Abstract
A formal [3 + 2] annulation reaction of crotonate-derived sulfur ylides and β-ketothioamides (KTAs) was successfully developed to produce good-to-excellent yields of thiazoline and spiro[indoline-3,3'-thiophene] scaffolds. This transformation is a powerful tool for the synthesis of thiazoline and spiro[indoline-3,3'-thiophene] scaffolds due to its mild reaction conditions, easily accessible starting materials, and broad substrate scope. A large-scale reaction was carried out to ensure the practical applicability of this methodology. Finally, the plausible mechanistic pathway of the developed methodology was investigated.

Abstract
Thirty-two male Wistar albino rats were chosen to test the possible protective role of antioxidants of the edible seaweed Sargassum vulgare as a functional food additive to alleviate oxidative stress and toxicity associated with consumption of the artificial sweetener 'aspartame (ASP)'. Biochemical and spleen histopathological analyses of the orally ASP-administrated rats, at a dose of 500 mg/kg for one week daily, showed different apoptotic and inflammatory patterns. Rats treated with ASP and then supplemented orally with the S. vulgare-MeOH extract, at a dose of 150 mg/kg for three consecutive weeks daily, showed significant positive reactions in all investigated assays related to ASP consumption. The protective and immune-stimulant efficacy of S. vulgare-MeOH extract, inferred from combating oxidative stress-induced lipid peroxidation, modulating the low levels of the endogenous antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) and of the thyroid hormones T3 and T4, attenuating the elevated levels of apoptotic CASP-3 and inflammatory biomarkers TNF-α and IL-6, as well as heat shock proteins (Hsp70), can be most likely ascribed to the synergistic effect of its potent antioxidant phenolics (mainly gallic, ferulic, salicylic, and chlorogenic, and p-coumaric acids) and flavonoids (rutin, kaempferol, and hesperidin). Mechanism of action of these natural antioxidants was discussed.

Abstract
Marine compound dendrodoine was first obtained from tunicate species (
Dendrodo grossularia
). It has a five-membered ring, namely, it is a heterocycle thiadiazole, which is found rarely in natural sources
.
Following its biological activities, novel analogs have been investigated recently. Synthesis of the analogs for this study is realized with uncommon thiazole closure, including methylene-carbonyl condensation. Structures are elucidated by NMR (

C) and HRMS spectrums. As an alkaloid derivative, antioxidant properties were evaluated with DPPH and FRAP assays and antimicrobial effect with microdilution method. Among the series,
3bc-3cf
showed higher antioxidant activity than those having 3 or 4-pyridyl substituents. There is lesser activity for 2-pyridyl activity for 2-pyridyl containing group, which may be a result of intramolecular interactions. No activity was observed against gram-negative bacteria at 250 μg/mL.

showed activity at 64 μg/mL against
S. aureus
and
3ae
showed activity at 16 μg/mL against
S. epidermidis
gram-positive bacteria. Chloramphenicol showed activity against all microorganisms at 8–16 μg/mL. Sixteen original dendrodoine analogs have been defined by close/higher activity compared to dendrodoine analogs and Trolox.

Abstract
Thiazole is an important 5-membered heterocyclic compound containing nitrogen and sulfur
atoms with various pharmaceutical applications including anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-viral, hypoglycemic,
anti-bacterial and anti-fungal activities. Until now, the FDA-approved drugs containing thiazole
moiety have achieved great success such as dasatinib and dabrafenib. In recent years, considerable
research has been focused on thiazole derivatives, especially 2,4,5-trisubstituted thiazole derivatives,
due to their multiple medicinal applications. This review covers related literature in the past 20 years,
which reported the 2,4,5-trisubstituted thiazole as a privileged scaffold in drug design and activity improvement.
Moreover, this review aimed to provide greater insights into the rational design of more potent
pharmaceutical molecules based on 2,4,5-trisubstituted thiazole in the future.

