Abstract
Nanosized sodium bismuth perovskite titanate (NBT) was synthesized and first used as the electrochemical immune sensing platform for the sensitive detection of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA). Gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) grew on the surface of NBT through forming Au-N bond to obtain Au@NBT, and a label-free electrochemical immunosensor was proposed using Au@NBT as an immunosensing recognizer towards CEA. The well-ordered crystal structure of NBT was not changed at all after the modification of Au NPs outside, but significantly improved the conductivity, catalytic activity, and biocompatibility of the Au@NBT-modified electrode. The unique cubic crystal nanostructure of NBT offered a large active area for both Au NP modification and the subsequent immobilization of biomolecules over the electrode surface, triggering the effective generation of promising properties of the proposed Au@NBT-based electrochemical immunosensor. As expected, favorable detection performances were achieved using this immunosensor towards CEA detection, where a good linear relationship between the current response and CEA concentration was obtained in the concentration range 10 fg mL-1 to 100 ng mL-1 with a low detection limit (LOD) of 13.17 fg mL-1. Also, the significantly enhanced selectivity, and stability guaranteed the promising electrochemical properties of this immunosensor. Furthermore, the analysis of real serum samples verified the high feasibility of this new method in clinical CEA detection. This work opens a new window for the application of nanoperovskite in the early detection of CEA.

Abstract
The effective applications of electrochemiluminescence (ECL) across various fields necessitate ongoing research into novel luminophores and ECL strategies. In this study, self-luminous flower-like nanocomposites (Eu-tcbpe-MOF) were prepared by coordination self-assembly using the aggregation-induced emission material 1,1,2,2-tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)ethylene (H4TCBPE) and Eu(III) ions as the precursors. Compared with the monomers and aggregates of H4TCBPE, Eu-tcbpe-MOF exhibits stronger ECL emission. Such enhanced electrochemiluminescence is due to coordination as the coordination-triggered electrochemiluminescence (CT-ECL) enhancement effect. In this study, a cubic-structured nanocomposite (Co9S8@Au@MoS2) was used as an efficient quencher, and a more sensitive ECL detection platform was achieved by two quenching mechanisms: resonance energy transfer and competitive consumption of coreactants. N,N-Diethylethanolamine (DBAE) was used as a coreactant, and DBAE has a faster electron transfer rate and stronger energy supply efficiency than the traditional anodoluminescent coreactant tripropylamine, which effectively improves the ECL signal intensity of Eu-tcbpe-MOF. Hence, a sandwich-type ECL immunosensor was prepared by employing a dual-quenching mechanism, utilizing Eu-tcbpe-MOF as the detection probe and Co9S8@Au@MoS2 as the quencher, achieving precise detection of carcinoembryonic antigen from 0.1 pg·mL-1 to 100 ng·mL-1 with a detection limit of 35.1 fg·mL-1.

Abstract
Cytokeratin 19 fragment antigen 21-1 (CYFRA21-1) is a protein fragment dissolved in the blood after apoptosis of lung epithelial cells, which is a predictive biomarker for the diagnosis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Detection of serum CYFRA21-1 has a significant clinical value in diagnosis, monitoring and prognosis of NSCLC. Herein, a novel electrochemical immunosensor was constructed for the sensitive detection of CYFRA21-1. First, superconductive carbon black (KB) functionalized polyethyleneimine (PEI)-gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were covered on the surface of methylene blue (MB) and used as substrate materials to immobilize the CYFRA21-1 antibody. Then, target CYFRA21-1 was successfully detected using an electrochemical immunosensor through specific recognition of antigen and antibody. The zirconium-based metal organic framework of PCN-222(Fe) with a large pore size and three-dimensional (3D) structure can absorb abundant AuNPs through strong electrostatic interaction, which enhances the conductive properties of PCN-222(Fe) and prevents the self-aggregation of AuNPs. However, PCN-222(Fe) with peroxidase-like activity can catalyze the generation of hydroxyl free radicals (˙OH) from H2O2, which oxidized MB, leading to a decrease in the current signal. The signal response to the degradation of MB was recorded using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). This indirect method of immunosensor offered a new strategy to address the limitations imposed by the poor conductivity of PCN-222(Fe), further enabling the amplification of the signal through the oxidative degradation of MB. Compared with traditional electrochemical immunosensors, this method has the advantages of a stable current signal and good reproducibility, providing a promising reference for the broad application of PCN-222(Fe) in electrochemical biosensors.

