Abstract
The ligand exchange reaction of (THF)2Fe[Si(SiMe3)3]2 with 2 equivalents of an N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) led to the formation of a square-planar iron(II) complex with trans-oriented -Si(SiMe3)3 ligands. Conversely, the introduction of a cis-coordinate bidentate organosilyl ligand instead of -Si(SiMe3)3 resulted in the formation of a square planar iron(II) complex supported by a cis-coordinate bidentate organosilyl ligand. A three-coordinate planar iron(II) bis(silyl) complex was also synthesized using a cis-coordinate bidentate organosilyl ligand and a cyclic (alkyl)(amino)carbene auxiliary ligand. Investigation of the catalytic performance of these complexes in the hydrosilylation of acetophenone revealed that the square-planar iron(II) complex with trans-oriented -Si(SiMe3)3 ligands exhibits superior reactivity relative to its tetrahedral precursor.

Abstract
We have developed an original blue-light mediated iron-catalyzed oxy-phosphinylation of activated alkenes by secondary phosphine oxides under air at room temperature. Various β-ketophosphine oxides were then obtained in 43-97 % isolated yields. Control experiments revealed that radical process is involved in the mechanism.

Abstract
Iron complexes bearing 1,2,3-triazol-5-ylidene were synthesized and applied to the reaction with hydrosilane and homogeneous catalytic hydrosilylation of aromatic ketones and aldehydes. Addition of a free carbene to a solution of Fe(CO)4Br2 yielded an octahedral, diamagnetic and cationic iron(II) complex [Fe(1,2,3-triazolylidene)(CO)2Br]+. Pyrolysis of the dicarbonyl complex eliminated the two CO ligands to form a paramagnetic four-coordinate complex. A theoretical study using DFT calculations indicated that the spin state changed from singlet to quintet during ligand elimination. Investigations of the successful hydrosilylation of acetophenone and benzaldehyde derivatives using MIC-iron(II) bromide suggested the importance of the base for efficient conversion in the catalytic process. The bromide-to-hydride exchange reaction, transmetallation, of MIC-iron(II) bromide in the presence of KOtBu and HSi(OEt)3 which could occur in the initial process of hydrosilylation was proposed, and supported by a theoretical study.

Abstract
The Dess-Martin periodinane (DMP) reagent-mediated reactions of tertiary enaminones with potassium thiocyanate for the synthesis of thiazole-5-carbaldehydes are developed. The product formation involves cascade hydroxyl thiocyanation of the C═C double bond, intramolecular hydroamination of the C≡N bond, and thiazole annulation by condensation on the ketone carbonyl site, representing novel reaction pathways in the reactions between enaminones and thiocyanate salt. DMP plays dual roles in mediating the free radical thiocyanation and inducing the unconventional selective thiazole-5-carbaldehyde formation by masking the in situ generated formyl group during the reaction process.

Abstract
Amines play an important role in synthesizing drugs, pesticides, dyes, etc. Herein, we report on an efficient catalyst for the general construction of amine mediated by nickel boride nanoclusters supported by a TS-1 molecular sieve. Efficient production of amines was achieved via catalytic hydrogenation of N=X (X = C, O, H) bonds. In addition, the catalyst maintains excellent performance upon recycling. Compared with the previous reports, the high activity, simple preparation and reusability of the Ni-B catalyst in this work make it promising for industrial application in the production of amines.

Abstract
Ether derivatives have myriad applications in several areas of chemical industry and academia. Hence, the development of more effective and sustainable protocols for their production is highly desired. Among the different methodologies reported for ether synthesis, catalytic reductive alcohol etherifications with carbonyl-based moieties (aldehydes/ketones and carboxylic acid derivatives) have emerged in the last years as a potential tool. These processes constitute appealing routes for the selective production of both symmetrical and asymmetrical ethers (including O-heterocycles) with an increased molecular complexity. Likewise, ester-to-ether catalytic reductions and hydrogenative alcohol etherifications with CO2 to dialkoxymethanes and other acetals, albeit in less extent, have undergone important advances, too. In this Review, an update of the recent progresses in the area of catalytic reductive alcohol etherifications using carbonyl-based compounds and CO2 have been described with a special focus on organic synthetic applications and catalyst design. Complementarily, recent progress made in catalytic acetal/ketal-to-ether or ester-to-ether reductions and other related transformations have been also summarized.

Abstract
We report the design of a new iron catalyst for the asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of ketones. This type of iron catalyst combines the structural characteristics of the Noyori hydrogenation catalyst (an axially chiral 2,2'-bis(phosphino)-1,1'-binaphthyl fragment and the metal-ligand bifunctional motif) and an ene(amido) group that can activate the iron center. After activation by 8 equivalents of potassium tert-butoxide, (SA,RP,SS)-7a and (SA,RP,SS)-7b are active but nonenantioselective catalysts for the transfer hydrogenation of acetophenone and α,β-unsaturated aldehydes at room temperature in isopropanol. A maximum turnover number of 14480 was observed for (SA,RP,SS)-7a in the reduction of acetophenone. The right combination of the stereochemistry of the axially chiral 2,2'-bis(phosphino)-1,1'-binaphthyl group and the carbon-centered chiral amine-imine moiety in (SA,RP,RR)-7b' afforded an enantioselective catalyst for the preparation of chiral alcohols with moderate to good yields and a broad functional group tolerance.

