Abstract
Microvascular invasion (MVI) diagnosis relies on postoperative pathological examinations, underscoring the urgent need for a novel diagnostic method. C-Reactive Protein (CRP), has shown significant relevance to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) prognosis. This study aims to explore the relationship between preoperative serum CRP levels and microvascular invasion in hepatocellular carcinoma and develop a nomogram model for predicting MVI. Patients were categorized into MVI-positive and MVI-negative groups for analysis. Serum CRP levels were compared between the two groups. And then use LASSO regression to screen variables and build a nomogram. CRP levels showed significant differences between the MVI-positive and MVI-negative groups. Multivariable logistic regression analysis identified CRP (OR = 4.85, P < 0.001), lnAFP (OR = 3.11, P < 0.001), WBC count (OR = 2.73, P = 0.003), and tumor diameter (OR = 2.38, P = 0.01) as independent predictors of MVI. A nomogram based on these variables showed good predictive performance in both the training and validation cohorts with dual validation. The clinical prediction nomogram model, which includes serum CRP levels, WBC count, tumor diameter, and serum AFP levels, showed good performance in predicting MVI in both the training and validation cohorts.

Abstract
Purpose This study aims to explore the prognostic values of routine pre-treatment hematological parameters in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Methods The hematological parameters and clinical data of patients with NPC were collected from January 2012 to December 2013 at Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. The survival statistics were obtained by regularly following-up the patients. The cut-off values for the hematological parameters were calculated using X-tile software. SPSS version 24.0 was used for the statistical analysis. The relationship between the hematological parameters and the prognosis of patients with NPC was analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier method and Cox multivariate regression. The discriminating abilities of the factors, which predict the prognosis, were evaluated by utilizing the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) area under the curve (AUC). Results This study included 179 patients with NPC. Multivariate analysis shows that pretreatment platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR; hazard ratio; HR = 0.44, 95% CI [0.21-0.91], p = 0.029), serum albumin (ALB; HR = 2.49, 95% CI [1.17-5.30], p = 0.018), and globulin (GLO; HR = 0.44, 95% CI [0.21-0.90], p = 0.024) are independent predictors for 5-year overall survival (OS) in patients with NPC. In addition, pre-treatment PLR (HR = 0.47, 95% CI [0.25-0.90], p = 0.022) and pre-treatment GLO (HR = 0.37, 95% CI [0.19-0.72], p = 0.001) are associated with 5-year progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with NPC. Based on the results of the multivariate analysis, we proposed a new biomarker GLO-PLR, which is observably correlated with the T stage, N stage and clinical stage in patients with NPC. The OS resolving ability of the GLO-PLR evaluated by AUC is 0.714, which is better than those of GLO and PLR. The PFS resolving ability of the GLO-PLR evaluated by AUC was 0.696, which is also better than those of GLO and PLR. Conclusion Pre-treatment PLR, ALB, and GLO are independent predictors of 5-year OS in patients with NPC, where PLR and GLO are also independent predictors of 5-year FPS. Compared with other hematological parameters, the proposed GLO-PLR is an inexpensive, effective, objective, and easy-to-measure marker for predicting the prognosis of NPC.

Abstract
Background: Recent studies have demonstrated that the tumor microenvironment, known to be influenced by inflammatory cells, plays a crucial role in cancer progression and clinical outcome of patients. The objective of the present study was to investigate prognostic values of preoperative neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) for disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) of uterine sarcoma patients. Methods: Ninety-nine patients with uterine sarcoma treated in eight multicenter institutions over the last 20 years were retrospectively analyzed. Curves of DFS and OS were calculated using the Kaplan–Meier method, and univariate and multivariate analyses of various prognostic factors were performed using a Cox proportional hazard regression model. Results: High NLR was significantly associated with worse DFS (p = 0.007) and OS (p = 0.039). Advanced stage (p = 0.017) and high mitotic index (p = 0.036) retained their prognostic significance for DFS. Other clinical variables, including PLR, CA125, and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) failed to show significant impact. Conclusions: Our findings showed that an elevated preoperative NLR was associated with poor clinical outcome in uterine sarcoma patients. Our results suggest that high NLR in early-stage uterine sarcoma patients might indicate that such patients need more intensive treatments.