Abstract
Ultrasensitive determination of tumor marker (TM) is of great significance in cancer prevention and diagnosis. Traditional TM detection methods involve large instrumentation and professional manipulation, which complicate the assay procedures and increase the cost of investment. To resolve these problems, an integrated electrochemical immunosensor based on the flexible polydimethylsiloxane/gold (PDMS/Au) film with Fe-Co metal-organic framework (Fe-Co MOF) as a signal amplifier was fabricated for ultrasensitive determination of alpha fetoprotein (AFP). First, gold layer was deposited on the hydrophilic PDMS film to form the flexible three-electrode system, and then the thiolated aptamer for AFP was immobilized. Afterward, the aminated Fe-Co MOF possessing high peroxidase-like activity and large specific surface area was prepared by a facile solvothermal method, and subsequently the biofunctionalized MOF could effectively capture biotin antibody (Ab) to form MOF-Ab as a signal probe and amplify the electrochemical signal remarkably, thereby realizing highly sensitive detection of AFP with a wide linear range of 0.01-300 ng/mL and a low detection limit of 0.71 pg/mL. In addition, the PDMS based-immunosensor showed good accuracy for assaying of AFP in clinical serum samples. The integrated and flexible electrochemical immunosensor based on the Fe-Co MOF as a signal amplifier demonstrates great potential for application in the personalized point-of-care (POC) clinical diagnosis.

Abstract
Photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensing is an emerging technological innovation for monitoring small substances/molecules in biological or non-biological systems. In particular, there has been a surge of interest in developing PEC devices for determining molecules of clinical significance. This is especially the case for molecules that are markers for serious and deadly medical conditions. The increased interest in PEC sensors to monitor such biomarkers can be attributed to the many apparent advantages of the PEC system, including an enhanced measurable signal, high potential for miniaturization, rapid testing, and low cost, amongst others. The growing number of published research reports on the subject calls for a comprehensive review of the various findings. This article is a review of studies on electrochemical (EC) and PEC sensors for ovarian cancer biomarkers in the last seven years (2016-2022). EC sensors were included because PEC is an improved EC; and a comparison of both systems has, expectedly, been carried out in many studies. Specific attention was given to the different markers of ovarian cancer and the EC/PEC sensing platforms developed for their detection/quantification. Relevant articles were sourced from the following databases: Scopus, PubMed Central, Web of Science, Science Direct, Academic Search Complete, EBSCO, CORE, Directory of open Access Journals (DOAJ), Public Library of Science (PLOS), BioMed Central (BMC), Semantic Scholar, Research Gate, SciELO, Wiley Online Library, Elsevier and SpringerLink.

Abstract
Exosomes are extracellular vesicles that exist in body circulation as intercellular message transmitters. Although the potential of tumor-derived exosomes for non-invasive cancer diagnosis is promising, the rapid detection and effective capture of exosomes remains challenging. Herein, a portable electrochemical aptasensor of cubic AuPt dendritic nanocrystals (AuPt DNs)/Ti3C2 assisted in signal amplification, and aptamer CD63 modified graphene oxide (GO) was immobilized on a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) as the substrate materials for the direct capture and detection of colorectal carcinoma exosomes. Cubic AuPt DNs/Ti3C2 was synthesized according to a simple hydrothermal procedure, and the AuPt DNs/Ti3C2-Apt hybrid demonstrated an efficient recognition of exosomes. Under optimal conditions, a detection limit of down to 20 exosomes µL-1 was achieved with the linear range from 100 exosomes μL-1 to 5.0 × 105 exosomes μL-1. The proposed immunosensor could be suitable for the analysis of exosomes and has clinical value in the early diagnosis of cancer.