Abstract
[Fe]-hydrogenase is an efficient biological hydrogenation catalyst. Despite intense research, Fe complexes mimicking the active site of [Fe]-hydrogenase have not achieved turnovers in hydrogenation reactions. Herein, we describe the design and development of a manganese(I) mimic of [Fe]-hydrogenase. This complex exhibits the highest activity and broadest scope in catalytic hydrogenation among known mimics. Thanks to its biomimetic nature, the complex exhibits unique activity in the hydrogenation of compounds analogous to methenyl-H4 MPT+ , the natural substrate of [Fe]-hydrogenase. This activity enables asymmetric relay hydrogenation of benzoxazinones and benzoxazines, involving the hydrogenation of a chiral hydride transfer agent using our catalyst coupled to Lewis acid-catalyzed hydride transfer from this agent to the substrates.

Abstract
A catalyst-free and solvent-free method for the hydroboration of a variety of carboxylic acids with pinacolborane was developed. The hydroboration of various aromatic and aliphatic carboxylic acids as well as dicarboxylic acids with HBpin could be completed within 6 h at room temperature or within 1 h at 60 °C to give the products in quantitative yields under neat conditions without the need for any solvent or metal catalyst. The possible reaction mechanism was investigated in detail based on the corresponding DFT calculations and the stoichiometric reaction of acetic acid with different equivalents of HBpin (at room temperature and 0 °C) and it revealed the stepwise nature of the protocol.

Design, synthesis and biological evaluation of novel α-aminophosphonate oxadiazoles via optimized iron triflate catalyzed reaction as apoptotic inducers. Eur J Med Chem 2019; 180:310-320. Abstract
α-aminophosphonate oxadiazoles (5a-m) were prepared in high yields by reacting of 1,3,4-oxadiazole acetohydrazide (3) with appropriate aldehydes and diethyl phosphite under Kabachnik-Fields conditions using Iron triflate as a catalyst. The reaction conditions were optimized using D-optimal experimental design. Possible reaction mechanisms were considered, and structures of the new products were based upon compatible elementary and spectroscopic evidence. In vitro antitumor activities of these compounds were evaluated against human cancer cell lines of colon (HCT116), breast (MCF7) and liver (HepG2) and compared with anticancer drug, Doxorubicin, employing standard MTT assay. Compounds 5i and 5l demonstrated good antiproliferative activities against HCT116 tumor cells comparable to doxorubicin with low cytotoxicity towards normal fetal colon cell (FHC). Additionally, their capacity to activate apoptosis cascade was studied in HCT116 cell line by investigating the activation of proteolytic caspases cascade, the levels of Cytochrome C, Bax and Bcl-2. Active caspase-3 level was enhanced by 6-8-folds in HCT116 cell line when stimulated with compounds 5i and 5l compared to the control. The level of Caspases 8 & 9 was also increased signifying that intrinsic and extrinsic pathways are both activated. They also induced Bax and down regulated Bcl-2 protein level in addition to over-expressing Cytochrome C level in HCT116 cell line. Also, HCT116 cell cycle was mainly arrested at the Pre-G1 and G2/M phases when treated with compounds 5i and 5l.

Abstract
The use of 3d metals in de/hydrogenation catalysis has emerged as a competitive field with respect to "traditional" precious metal catalyzed transformations. The introduction of functional pincer ligands that can store protons and/or electrons as expressed by metal-ligand cooperativity and ligand redox-activity strongly stimulated this development as a conceptual starting point for rational catalyst design. This review aims at providing a comprehensive picture of the utilization of functional pincer ligands in first-row transition metal hydrogenation and dehydrogenation catalysis and related synthetic concepts relying on these such as the hydrogen borrowing methodology. Particular emphasis is put on the implementation and relevance of cooperating and redox-active pincer ligands within the mechanistic scenarios.

Abstract
Abstract
Changing demands on the energy landscape are causing the need for sustainable approaches. The shift toward alternative, renewable energy sources is closely associated with new demands for energy storage and transportation. Besides storage of electrical energy, also storage of energy by generating and consuming hydrogen (H2) is possible and highly attractive. Notably, both secondary energy vectors, electric energy and hydrogen, have practical advantages so that one should not ask “which one is better?” but “which one fits better the specific application?”
Molecular hydrogen can be stored reversibly in form of formic acid (FA, HCOOH). In the presence of suitable catalysts, FA can be selectively decomposed to hydrogen and carbon dioxide (CO2). A CO2-neutral hydrogen storage cycle can be achieved when carbon dioxide serves as starting material for the production of the FA. Examples of CO2 hydrogenation to FA are known in the literature. Herein, the formal reverse reaction, the decomposition of FA to H2 and CO2 by different catalyst systems is reviewed and selected examples for reversible storage applications based on FA as hydrogen storage compound are discussed.

Abstract
Abstract
A set of 18 zerovalent group 8 metal complexes of the form [ML
n
(CO)5−
n
] (M=Fe, Ru, Os; L=neutral donor; n=0–2) were screened for their catalytic performance in aldehyde hydrosilylation and olefin hydroboration reactions. Although none of the untested catalysts were found to perform better than the previously-published complex [Fe(CO)4(IMes)] (IMes=1,3-Dimesityliidazol-2-ylidene), the results suggest that the Lewis basicity of the metal complex does not play a critical role in the catalysis of these two reactions.
