Abstract
The family of radical-cation salts β''-(BEDT-TTF)4[(A)M3+(C2O4)3]·guest (M = Fe, Cr, Ga, Al, Co, Mn, Rh, Ru; A = K+, H3O+, NH4 +) has produced superconductors, metals, semiconductors, and metal-insulators through introduction of different guest molecules into the structure. We present three new additions to the family β''-(BEDT-TTF)4[(A)Cr(C2O4)3]·guest with the guest molecules toluene, phenol, or salicylaldehyde. These new guests are liquid or solid additives within the electrocrystallisation medium. All three salts show metallic behaviour from room temperature down to <10 K and do not show a superconducting transition.

Abstract
Organic radicals are widely used as linkers or ligands to synthesize molecular magnetic materials. However, studies regarding the molecular anisotropies of radical-based magnetic materials and their multifunctionalities are rare. Herein, a photoisomerizable diarylethene ligand was used to form {[CoIII(3,5-DTSQ·-)(3,5-DTCat2-)]2(6F-DAE-py2)}·3CH3CN·H2O (o-1·3CH3CN·H2O, 6F-DAE-py2 = 1,2-bis(2-methyl-5-(4-pyridyl)-3-thienyl)perfluorocyclopentene), a valence-tautomeric (VT) coordination polymer. We directly observed dual radicals for a single crystal using high-field/-frequency (∼13.3 T and ∼360 GHz) electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy along the c-axis, which was further confirmed by angle-dependent Q-band EPR spectroscopy. Moreover, a conductive anomaly close to the VT transition temperature was observed only when probes were attached at the ab plane of the single crystal, indicative of synergy between valence tautomerism and conductivity. Structural anisotropy studies and density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed that this synergy is due to electron transfer associated with valence tautomerism. This study presents the first example of dual-radical-based molecular anisotropy and charge-transfer-induced conductive anisotropy in a photoswitchable coordination polymer.

Superconductivity and Charge Ordering in BEDT-TTF Based Organic Conductors with β″-Type Molecular Arrangement. CRYSTALS 2022. Abstract
Exotic superconductivity that appears near the charge ordering instability has attracted significant interest since the beginning of superconducting study. The discovery of possible coexistence of charge ordering and superconductivity in cuprates and kagome metals has further fascinated researchers in recent years. In this review, we focus on the BEDT-TTF-based organic superconductor with β″-type molecular packing sequence, which shows the charge ordering transition in the very vicinity of superconducting transition, and summarize the experimental results reported up to the present. At the charge ordering temperature, ultrasonic measurement detects the softening of the crystal lattice, and 13C-NMR measurement shows an increase in nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate divided by temperature 1/T1T. These results suggest that low-energy dynamics are activated near the charge ordering transition, leading us to invoke the charge-fluctuation mediated superconducting pairing mechanism.

Abstract
We report the first examples of radical-cation salts of BEDT-TTF with spiroborate anions [B(mandelate)2]- and [B(2-chloromandelate)2]-, synthesized from either enantiopure or racemic bidentate mandelate or chloromandelate ligands. In the salts prepared using enantiopure ligands only one of two diastereoisomers of the spiroborate anion is incorporated, with the boron centre having the same stereochemistry as the enantiopure ligand. For the racemic salts one racemic pair of spiroborate anions containing an R and an S mandelate ligand is incorporated. In certain solvents helical crystals were obtained when using spiroborate anions with enantiopure ligands. Electrical and magnetic properties, and band structure calculations are reported.

Abstract
The syntheses of new BEDT-TTF derivatives are described. These comprise BEDT-TTF with one ethynyl group (HC≡C-), with two (n-heptyl) or four (n-butyl) alkyl side chains, with two trans acetal (-CH(OMe)2) groups, with two trans aminomethyl (-CH2NH2) groups, and with an iminodiacetate (-CH2N(CH2CO2−)2 side chain. Three transition metal salts have been prepared from the latter donor, and their magnetic properties are reported. Three tris-donor systems are reported bearing three BEDT-TTF derivatives with ester links to a core derived from benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid. The stereochemistry and molecular structure of the donors are discussed. X-ray crystal structures of two BEDT-TTF donors are reported: one with two CH(OMe)2 groups and with one a -CH2N(CH2CO2Me)2 side chain.