Abstract
Avian influenza virus H9 subtype (AIV H9) has contributed to enormous economic losses. Effective diagnosis is key to controlling the spread of AIV H9. In this study, a nonenzymatic highly electrocatalytic material was prepared using chitosan (Chi)-modified graphene sheet (GS)-functionalized Au/Pt nanoparticles (GS-Chi-Au/Pt), followed by the construction of a novel enzyme-free sandwich electrochemical immunosensor for the detection of AIV H9 using GS-Chi-Au/Pt and graphene-chitosan (GS-Chi) nanocomposites as a nonenzymatic highly electrocatalytic material and a substrate material to immobilize capture antibodies (avian influenza virus H9-monoclonal antibody, AIV H9/MAb), respectively. GS, which has a large specific surface area and many accessible active sites, permitted multiple Au/Pt nanoparticles to be attached to its surface, resulting in substantially improved conductivity and catalytic ability. Au/Pt nanoparticles can provide modified active sites for avian influenza virus H9-polyclonal antibody (AIV H9/PAb) immobilization as signal labels. Upon establishing the electrocatalytic activity of Au/Pt nanoparticles on graphene towards hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) reduction for signal amplification and optimizing the experimental parameters, we developed an AIV H9 electrochemical immunosensor, which showed a wide linear range from 101.37 EID50 mL-1 to 106.37 EID50 mL-1 and a detection limit of 100.82 EID50 mL-1. This sandwich electrochemical immunosensor also exhibited high selectivity, reproducibility and stability.

Abstract
Quercetin (QR), abundant in plants, is used to treat colitis and gastric ulcer and is also a promising anticancer agent. To quantificationally detect QR, a sensitive electrochemical sensor was fabricated by palladium nanoparticles loaded on carbon sphere @ molybdenum disulfide nanosheet core-shell composites (Cs@MoS2-Pd NPs). The Cs@MoS2-Pd NPs worked to remedy the shortcomings of MoS2 and exhibited good catalytic activity to QR. The oxidation reaction of QR on Cs@MoS2-Pd NPs/GCE involved two electrons and two protons. Furthermore, the molecular surface for electrostatic potential, Laplacian bond order, and Gibbs free energy were computationally simulated to speculate the order and site of the oxidation of QR. The results showed that the 4′ O–H and 3′ O–H broke successively during the oxidation reaction. When the concentration of QR was within 0.5 to 12 μM, the fabricated sensor could achieve linear detection, and the detection limit was 0.02 μM (S/N = 3). In addition, the sensor possessed good selectivity, repeatability, and stability, which has a broad prospect in practical application.

Abstract
Signal amplification is crucial to improve the sensitivity for the electrochemical detection of cardiac troponin I (cTnI), one of the ideal biomarkers for early acute myocardial infarction (AMI) diagnosis. Herein, we developed a novel signal amplification strategy to construct a sandwich-type electrochemical aptasensor for the detection of cTnI. Core-shell Pd@Pt dendritic bimetallic nanoparticles loaded on melamine modified hollow mesoporous carbon spheres (Pd@Pt DNs/NH2-HMCS) was prepared as labels to conjugate with thiol-modification DNA aptamers probe for signal amplification. While introducing numerous amino groups, the melamine functionalized hollow mesoporous carbon spheres (NH2-HMCS) retained the edge-plane-like defective sites for the adhesion and electrocatalytic reduction of H2O2. With the unique characteristics of NH2-HMCS, it not only enhanced the dispersity and loading capacity of core-shell Pd@Pt dendritic bimetallic nanoparticles (Pd@Pt DNs), but also improved the stability of bonding by the affinity interaction between Pd@Pt DNs and amino groups of melamine. Meanwhile, the synergistic catalysis effect between Pd@Pt DNs and NH2-HMCS significantly enhanced the electrocatalytic reduction of H2O2 and further amplified the signal. Under optimal conditions, this recommended aptasensor for cTnI detection displayed a wide dynamic range from 0.1 pg/mL to 100.0 ng/mL and a low detection limit of 15.4 fg/mL (S/N = 3). The sensor also successfully realized the analysis of cTnI-spiked human serum samples, meaning potential applications in AMI diagnosis.

