Abstract
Water-soluble polymers with the ability to complex metal ions through complexing ligands have attracted significant interest in diverse domains, such as optical or catalyst applications. In this paper, we successfully synthesized, through a one-pot process combining polymerization-induced self-assembly and reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer polymerization, aqueous dispersions of terpyridine-decorated poly[poly(ethylene glycol)methyl ether methacrylate]-b-poly(methyl methacrylate) (tpy-PPEGMA-b-PMMA) amphiphilic block copolymers. The in-situ formation of well-defined amphiphilic block copolymers and their self-assembly led to nanosphere latex with the hydrodynamic diameters increasing from 17 to 52 nm and the length of the copolymers increasing from 21,000 to 51,000 g·mol-1. These aqueous dispersed tpy-PPEGMA-b-PMMA nanospheres effectively complex metal ions, such as Cu2+, in a stoichiometric ratio of 2:1. Subsequently, these metal-complexed nanospheres were employed as soft template nanocarriers to control, on the nanometer scale, the dispersion of metal on a nanostructured support. This is exemplified by the synthesis of copper supported on cerium oxide hollow spheres (Cu-CeO2) using Cu2+-tpy-PPEGMA-b-PMMA as template nanocarriers and CeO2 nanoparticles. This novel assembly engineering strategy for the preparation of atomically dispersed metal on a nanostructured support was highlighted through the utilization of Cu-CeO2 hollow spheres as an electrocatalyst for the nitrate reduction reaction (NO3RR) to NH3. These encouraging outcomes emphasize the potential of metal-metal oxide-nanostructured materials to treat contaminated water sources with nitrate while allowing the green production of ammonia.

Abstract
Electrocatalytic water splitting is one of the most efficient ways of producing green hydrogen energy. The design of stable, active, and efficient electrocatalysts plays a crucial role in water splitting for achieving efficient energy conversion from electrical to hydrogen energy, aimed at solving the lingering energy crisis. In this work, CNT composites modified with CoP-V4P3 composites (CoVO-10-CNT-450P) were formed by carbonising a pencil-like precursor (Co3V2O8-H2O) and growing carbon nanotubes in situ, followed by in situ phosphorylation on the carbon nanotubes. In the HER electrocatalytic process, an overpotential of only 124 mV was exhibited at a current density of 10 mA cm-2. In addition, as an OER catalyst, a low overpotential of 280 mV was attained at a current density of 10 mA cm-2. Moreover, there was no noticeable change in the performance of the catalyst over a 90 h test in a continuous total water splitting experiment. The unique electronic structure and hollow carbon nanotube structure of CoVO-10-CNT-450P effectively increased the catalytic active sites, while also significantly improving the electrocatalytic activity. This work provides theoretical guidance for the design and synthetic route of high-performance non-precious metal electrocatalysts, and actively promotes the commercial application of electrochemical water splitting.

Green synthesis of Fe 3O 4 nanoparticles using Alliaceae waste (Allium sativum) for a sustainable landscape enhancement using support vector regression. CHEMOSPHERE 2023; 334:138638. Abstract
The synthesis of metal nanoparticles using green chemistry methods has gained significant attention in the field of landscape enhancement. Researchers have paid close attention to the development of very effective green chemistry approaches for the production of metal nanoparticles (NPs). The primary goal is to create an environmentally sustainable technique for generating NPs. At the nanoscale, ferro- and ferrimagnetic minerals such as magnetite exhibit superparamagnetic properties (Fe3O4). Magnetic nanoparticles (NPs) have received increased interest in nanoscience and nanotechnology due to their physiochemical properties, small particle size (1-100 nm), and low toxicity. Biological resources such as bacteria, algae, fungus, and plants have been used to manufacture affordable, energy-efficient, non-toxic, and ecologically acceptable metallic NPs. Despite the growing demand for Fe3O4 nanoparticles in a variety of applications, typical chemical production processes can produce hazardous byproducts and trash, resulting in significant environmental implications. The purpose of this study is to look at the ability of Allium sativum, a member of the Alliaceae family recognized for its culinary and medicinal benefits, to synthesize Fe3O4 NPs. Extracts of Allium sativum seeds and cloves include reducing sugars like glucose, which may be used as decreasing factors in the production of Fe3O4 NPs to reduce the requirement for hazardous chemicals and increase sustainability. The analytic procedures were carried out utilizing machine learning as support vector regression (SVR). Furthermore, because Allium sativum is widely accessible and biocompatible, it is a safe and cost-effective material for the manufacture of Fe3O4 NPs. Using the regression indices metrics of root mean square error (RMSE) and coefficient of determination (R2), the X-ray diffraction (XRD) study revealed the lighter, smoother spherical forms of NPs in the presence of aqueous garlic extract and 70.223 nm in its absence. The antifungal activity of Fe3O4 NPs against Candida albicans was investigated using a disc diffusion technique but exhibited no impact at doses of 200, 400, and 600 ppm. This characterization of the nanoparticles helps in understanding their physical properties and provides insights into their potential applications in landscape enhancement.