Abstract
Chemical modification of pyridazinone may lead to a potent therapeutic agent. In this study,
biological properties of pyridazinone derivatives were evaluated by assessing their antimicrobial and
in-vitro antioxidant activities. The reaction of a mucochloric acid and 3-chloro-phenylhydrazine hydrochloride
led to the formation of 5-aryl-4-chloro-2-(3-chloro-phenyl)-2H-pyridazin-3-one derivatives
2(a-j). The target compounds were synthesized using nucleophilic substitution reaction. In-silico molecular
docking studies of the synthesized compounds were carried out with the help of V-Life Science
MDS 4.6 software using GRIP batch docking method to find out which derivative had a better docking.
The newly synthesized compounds were characterized by FTIR, 1HNMR, 13C-NMR, MS, and elemental
analysis. Antimicrobial and in-vitro antioxidant activity study of the novel synthesized compounds
were screened. Compounds 2f and 2g showed good antimicrobial having an MIC 12.5 μg/mL
against Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans and in-vitro antioxidant activities having an IC50
50.84. The experimental results were further supported by molecular docking analysis with better interaction
patterns.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Imidazo[2,1-b]thiazole, a well-known fused five-membered hetrocycle is one of the most promising and versatile moieties in the area of medicinal chemistry. Derivatives of imidazo[2,1-b]thiazole have been investigated for the development of new derivatives that exhibit diverse pharmacological activities. This fused heterocycle is also a part of a number of therapeutic agents. OBJECTIVE To review the extensive pharmacological activities of imidazo[2,1-b]thiazole derivatives and the new molecules developed between 2000-2018 and their usefulness. METHOD Thorough literature review of all relevant papers and patents was conducted. CONCLUSION The present review, covering a number of aspects, is expected to provide useful insights in the design of imidazo[2,1-b]thiazole-based compounds and would inspire the medicinal chemists for a comprehensive and target-oriented information to achieve a major breakthrough in the development of clinically viable candidates.

Abstract
A new thiazole-containing multidentate ligand 2-((2-phenylthiazol-4-yl)methylthio)ethanamine, L, was synthesized and used to prepare new complexes of the formula PdIILCl2 (Pd-L), CuIIL2Cl2 (Cu-L) and fac-[Re/99mTcI(CO)3(L)]+ (Re/99mTc-L). The ligand L and the metal complexes were characterized spectroscopically. Furthermore, the structures of Re-L and Cu-L were elucidated by X-ray crystallography. Ligand L acts as a bidentate (Nth, S) chelator in Pd-L, as a bidentate (N, S) chelator in Cu-L and as a tridentate (Nth, S, N) chelator in Re-L. The radiotracer 99mTc-L was synthesized in high yield and characterised by HPLC comparison with the Re-L analog. The synthesized compounds were evaluated for their anti-inflammatory and cytotoxic properties. The compounds exhibited low anti-inflammatory activity with Pd-L showing the highest activity among them. The cytotoxic activity of the ligand and the complexes against several human cancer cell lines (cervical adenocarcinoma HeLa, colorectal adenocarcinoma LS-174T, lung adenocarcinoma A549, breast adenocarcinoma MDA-MB-231 and normal human lung fibroblast cell line MRC-5) was examined using the MTT assay. The complex Cu-L exhibited the highest cytotoxicity and the complex Pd-L showed the best tumor selectivity. The changes in the cell cycle phase distribution were determined by flow cytometry and it was found that ligand L shows the highest apoptotic activity. The biodistribution studies of 99mTc-L in mice showed fast tissue clearance. Of all the thiazole-containing compounds, the palladium complex appears to be more promising for future efforts.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
The present study focused on the antioxidant, phenolic profile and free radical scavenging-mediated protective effect of leaves extracts of Syzygium guineense var. macrocarpum against ferric nitriloacetate-induced stress in the liver, heart, kidney and brain tissues of Wistar rats homogenates.
Methods
Spectrophotometric standardized methods were used to determine the free radical scavenging potential, antioxidant and protective properties of plant extracts on rat homogenates.
Results
All the extracts showed a concentration-dependent free radical quenching potential, and the ability to protect all the tested organs by inhibiting the lipid peroxidation and potentiating or restoring the activity of enzymatic and non enzymatic markers. The polyphenolic profile revealed the presence of at least one simple phenolic acid (gallic, caffeic, para-coumaric acid) although the majority (6 out of 14) of the compounds used as standard are present in the aqueous and aqueous–ethanol extracts.
Conclusions
Ethanolic extract of leaves of S. guineense var macrocarpum (SGETOH) exhibited the highest phenol content and appeared as the best extract taking into consideration the antioxidant and organo-protective activities tested.