Abstract
Peter Day’s research group reported the first molecular superconductor containing paramagnetic metal ions in 1995, β″-(BEDT-TTF)4(H3O)Fe(C2O4)3·C6H5CN. Subsequent research has produced a multitude of BEDT-TTF-tris(oxalato)metallate salts with a variety of structures and properties, including 32 superconductors to date. We present here the synthesis, crystal structure, and conducting properties of the newest additions to the Day series including the first superconductor incorporating the diamagnetic tris(oxalato)aluminate anion, β″-(BEDT-TTF)4(H3O)Al(C2O4)3·C6H5Br, which has a superconducting Tc of ~2.5 K. β″-(BEDT-TTF)4(H3O)Co(C2O4)3·C6H5Br represents the first example of a β″ phase for the tris(oxalato)cobaltate anion, but this salt does not show superconductivity.

Abstract
New organic (super)conductors of the β″-(BEDT-TTF)4A+[M3+(C2O4)3]G family, where BEDT-TTF is bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene; M is Fe; A is the monovalent cation NH4+; G is 2-fluoropyridine (2-FPy) (1); 2,3-difluoropyridine (2,3-DFPy) (2); 2-chloro-3-fluoropyridine (2-Cl-3-FPy) (3); 2,6-dichloropyridine (2,6-DClPy) (4); 2,6-difluoropyridine (2,6-DFPy) (5), have been prepared and their crystal structure and transport properties were studied. All crystals have a layered structure in which the conducting layers of BEDT-TTF radical cations alternate with paramagnetic supramolecular anionic layers {A+[Fe3+(C2O4)3]3−G0}2−. Crystals 1 undergo a structural phase transition from the monoclinic (C2/c) to the triclinic (P1¯) symmetry in the range 100–150 K, whereas crystals 2–5 have a monoclinic symmetry in the entire range of the X-ray experiment (100–300 K). The alternating current (ac) conductivity of salts 1–4 exhibits metallic behavior down to 1.4 K, whereas the salt 5 demonstrates the onset of a superconducting transition at 3.1 K. The structures and conducting properties of 1–5 are compared with those of the known monoclinic phases of the family containing different monohalopyridines as “guest” solvent molecules G.

Abstract
The smart utilization of photons is paid global attention from the viewpoint of renewable energy and information technology. However, it is still impossible to store photons as batteries and condensers do for electrons. All the present technologies utilize (the energy of) photons in situ, such as solar panels, or in spontaneous relaxation processes, such as photoluminescence. If we can store the energy of photons over an arbitrary period and utilize them on demand, not only we will make an innovative progress in energy management, but we will also be able to replace a part of electrons by photons in the information technology for more efficient performance. In this article, we review a prototype of such a material including the current status of related research as well as where we are heading for.

Abstract
Most large organic cations in the low-dimensional hybrid halide perovskites deteriorate the photoelectric conversion efficiency of the cells. Integrating electronically active organic components into hybrid metal halides is an effective method to improve their photoelectric properties. In this work, a series of compounds obtained by hybridizing redox-active tetrakis(methylthio)tetrathiafulvalene (TMT-TTF) with bismuth chloride, formulated as [TMT-TTF]4[Bi6Cl22] (1 and 1'), [TMT-TTF]3[Bi4Cl16] (2), [TMT-TTF]2[Bi3Cl13] (3), [TMT-TTF]2[Bi2Cl10] (4), and {[TMT-TTF][Bi2Cl8]}n (5), were crystallographically characterized. These hybrids exhibit changeable oxidation states of the TTF moiety. The radical cation TTF•+ exists in 1 and 1', while a mixed-valence TTF•+/TTF2+ appears in 2 that has never been documented in any compounds and the dication TTF2+ exists in 3-5 that has never been introduced into hybrid organic-inorganic materials. The different charged states of the TTF cations lead to various degrees of connectivity of metal chloride anions, which exert a significant effect on the cation-anion arrangement and result in different supramolecular interactions between TMT-TTF and between cations and anions. The changeable oxidation states of the TTF moiety and varying degrees of metal chloride connectivity provide a good comparison among these hybridized bismuth chlorides. The order of conductivity is 2 > 1 > 1' > 3 ≈ 4 ≫ 5, which results from the synergistic effect of different oxidation states, the packing of TMT-TTF cations, and back charge transfer from the Bi-Cl anion to the TMT-TTF cation. Notably, the electrical conductivity and carrier mobility can be modulated with the fact that compound 2 has the highest performances in the dark, while in light, these properties of 1 and 1' are in turn higher than that of 2. The order of the photocurrent densities is in accordance with the increase of carrier mobility under irradiation of light. This work is the first systematic study of hybrid metal halides with various oxidation states of TTFs and presents a clear structure-property relationship and offers a fresh view on the design of new perovskite materials at the molecular level.