Abstract
The urge to meet the ever-growing needs of sensing technology has spurred research to look for new alternatives to traditional analytical methods. In this scenario, the glucometer is the flagship of commercial electrochemical sensing platforms, combining selectivity, reliability and portability. However, other types of enzyme-based biosensors seldom achieve the market, in spite of the large and increasing number of publications. The reasons behind their commercial limitations concern enzyme denaturation, and the high costs associated with procedures for their extraction and purification. In this sense, biomimetic materials that seek to imitate the desired properties of natural enzymes and biological systems have come out as an appealing path for robust and sensitive electrochemical biosensors. We herein portray the historical background of these biomimicking materials, covering from their beginnings until the most impactful applications in the field of electrochemical sensing platforms. Throughout the discussion, we present and critically appraise the major benefits and the most significant drawbacks offered by the bioinspired systems categorized as Nanozymes, Synzymes, Molecularly Imprinted Polymers (MIPs), Nanochannels, and Metal Complexes. Innovative strategies of fabrication and challenging applications are further reviewed and evaluated. In the end, we ponder over the prospects of this emerging field, assessing the most critical issues that shall be faced in the coming decade.

Abstract
The detection of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) has increasingly received a great deal of attention considering its significance in cancer diagnosis. And the signal amplification plays an important role in the development of sensitive ctDNA biosensors. Herein, the nanocomposites (denoted as HAC-AuPt), integrating from high-active carbon (HAC) and AuPt alloy nanoparticles, were synthesized and subsequently used as a signal amplification label to fabricate a sandwich-type ctDNA electrochemical biosensor. Characterizations demonstrated that HAC presents uniform size distribution and AuPt alloy nanoparticles were successfully loaded on HAC. The current response could be amplified to a great extent by the resultant HAC-AuPt due to its excellent electrochemical property. The nanocomposites were further bounded with DNA signal probes (SPs) via Au-S or Pt-S assembly to form SPs-label. After the capture probes (CPs) were immobilized on the electrode surface, the target DNA (tDNA) and SPs-label were stepwise incubated on the CPs-modified electrode, thus forming a sandwich-type structure. By monitoring the catalytic signal of HAC-AuPt towards the reduction process of H2O2, this biosensor provided a wide linear range of 10-8 mol/L - 10-16 mol/L with a low detection limit of 3.6 × 10-17 mol/L (S/N = 3) for the detection of the tDNA. Furthermore, obvious differences in response signals among different DNAs were observed benefitting from the excellent selectivity of the biosensor. Besides, the long-term stability, reproducibility, and recovery rate were proved to be outstanding. These results indicate that the established biosensor holds a potential application in the clinical diagnosis of ctDNA.

Abstract
Polyoctopamine (POct), an amine-functionalised non-conducting polymer, as the transducer layer in an electrochemical biosensor, is presented. This polymer offers versatile covalent coupling either through thiol linker conjugation, carboxyl or aldehyde functional groups without the requirement of pre- or post-surface activation. The colorectal cancer biomarker carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) was selected as the target analyte, whilst an antibody and a synthetic binding protein, an Affimer, were used as distinct bioreceptors to demonstrate the versatility of polyoctopamine as a transducer polymer layer for oriented immobilisation of the bioreceptors. The electrodeposited polymer layer was characterised using cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and on-sensor chemiluminescent blotting. The performance of optimised POct-based biosensors were tested in spiked human serum. Results showed that the electropolymerisation of octopamine on screen printed gold electrode generates a thin polymer film with low resistance. Close proximity of the immobilised bioreceptors to the transducer layer greatly enhanced the sensitivity detection. The sensitivity of the smaller monomeric bioreceptor (Affimer, 12.6 kDa) to detect CEA was comparable to the dimeric antibody (150 kDa) with limit of detection at 11.76 fM which is significantly lower than the basal clinical levels of 25 pM. However, the Affimer-based sensor had a narrower dynamic range compared to the immunosensor (1-100 fM vs. 1 fM - 100 nM, respectively). All electrochemical measurements were done in less than 5 min with small sample volumes (10 μl). Hence, polyoctopamine features a simple fabrication of impedimetric biosensors using amine-functionalisation technique, provides rapid response time with enhanced sensitivity and label-free detection.

