Abstract
A series of new heteroleptic oxovanadium(IV) complexes with the general formula [VOL1-6(Dcf)] (1-6), where L1-6 = thiosemicarbazone (TSC)-based ligands and Dcf = diclofenac have been synthesized and characterized. The spectral studies along with the density functional theory calculations evidenced the distorted square-pyramidal geometry around oxovanadium(IV) ion through imine nitrogen and thione sulfur atoms of TSC moiety, and two asymmetric carboxylate oxygen atoms of diclofenac drug. The complexes were evaluated for in vitro antioxidant activity using 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS), 2,2'-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and superoxide radical scavenging assays with respect to the standard antioxidant drugs butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and rutin. The in vitro antidiabetic activity of the complexes was tested with enzymes such as α-amylase, α-glucosidase and glucose-6-phosphatase. The complexes containing methyl substituent showed higher activity than that containing the nitro substituent due to the electron-donating effect of methyl group. The in silico molecular docking studies of the oxovanadium(IV) complexes with α-amylase and α-glucosidase enzymes showed strong interaction via hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interactions. The dynamic behavior of the proposed complexes was analyzed by molecular dynamics (MDs) simulations, which revealed the stability of docked structures with α-amylase and α-glucosidase enzymes. The in silico physicochemical and pharmacokinetics parameters, such as Lipinski's 'rule of five', Veber's rule and absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME) properties predicted non-toxic, non-carcinogenic and safe oral administration of the synthesized complexes.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma.

Abstract
New Pb(II), Mn(II), Hg(II), and Zn(II) complexes, derived from 4-(4-chlorophenyl)-1-(2-(phenylamino)acetyl)thiosemicarbazone, were synthesized. The compounds with general formulas, [Pb(H2L)2(OAc)2]ETOH.H2O, [Mn(H2L)(HL)]Cl, [Hg2(H2L)(OH)SO4], and [Zn(H2L)(HL)]Cl, were characterized by physicochemical and theoretical studies. X-ray diffraction studies showed a decrease in the crystalline size of compounds that were exposed to gamma irradiation (γ-irradiation). Thermal studies of the synthesized complexes showed thermal stability of the Mn(II) and Pb(II) complexes after γ-irradiation compared to those before γ–irradiation, while no changes in the Zn(II) and Hg(II) complexes were observed. The optimized geometric structures of the ligand and metal complexes are discussed regarding density functional theory calculations (DFT). The antimicrobial activities of the ligand and metal complexes against several bacterial and fungal stains were screened before and after irradiation. The Hg(II) complex has shown excellent antibacterial activity before and after γ-irradiation. In vitro cytotoxicity screening of the ligand and the Mn(II) and Zn(II) complexes before and after γ-irradiation disclosed that both the ligand and Mn(II) complex exhibited higher activity against human liver (Hep-G2) than Zn(II). Molecular docking was performed on the active site of MK-2 and showed good results.

