Abstract
This research presents a new approach to facilely fabricating a multifunctional film using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as the base material. The film is modified chemically to incorporate various desirable properties such as high transparency, UV-shielding, antibacterial activity, and fluorescence. The fabrication process of this film is straightforward and efficient. The modified film showed exceptional UV-blocking capability, effectively blocking 100% of UV radiation. It also exhibits strong antibacterial properties. Additionally, the film emitted bright blue fluorescence, which can be useful in various optical and sensing applications. Despite the chemical modification, the film retained the excellent properties of PVA, including high transparency (90%) at 550 nm and good mechanical strength. Furthermore, it demonstrated remarkable stability even under harsh conditions such as exposure to long-term UV radiation, extreme temperatures (-40 or 120 °C), or immersion in different solvents. Overall, this work showcases a promising strategy to develop versatile, structurally stable, transparent, and flexible polymer films with multiple functionalities. These films have potential applications in various fields that require protection, such as packaging materials, biomedical devices, and optical components.

Abstract
In this study, amine vapor-sensitive films with ratiometric fluorescence attributes were developed. The pH-sensitive fluorescein 8-hydroxypyrene-1,3,6-trisulfonic acid trisodium salt (HPTS) and its tetraphenylethylene derivative (TPB) were selected as ratiometric indicators and incorporated into a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) matrix to produce HPTS/TPB-PVA films. The films responded well to amine vapors, and the interference of aromatic vapors did not substantially affect the fluorescence signals of the films. Under UV light at a wavelength of 365 nm, the fluorescence of the films changed from dark pink to light pink and finally to yellow when the freshness of the fish was visually checked during storage. In addition, the color difference values of the films showed a positive correlation with the total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N), ranging from 12.7 to 24.8 mg/100 g at 25 °C and 8.4 to 25.6 mg/100 g at 4 °C, respectively. This indicates that fluorescent films have good potential for quantifying fish freshness in the near future when connected to an automatic data processing system based on color differences.

Facile fabrication of adenosine triphosphate/chitosan/polyethyleneimine coating for high flame-retardant lyocell fabrics with outstanding antibacteria. Int J Biol Macromol 2024; 260:129599. Abstract
Addressing highly flammable and easily breeding bacteria property via environmentally friendly approach was critical for the large-scale application of lyocell fibers. Herein, a bio-based coating constructed by layer-by-layer deposition of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), chitosan (CS), and polyethyleneimine (PEI) was successfully fabricated to obtain excellent fire-resistant and antimicrobial lyocell fabrics (LBL/Lyocell). The resulted fabrics with add-on of 11.5 wt% achieved the limiting oxygen index (LOI) of 32.0 %. Meanwhile, compared with the pure lyocell fabrics, the peak of heat release rate (PHRR), total heat release (THR), and fire growth rate (FIGRA) of LBL/Lyocell fabrics decreased by 75.2 %, 61.0 % and 69.8 % in cone calorimetric test (CCT), respectively. By characterizing the gaseous products and solid residues, the presence of the ATP/CS/PEI coating could not only quickly form the dense expanded carbon layer by itself, but also promote the conversion of cellulose into thermal-stability residues, thus reducing the release of combustible substances during combustion and protecting the lyocell fabrics. In addition, LBL/Lyocell showed excellent antimicrobial properties with 99.99 % antibacterial rates against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Escherichia coli (E. coli). This bio-based coating was a promising candidate for efficiently flame-retardant cellulose fibers with excellent antibacteria.

Abstract
Personal health monitoring is very important for the health operation of special populations, like newborns and the old. But how to construct a sensor that can achieve real-time monitoring without the need for an external power supply still faces serious challenges. In this paper, a flexible, breathable and self-powered sensor based on triboelectric nanogenerators (TENG) was designed. Silk fibroin (SF) and poly (vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) fiber membranes were prepared by electro-spinning, and a u-shaped circuit was sprayed on one side of the fiber membrane as the electrode. Separating by an elastic silicone ring of the two fiber membranes, the all-fiber and self-powered sensor with a simple structure, good stability, and high output performance was developed. The as prepared sensor can instantly light up hundreds of LEDs by hand tapping. The sensor prepared in this work may have some potential applications in wearable devices and energy systems for real-time monitoring of abdominal breathing.