Abstract
Accurate detection of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) has a pivotal role in the metastasis monitoring and prognosis of tumor. In this work, an ultrasensitive electrochemical cytosensor was developed based on excellent electrocatalytic materials and a dual recognition strategy. Herein, novel branched PtAuRh trimetallic nanospheres (b-PtAuRh TNS) were synthesized for the first time by a facile one-pot method, which had a huge specific surface area and outstanding catalytic activity. B-PtAuRh TNS linked with aptamers targeting mucin1 (MUC1) were served as signal tags to amplify the signal. As electrode modified material, the nanocomposites of Cabot carbon black (BP2000) and AuNPs were used to improve the electron transfer efficiency of electrode. In addition to using b-PtAuRh TNS labeled anti-MUC1 aptamers as signal probes, anti-EpCAM antibodies were worked as capture probes to achieve dual recognition of target cells. In other words, only cells expressing both MUC1 and EpCAM could produce electrochemical signal. The constructed cytosensor presented a wide linear range (5 - 1 × 106 cells mL-1) and a low detection limit (1 cell mL-1). It was worth noting that the proposed cytosensor could detect CTCs in clinical blood samples. To sum up, the developed cytosensor might become a promising detection platform for cancer diagnosis and tumor metastasis.

Abstract
The content of cardiac troponin I (CTnI) in human blood is the key factor in judging acute myocardial infarction (AMI). In order to detect the content of CTnI, we constructed a sandwich-type electrochemical immunosensor based on hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as a signal source. Dendritic platinum-copper alloy nanoparticles (DPCN) loaded on molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanosheets (DPCN/MoS2) as secondary antibodies (Ab2) label provided signal amplification. The hollow three-dimensional (3D) pyramid-shaped structure of DPCN exposed abundant active sites and exhibited excellent catalytic properties. MoS2 nanosheets with flower-like structure and a larger specific surface area can effectively load more DPCN. The combination of MoS2 and DPCN enhanced the catalytic performance of DPCN/MoS2 towards H2O2 reduction and realized signal amplification. For the substrate material, the two-dimensional (2D) metal-organic framework (Co-BDC, 1,4-benzenedicarboxylate is abbreviated as BDC) was hybridized with MoS2 nanosheets to load gold nanoparticles (Au NPs). The obtained Au/Co-BDC/MoS2 had low catalytic activity and excellent electrical conductivity, which was used to load primary antibodies (Ab1) to effectively enhance the sensitivity. Under the best conditions, we constructed the immunosensor with the detection range of 10 fg/mL to 100 ng/mL and the limit of detection (LOD) of 3.02 fg/mL. At the same time, the content of CTnI in human serum was tested with satisfactory results. Therefore, the constructed immunosensor has important significance in the sensitive and accurate detection of CTnI and early diagnosis of AMI.

Abstract
Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is an important broad-spectrum tumor marker. The quantitative detection of a low concentration of CEA has important medical significance. In this study, three-dimensional porous graphene-oxide-supported platinum metal nanoparticles (3DPt/HGO) composites were prepared by a wet chemical method and modified on an electrode with enhanced conductivity, a large surface area, and good adsorption of immobilizing antibodies (Ab1). Horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-functionalized Au nanoparticles were fabricated to label the secondary antibodies (Ab2). The proposed immunosensor showed a good linear relationship in the range of 0.001–150 ng/mL for CEA and a detection limit of 0.0006 ng/mL. The immunosensor had high sensitivity, good stability and reproducibility, and has great application prospects for the clinical diagnosis of cancer.

Abstract
Beta-lactoglobulin is a natural milk protein and the main cause of infant milk allergy. In this work, a sensitive, selective and inexpensive electrochemical biosensor for the detection of β-lactoglobulin was developed. In this sensor, a DNA aptamer was used instead of an expensive antibody as the recognition group highly selective for β-lactoglobulin. The flower-like BiVO4 microspheres were firstly found to have peroxidase mimic catalytic activity and used to amplify the electrochemical signal. The aptamer can bind β-lactoglobulin and fall off from the working electrode, after which the DNA2/Au/BiVO4 probe can be fixed to the DNA1/AuNPs/ITO working electrode by the hybridization of DNA2 with DNA1. Therefore, a higher concentration of β-lactoglobulin leads to increased fabrication of the DNA2/Au/BiVO4 probe on the surface of the working electrode, and thereby increases the electrochemical signal. This electrochemical biosensor exhibited a wide detection range from 0.01 to 1000 ng mL-1, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.007 ng mL-1, which indicates a good potential application in the field of food analysis.

