Abstract
The fact that antioxidants scavenge free radicals in the human body and naturally treat many health problems that will occur in this way has increased the consumption of antioxidant-containing foods. However, consumption of artificially prepared antioxidants could cause cancer. Therefore, antioxidants from natural sources are preferred. Quercetin is an antioxidant present in natural samples. In this article, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), a polymer composite (PC) consisting of a mixture of 15% (by mass) polystyrene (PST), 15% (by mass) polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and 70% (by mass) polyindole (PIN), and semiconducting BiVO4 were used to prepare electrodes, and then a photosensitive ITO/MWCNTs@PC@BiVO4-based sensor was fabricated for quercetin detection. Quercetin was analyzed via the photosensitive ITO/MWCNTs@PC@BiVO4 sensor in 0.1 M phosphate buffered saline (pH 7.4) solutions including various quercetin concentrations. The constructed quercetin sensor displayed a wide linear response between 10 and 200 μM and a limit of detection of 0.133 μM. The developed photosensitive ITO/MWCNTs@PC@BiVO4 demonstrated a high sensitivity (442 µA mM-1 cm-2), good reproducibility (relative standard deviation 3.6%), high selectivity and long-term stability (>49 days) towards quercetin sensing. The photoelectrochemical sensor was then applied to detection of quercetin in black tea as a real-life sample. Our study could lead to the development of novel photosensitive PC polyphenol sensors.

Abstract
Phenolic compounds (PhCs) are ubiquitously distributed phytochemicals found in many plants, body fluids, food items, medicines, pesticides, dyes, etc. Many PhCs are priority pollutants that are highly toxic, teratogenic, and carcinogenic. Some of these are present in body fluids and affect metabolism, while others possess numerous bioactive properties such as retaining antioxidant and antimicrobial activity in plants and food products. Therefore, there is an urgency for developing an effective, rapid, sensitive, and reliable tool for the analysis of these PhCs to address their environmental and health concern. In this context, carbonaceous nanomaterials have emerged as a promising material for the fabrication of electrochemical biosensors as they provide remarkable characteristics such as lightweight, high surface: volume, excellent conductivity, extraordinary tensile strength, and biocompatibility. This review outlines the current status of the applications of carbonaceous nanomaterials (CNTs, graphene, etc.) based enzymatic electrochemical biosensors for the detection of PhCs. Efforts have also been made to discuss the mechanism of action of the laccase enzyme for the detection of PhCs. The limitations, advanced emerging carbon-based material, current state of artificial intelligence in PhCs detection, and future scopes have also been summarized.

Abstract
Antioxidants are known to exhibit a protective effect against reactive oxygen species (ROS)-related oxidative damage. As a result, inclusion of exogenous antioxidants in the diet has greatly increased. In this sense, detection and quantification of such antioxidants in various food and beverage items are of eminent importance. Monophenols and polyphenols are among the most prominent natural antioxidants. In this regard, biosensors have emerged as a simple, fast, and economical method for determination of such antioxidants. Owing to the fact that majority of the phenolic antioxidants are electroactive, oxidoreductase enzymes are the most extensively availed bioreceptors for their detection. Herein, the different types of oxidoreductases that have been utilized in biosensors for the biorecognition and quantification of natural phenolic compounds commonly present in foods and beverages are discussed. Apart from the most accustomed electrochemical biosensors, this review sheds light on the alternative transduction systems for the detection of phenolic antioxidants. Recent advances in the strategies involved in enzyme immobilization and surface modification of the biosensing platform are analyzed. This review aims to provide a brief overview of the latest developments in biosensor technology for phenolic antioxidant analysis in foodstuffs and future directions in this field.

Abstract
The outstanding electronic properties of carbon black (CB) and its economic advantages have fueled its application as nanostructured electrode material for the development of new electrochemical sensors and biosensors. CB-based electrochemical sensing devices have been found to exhibit high surface area, fast charge transfer kinetics, and excellent functionalization. In the present work, we set forth a comprehensive review of the recent advances made in the development and application of CB-based electrochemical devices for pharmaceutical and biomedical analyses - from quantitative monitoring of drug formulations to clinical diagnoses - and the underlying challenges and constraints that need to be overcome. We also present a thorough discussion about the strategies and techniques employed in the development of new electrochemical sensing platforms and in the enhancement of their analytical properties and biocompatibility for anchoring active biomolecules, as well as the combination of these sensing devices with other materials aiming at boosting the performance and efficiency of the sensors.

Abstract
The oxidation process of 2,6-dimethoxyphenol (2,6-DMP) by laccase from Botryosphaeria rhodina MAMB-05 and the corresponding enzyme-mediator systems was studied using cyclic voltammetry (CV). The enzyme was classified as a high oxidation potential laccase (> 0.70) V vs. NHE) based on its Redox potential at different pHs. The cyclic voltammograms for 2,6-DMP (- 58.7 mV pH-1) showed that its oxidation potential decreased more significantly compared to the enzyme (- 50.2 mV pH-1) by varying the pH. The 2,2'-azino-bis[3-ethyl-benzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid] diammonium salt (ABTS) and 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine 1-oxyl radical (TEMPO) mediators were effectively oxidized by laccase from B. rhodina MAMB-05. The influence of laccase on the comproportionation of ABTS and the ionic step of the oxidation of TEMPO was also studied using CV. A higher potential difference was observed between laccase and the substrate, and correlated with higher enzyme activity. For the laccase-mediator systems, there was no clear correlation of potential difference between laccase and mediators with enzyme activity towards 2,6-DMP. This observation suggests that there are other limiting parameters for enzyme activity despite Redox potential difference, especially during ionic steps of the mechanism.

Abstract
Monitoring phenolic compounds is critical in the environmental, food, and medical sectors. Among many recent advanced detection platforms, laccase-based biosensing platforms gave very rapid, effective, online, and in situ sensing of phenolic compounds. In laccase-based biosensors, laccase immobilization techniques have a vital role. However, a detailing of the advancements in laccase immobilization techniques employed in laccase-based biosensors is lacking in the literature. Thus, in this review, we assessed how the nano-immobilization techniques shaped the laccase biosensing platforms. We discussed novel developments in laccase immobilization techniques such as entrapment, adsorption, cross-linking, and covalent over new nanocomposites in laccase biosensors. We made a comprehensive assessment based on the current literature for future perspectives of nano-immobilized laccase biosensors. We found the important key areas toward which future laccase biosensor research seems to be heading. These include 1. A focus on the development of multi-layer laccase over electrode surface, 2. The need to utilize more covalent immobilization routes, as they change the laccase specificity toward phenolic compounds, 3. The advancement in polymeric matrices with electroconductive properties, and 4. novel entrapment techniques like biomineralization using laccase molecules. Thus, in this review, we provided a detailed account of immobilization in laccase biosensors and their feasibility in the future for the development of highly specific laccase biosensors in industrial, medicinal, food, and environmental applications.