Abstract
The design of flame-retardant cellulose fabrics suffered from deterioration on wearing performance and environmental issue. Here, we developed facile construction of bio-based high fire-safety cellulose fabrics (lyocell) that exploited the bio-based flame-retardant coating (APD) by adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and dicyandiamide (DCD) via ionic reaction. The rich phosphorus/nitrogen elements of APD enabled the excellent fire safety of APD/Lyocell. Specifically, the APD/Lyocell2 had a higher limiting oxygen index (LOI) value of 29.3 %, a lower peak of heat release rate (PHRR, decreasing by 66.6 %), and a reduced total heat rate (THR, lowered by 56.5 %) with respect to pure lyocell fabrics. Interestingly, the APD/Lyocell2 exhibited well flame-retardant durability via passing the vertical burning test after 100 rubs. The satisfactory flame-retardant behaviors of APD/Lyocell derived from the excellent synergistic effect on the gaseous-solid phases, where APD could release more non-flammable gasses and generate phosphoric acid, polyphosphoric acid, etc. to accelerate itself and cellulose dehydration into char residues during combustion. More importantly, the wearing performance of APD/Lyocell fabrics, such as handle, air permeability and tensile strength, etc. almost remained after treatment. The ease of operation and use of bio-based coating made it a promising option to obtain the practical lyocell fabrics with flame-retardancy.

Abstract
This study aims to prepare natural biomass-based nonionic antimicrobial polymers with excellent biocompatibility, nonleachability, antimicrobial activity, and polymer miscibility. Two new cellulose-based nonionic antimicrobial polymers (MIPA and MICA) containing many terminal indole groups were synthesized using a sustainable one-pot method. The structures and properties of the nonionic antimicrobial polymers were characterized using nuclear magnetic resonance hydrogen spectroscopy (1H NMR), infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), wide-angle X-ray diffractometry (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), gel chromatography (GPC), and other analytical techniques. The results showed that microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) molecules combined with indole derivatives through an esterification reaction to produce MICA and MIPA. The crystallinity of the prepared MICA and MIPA molecules decreased after MCC modification; their morphological structure changed from short fibrous to granular and showed better thermal stability and solubility. The paper diffusion method showed that both nonionic polymers had good bactericidal effects against the two common pathogenic bacteria Escherichia coli (E. coli, inhibition zone diameters >22 mm) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus, inhibition zone diameters >38 mm). Moreover, MICA and MIPA showed good miscibility with biodegradable poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), and the miscible cellulose-based composite films (PVA-MICA and PVA-MIPA) showed good phase compatibility, light transmission, thermal stability (maximum thermal decomposition temperature >300 °C), biocompatibility, biological cell activity (no cytotoxicity), nonleachability, antimicrobial activity, and mechanical properties (maximum fracture elongation at >390%).

Abstract
Self-healing hydrogels have received considerable attention as a promising material for flexible electronic devices given their mechanical durability and structurally tunable properties. In this study, a highly stretchable self-healing hydrogel with dual cross-linking network was developed via borate ester bonds generated by polyvinyl alcohol and borax, and acylhydrazone bonds formed by aldehyde nanocellulose with adipic acid dihydrazide-modified alginate. Compared with the single network hydrogel composed of polyvinyl alcohol and borax, the introduction of dynamic acylhydrazone bonds greatly increases the flexibility of the hydrogel. The elongation rate increased from 480 % to approximately 1440 %, and the self-healing efficiency increased from 84.6 % to 92.7 % after healing for 60 min at ambient temperature without any stimulus. Moreover, the longer the self-healing time, the more evident the self-healing effect of the acylhydrazone bonds. In addition, electrical measurements confirmed a wide working strain range (ca.1000 %), durability, and reliability. Once assembled as a strain sensor, the hydrogel is able to monitor both large and subtle human motions. Besides, this hydrogel exhibited desirable biocompatibility, as demonstrated by in vitro cytotoxicity towards NIH 3T3 cells. These integrated properties make this nanocomposite hydrogel a promising candidate for future applications as green, flexible, and smart sensors.