Abstract
Cardiac troponin I (cTnI) and creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB) are important diagnostic biomarkers for acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Many efforts have been undertaken to develop highly sensitive detection methods for the quantitative analysis of these dual targets. However, current immunoassay methods are inadequate for accurate measurement of cTnI and CK-MB, due to their limited detection sensitivity. Thus, there is still an urgent demand for a new technique that will enable ultrahigh sensitive detection of these biomarkers. In this study, we developed a surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS)-based sandwich immunoassay platform for the ultrasensitive detection of cTnI and CK-MB. In this study, a monoclonal-antibody-immobilized gold-patterned chip was used as a SERS active template. Target samples and polyclonal-antibody-conjugated Au@Ag core-shell nanoparticles were then added. Using this SERS platform, the concentration of biomarkers could be quantified by monitoring the characteristic Raman peak intensity of Raman reporter molecules. Under optimized conditions, the limits of detection (LODs) were estimated to be 8.9 pg mL-1 and 9.7 pg mL-1 for cTnI and CK-MB, respectively. Thus, the proposed SERS-based immunoassay has great potential to be an effective diagnostic tool for the rapid and accurate detection of cTnI and CK-MB.

Abstract
Diacetoxyscirpenol (DAS) is a type A trichothecene mycotoxin with low molecular weight, and with respect to its toxicity and the occurrence in food and feed, it is known as a potential risk for public and animal health. In the present study, first, a sensitive and specific monoclonal antibody (5E7) was developed. Then, the antibody was applied to develop a competitive-type pressure-dependent immunosensor (CTPDI). The Au@PtNP was synthesized and labeled with goat antimouse antibody (Au@PtNPs-IgG). Finally, the concentration of DAS was negatively correlated with the pressure signal. In the presence of optimal conditions, matrix-matched calibration curves were plotted for wheat samples, in which an optimal IC50 value (half maximal inhibitory concentration) of 3.08 ng/g was achieved. The CTPDI was further applied to detect natural and blind wheat samples, and validation was carried out by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The results showed that CTPDI was highly appropriate and accurate for detection of DAS in wheat.

Abstract
A new type of nanocomposite composed of carboxylated single-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs-COOH), reduced graphene oxide (rGO), bovine serum albumin-Ag hybride (Ag@BSA), and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) was fabricated to develop an ultrasensitive electrochemical platform for the detection of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) as a model of biomarkers. Two steps are involved for the fabrication of the organic/inorganic nanocomposites. The Ag@BSA nanoflowers were first synthesized to be doped with CNTs-COOH and rGO followed by the adsorption of PEDOT resulting in CNTs-COOH/rGO/Ag@BSA/PEDOT. The as-prepared nanocomposites were then deposited onto an Au electrode together with subsequent immobilization of CEA antibody (anti-CEA) to construct the electrochemical immunosensor. This unique structure and composition of the developed immunosensor can expect an excellent electrochemical response. The immunosensor offers a linear relationship between the electrochemical responses and the CEA concentrations from 0.002 to 50 ng∙mL-1 with a detection limit of 1 × 10-4 ng∙mL-1. Moreover, the ultrasensitive immunoassay can detect CEA in real human serum samples, and the results are comparable to those obtained from the commercial ELISA. Therefore, this strategy can monitor diseases, offer clinical diagnosis, and may be valuable for the development of new biomedical devices.

Abstract
The combination of supramolecular chemistry and nanotechnology has potentially applied in the construction of biosensors, and thus improves the analytical performance and robustness of electron devices. Herein, a new sandwich-type DNA sensor was constructed for ultrasensitive determination of hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA, a recognized marker for chronic hepatitis B. The water-soluble pillar[5]arene stabilized Pd NPs combined with reduced graphene oxide nanosheet (WP5-Pd/RGO) was synthesized and employed as supporting material for the modification of electrode surface. The probe DNA was immobilized onto the electrode surface through a new strategy based on the host-guest interaction between WP5 and methylene blue labeled DNA (MB-DNA). Moreover, MOF-derived cobalt sulfide nanobox was prepared to anchor the hydroxylatopillar[5]arene stabilized Au NPs (HP5-Au/CoS), which had superior electrocatalytic performance towards H2O2 reduction to achieve signal amplification. Under the optimized conditions, the proposed sensor displayed a linear relationship between amperometric currents and the logarithm of tDNA solution from 1 × 10-15 mol/L to 1 × 10-9 mol/L, and a low detection limit of 0.32 fmol/L. What's more, the DNA sensor had remarkable behaviors of stability, reproducibility, specificity, and accuracy, which provided a potential and promising prospect for clinical diagnosis and analysis.