Abstract
Dendrodoine analogue (DA), an aminothiazole compound derived from dendrodoine, present in a marine tunicate, has been shown to possess many beneficial properties. This study was aimed to evaluate its cardioprotective effect against isoproterenol (ISO)-induced myocardial damage in mice. Swiss mice were pretreated with DA for 7 days and then treated with ISO (5 mg/kg BW, for 2 consecutive days). Biochemical assessment of myocardial injury was carried out by measuring marker enzymes, antioxidant enzymes and levels of lipid peroxidation. Histological studies of hearts were also carried out. ISO administration increased the activities of creatine kinase-MB, lactate dehydrogenase and aspartate aminotranferase (AST) in serum. Prior administration of DA restored the levels of these enzymes and the heart coefficient close to normal levels. DA at a concentration of 5 mg/kg BW was most effective in reducing AST, and this concentration was used for further studies. DA also gave significant protection against lipid peroxidation in the heart besides restoring histopathological alterations. DA showed significant reactivity towards superoxide radicals. In conclusion our study indicates that DA can protect mouse myocardium against damage and one of the possible reasons behind this protective effect can be attributed to its antioxidant property.

Abstract
There are a multitude of antioxidants in foods, especially in foods of plant origin. Higher intake of antioxidant-rich foods is clearly associated with better health and functional longevity. The specific agents and mechanisms responsible are not yet clear, but there is convincing evidence that including more plant-based, antioxidant-rich foods, herbs, and beverages in the diet is effective in promoting health and lowering risk of various age-related diseases. The content of some individual antioxidants, such as vitamin C, in food can be measured, but it is not feasible to attempt to measure each antioxidant separately, and methods have been developed to assess the "total antioxidant content" of foods. One of the most widely used methods is the ferric reducing/antioxidant power (FRAP) assay, which is relatively simple, quick, sensitive, and inexpensive to perform. There are many published studies that have used the FRAP assay, and these have generated a very large database of total antioxidant content of foods that can help guide food choices for increased antioxidant intake. The FRAP assay has also been used to assess the bioavailability of antioxidants in foods and to investigate the effects of growing conditions, storage, processing, and cooking method on the total antioxidant content of food. The test can be employed as a quality control check device, and to detect adulteration of food. Furthermore, in a modified form (FRASC), the assay can measure ascorbic acid content almost simultaneously with the total antioxidant content of the sample. In this chapter, basic concepts of oxidation and the role of antioxidants, as well as the types and action of different antioxidants in foods will be reviewed briefly, and the underpinning concepts and evidence for health benefits of increased intake of dietary antioxidants will be discussed, with some focus on vitamin C, and also in the context of our evolutionary development. The basic concepts and limitations of measuring "total antioxidant content" of food will be presented. The FRAP assay and the modified version FRASC will be described, and the total antioxidant content (as the FRAP value) of a range of foods will be presented. Finally, issues of bioavailability and redox balance will be discussed in relation to the biological significance and molecular action of antioxidants in foods, some caution and caveats are presented about overcoming biological barriers to absorption of antioxidant phytochemicals, and research needs to further our understanding in the important area of food, antioxidants, and health will be highlighted.

Abstract
Background Alpinia oxyphylla is a common remedy in traditional Chinese medicine.
Yakuchinone A is a major constituent of A. oxyphylla and
exhibits anti-inflammatory, antitumor, antibacterial, and gastric protective
activities. Methods Antioxidant and antitumor characteristics of yakuchinone A in skin cancer cells as
well as novel mechanisms for the inhibition of adipocyte differentiation,
cestocidal activities against Hymenolepis nana adults, and nematocidal
activities against Anisakis simplex larvae are investigated. Results Yakuchinone A presents the ability of the removal of DPPH·and
ABTS+ free radicals and inhibition of lipid peroxidation.
Yakuchinone A suppresses intracellular lipid accumulation during adipocyte
differentiation in 3 T3-L1 cells and the expressions of leptin and
peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ
(PPARγ). Yakuchinone A induces apoptosis and inhibits cell
proliferation in skin cancer cells. The inhibition of cell growth by yakuchinone A
is more significant for non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) cells than for melanoma
(A375 and B16) and noncancerous (HaCaT and BNLCL2) cells. Treatment BCC cells with
yakuchinone A shows down-regulation of Bcl-2, up-regulation of Bax, and an
increase in cleavage poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP). This suggests that
yakuchinone A induces BCC cells apoptosis through the Bcl-2-mediated signaling
pathway. The anthelmintic activities of yakuchinone A for A. simplex are
better than for H. nana. Conclusions In this work, yakuchinone A exhibits antioxidative properties, anti-adipocyte
differentiation, antitumor activity, and anthelmintic activities against A.
simplex and H. nana.

