Abstract
The ultraviolet (UV) and high-energy visible blue (HEVB) light can cause damage to the eyes and skin. In this study, a cellulose composite film with UV and HEVB light shielding properties was prepared through the incorporation of a shielding agent into a carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) solution. The shielding agent was synthesized through a Schiff base reaction between vanillin (VA) and 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APS). The composite films exhibited excellent shielding performance against UV and HEVB light and maintained high visible light transmittance. Additionally, the films achieved shielding ratios of 100 % for UV (200 to 400 nm) and 93 % for HEVB (400 to 450 nm), respectively. Even under prolonged UV irradiation, the composite films maintained excellent shielding stability. The composite films exhibited higher performance in blocking UV and HEVB light than commercial shielding films. Moreover, the composite films achieved 100 % antibacterial efficiency against both Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, even with minimal amounts of the shielding agent. Furthermore, the films exhibited significant improvements in thermal stability, oxidation resistance, and mechanical properties. The multifunctional UV and HEVB shielding films have broad potential applications in food packaging, anti-UV/HEVB radiation display screens, and mobile phone screens.

Abstract
An electro- and optically favorable quaternary nanocomposite film was produced by solution-casting nickel oxide nanoparticles (NiO NPs) into polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP), and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT/PSS). Based on transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) observations, the synthesized NiO NPs have a cubic phase and a diameter between 10 and 45 nm. The complexity and interactions observed through XRD patterns, UV-visible spectra, and FTIR measurements suggest that the NPs are not just dispersed within the polymer matrix, but are interacting with it, leading to enhanced dielectric properties and AC electrical conductivity. From 9 × 103 to 3.22 × 103 Ω, NiO NPs concentrations reduce bulk resistance Rb, indicating more linked conductive channels. The dielectric tests showed that polarized nanoparticles increased polarizability under electric field conditions. The incorporation of NiO NPs boosted DC conductivity from 1.25 × 10-6 to 5.64 × 10-5 S m-1. The mobility of NiO NPs boosts DC conductivity linearly with field frequency. These interactions can lead to improved electrical conductivity, energy storage capabilities, and overall efficiency of the nanocomposite, making it a promising material for various applications.

Abstract
Lightweight, flame retardant biomass aerogels combining with multi-functionalities are promising for thermal insulation, noise absorption and smart sensors. However, high flammability hinders the application of these aerogels in extreme condition. Herein, lightweight, flame retardant aerogel with fire-warning properties fabricated from resource-abundant graphite and green carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) is reported. During sonicating expandable graphite (EG) in CMC solution, CMC not only fabricates the downsizing process via hydrogen bonding effect but also forms stable dispersions. Then biomass aerogel is fabricated by freeze-drying strategy and enhanced by metal ionic cross-linking method. This aerogel demonstrates Janus properties for electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity. Due to the synergistic flame retardant effect of graphite nanocomposite and metal ions with a barrier effect and catalytic carbonization capacity, the flame retardancy of these aerogels are enhanced with fire-warning properties. Furthermore, these aerogels are used for monitoring physical deformations as smart sensors, which provides inspiration and a sustainable solution for developing low-cost biomass aerogel with multifunction.

Abstract
A composite film (CMC/PEI) consisting of anionic carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and cationic polyethyleneimine (PEI) can be easily produced through the solution casting method using self-assembly based on electrostatic interaction and hydrogen bonding. Subsequently, the resulting CMC/PEI polyelectrolyte composite film with a network structure was crosslinked with divalent Cu2+ ions through ionic and coordination bonds, resulting in a strengthened Cu(II)@CMC/PEI film. The composite film was characterized based on its structural, surface, thermal, UV protection, antibacterial, and degradation aspects. The results demonstrated this film has impressive mechanical properties, remarkable solvent resistance, good antibacterial properties, and excellent UV-shielding performance by completely blocking ultraviolet light with wavelengths below 360 nm. These properties can be attributed to the presence of Cu2+ ions and PEI in the film. This work is valuable for the development of novel UV-shielding materials and should contribute to the design of carboxymethylcellulose composite films with desirable properties and exceptional performance.

Abstract
Cellulose, an abundant and eco-friendly polymer, is a promising raw material to be used for preparing energy storage devices such as lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Despite the significance of cellulose functional groups in LIBs components, their structure-properties-application relationship remains largely unexplored. This article thoroughly reviews the current research status on cellulose-based materials for LIBs components, with a specific focus on the impact of functional groups in cellulose-based separators. The emphasis is on how these functional groups can enhance the mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties of the separators, potentially replacing conventional non-renewal material-derived components. Through a meticulous investigation, the present review reveals that certain functional groups, such as hydroxyl groups (-OH), carboxyl groups (-COOH), carbonyl groups (-CHO), ester functions (R-COO-R'), play a crucial role in improving the mechanical strength and wetting ability of cellulose-based separators. Additionally, the inclusion of phosphoric group (-PO3H2), sulfonic group (-SO3H) in separators can contribute to the enhanced thermal stability. The significance of comprehending the influence of functional groups in cellulose-based materials on LIBs performance is highlighted by these findings. Ultimately, this review explores the challenges and perspectives of cellulose-based LIBs, offering specific recommendations and prospects for future research in this area.