Abstract
Patients with advanced cancer often undergo myelosuppression after receiving chemotherapy. However, severe myelosuppression results in treatment delay, and some can even be life-threatening. At present, cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy urgently need effective intervention strategies to prevent myelosuppression. Fortunately, ginsenoside Rg3 has shown promise as an anti-myelosuppression agent. Therefore, this study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of ginsenoside Rg3 in preventing chemotherapy-induced myelosuppression in cancer patients. The PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Weipu (VIP), and Wanfang databases were searched in this study. A total of 18 trials which reported on 2,222 subjects were identified. All trials concerning the use of ginsenoside Rg3 for the prevention of chemotherapy-induced myelosuppression (the decline of leukocyte, hemoglobin, platelet, and neutrophil counts) were randomized-controlled trials. Dichotomous data were expressed as odds ratio (OR) with their respective 95% confidence intervals (CI). The Cochrane evidence-based medicine systematic evaluation was used to evaluate the methodological quality of the included trials. The Review Manager 5.3 and Stata 12.0 software were used to perform the statistical analyses. The trial sequential analysis (TSA) was used to evaluate information size and prevention benefits. The results revealed obvious ginsenoside Rg3-induced improvement in the leukocyte (OR, 0.46; 95% CI, 0.37–0.55), hemoglobin (OR, 0.64; 95% CI, 0.53–0.77), platelet (OR, 0.60; 95% CI, 0.48–0.75) and neutrophil (OR, 0.62; 95% CI, 0.43–0.90) counts at toxic grades I–IV, and leukocyte (OR, 0.39; 95% CI, 0.28–0.54) counts at toxic grades III–IV. The sensitivity analysis revealed that the results were robust. The Egger’s test indicated that there was no publication bias in the results. Overall, this study suggested that ginsenoside Rg3 is beneficial for alleviating the chemotherapy-induced decrease in leukocyte, hemoglobin, platelet, and neutrophil counts. However, the confirmation of the ginsenoside Rg3 can be recommended for myelosuppression patients was limited due to poor methodological quality. Thus, more rigorously designed randomized-controlled trials (RCTs) are required to assess the efficacy of ginsenoside Rg3 for myelosuppression.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of low doses of l-arginine supplementation on hemogram, integrity of DNA and spleen, inflammatory infiltrate in the jejunum, and in the coagulogram of rats submitted to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) chemotherapy. METHODS Thirty-two Wistar rats were fed commercial feed and water ad libitum and grouped into four (eight rats per group): The control group was given a 0.9% physiologic solution to simulate the application of 5-FU in the other groups; the G5-FU group was given a dose of 5-FU; the GArg50 and GArg100 groups were given a dose of 5-FU and supplemented with 50 and 100 mg l-arginine/d added in the drinking water ad libitum. RESULTS The rats in the GArg50 group did not lose weight after chemotherapy. GArg50 rats presented polycythemia owing to dehydration caused by diarrhea generated by 5-FU. GArg100 rats had increased total leukocyte count, eosinophils, lymphocytes, and index in the total index of DNA damage, yet showed a reduction in prothrombin time and in the spleen depletion index. Rats in the G5-FU, GArg50, and GArg100 groups had similar moderate inflammatory infiltrate in the jejunum. CONCLUSION Supplementation with 100 mg/d of l-arginine minimized immunosuppression, spleen depletion, and prothrombin time and contributed to the breakdown of 5-FU-generated DNA in Wistar rats. Supplementation with 50 mg/d of l-arginine decreased the weight loss generated by 5-FU in Wistar rats. Supplements with 50 or 100 mg of l-arginine did not interfere with 5-FU-generated jejunal inflammatory infiltrate.