Abstract
Brazilein, a natural, biologically active compound from Caesalpinia sappan L., has been shown to exhibit anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and to inhibit the growth of several cancer cells. This study verifies the antioxidant and antitumor characteristics of brazilein in skin cancer cells and is the first time to elucidate the inhibition mechanism of adipocyte differentiation, cestocidal activities against Hymenolepis nana, and reduction of spontaneous movement in Anisakis simplex. Brazilein exhibits an antioxidant capacity as well as the ability to scavenge DPPH• and ABTS•+ free radicals and to inhibit lipid peroxidation. Brazilein inhibited intracellular lipid accumulation during adipocyte differentiation in 3T3-L1 cells and suppressed the induction of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ), the master regulator of adipogenesis, suggesting that brazilein presents the antiobesity effects. The toxic effects of brazilein were evaluated in terms of cell viability, induction of apoptosis, and the activity of caspase-3 in BCC cells. The inhibition of the growth of skin cancer cells (A431, BCC, and SCC25) by brazilein is greater than that of human skin malignant melanoma (A375) cells, mouse leukemic monocyte macrophage (RAW 264.7 cells), and noncancerous cells (HaCaT and BNLCL2 cells). The anthelmintic activities of brazilein against Hymenolepis nana are better than those of Anisakis simplex.

Abstract
This study evaluated the radioprotective effect of dendrodoine analog (DA) against radiation-induced damage in the liver of mice. The study was divided into two phases; in the first phase, the effective concentration of DA was fixed by performing a survival study. In the second phase, the fixed effective concentration of DA was orally administered to mice to evaluate its radioprotective efficacy by performing various assays. The results indicated that the radiation-induced decrease in the activities of antioxidant enzymes, increase in thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and comet parameters were altered by pre-administration with the effective concentration of DA which restored the antioxidant status to near normal and decreased the level of the TBARS and comet parameters. The histopathological examinations further confirmed the hepatoprotective effect of DA in mice. Thus, the current study showed DA to be an effective radioprotector against radiation induced damage in the liver of mice.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the beneficial effects of organic and conventional grapevine (Vitis labrusca L.) leaf extracts in reducing hydrogen peroxide-induced stress in the liver, heart and kidney of Wistar rats by measuring lipids and proteins damages (carbonyl assay), as well as the activity of the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase and catalase. The preincubation with 5 mg/mL of organic and conventional grapevine (Vitis labrusca L.) leaf extracts prevented both lipids and proteins oxidative damages in all tissues analyzed. The organic leaf extract was able to restore superoxide dismutase (kidney and liver) and catalase (heart) activities, which were modified by the treatment with H(2)O(2). The conventional extract was able to restore only the catalase activity in liver and heart tissues. The beneficial effects of the V labrusca leaf extract shown in this study could probably be important for formulating dietary supplements, as well as for developing new ingredients with improved antioxidant properties from other plant sources.

Abstract
In our effort to develop multifunctional drugs against Parkinson's disease, a structure-activity-relationship study was carried out based on our hybrid molecular template targeting D2/D3 receptors. Competitive binding with [(3)H]spiroperidol was used to evaluate affinity (K(i)) of test compounds. Functional activity of selected compounds in stimulating [(35)S]GTPγS binding was assessed in CHO cells expressing either human D2 or D3 receptors. Our results demonstrated development of highly selective compounds for D3 receptor (for (-)-40K(i), D3 = 1.84 nM, D2/D3 = 583.2; for (-)-45K(i), D3 = 1.09 nM, D2/D3 = 827.5). Functional data identified (-)-40 (EC(50), D2 = 114 nM, D3 = 0.26 nM, D2/D3 = 438) as one of the highest D3 selective agonists known to date. In addition, high affinity, nonselective D3 agonist (-)-19 (EC(50), D2 = 2.96 nM and D3 = 1.26 nM) was also developed. Lead compounds with antioxidant activity were evaluated using an in vivo PD animal model.