Abstract
An effective strategy was demonstrated to design an electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding paper via a facile surface treatment on paper. TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanofibers (TOCN) were first integrated with Ti3C2Tx MXene, and subsequently cast onto a filter paper with cationic guar gum (CGG) in a sequential way. TOCN and CGG generated a self-assembling hydrogel and formed a MXene-containing hydrogel film on top of the filter paper. The hydrogel film enhanced the tensile strength (9.49 MPa) of composite paper, and resulted in a 17 % increase as compared to the control. The composite paper containing 80 mg MXene (namely, 2.07 mg·cm-2) showed a conductivity of 3843 S·m-1 and EMI shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) of 49.37 dB. Furthermore, the 2-layer assembled TC-M 80 hydrogel composite paper achieved an EMI SE of 73.99 dB. Importantly, this composite paper showed higher EMI SE and lower thickness than a lot of reported materials. The presence of TOCN and CGG also protected MXene against several solvents and the incorporation of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) further improved the durability of the composite paper. This work provides a novel and simple strategy to design robust, ultrathin and flexible EMI shielding materials, and it might also inspire other work in paper-based functional materials.

Abstract
A novel and eco-friendly intumescent flame-retardant system based on sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) was established for wide-used flexible polyurethane foams (FPUFs). FPUF-(APP6CMC1)GN1 with extremely uniform coatings extinguished and reached the UL-94 V-0 rating, and presented an improvement of thermal insulation properties. Moreover, there was a 58 % reduction in peak heat release rate for FPUF-(APP6CMC1)GN1 compared with that of FPUF, and the microstructure analysis of char residues indicated that a perfect intumescent char layer had formed on the surface of FPUFs. Especially, CMC and GN enhanced the compactness and stability of char layers. Therefore, little volatile production was generated under the protection of physical layers in the high temperature as evaluated during the thermal degradation processes. Meanwhile, the flame-retardant FPUFs remained the ideal mechanical properties and obtained excellent antibacterial properties, and the antibacterial rates of E.coli and S.aureus were 99.9 % (FPUF-(APP6CMC1)GN1). This work provides an eco-friendlier strategy for the design of multi-function FPUFs.

Abstract
In tissue engineering, the potential of re-growing new tissue has been considered, however, developments towards such clinical and commercial outcomes have been modest. One of the most important elements here is the selection of a biomaterial that serves as a "scaffold" for the regeneration process. Herein, we designed hydrogels composed of two biocompatible natural polymers, namely gelatin with photopolymerizable functionalities and a pectin derivative amenable to direct protein conjugation. Aiming to design biomimetic hydrogels for bone regeneration, this study proposes double-reinforcement by way of inorganic/biopolymer hybrid filling composed of Si-based compounds and cellulose nanofibers. To attain networks with high flexibility and elastic modulus, a double-crosslinking strategy was envisioned-photochemical and enzyme-mediated conjugation reactions. The dual cross-linked procedure will generate intra- and intermolecular interactions between the protein and polysaccharide and might be a resourceful strategy to develop innovative scaffolding materials.

Abstract
This study aims to improve the thermal stability and mechanical properties of carboxymethyl bacterial cellulose (CMBC) composite films. Experiments were conducted by preparing bacterial cellulose (BC) into CMBC, then parametrically mixing sodium alginate/starch/xanthan gum/gelatin and glycerin/sorbitol/PEG 400/PEG 6000 with CMBC to form the film. Scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffractometry, infrared spectroscopy, mechanical tests, and thermogravimetric analysis showed that the composite films had better mechanical properties and thermal stability with the addition of 1.5% CMBC (% v/v), 1% sodium alginate, and 0.4% glycerin. Tensile strength was 38.13 MPa, the elongation at break was 13.4%, the kinematic viscosity of the film solution was 257.3 mm2/s, the opacity was 4.76 A/mm, the water vapor permeability was 11.85%, and the pyrolysis residue was 45%. The potential causes for the differences in the performance of the composite films were discussed and compared, leading to the conclusion that CMBC/Sodium alginate (SA)/glycerin (GL) had the best thermal stability and mechanical properties.

In this study, a novel type of high-strength regenerated cellulose composite fiber reinforced with cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs) and nanosilica (nano-SiO2) was prepared. Adding 1% CNF and 1% nano-SiO2 to pulp/AMIMCl improved the tensile strength of the composite cellulose by 47.46%. The surface of the regenerated fiber exhibited a scaly structure with pores, which could be reduced by adding CNF and nano-SiO2, resulting in the enhancement of physical strength of regenerated fibers. The cellulose/AMIMCl mixture with or without the addition of nanomaterials performed as shear thinning fluids, also known as "pseudoplastic" fluids. Increasing the temperature lowered the viscosity. The yield stress and viscosity sequences were as follows: RCF-CNF2 > RCF-CNF2-SiO22 > RCF-SiO22 > RCF > RCF-CNF1-SiO21. Under the same oscillation frequency, G' and G" decreased with the increase of temperature, which indicated a reduction in viscoelasticity. A preferred cellulose/AMIMCl mixture was obtained with the addition of 1% CNF and 1% nano-SiO2, by which the viscosity and shear stress of the adhesive were significantly reduced at 80 °C.