Abstract
Inorganic CuSCN and organic tetrathiafulvalene derivatives (TTFs) have been exploited as hole-transport materials (HTM) in hybrid perovskite solar cells. To develop new HTM, we herein report two hybrid materials incorporating redox-active TTFs with CuSCN framework (TTFs-CuSCN). Single-crystal analysis showed that compound [Cu2(py-TTF-py)(SCN)2] (1) is three-dimensional (3D) and compound [Cu(py-TTF-py)(SCN)] (2) is two-dimensional (2D) (py-TTF-py = 2,6-bis(4'-pyridyl)tetrathiafulvalene). There are covalent coordination interactions between CuSCN and py-TTF-py and short S···S contacts between the py-TTF-py ligands for both compounds. Besides, C···S contacts exist between py-TTF-py ligands of the neighboring 2D networks in 2, which facilitate the charge transfer and supply efficient multidimensional pathways for carrier migration. As a result, 2 presented better semiconductor performance in comparison with that of 1. The performance of 2 related to the HTMs could be significantly improved by modulating the electronic state of the TTFs-CuSCN framework via oxidative doping. The iodine-doped 2D material (2-I2) gives the most excellent conductivity and carrier mobility, which might be a potential new HTM.

Abstract
Electrocrystallization of the bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene (BEDT-TTF) organic donor in the presence of the [Fe(ClCNAn)3]3- tris(chlorocyananilato)ferrate(III) paramagnetic anion in different stoichiometric ratios and solvent mixtures afforded two different hybrid systems formulated as [BEDT-TTF]4[Fe(ClCNAn)3]·3H2O (1) and [BEDT-TTF]5[Fe(ClCNAn)3]2·2CH3CN (2) (An = anilato). Compounds 1 and 2 present unusual structures without the typical segregated organic and inorganic layers, where layers of 1 are formed by Λ and Δ enantiomers of the anionic paramagnetic complex together with mixed-valence BEDT-TTF tetramers, while layers of 2 are formed by Λ and Δ enantiomers of the paramagnetic complex together with dicationic BEDT-TTF dimers and monomers. Compounds 1 and 2 show semiconducting behaviors with room-temperature conductivities of ca. 6 × 10-3 S cm-1 (ambient pressure) and 1 × 10-3 S cm-1 (under applied pressure of 12.1 GPa), respectively, due to strong dimerization between the donors. Magnetic measurements performed on compound 1 indicate weak antiferromagnetic coupling between high-spin FeIII (SFe = 5/2) and mixed-valence radical cation diyads (BEDT-TTF)2+ (Srad = 1/2) mediated by the anilate ligands, together with an important Pauli paramagnetism typical for conducting systems.

Abstract
The series of salts β''-(BEDT-TTF)2[(H2O)(NH4)2M(C2O4)3]·18-crown-6 show ambient-pressure superconductivity when M = Cr, Rh. Evidence indicates that the previously reported Cr and Rh salts show a bulk Berezinski-Kosterlitz-Thouless superconducting transition. The isostructural ruthenium and iridium salts are reported here. The Ir salt represents the first radical-cation salt to contain a 5d tris(oxalato)metalate anion. The Ru and Ir salts do not show superconductivity but instead undergo a broad chemically induced metal to insulator transition at 155 K for ruthenium and at 100 K for iridium. The c axes of the Ru and Ir salts are much shorter than those of the Rh and Cr salts. Thus, the more stable metallic state of the Cr and Rh salts is associated with the more strongly 2D electronic systems. The different low-temperature behavior of the Ru and Ir salts, which exhibit a smaller interlayer spacing, could originate from a structural change in the anionic layer which thus can be easily transmitted to the donor layers and generate a localized state. However, another possibility is that it originates from Berezinski-Kosterlitz-Thouless effects.