Abstract
Early cancer diagnosis and treatment are crucial research fields of human health. One method that has proven efficient is biomarker detection which can provide real-time and accurate biological information for early diagnosis. This review presents several biomarker sensors based on electrochemistry, surface plasmon resonance (SPR), nanowires, other nanostructures, and, most recently, metamaterials which have also shown their mechanisms and prospects in application in recent years. Compared with previous reviews, electrochemistry-based biomarker sensors have been classified into three strategies according to their optimizing methods in this review. This makes it more convenient for researchers to find a specific fabrication method to improve the performance of their sensors. Besides that, as microfabrication technologies have improved and novel materials are explored, some novel biomarker sensors-such as nanowire-based and metamaterial-based biomarker sensors-have also been investigated and summarized in this review, which can exhibit ultrahigh resolution, sensitivity, and limit of detection (LoD) in a more complex detection environment. The purpose of this review is to understand the present by reviewing the past. Researchers can break through bottlenecks of existing biomarker sensors by reviewing previous works and finally meet the various complex detection needs for the early diagnosis of human cancer.

Abstract
By employment of an aptamer-initiated hybridization chain reaction (HCR) to enhance the enzyme biomineralization of cupric subcarbonate, this work develops a novel colorimetric biosensing method for protein analysis. The HCR product was used to specifically attach a large amount of urease-functionalized gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) for the preparation of a gold nanoprobe. After the sandwich biorecognition reactions, this nanoprobe could be quantitatively captured onto the antibody-functionalized magnetic bead (MB) platform. Then, numerous copper ions would be enriched onto the MB surface through the urease-induced biomineralization of cupric subcarbonate. Based on the complete release of Cu2+ ions for the sensitive copper chromogenic reaction, convenient colorimetric signal transduction was thus achieved for the quantitative analysis of the target analyte of the carcinoembryonic antigen. The HCR product provides a large number of biotin sites for the attachment of Au NP nanotags. The biomineralization reaction of high-content urease loaded onto Au NPs leads to highly efficient Cu2+ enrichment for signal amplification. So this method features excellent performance including a very wide linear range and a low detection limit down to 0.071 pg mL-1. In addition, the satisfactory results of real sample experiments reveal that this method possesses huge potential for practical applications.

Abstract
An electrochemical biosensor was proposed utilizing an improved amplification strategy for the rapid detection of sulfamethazine (as a model target) in aquatic environments. In this competitive immunoassay, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide-capped gold nanoparticles (CTAB-AuNPs) were used as a signal amplifier and electrode matrix and coated with an antigen-antibody (Cag-Ab1) specific binding system as a recognition unit for the target compound. In addition, silver nanoparticle labels were functionalized with dendritic fibrous nanosilica (DFNS@AgNPs) and decorated onto chitosan/single walled carbon nanohorn (CS/SWCNH)-modified glass carbon electrodes (GCEs), which improved the electron transfer rate and increased the surface area, enabling more coating antigens to be captured. Under acidic conditions, massive amounts of the Ag+ bound to the surface of the AuNPs dissolved, and consequently, formed Ag+@CTAB-AuNP complexes, which resulted in a distinctly improved peroxidase-like activity and enhanced current response. Furthermore, the destroyed Ab1-Ab2-DFNS conjugation greatly decreased the impedance, bringing about the amplification of the electrochemical signals. After optimization of the parameters, the proposed approach exhibited excellent performance, including good sensitivity (LOD, 0.0655 ng/mL) and satisfactory accuracy (recoveries, 79.02%-118.39%; CV, 3.18%-9.82%), which indicates the great potential of this strategy for the rapid detection of trace pollutants in the environments.

