Abstract
Benzyne derived from hexadehydrogenated Diels Alder (HDDA) reactions was found to be an efficient hydrosilylation acceptors. Various silanes can react smoothly with HDDA-derived benzyne to give the arylation products. Lewis acid such as boron trifluoride etherate can accelerate these hydrosilylation reactions. Polyhydromethylsiloxane (PHMS), a widely used organosilicon polymer, was also successfully modified using our method. About 5 % of Si-H bonds in the polymer were inserted by benzynes, giving a functional PHMS with much more solubility in methanol and with a blue-emitting fluorescence behavior. Mechanism research shows that the insertion of benzyne into the Si-H bond probably undergoes a synergistic pathway, which is quite different from the traditional radical-initiated hydrosilylation or transition-metal-catalyzed hydrosilylation.

Abstract
Transition metal-catalyzed direct decarboxylative transformations of aromatic carboxylic acids usually require high temperatures, which limit the substrate's scope, especially for late-stage applications. The development of the selective decarbonylative of carboxylic acid derivatives, especially the most fundamental aroyl chlorides, with stable and cheap electrophiles under mild conditions is highly desirable and meaningful, but remains challenging. Herein, a strategy of nickel-catalyzed decarbonylative alkylation of aroyl chlorides via phosphine/nitrogen ligand relay is reported. The simple phosphine ligand is found essential for the decarbonylation step, while the nitrogen ligand promotes the cross-electrophile coupling. Such a ligand relay system can effectively and orderly carry out the catalytic process at room temperature, utilizing easily available aroyl chlorides as an aryl electrophile for reductive alkylation. This discovery provides a new strategy for direct decarbonylative coupling, features operationally simple, mild conditions, and excellent functional group tolerance. The mild approach is applied to the late-stage methylation of various pharmaceuticals. Extensive experiments are carried out to provide insights into the reaction pathway and support the ligand relay process.

Abstract
A mild and regiodivergent aminoalkylation of unactivated alkyl halides is disclosed via a dual photoredox/nickel catalysis. Bipyridyl-type ligands without an ortho-substituent control the site-selective coupling at the original position, while ortho-disubstituted ligands tune the site-selectivity at a remote, unprefunctionalized position. Mechanistic studies combined with DFT calculations give insight into the mechanism and the origins of the ligand-controlled regioselectivity. Notably, this redox-neutral, regiodivergent alkyl-alkyl coupling features mild conditions, broad substrate scope for both alkyl coupling partners, and excellent site-selectivity and offers a straightforward way for α-alkylation of tertiary amines to synthesize structurally diverse alkylamines and value-added amino acid derivatives.

Abstract
The C-N axially chiral N-arylpyrrole motifs are privileged scaffolds in numerous biologically active molecules and natural products, as well as in chiral ligands/catalysts. Asymmetric synthesis of N-arylpyrroles, however, is still challenging, and the simultaneous creation of contiguous C-N axial and central chirality remains unknown. Herein, a diastereo- and atroposelective synthesis of N-arylpyrroles enabled by light-induced phosphoric acid catalysis has been developed. The key transformation is a one-pot, three-component oxo-diarylation reaction, which simultaneously creates a C-N axial chirality and a central quaternary stereogenic center. A broad range of unactivated alkynes were readily employed as a reaction partner in this transformation, and the N-arylpyrrole products are obtained in good yields, with excellent enantioselectivities and very good diastereoselectivities. Notably, the N-arylpyrrole skeletons represent interesting structural motifs that could be used as chiral ligands and catalysts in asymmetric catalysis.

Abstract
Here, we report the first example of Ni-catalyzed asymmetric hydrosilylation of 1,1-disubstituted allenes with high level of regioselectivities and enantioselectivities. The key to achieve this stereoselective hydrosilylation reaction was the development of the SPSiOL-derived bisphosphite ligands (SPSiPO). This protocol features broad substrate scope, excellent functional group, and heterocycle tolerance, thus provides a versatile method for the construction of enantioenriched tertiary allylsilanes in a straightforward and atom-economic manner. DFT calculations were performed to reveal the reaction mechanism and the origins of the enantioselectivity.

Abstract
In principle, catalytic dehydrogenative silylation and mono/dihydrosilylation tandem reactions of terminal alkynes with hydrosilanes provide gem-disilylated alkenes or gem-trisilylated alkanes, but very little progress has been made. Herein, we report organocalcium-complex-catalyzed dehydrogenative silylation and mono/dihydrosilylation tandem reactions of terminal alkynes with hydrosilanes in one pot, which produce gem-disilylated alkenes in moderate yields and gem-trisilylated alkanes in high yields. We also briefly demonstrate that the synthesized gem-disilylated alkenes can be easily transformed into other organosilanes.

