One-pot synthesis of 3-hydroxy-2-oxindole-pyridine hybrids via Hantzsch ester formation, oxidative aromatization and sp3 C H functionalization using FeWO4 nanoparticles as recyclable heterogeneous catalyst

Ammonium metavanadate (NH4VO3): a highly efficient and eco-friendly catalyst for one-pot synthesis of pyridines and 1,4-dihydropyridines

In this study, we reported the ammonium metavanadate (NH₄VO₃) as an efficient, cost-effective, and mild catalyst for the synthesis of substituted pyridines via a one-pot pseudo four-component reaction. Furthermore, we investigated Hantzsch 1,4-dihydropyridines (1,4-DHPs) synthesis and oxidation of 1,4-DHPs to their corresponding pyridines. The present approach offers a rapid methodology for accessing various pyridines with broad functional group tolerance and good yields using NH₄VO₃ catalyst as a green catalyst.

Engaging Isatins in Multicomponent Reactions (MCRs) - Easy Access to Structural Diversity

Multicomponent reactions (MCRs) are a valuable tool in diversity-oriented synthesis. Its application to privileged structures is gaining relevance in the fields of organic and medicinal chemistry. Isatin, due to its unique reactivity, can undergo different MCRs, affording multiple interesting scaffolds, namely oxindole-derivatives (including spirooxindoles, bis-oxindoles and 3,3-disubstituted oxindoles) and even, under certain conditions, ring-opening reactions occur that leads to other heterocyclic compounds. Over the past few years, new methodologies have been described for the application of this important and easily available starting material in MCRs. In this review, we explore these novelties, displaying them according to the structure of the final products obtained.

Toxicity of Nd2WO6 nanoparticles to the microalga Dunaliella salina: synthesis of nanoparticles and investigation of their impact on microalgae

The presence of nanoparticles in the environment and their impact on existing organisms is one of the main concerns of researchers working in this field. In this research, Nd₂WO₆ nanoparticles were prepared by an ultrasonic procedure for the first time. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) analyses were applied to identify and prove the purity of these particles. In addition to increasing the reaction rate and efficiency with the help of a radical generation mechanism, ultrasound was able to aid the synthesis of these particles. After confirming nanoparticle formation, the optimal nanoparticles in view of scale and morphology were selected by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Optimal particles at three concentrations (25, 50, and 100 ppm) were mixed into the algae growth medium to investigate the effects of the nanoparticles on Dunaliella salina growth. Biological parameters, including the number of cells, biomass, specific growth rate, pigments, and malondialdehyde (MDA), were measured after ten days. Growth parameters showed an increasing trend in concentrations up to 50 ppm; however, at a concentration of 100 ppm, a significant decrease was observed in contrast to the nanoparticles-free treatment. The MDA content showed a linear relationship with enhanced concentration of the nanoparticles. The examination of biological parameters showed that the algae response to stress was dependent on the concentration of nanoparticles. The results showed that 50 ppm of nanoparticles are suitable for increasing algae and achieving a suitable growth rate for commercial purposes. However, in higher concentrations, algal growth inhibition occurs, which is of great importance from a biotechnological point of view.

In this work, Nd₂WO₆ nanoparticles were synthesized by the ultrasonic method for the first time. Also, for the first time, the impact of these nanoparticles on the environment was investigated.

A novel method to construct a 3D FeWO4 microsphere-array electrode as a non-enzymatic glucose sensor

As the special sensor for glucose detection, a non-noble-metal nanoarray architecture is extremely attractive due to its easy accessibility to target molecules and more exposed surface area. In this communication, we report the first synthesis of FeWO₄ microsphere-array on the three-dimensional (3D) Ni foam (FeWO₄ microspheres/NF) as the mimetic electrode for efficient catalytic oxidation of glucose in an alkaline medium. When used as an artificial analog glucose sensor, the result of the present sensing system can also be calculated with a sensitivity of 2810 μA mM cm^-2, a linear range from 0.04 mM to 2 mM and a detection limit up to 1.4 μM (S/N = 3). This glucose sensor with satisfactory stability and reproducibility can also be applied to the detection of glucose in human serum. As a promising sensing platform, this proposed 3D FeWO₄ microspheres/NF may open a new strategy for pursuing electrochemical detection of biomolecules.

3-Hydroxy-3-((3-methyl-4-nitroisoxazol-5-yl)methyl)indolin-2-one as a versatile intermediate for retro-Henry and Friedel–Crafts alkylation reactions in aqueous medium

The first example of a retro-Henry type reaction is reported using 3-hydroxy-3-((3-methyl-4-nitroisoxazol-5-yl)methyl)indolin-2-ones which are prepared via catalyst-free Henry reaction of 3,5-dimethyl-4-nitroisoxazole and isatin.

Heterogeneous Co-catalyzed direct 2-alkylation of azoles with ethers

The direct 2-alkylation of oxazoles and thiazoles with ethers through cross-dehydrogenative coupling reaction using Co-containing mesoporous zeolite ETS-10 as the heterogeneous catalyst is described. The basic Co-containing mesoporous zeolite ETS-10 catalyst facilitates this cross-dehydrogenative coupling reaction through metal-base synergy catalytic principle.

The direct 2-alkylation of oxazoles and thiazoles with ethers through cross-dehydrogenative coupling reaction using Co-containing mesoporous zeolite ETS-10 as the heterogeneous catalyst is described.