Abstract
The new ruthenium (III) complex has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, UV-Vis, EI-Mass, EPR spectroscopy, and magnetic susceptibility measurement. Cytotoxic effects of organoruthenium (II/III) complexes 1a, 1b, and 2a, and their ligands (TSC1 and TSC2) in cultured human ovarian (A2780, SKOV-3, and OVCAR-3) and colon (DLD, CCD18Co, and Caco-2) cells have been investigated comparing reactivity of the Ru (II/III) complexes and their free TSC ligands. The complexes exhibit higher cytotoxicity in three cancer cell lines than in normal cells. The binding with CT-DNA and BSA of the all complexes were weak compared with their ligand in spite of the cellular uptake of these complexes into the cytoplasm and then nucleus while their cytotoxic effects were vice versa. All the results showed that Complex 1b has more efficient cytotoxicity on the colon cancer cells than ovarian cancer cells. However, Complex 2a is a better drug candidate especially for antitumor therapy of metastasized ovarian cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND l-Arginine is a semi-essential aminoacid with important role in regulation of physiological processes in humans. It serves as precursor for the synthesis of proteins and is also substrate for different enzymes such as nitric oxide synthase. This amino-acid act as free radical scavenger, inhibits the activity of pro-oxidant enzymes and thus acts as an antioxidant and has also bactericidal effect against a broad spectrum of bacteria. RESULTS New thiazolidine-4-one derivatives of nitro-l-arginine methyl ester (NO2-Arg-OMe) have been synthesized and biologically evaluated in terms of antioxidant and antibacterial/antifungal activity. The structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed by (1)H, (13)C NMR, Mass and IR spectral data. The antioxidant potential was investigated using in vitro methods based on ferric/phosphomolybdenum reducing antioxidant power and DPPH/ABTS radical scavenging assay. The antibacterial effect was investigated against Gram positive (Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, Sarcina lutea ATCC 9341) and Gram negative (Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853) bacterial strains. The antifungal activity was also investigated against Candida spp. (Candida albicans ATCC 10231, Candida glabrata ATCC MYA 2950, Candida parapsilosis ATCC 22019). CONCLUSIONS Synthesized compounds showed a good antioxidant activity in comparison with the NO2-Arg-OMe. The antimicrobial results support the selectivity of tested compounds especially on P. aeruginosa as bacterial strain and C. parapsilosis as fungal strain. The most proper compounds were 6g (R = 3-OCH3) and 6h (R = 2-OCH3) which showed a high free radical (DPPH, ABTS) scavenging ability and 6j (R = 2-NO2) that was the most active on both bacterial and fungal strains and also it showed the highest ABTS radical scavenging ability.Graphical abstract1: ethyl 3-aminopropionate hydrochloride, 2a-j: aromatic aldehydes, 3: thioglycolic acid, 4a-j: thiazolidine-propionic acid derivatives , 5: Nω-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester hydrochloride, 6a-j: thiazolidine-propionyl-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester derivatives.

Abstract
A one-pot, three-component, microwave assisted and conventional synthesis of new 3-(4-chloro-2-hydroxyphenyl)-2-(substituted) thiazolidin-4-one (4a-n) was carried out by using N,N-dimethylformamide as a solvent with high product yield. Among these synthesized compounds (4f, 4g, 4l and 4m) were found to be a broad spectrum molecule active against all bacterial and fungus strains tested, except fungus Aspergillus niger. Amongst the compounds (4g, 4l and 4m) were found to be more potent than respective standard drugs used in the experiment against Candida albicans, Staphylococcus aureus and Aspergillus flavus, respectively. All synthesized compounds were also tested for their cytotoxic activity against HeLa and MCF-7 cell lines by the sulforhodamine B (SRB) assay. This study shows that all compounds were non-cytotoxic in nature, and confirmed their antimicrobial specificity apart from any general cytotoxicity.

Abstract
In the title mol-ecule, C27H30N4O2S·C3H7NO, the fused piperidine and cyclo-hexane rings adopt a twin chair conformation and the phenyl groups occupy equatorial sites. The phenyl rings make a dihedral angle of 40.74 (2)°. In the crystal, the di-methyl-formamide solvent mol-ecule is connected to the main mol-ecule by an N-H⋯O hydrogen bond. An additional N-H⋯O hydrogen bond connects mol-ecules into chains along [100]. Pairs of weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds connect inversion-related chains. The ethyl group was refined as disordered over two sets of sites with an occupancy ratio of 0.660 (17):0.340 (17).

Abstract
As a part of our ongoing studies in developing new derivatives as dual antimicrobial/anti-inflammatory agents we describe the synthesis of novel 5-arylidene-2-(1,3-thiazol-2-ylimino)-1,3-thiazolidin-4-ones. All newly synthesized compounds were tested for their anti-inflammatory activity using carrageenan mouse paw edema bioassay. Their COX-1/LOX inhibitory activities were also determined. Moreover, all compounds were evaluated for their antimicrobial and antifungal activities against a panel of Gram positive, Gram negative bacteria and moulds. All tested compounds exhibited better antimicrobial activity than commercial drugs, bifonazole, ketoconazole, ampicillin and streptomycin.

