursing programs to conduct preliminary psychosocial assessments for children and young people. The introduction of any tools into practice would require implementation guidance and evaluation, including how and when they should be used, and when referral and follow-up is required.

Abstract
In clinical trials of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), clinical outcomes are generally measured using lengthy clinician-administered interviews. However, in routine clinical practice, many clinicians lack the time to administer such instruments. This study evaluated cutoffs for treatment response and remission in OCD using the self-rated Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory-Revised (OCI-R). Data from 349 patients in three clinical trials of cognitive-behavioral therapy for OCD were pooled for analysis. The OCI-R was compared to gold-standard criteria for response and remission based on the clinician-administered Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale and the Clinical Global Impression Scale. The results showed that a ≥40% reduction on the OCI-R was the optimal cutoff for treatment response, with a sensitivity of 0.72 and a specificity of 0.79. For remission status, the optimal cutoff was ≤8 points on the OCI-R, with a sensitivity of 0.57 and specificity of 0.83. Results from additional analyses using the 12-item version of the OCI were similar. These cutoffs provide a simple and time-efficient way to help determine treatment response and remission in OCD when the administration of clinician-administered instruments is unfeasible.

Abstract
Background
Neurofeedback training (NFT) has been shown to be effective in treating several disorders (eg, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder [ADHD], anxiety, and depression); however, little is currently known regarding the effectiveness of remote NFT systems.
Objective
This retrospective study provides real-world data (N=593) to assess the efficacy of app-based remote NFT in improving brain health and cognitive performance.
Methods
Improvement was measured from pre- to postintervention of in-app assessments that included validated symptom questionnaires (the 12-item General Health Questionnaire, the ADHD Rating Scale IV, the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale, the 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale, and the 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire), a cognitive test of attention and executive functioning (ie, continuous performance task), and resting electroencephalography (EEG) markers. Clinically significant improvement was evaluated using standard approaches.
Results
The greatest improvement was reported for the anxiety questionnaire, for which 69% (68/99) of participants moved from abnormal to healthy score ranges. Overall, adult and child participants who engaged in neurofeedback to improve attention and executive functions demonstrated improved ADHD scores and enhanced performance on a cognitive (ie, response inhibition) task. Adults with ADHD additionally demonstrated elevated delta/alpha and theta/alpha ratios at baseline and a reduction in the delta/alpha ratio indicator following neurofeedback.
Conclusions
Preliminary findings suggest the efficacy of app-based remote neurofeedback in improving mental health, given the reduced symptom severity from pre- to postassessment for general psychological health, ADHD, anxiety, and depression, as well as adjusted resting EEG neural markers for individuals with symptoms of ADHD. Collectively, this supports the utility of the in-app assessment in monitoring behavioral and neural indices of mental health.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory-Children's Version (OCI-CV) was developed to assess obsessive-compulsive symptoms in youth. Recent changes in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-5) exclude hoarding from inclusion in the diagnosis of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Accordingly, the present study examined the reliability, validity, factorial structure, and diagnostic sensitivity of a revised version of the scale - the OCI-CV-R- that excludes items assessing hoarding. METHODS Participant were 1047 youth, including 489 meeting DSM criteria for primary OCD, 298 clinical controls, and 260 nonclinical controls, who completed the OCI-CV and measures of obsessive-compulsive symptom severity, depression, and anxiety at various treatment and research centers. RESULTS Findings support a five-factor structure (doubting/checking, obsessing, washing, ordering, and neutralizing), with a higher order factor. Factorial invariance was found for older (12-17 years) and younger (7-11 years) children. Internal consistency of the OCI-CV-R was acceptable, and discriminant and convergent validity were adequate and akin to that of its progenitor. Diagnostic sensitivity and specificity were found for a total score of 8 and higher. CONCLUSION It is recommended that the OCI-CV-R replace the former version, and that this measure serve as part of a comprehensive clinical assessment of youth with OCD. Recommendations for further research with ethnically and racially diverse samples, as well as the need to establish benchmark scores are discussed.

Abstract
This study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Persian version of the Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory-Child Version (OCI-CV) in clinical and community samples. Factor structure (confirmatory factor analysis), validity (convergent/discriminant, and predictive), and reliability (internal consistency, and 4-week retest) of the Persian version of the OCI-CV were investigated in a sample of 391 children and adolescents 7-17 years comprised of two groups: a clinical sample of youth with OCD (n = 62), and a community sample (n = 329). Participants completed the OCI-CV, Multidimensional Anxiety Scale for Children (MASC), Children's Depression Inventory (CDI), and Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL). Similar to the English version of the OCI-CV, the Persian version of the scale demonstrated a stable six-factor structure, good convergent and discriminant validity through its correlations with other specific measures of pediatric psychopathology, acceptable sensitivity and specificity for the detection of OCD, and good reliability in terms of internal consistency and temporal stability. These findings suggest that the OCI-CV is a valid and reliable measure to assess obsessive-compulsive symptom dimensions in Iranian youth. Findings provide cross cultural support on the utility of OCI-CV as a self-report measure of obsessive-compulsive symptomology.