Abstract
A new type of chirality, orientational chirality, consisting of a tetrahedron center and a remotely anchored blocker, has been discovered. The key structural element of this chirality is characterized by multiple orientations directed by a through-space functional group. The multi-step synthesis of orientational chiral targets was conducted by taking advantage of asymmetric nucleophilic addition, Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling and Sonogashira coupling. An unprecedented catalytic species showing a five-membered ring consisting of C (sp2)-Br-Pd-C (sp2) bonds was isolated during performing Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling. X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the species structure and absolute configuration of chiral orientation products. Based on X-ray structures, a model was proposed for the new chirality phenomenon to differentiate the present molecular framework from previous others. DFT computational study presented the relative stability of individual orientatiomers. This discovery would be anticipated to result in a new stereochemistry branch and to have a broad impact on chemical, biomedical, and material sciences in the future.

Abstract
Double hydrosilylation of alkynes represents a straightforward method to synthesize bis(silane)s, yet it is challenging if α-substituted vinylsilanes act as the intermediates. Here, a cobalt-catalyzed regiodivergent double hydrosilylation of arylacetylenes is reported for the first time involving this challenge, accessing both vicinal and geminal bis(silane)s with exclusive regioselectivity. Various novel bis(silane)s containing Si-H bonds can be easily obtained. The gram-scale reactions could be performed smoothly. Preliminarily mechanistic studies demonstrated that the reactions were initiated by cobalt-catalyzed α-hydrosilylation of alkynes, followed by cobalt-catalyzed β-hydrosilylation of the α-vinylsilanes to deliver vicinal bis(silane)s, or hydride-catalyzed α-hydrosilylation to give geminal ones. Notably, these bis(silane)s can be used for the synthesis of high-refractive-index polymers (nd up to 1.83), demonstrating great potential utility in optical materials.

Abstract
Geminal bis(silanes) are unique compounds with interesting properties. The most straightforward way to access them is double hydrosilylation of alkynes, which was established only recently. Previous articles about transition metal-catalysed double hydrosilylation show that terminal aryl alkynes are a challenge. We report on cobalt(II) and iron(III) complexes with the easy-to-synthesise N,N,N-tridentate hydrazone ligand being active precatalysts in Markovnikov-selective double hydrosilylation of terminal aryl alkynes. The influence of the hydrazone ligand structure and the potential role of the sodium triethylborohydride activator were studied. Sets of geminal bis(silanes) with two identical or different silyl groups were synthesised, showing the applicability of the reported method.

Nevertheless, efficient structural elaborations of alkynes in chemical synthesis, especially asymmetric multifunctionalization of alkynes, remain largely unexplored. It is thus imperative to develop new asymmetric synthetic approaches, making use of these richly available chemical feedstocks, and enabling their conversion to value-added chiral molecules. Here, we disclose our findings on highly enantioselective multifunctionalization of alkynes by merging photochemistry and chiral phosphoric acid catalysis. Our reported one-pot synthetic protocol is applicable to all types of alkyne substrates, incorporating all three reactants in a fully atom-economic fashion to produce optically enriched tetrasubstituted triaryl- and diarylmethanes, important structural scaffolds in medicinal chemistry and biological sciences.

Abstract
Pd-catalyzed sequential hydroamination of readily available 1,3-enynes is reported. The redox-neutral process provides an efficient route to synthesize a broad scope of imidazolidinones, thiadiazolidines, and imidazolidines. Asymmetric sequential hydroamination generates a series of synthetically valuable, enantioenriched imidazolidinones. Mechanistic studies revealed that the transformation occurred via an intermolecular enyne hydroamination pathway to give an allene intermediate. Subsequent intramolecular hydroamination of the allene intermediate proceeded under the Curtin-Hammett principle to provide enantioenriched imidazolidinone products.

Abstract
Chiral organoborons are of great value in asymmetric synthesis, functional materials, and medicinal chemistry. The development of chiral bis(boryl) alkanes, especially optically enriched 1,1-diboron compounds, has been greatly inhibited by the lack of direct synthetic protocols. Therefore, it is very challenging to develop a simple and effective strategy to obtain chiral 1,1-diborylalkanes. Herein, we develop an enantioselective copper-catalyzed cascade double hydroboration of terminal alkynes and highly enantioenriched gem-diborylalkanes were readily obtained. Our strategy uses simple terminal alkynes and two different boranes to construct valuable chiral gem-bis(boryl) alkanes with one catalytic and one ligand pattern, which represents the simplest and most straightforward strategy for constructing such chiral gem-diborons. Optically enriched 1,1-diboron compounds are significantly underdeveloped because of the paucity of the straightforward synthetic protocols. Herein, the authors report an enantioselective copper-catalyzed cascade double hydroboration of terminal alkynes to access highly enantioenriched gem-diborylalkanes.

