Promoting effect of acid treatment on Pd-Ni/SBA-15 catalyst for complete oxidation of gaseous benzene

Electric Field Promoted Complete Oxidation of Benzene over PdCexCoy Catalysts at Low Temperature

The application of electric field promotes benzene oxidation significantly over Pd/CoxCey catalysts. For 1% Pd loading catalysts, the complete oxidation of benzene can be realized at 175 °C with an electric field under an input current of 3 mA, 79 °C lower than the temperature demanded for complete benzene conversion without electric field. The introduction of electric field can save Pd loading in the catalysts while maintaining high benzene conversion. The characterization experiments showed that CeO2 reduction was accelerated with electric field and created more active oxygen, promoting the formation of active sites on the catalyst surface. The OH removal ability of PdO was enhanced by forming CoO(OH) species, which can easily dehydroxylate since the reduction of Co3+ was promoted by the electric field. The optimized Ce/Co ratio is a balance between oxygen availability and OH removal ability.

Core-shell design and well-dispersed Pd particles for three-way catalysis: Effect of halloysite nanotubes functionalized with Schiff base

In this study, we have described the synthesis of core@shell three-way catalyst with well-dispersed Pd nanoparticles which were intercalated into halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) material via ligand assistance. The prepared parameters of Pd@HNTs catalyst included amine source, the molar ratio of amine and aldehyde, and the addition of CeO₂ promoter. As a result, Pd@HNTs performed a good dispersion of Pd particles and high stability, which is attributed to the strong interaction between Pd and HNTs with Schiff base ligands and the high thermal resistance of HNTs as a sintering barrier. Moreover, the results of various characteristic analyses revealed that Pd@HNT-E12 (ethylenediamine: salicylaldehyde in a molar ratio of 1:2) exhibited the highest gases conversion to the others, which has excellent redox ability. Furthermore, the addition of CeO₂, which acted as both a promoter and a protector, could provide more oxygen vacancies for promoting NO reduction and CO and C₃H₈ oxidation at gradually elevated temperatures. Such core-shell catalyst Ce@Pd@HNT-E12 could avoid excess CeO₂ penetrating into the pore volume of halloysite support and facilitate the three-way catalytic reaction.

Highly catalytic activity of Mn/SBA-15 catalysts for toluene combustion improved by adjusting the morphology of supports

Rod-like, hexagonal and fiber-like SBA-15 mesoporous silicas were synthesized to support MnO_x for toluene oxidation. This study showed that the morphology of the supports greatly influenced the catalytic activity in toluene oxidation. MnO_x supported on rod-like SBA-15 (R-SBA-15) displayed the best catalytic activity and the conversion at 230°C reached more than 90%, which was higher than the other two catalysts. MnO_x species consisted of coexisting MnO₂ and Mn₂O₃ on the three kinds of SBA-15 samples. Large amounts of Mn₂O₃ species were formed on the surface and high oxygen mobility was obtained on MnO_x supported on R-SBA-15, according to the H₂ temperature programmed reduction (H₂-TPR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results. The Mn/R-SBA-15 catalyst with greater amounts of Mn₂O₃ species possessed a large amount of surface lattice oxygen, which accelerated the catalytic reaction rate. Therefore, the surface lattice oxygen and high oxygen mobility were critical factors on the catalytic activity of the Mn/R-SBA-15 catalyst.

Study of CeO₂ Modified AlNi Mixed Pillared Clays Supported Palladium Catalysts for Benzene Adsorption/Desorption-Catalytic Combustion

A new functional AlNi-pillared clays (AlNi-PILC) with a large surface area and pore volume was synthesized. The performance of adsorption/desorption-catalytic combustion over CeO_2-modified Pd/AlNi-PILC catalysts was also studied. The results showed that the d₀₀₁-value and specific surface area (S_BET) of AlNi-PILC reached 2.11 nm and 374.8 m²/g, respectively. The large S_BET and the d₀₀₁-value improved the high capacity for benzene adsorption. Also, the strong interaction between PdCe mixed oxides and AlNi-PILC led to the high dispersion of PdO and CeO₂ on the support, which was responsible for the high catalytic performance. Especially, 0.2% Pd/12.5% Ce/AlNi-PILC presented high performance for benzene combustion at 240 °C and high CO₂ selectivity. Also, the combustion temperatures were lower compared to the desorption temperatures, which demonstrated that it could accomplish benzene combustion during the desorption process. Furthermore, its activity did not decrease after continuous reaction for 1000 h in dry air, and it also displayed good resistance to water and the chlorinated compound, making it a promising catalytic material for the elimination of volatile organic compounds.