Abstract
Organotellurium compounds have been synthesized since 1840, but pharmacological and toxicological studies about them are still incipient. Therefore, the objective of this study was to verify the effect of acute administration of the organochalcogen 3-butyl-1-phenyl-2-(phenyltelluro)oct-en-1-one on some parameters of oxidative stress in the brain of 30-day-old rats. Animals were treated intraperitoneally with a single dose of the organotellurium (125, 250, or 500 μg/kg body weight) and sacrificed 60 min after the injection. The cerebral cortex, the hippocampus, and the cerebellum were dissected and homogenized in KCl. Afterward, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), carbonyl, sulfhydryl, catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), nitric oxide (NO) formation, and hydroxyl radical production were measured in the brain. The organotellurium enhanced TBARS in the cerebral cortex and the hippocampus, and increased protein damage (carbonyl) in the cerebral cortex and the cerebellum. In contrast, the compound provoked a reduced loss of thiol groups measured by the sulfhydryl assay in all the tissues studied. Furthermore, the activity of the antioxidant enzyme CAT was reduced by the organochalcogen in the cerebral cortex and the cerebellum, and the activity of SOD was inhibited in all the brain tissues. Moreover, NO production was increased in the cerebral cortex and the cerebellum by this organochalcogen, and hydroxyl radical formation was also enhanced in the cerebral cortex. Our findings indicate that this organotellurium compound induces oxidative stress in the brain of rats, corroborating that this tissue is a potential target for organochalcogen action.

Abstract
AbstractThis paper presents the synthesis of complex compounds of type [M(L1)2], where M(II)= Cu (1), Co (2), Zn (3), L1=2-aminothiazole-4-acetate and [Mn(L1)2(H2O)] (4) using ethyl 2-(2-aminothiazole-4-yl) acetate (L), and characterization by elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibilities, IR, 1H-NMR, UV-Vis spectroscopy and for [Mn(L1)2(H2O)] also by X-ray diffraction. In vitro cytotoxicity studies were performed on human cervix adenocarcinoma, HeLa cells. The antitumor selectivity was assessed using normal human peripheral blood mononuclear cells, PBMC as control.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to verify the effect of the organochalcogen 3-butyl-1-phenyl-2-(phenyltelluro)oct-en-1-one on some parameters of oxidative stress in human serum. Serum of volunteers were incubated for 30 min in the presence or absence of 1, 10, or 30 microM of 3-butyl-1-phenyl-2-(phenyltelluro)oct-en-1-one and oxidative stress was measured. First, we tested the influence of the compound on 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH(*)) radical-scavenging and verified that the organotellurium did not have any antioxidant properties. The organochalcogen was capable to enhance TBARS but the compound was not able to alter carbonyl assay. Furthermore, the organochalcogen provoked a reduction of protein thiol groups measured by the sulfhydryl assay. Moreover, the organotellurium enhanced the activity of catalase and superoxide dismutase, inhibited the activity of glutathione peroxidase and did not modify the glutathione S-transferase activity. Furthermore, nitric oxide production and hydroxyl radical activity were not affected by the compound. Our findings showed that this organochalcogen induces oxidative stress in human serum, indicating that this compound is potentially toxic to human beings.

Abstract
Thiol and aminothiol compounds are among the most efficient chemical radioprotectors. To increase their efficiency, we synthesized two new classes of thiol and aminothiol compounds derived from benzothiazole (T1, T2, AM1, AM2) and thiadiazole (T3, T4, AM3) structures. We examined them for their ability to scavenge free radicals (DPPH*, ABTS(*+), *OH). Thiol derivatives with a thiadiazole structure are the most active compounds scavenging DPPH* and ABTS(*+) free radicals, with an IC(50) of 0.053+/-0.006 and 0.023+/-0.002 mM, respectively, for the derivative T3. Moreover, compounds T1, T2, and T3 at 60 microM gave 83% protection against 2-deoxyribose degradation by *OH. The ability of these compounds to protect DNA against *OH produced by a Fenton reaction and gamma-irradiation (15 Gy)-induced strand breaks was also evaluated on pBR322 plasmid DNA. In both tests thiol derivatives were the most efficient compounds. Derivatives T2 and T3 totally inhibit DNA strand breaks at the concentration of 50 microM. The protection afforded by these derivatives was comparatively higher than that of the radioprotectors WR-2721 and WR-1065. Our data indicate that these two compounds are free radical scavengers and potential antioxidant agents. Finally, DFT and QSAR studies were performed to support the experimental observations.

Abstract
In the title compound, [CdCl2(C4H6N2S)2], the CdII atom is coordinated by two chlorido ligands and two N atoms of the 2-amino-5-methyl-1,3-thiazole (amtz) ligands in a slightly distorted tetrahedral coordination geometry. Intra- and intermolecular N—H⋯Cl hydrogen bonding stabilizes the crystal structure. A weak S⋯Cl interaction [3.533 (2) Å] is observed between neighboring molecules.