Abstract
A copper-catalyzed regioselective Markovnikov 3,4-hydrosilylation of 2-substituted 1,3-dienes has been accomplished. A wide range of 2-substituted 1,3-dienes and trihydrosilanes are compatible under the optimal conditions. The bisphosphine ligand with a rigid backbone provides the Markovnikov 3,4-hydrosilylation product in better yield and selectivity. Besides, the synthetic utilities of the allylsilanes also were demonstrated by their flexible derivatizations.

Abstract
Optically active organosilanes have been demonstrated to be versatile chiral reagents in synthetic chemistry since the early seminal contributions by Sommer and Corriu. Among these silicon-containing chiral architectures, monohydrosilanes, which bear a Si-H bond, hold a unique position because of their facile transformations through stereospecific Si-carbon or Si-heteroatom bond-formation reactions. In addition, those compounds have also been leveraged as chiral reagents for alcohol resolution, chiral auxiliaries, mechanistic probes, as well as potential optoelectronic materials. This Minireview comprehensively summarizes the synthesis and synthetic applications of silicon-stereogenic monohydrosilanes, particularly the advances in the transition-metal-catalyzed asymmetric synthesis of this class of functional molecules.

Abstract
Density functional theory calculations were performed to investigate the cobalt-catalyzed intermolecular hydroarylation/cyclization of 1,6-enynes with N-pyridylindoles. The computations reveal that the reaction begins with the oxidative cyclization of 1,6-enyne to afford the five-membered cobaltacycle, from which the metal-assisted σ-bond metathesis/C-C reductive elimination led to the final hydroarylation/cyclization product. The initial oxidative cyclization constitutes the rate-determining step of the overall reaction. The steric repulsion and π···π interaction were found to play a crucial role in dictating the experimentally observed enantioselectivity.

Abstract
Catalytic sequential hydrosilylation of 1,3-enynes and 1,4-enynes promoted by cobalt complexes derived from bisphosphines are presented. Site- and stereoselective Si-H addition of primary silanes to 1,3-enynes followed by sequential intramolecular diastereo- and enantioselective Si-H addition afforded enantioenriched cyclic alkenylsilanes with simultaneous construction of a carbon-stereogenic center and a silicon-stereogenic center. Reactions of 1,4-enynes proceeded through sequential isomerization of the alkene moiety followed by site- and stereoselective hydrosilylation. A wide range of alkenylsilanes were afforded in high efficiency and selectivity. Functionalization of the enantioenriched silanes containing a stereogenic center at silicon delivered a variety of chiral building blocks that are otherwise difficult to access.

Abstract
Sequential double hydrofunctionalizationalization of alkynes is a powerful method to construct useful vicinal compounds. Herein, we report a cobalt-catalyzed sequential hydrosilylation/hydrohydrazidation of alkynes to afford 1,2-N,Si compounds via ligand relay catalysis. A phenomenon of ligand relay is found that the tridentate anionic N-ligand (OPAQ) could capture the cobalt ion from bidentate neutral P-ligand (Xantphos) cobalt complex. This protocol uses three abundant chemical feedstocks, alkynes, silanes, and diazo compounds, and also features operationally simple, mild conditions, low catalyst loading (1 mol%), and excellent functional group tolerance. The 1,2-N,Si compounds can be easily further derivatized to afford various substituted silane derivatives via Si-H functionalization, alcohols via Fleming-Tamao oxidation, free amines and amides via N-N bond cleavage and protection. The asymmetric reaction could also be carried out to afford chiral products with up to 86% ee. The ligand relay has been supported by control experiments and absorption spectra. In organic chemistry, performing sequential catalytic cycles with a single catalyst improves efficiency. Here the authors present a methodology to functionalize alkynes with nitrogen and silicon atoms, through two catalytic cycles with a homogeneous cobalt catalyst, which is bound to different ligands in each cycle.

Abstract
A palladium complex coordinated with a chiral SIPHOS ligand was evaluated as an efficient catalyst for asymmetric hydrosilylation of β-silyl styrenes with trichlorosilane and 23 1,2-bis(silyl) chiral compounds were produced. Good to excellent enantioselectivities were observed with 1-aryl-2-silyl ethanols, where the trichlorosilyl groups of the hydrosilylation products were selectively converted into a hydroxyl group in the presence of pre-installed trialkylsilyl groups. Asymmetric hydrosilylation of β-silyl styrenes followed by methylation of the trichlorosilyl group gave stable 1,2-bis(silyl) chiral compounds 4 with excellent yields. DFT calculations of hydridopalladium B coordinated with a SIPHOS ligand, an intermediate of the hydrosilylation reaction, established the optical structures to be energy minima, and the structural information could well illustrate the enantioselectivity for the hydrosilylation reaction.