Abstract
Four new thiocarbonyl fluorobenzamides and their complexes with cobalt have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR, and (1)H NMR. Five crystal structures of the thioylbenzamides complexes of Co(PTCB)(3), Co(2FPTCB)(3), Co(4FPTCB)(3), Co(2FMTCB)(2) and Co(4FMTCB)(3) have been determined by X-ray diffraction. The antibacterial properties of these compounds against the bacteria, E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, B. subtilis, P. aeruginosa, and Shewanella sp. were investigated. The experiments showed that both compounds and the complexes had the antibacterial activities against all of the studied bacteria. The thioylbenzamides had stronger controls for the bacteria of E. coli, S. aureus, B. subtilis and P. aeruginosa than their corresponding cobalt complexes. There was the contrary result against the bacteria of Shewanella sp. The para-substitution of fluorine atom increased antibacterial activities, while fluorine atom was substituted on ortho-benzoyl, the antibacterial activity weakened. The thioylbenzamides linked to piperidine instead of a morpholine group may increase the antibacterial activities.

Abstract
Thiazolidinone is considered as a biologically important active scaffold that possesses almost all types of biological activities. Successful introduction of ralitoline as a potent anti-convulsant, etozoline as a antihypertensive, pioglitazone as a hypoglycemic agent and thiazolidomycin activity against streptomyces species proved potential of thiazolidinone moiety. This diversity in the biological response profile has attracted the attention of many researchers to explore this skeleton to its multiple potential against several activities. This review is complementary to earlier reviews and aims to review the work reported on various biological activities of thiazolidinone derivatives from year 2000 to the beginning of 2011. Data are presented for active compounds, some of which have passed the preclinical testing stage.

[(n-Bu)Sn(2Ac4oClPh)Cl2] (1), [(n-Bu)Sn(2Ac4oFPh)Cl2] (2), [(n-Bu)Sn(2Ac4oNO2Ph)Cl2] (3), [(n-Bu)Sn(2Bz4oClPh)Cl2] (4), [(n-Bu)Sn(2Bz4oFPh)Cl2] (5) and [(n-Bu)Sn(2Bz4oNO2Ph)Cl2] (6) were obtained by reacting [(n-Bu)SnCl3] with 2-acetylpyridine-N4-orthochlorophenyl thiosemicarbazone (H2Ac4oClPh), 2-acetylpyridine-N4-orthofluorphenyl thiosemicarbazone (H2Ac4oFPh), 2-acetylpyridine-N4-orthonitrophenyl thiosemicarbazone (H2Ac4oNO2Ph), and with the corresponding 2-benzoylpyridine-derived thiosemicarbazones (H2Bz4oClPh, H2ABz4oFPh and H2Bz4oNO2Ph). The antifungal activity of the studied compounds was evaluated against several Candida species. Upon coordination of H2Bz4oNO2Ph to tin in complex (6) the antifungal activity increased three times against Candida albicans and Candida krusei and six times against Candida glabrata and Candida parapsilosis. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of H2Ac4oNO2Ph and its complex (3) against C. albicans, C. parapsilosis and C. glabrata are similar to that of fluconazole. All studied compounds were more active than fluconazole against C. krusei.

Abstract
Imidazole/benzotriazole analogues substituted piperidin-4-one derivatives (17-26) have been synthesized. Their chemical structures were characterized by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and mass spectral analysis. In addition, single crystal X-ray diffraction has also been recorded for compounds 21 and 23. The synthesized compounds were subjected to their in vitro antibacterial and antifungal activities against pathogenic microbial strains. The results pointed out that compounds 19 & 24 against B. subtilis and 20 & 24 against E. coli were explored superior inhibition activity.
