Photoinitiated addition of thiols to 2-deoxy-exo-glycals obtained from endo-glycals of d-arabino, d-lyxo, d-erythro and d-threo configurations resulted in highly regio- and stereoselective formation of glycosylmethyl sulfide type glycomimetics.

Photoinitiated hydrothiolation of pyranoid exo-glycals: the d-galacto and d-xylo cases

Radical-mediated addition reactions of thiols to O-peracetylated exo-galactal and exo-xylal with 2,2-dimethoxy-2-phenylacetophenone as the photoinitiator resulted in high yielding formation of the corresponding β-d-glycopyranosylmethyl-sulfide derivatives (2,6-anhydro-1-deoxy-1-S-substituted-1-thio-alditols) with exclusive regio- and very high stereoselectivity, including disaccharide mimicks with Gly-CH2-S-Gly scaffolds.

Synthesis Antimicrobial and Anticancer Evaluation of 1-Aryl-5-(o-methoxyphenyl)-2-S-benzyl Isothiobiurets

A series of S-benzyl aryl thiourea were condensed with o-Methoxy phenyl isocyanate to yield respective isothiobiuret derivatives. The newly synthesized compounds were characterized by ¹H-NMR, IR, and Mass Spectral studies and tested for biological activities.

Recent developments in glycosyl urea synthesis

The area of sugar urea derivatives has received considerable attention in recent years because of the unique structural properties and activities that these compounds display. The urea-linkage at the anomeric center is a robust alternative to the naturally occurring O- and N-glycosidic linkages of oligosaccharides and glycoconjugates, and the natural products that have been identified to contain these structures show remarkable biological activity. While methods for installing the β-urea-linkage at the anomeric center have been around for decades, the first synthesis of α-urea glycosides has been much more recent. In either case, the selective synthesis of glycosyl ureas can be quite challenging, and a mixture of α- and β-isomers will often result. This paper will provide a comprehensive review of the synthetic approaches to α- and β-urea glycosides and examine the structure and activity of the natural products and their analogues that have been identified to contain them.