Abstract
Setting For now, hematological markers of inflammatory response have emerged as prognostic factors for patients with cancer. Many articles have confirm that neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio(NLR) and platelet–lymphocyte ratio (PLR) are relate with poor prognosis in various types of tumors. Objective To investigate the association between NLR/PLR and progression free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS) and clinicopathologic parameters in lung cancer patients. Design We performed relevant searches in PubMed database, Google Scholar, Springer Link. We included retrospective cohort studies that reported hazard ratios with 95% confidence intervals for the NLR or PLR and PFS or OS. Results Both high NLR (P < 0.00001) and high PLR (P = 0.01) were significantly predictive of poorer OS. It also demonstrated that elevated NLR predicted poorer PFS (P = 0.0002). High NLR was significantly associated with deeper Invasive of tumor, (P = 0.006) extensive lymph nodetastasis(N2–3) (P = 0.01), poor differentiation (P = 0.0002) and vascular invasion(P = 0.002). There was no evidence of publication bias. Subgroup analysis indicated that little evidence of heterogeneity. However, PLR has no prognostic significance for SCLC. Conclusions We provides further evidence in support of elevated NLR and PLR were predictors of poor OS and PFS in patients with lung cancer. Given this, NLR and PLR may be markers to report treatment outcomes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pretreatment hematological markers of inflammatory response have emerged as prognostic factors for patients with cancer. In this study, we evaluated the prognostic significance of various hematologic parameters in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). METHODS Clinical data from 251 patients with NPC were retrospectively collected. Neutrophil counts, lymphocyte counts, platelet counts, neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) were adopted as potential prognostic biomarkers. The Kaplan-Meier method and log-rank test were adopted to calculate and compare the progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) rates. The Cox proportional hazards model was used to carry out univariate and multivariate analyses. RESULTS NLR ≥2.7 (hazard ratio [HR] = 2.01; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.23-3.29; p = .005) and PLR ≥167.2 (HR = 2.12; 95% CI = 1.35-3.33; p = .001) were significantly associated with shorter PFS, whereas PLR ≥163.4 (HR = 2.64; 95% CI = 1.25-5.60; p = .011) was correlated with poor OS. Abstract
To assess the impact of patient-related factors, including genetic variability in genes involved in the metabolism of chemotherapeutic agents, on breast cancer-specific survival (BCSS) and recurrence-free interval (RFI). We selected early breast cancer patients treated between 2000 and 2010 with 4-6 cycles of (neo-)adjuvant 5-fluorouracil, epirubicin, and cyclophosphamide (FEC) or 3 cycles FEC followed by 3 cycles docetaxel. Tumor stage/subtype; febrile neutropenia and patient-related factors such as selected single nucleotide polymorphisms and baseline laboratory parameters were evaluated. Multivariable Cox regression was performed. Of 991 patients with a mean follow-up of 5.2 years, 152 (15.3 %) patients relapsed and 63 (6.4 %) patients died. Advanced stage and more aggressive subtype were associated with poorer BCSS and RFI in multivariable analysis (p < 0.0001). Associations with worse BCSS in multivariable analysis were: homozygous carriers of the rs1057910 variant C-allele in CYP2C9 (hazard ratio [HR] 30.4; 95 % confidence interval [CI] 6.1-151.5; p < 0.001) and higher white blood cell count (WBC) (HR 1.2; 95 % CI 1.0-1.3; p = 0.014). The GT genotype of the ABCB1 variant rs2032582 was associated with better BCSS (HR 0.5; 95 % CI 0.3-0.9, p = 0.021). Following associations with worse RFI were observed: higher WBC (HR 1.1; 95 % CI 1.0-1.2; p = 0.026), homozygous carriers of the rs1057910 variant C-allele in CYP2C9 (HR 10.9; 95 % CI 2.5-47.9; p = 0.002), CT genotype of the CYBA variant rs4673 (HR 1.8; 95 % CI 1.2-2.7; p = 0.006), and G-allele homozygosity for the UGT2B7 variant rs3924194 (HR 3.4; 95 % CI 1.2-9.7, p = 0.023).
