Abstract
An efficient, selective, and step economical radical cyclization of 1,6-dienes with alkyl nitriles initiated by α-C(sp3)-H functionalization under the Sc(OTf)3 and Ag2CO3 system is described here. The selective divergent cyclization relies on the substitution effect at the α-position of the acrylamide moiety and nitriles, which is terminated by hydrogen abstraction, direct cyclization with the aryl ring, or further cyclization with the CN bond and hydrolysis, respectively.

Abstract
2-Pyrrolidones have aroused enormous interest as a useful structural moiety in drug discovery; however, not only does their syntheses suffer from low selectivity and yield, but also it requires high catalyst loadings. The radical cyclization of 1,n-enynes and 1,n-dienes has demonstrated to be an attractive method for the synthesis of 2-pyrrolidones due to its mild reaction conditions, fewer steps, higher atom economy, excellent functional group compatibility, and high regioselectivity. Furthermore, radical receptors with unsaturated bonds (i. e. 1,n-enynes and 1,n-dienes) play a crucial role in realizing radical cyclization because of the ability to selectively introduce one or more radical sources. In this review, we discuss representative examples of methods involving the radical cyclization of 1,n-enynes and 1,n-dienes published in the last five years and discuss each prominent reaction design and mechanism, providing favorable tools for the synthesis of valuable 2-pyrrolidone for a variety of applications.

Abstract
A novel catalyst-free synthesis of N-pyridin-2-yl, N-quinolin-2-yl, and N-isoquinolin-1-yl carbamates utilizes easily accessible N-hetaryl ureas and alcohols. The proposed environmentally friendly technique is suitable for the good-to-high yielding synthesis of a wide range of N-pyridin-2-yl or N-quinolin-2-yl substituted carbamates featuring electron-donating and electron-withdrawing groups in the azine rings and containing various primary, secondary, and even tertiary alkyl substituents at the oxygen atom (48-94%; 31 examples). The DFT calculation and experimental study showed that the reaction proceeds through the intermediate formation of hetaryl isocyanates. The method can be applied to obtain N-isoquinolin-1-yl carbamates, although in lower yields, and ethyl benzo[h]quinolin-2-yl carbamate has also been successfully synthesized (68%).

Abstract
Synthesis of only benzene ring functionalized indoles and poly-substituted carbazoles is reported via a one-pot triple cascade benzannulation protocol. Usage of differently substituted and readily accessible allylboronic acids as a 3-carbon annulating partner enables diverse aliphatic and aromatic substitution patterns, which is still a daunting task. This scalable synthetic protocol tolerates broad scope, thus enabling further downstream modifications. As an application, carbazole based natural products glycozoline and glycozolinol were synthesized.

Abstract
A practical and sustainable synthesis of arylsulfonate esters has been developed through electro-oxidation. This reaction employed the stable and readily available phenols and sodium arenesulfinates as the starting materials and took place under mild reaction conditions without additional oxidants. A wide range of arylsulfonate esters including those bearing functional groups were produced in good to excellent yields. This reaction could also be conducted at a gram scale without a decrease of reaction efficiency. Those results well demonstrated the potential synthetic value of this reaction in organic synthesis.

Abstract
Diastereoselective Michael addition reactions of 3-(alkylamino)-9H-furo[3,4-b]chromen-9-one intermediate, produced from the [1 + 4] cycloaddition/tautomerization reaction between 3-formylchromones and alkyl isocyanide in dry CH2Cl2, with arylidene malononitrile were developed to afford a wide range of functionalized 2-((S)-((R,Z)-3-(alkylimino)-9-oxo-3,9-dihydro-1H-furo[3,4-b]chromen-1-yl)(aryl)methyl)malononitrile derivatives in good yields and excellent diastereoselectivities under mild conditions. Excellent diastereoselectivity has been achieved to yield products containing two stereogenic carbons and one stereogenic imine group. Two C-C and one C-O bonds were selectively formed to provide new alkylated iminofurochromones in good yields.

Abstract
A copper-promoted oxidative cyanomethylation/ring-expansion of vinylcyclopropanes with α-C(sp3)-H bonds in alkyl nitriles is established for the generation of 1-cyanoethylated 3,4-dihydronaphthalenes. This cyanomethylation/ring-expansion involves a radical pathway and proceeds via cyanomethyl radical formation, radical addition and ring-expansion. This ring-expansion strategy offers a highly atom-economical route for the construction of nitrile-containing 3,4-dihydronaphthalenes, which can be transformed into other useful products under simple conditions.