Abstract
As the only renewable carbon resource on Earth, lignocellulosic biomass is abundant in reserves and has the advantages of environmental friendliness, low price, and easy availability. The pyrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass can generate solid biochar with a large specific surface area, well-developed pores, and plentiful surface functional groups. Therefore, it can be considered as a catalyst for upgrading the other two products, syngas and liquid bio-oil, from lignocellulosic biomass pyrolysis, which has the potential to be an alternative to some non-renewable and expensive conventional catalysts. In addition, as another carbon resource, waste plastics can also use biochar-based catalysts for catalytic pyrolysis to solve the problem of accumulation and produce fuels simultaneously. This review systematically introduces the formation mechanism of biochar from lignocellulosic biomass pyrolysis. Subsequently, the activation and modification methods of biochar catalysts, including physical activation, chemical activation, metal modification, and nonmetallic modification, are summarized. Finally, the application of biochar-based catalysts for lignocellulosic biomass and waste plastics pyrolysis is discussed in detail and the catalytic mechanism of biochar-based catalysts is also investigated.

Abstract
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) with carcinogenic, teratogenic and mutagenic properties are persistent organic pollutants in the environment. Herein, the novel multifunctional Fe3O4/Cu2O-Ag nanocomposites (NCs) have been established for ultra-sensitive surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) detection and visible light-driven photocatalytic degradation of PAHs. Fe3O4/Cu2O-Ag NCs with different amounts of Ag nanocrystals were synthesized, and the effect of Ag contents on SERS performance was studied by finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) algorithm. The synergistic interplay of electromagnetic and chemical enhancement was responsible for excellent SERS sensitivity of Fe3O4/Cu2O-Ag NCs. The limit of detection (LOD) of optimal SERS substrates (FCA-2 NCs) for Nap, BaP, Pyr and Ant was as low as 10-9, 10-9, 10-9 and 10-10 M, respectively. The SERS detection of PAHs in actual soil environment was also studied. Moreover, a simple SERS method was used to monitor the photocatalytic process of PAHs. The recovery and reuse of Fe3O4/Cu2O-Ag NCs were achieved through magnetic field, and the outstanding SERS and photocatalytic performance were still maintained even after eight cycles. This magnetic multifunctional NCs provide a unique idea for the integration of ultra-sensitive SERS detection and efficient photocatalytic degradation of PAHs, and thus will have more hopeful prospects in the field of environmental protection.

Abstract
Through the amination of oxidized activated carbon with ethylenediamine and then the adsorption of sulfuric acid, a strong carbon-based solid acid catalyst with hydrogen sulfate (denoted as AC-N-SO4H) was prepared, of which the surface acid density was 0.85 mmol/g. The acetalization of benzaldehyde with ethylene glycol catalyzed by AC-N-SO4H was investigated. The optimized catalyst dosage accounted for 5 wt.% of the benzaldehyde mass, and the molar ratio of glycol to benzaldehyde was 1.75. After reacting such mixture at 80 °C for 5 h, the benzaldehyde was almost quantitatively converted into acetal; the conversion yield was up to 99.4%, and no byproduct was detected. It is surprising that the catalyst could be easily recovered and reused ten times without significant deactivation, with the conversion yield remaining above 99%. The catalyst also exhibited good substrate suitability for the acetalization of aliphatic aldehydes and the ketalization of ketones with different 1,2-diols.