Abstract
While many standardized assessment measures exist to track child mental health treatment outcomes, the degree to which such tools have been adequately tested for reliability and validity across race, ethnicity, and class is uneven. This paper examines the corpus of published tests of psychometric properties for the ten standardized measures used in U.S. child outpatient care, with focus on breadth of testing across these domains. Our goal is to assist care providers, researchers, and legislators in understanding how cultural mismatch impacts measurement accuracy and how to select tools appropriate to the characteristics of their client populations. We also highlight avenues of needed research for measures that are in common use. The list of measures was compiled from (1) U.S. state Department of Mental Health websites; (2) a survey of California county behavioral health agency directors; and (3) exploratory literature scans of published research. Ten measures met inclusion criteria; for each one a systematic review of psychometrics literature was conducted. Diversity of participant research samples was examined as well as differences in reliability and validity by gender, race or ethnicity, and socio-economic class. All measures showed adequate reliability and validity, however half lacked diverse testing across all three domains and all lacked testing with Asian American/Pacific Islander and Native American children. ASEBA, PSC, and SDQ had the broadest testing.

Abstract
Determining response or remission status in body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) usually requires a lengthy interview with a trained clinician. This study sought to establish empirically derived cutoffs to define treatment response and remission in BDD using a brief self-report instrument, the Appearance Anxiety Inventory (AAI). Results from three clinical trials of BDD were pooled to create a sample of 123 individuals who had received cognitive-behavioral therapy for BDD, delivered via the Internet. The AAI was compared to gold-standard criteria for response and remission in BDD, based on the clinician-administered Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale, modified for BDD (BDD-YBOCS), and evaluated using signal detection analysis. The results showed that a ≥ 40% reduction on the AAI best corresponded to treatment response, with a sensitivity of 0.71 and a specificity of 0.84. A score ≤ 13 at posttreatment was the optimal cutoff in determining full or partial remission from BDD, with a sensitivity of 0.75 and a specificity of 0.88. These findings provide benchmarks for using the AAI in BDD treatment evaluation when resource-intensive measures administered by clinicians are not feasible.

Abstract
The study assessed the ability of the Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory-Child Version (OCI-CV) to detect pediatric obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) using receiver operating characteristic analyses. The sample consisted of 114 cases with current OCD, 340 cases with other psychiatric disorders (OPD), and 301 healthy controls (HC) ages 7 to 18 years. All 755 participants were assessed with two semi-structured interviews and seven rating scales. In a comparison of current OCD cases and all other participants, the optimal OCI-CV cut-score was 11 with an area under the curve (AUC) of .88. In a comparison of current OCD cases and OPD cases, the optimal OCI-CV cut-score was 11 with an AUC of .82. In a comparison of current OCD cases and HC, the optimal OCI-CV cut-score was 10 with an AUC of .94. The results indicate that the OCI-CV provides an effective screen for pediatric OCD using empirically derived cut-scores.

Abstract
The aim of this study is to replicate the findings from previous research about the psychometric properties of the Mandarin Chinese version of the Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory-Revised (OCI-R), which assesses the presence of symptoms obsessive-compulsive disorder and the distress associated with those symptoms. The final clinical sample included 80 participants from multiple psychiatric outpatient clinics in China. Participants completed the following questionnaires: the OCI-R, the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21), the Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale-II (Y-BOCS-II), and the Clinical Global Impressions Scale, Severity (CGI-S). The Mandarin Chinese version of the OCI-R demonstrated good internal consistency for the total scale and each subscale. Good convergent and divergent validity was established. The Mandarin Chinese version of the OCI-R demonstrated good psychometric properties. Further research is needed to examine the factor structure of the Chinese version of the OCI-R and the extent to which it aligns with the original version.

Validity and clinical utility of the obsessive compulsive inventory - child version: further evaluation in clinical samples. BMC Psychiatry 2020; 20:42. Abstract
BACKGROUND Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a clinically heterogeneous disorder. Currently, the Obsessive Compulsive Inventory-Child Version (OCI-CV) is the only self-report measure that fully captures this symptom heterogeneity in children and adolescents. The psychometric properties of the OCI-CV are promising but evaluations in large clinical samples are few. Further, no studies have examined whether the measure is valid in both younger and older children with OCD and whether scores on the measure are elevated in youths with OCD compared to youths with other mental disorders. METHODS To address these gaps in the literature, we investigated the psychometric properties and validity of a Swedish version of the OCI-CV in a large clinical sample of youth aged 6-18 years with OCD (n = 434), anxiety disorders (n = 84), and chronic tic disorders (n = 45). RESULTS Internal consistency coefficients at the total scale and subscale level were consistent with the English original and in the acceptable range. Confirmatory factor analyses revealed an adequate fit for the original six-factor structure in both younger and older children with OCD. Correlations between total scores on the OCI-CV and the Children's Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale (CY-BOCS) were small at pre-treatment (r = 0.19) but large at post-treatment (r = 0.62). Youth with OCD scored higher than those with anxiety and chronic tic disorders, and the OCI-CV was sensitive to symptom change for youth undergoing treatment for OCD. CONCLUSIONS This Swedish version of the OCI-CV appears to be a valid and reliable measure of the OCD symptom dimensions across age groups and has good clinical utility.