Abstract
Simultaneous detection of multiple tumor biomarkers in body fluids could facilitate early diagnosis of lung cancer, so as to provide scientific reference for clinical treatment. This paper depicted a multi-parameter paper-based electrochemical aptasensor for simultaneous detection of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and neuron-specific enolase (NSE) in a clinical sample with high sensitivity and specificity. The paper-based device was fabricated through wax printing and screen-printing, which enabled functions of sample filtration and sample auto injection. Amino functional graphene (NG)-Thionin (THI)- gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and Prussian blue (PB)- poly (3,4- ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT)- AuNPs nanocomposites were synthesized respectively. They were used to modify the working electrodes not only for promoting the electron transfer rate, but also for immobilization of the CEA and NSE aptamers. A label-free electrochemical method was adopted, enabling a rapid simple point-of-care testing. Experimental results showed that the proposed multi-parameter aptasensor exhibited good linearity in ranges of 0.01-500 ng mL-1 for CEA (R2 = 0.989) and 0.05-500 ng mL-1 for NSE (R2 = 0.944), respectively. The limit of detection (LOD) was 2 pg mL-1 for CEA and 10 pg mL-1 for NSE. In addition, the device was evaluated using clinical serum samples and received a good correlation with large electrochemical luminescence (ECL) equipment, which would offer a new platform for early cancer diagnostics, especially in those resource-limit areas.

Abstract
Early detection of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is of great significance for the screening, diagnosis, monitoring and prognosis analysis of lung cancer. Herein, a novel fluorescence aptasensor with high signal-noise ratio (SNR) was constructed to achieve highly-sensitive detection of CEA relied upon the fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) between near-infrared carbon dots (NIR-CDs) and gold nanorods (AuNRs). Initially, AuNRs@SiO2-Aptamer and NIR-CDs-DNA probe were prepared via the covalent bonding reaction between their corresponding carboxyl and amino groups, respectively. After DNA hybridization, the aptasensor was formed, meanwhile, the fluorescence of NIR-CDs was quenched by AuNRs@SiO2. Once CEA encountered the aptasensor, it would selectively combine with CEA aptamer to unwind the preformed DNA double-strand architecture thereby resulting in the NIR-CDs-DNA detach from the surface of AuNRs@SiO2. The attendant fluorescence recovery of NIR-CDs was linearly correlated with the concentration of CEA. According to this relationship, the NIR-CDs based "turn on" sensing system was constructed and exhibited prominent responses toward CEA in the concentration range of 0.1-5000 pg/mL and a relatively low detection limit (0.02 pg/mL). Moreover, it displayed high specificity against other biomarkers or proteins, good reproducibility and acceptable accuracy regarding human pleural effusion samples.

Abstract
A sensitive sandwich-type electrochemical immunosensor was established by employing Au@Pt core-shell multi-branched nanoparticles, and thionin functionalized nitrogen/sulfur co-doped graphene oxide (N/S-cGO/L-lys/Au@Pt MBs/Thi) as a double signal label to detect cardiac troponin I (cTnI). In this work, Au nanorods functionalized polydopamine (Au NR@PDA) with high adsorption capacity and superior electroconductivity can provide an efficient substrate for immobilizing primary antibodies (Ab1). In the proposed N/S-cGO/L-lys/Au@Pt MBs/Thi, an electrochemically active molecule, Thi was covalently bonded in the N/S-cGO/L-lys/Au@Pt MBs. It presented a strong differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) current signal without electron transfer mediators, and showed a high electrocatalytic activity toward H2O2 reduction by using amperometric i-t (i-t). Impressively, with the synergistic effect of N/S-cGO/L-lys/Au@Pt MBs/Thi and Au NR@PDA, the developed dual-mode electrochemical immunosensor for cTnI detection showed a wide linear concentration range (50 fg/mL to 250 ng/mL, 750 fg/mL to 100 ng/mL) and a low detection limit (16.7 fg/mL, 250 fg/mL) via i-t and DPV, respectively. Furthermore, this immunosensor exhibited acceptable reproducibility, high sensitivity and good stability under optimal conditions. More importantly, the satisfactory results were obtained in detection of cTnI-spiked human serum samples, and the presented method may be a promising application in clinical bioanalysis.