Abstract
Orientational chirality was discovered and characterized by a C(sp)–C(sp
3
) axis-anchored chiral center and a remotely anchored blocker. X-ray structural analysis proved that orientatiomers are stabilized by through-space functional groups, making it possible for 1
R
- or
S
-chiral center to exhibit 3 orientational isomers simply by rotating operations. A new model system was proposed, fundamentally different from the traditional Felkin–Ahn-type or Cram-type models. In these traditional models, chiral C(sp
3
) center and blocking C(sp
2
) carbons are connected adjacently, and there exist 6 energy barriers during rotating along the C(sp
2
)−C(sp
3
) axis. In comparison, the present orientational chirality model shows that a chiral C(sp)–C(sp
3
) carbon is remotely located from a blocking group. Thus, it is focused on the steric dialog between a chiral C(sp
3
) center and a remotely anchored functional group. There exist 3 energy barriers for either (
R
)– or (
S
)–C(sp)–C(sp
3
) stereogenicity in the new model. Chiral amide auxiliary was proven to be an excellent chiral auxiliary in controlling rotations of orientatiomers to give complete stereoselectivity. The asymmetric synthesis of individual orientatiomers was conducted via multistep synthesis by taking advantage of the Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling and Sonogashira coupling reactions. Density functional theory computational study presented optimized conformers and relative energies for individual orientatiomers. This discovery would be anticipated to result in a new stereochemistry topic and have a broad impact on chemical, biomedical, and material sciences in the future.

Abstract
The hydrosilylation of alkynes is a chief chemical method for accessing a range of alkenylsilanes, which can be derivatized to obtain value-added hydrocarbons and utilized in diverse applications. While noble metal-based catalytic procedures have shown great success in accessing vinylsilanes within the context of both academia and industry, replacing the noble metals with cheaper and more abundant base metals has recently drawn significant interest due to their catalytic sustainability and competencies including unprecedented reactivity that could expand chemical tools for accessing other types of silicon-containing hydrocarbons. During the past few years, a number of well-defined, robust cobalt-catalyst platforms that broadly operate either the Chalk-Harrod or a modified Chalk-Harrod mechanism have emerged as a new frontier in the field of selective alkyne hydrosilylation. This review describes the main features of cobalt catalyst systems recently documented for the hydrosilylation of alkynes with a strong emphasis on ligand design and reaction pathways involving Co-H and/or Co-silyl species-mediated elementary transformations to achieve Markovnikov/anti-Markovnikov hydrosilylations as well as new migratory transformations.

Abstract
Enantioenriched 1,1-silylboryl alkanes possess silyl and boryl groups that are both connected to the same stereogenic carbon center at well-defined orientations. As these chiral multifunctionalized compounds potentially offer two synthetic handles, they are highly valued building blocks in asymmetric synthesis as well as medicinal chemistry. Despite the potential usefulness, efficient synthetic approaches for their preparation are scarce. Seeking to address this deficiency, an enantioselective cobalt-catalyzed hydrosilylation/hydroboration cascade of terminal alkynes has been realized. This protocol constitutes an impressive case of chemo-, regio-, and stereoselectivity wherein the two different hydrofunctionalization events are exquisitely controlled by a single set of metal catalyst and ligand, an operation which would usually require two separate catalytic systems. Downstream transformations of enantioenriched 1,1-silyboryl alkanes led to various valuable chiral compounds. Mechanistic studies suggest that the present reaction undergoes highly regioselective and stereocontrolled sequential hydrosilylation and hydroboration processes.

Abstract
Here, we describe simple B(C6F5)3-catalyzed mono- and dihydrosilylation reactions of terminal alkynes by using a silane-tuned chemoselectivity strategy, affording vinylsilanes and unsymmetrical geminal bis(silanes). This strategy is applicable to the dihydrosilylation of both aliphatic and aryl terminal alkynes with different silane combinations. Gram-scale synthesis and conducting the reaction without the exclusion of air and moisture demonstrate the practicality of this methodology. The synthetic utility of the resulting products was further highlighted by the structural diversification of geminal bis(silanes) through transforming the secondary silane into other silyl groups. Comprehensive theoretical calculations combined with kinetical isotope labeling studies have shown that a prominent kinetic differentiation between the hydrosilylation of alkynes and vinylsilane is responsible for the chemoselective construction of unsymmetrical 1,1-bis(silanes). A B(C6F5)3/silane-based system enables the chemoselective dihydrosilylation of terminal alkynes. Using a combination of different types of hydrosilanes, a series of unsymmetrical or symmetrical 1,1-bis(silanes) could be constructed.![]()

Abstract
Regiodivergent addition reactions provide straightforward and atom-economic approaches to access different regioisomers. However, the regio-chemistry control to access all the possible results is still challenging especially for the reaction involving multiple addition steps. Herein, we reported regio-controllable cobalt-catalyzed sequential hydrosilylation/hydroboration of arylacetylenes, delivering all the possible regio-outcomes with high regioselectivities (up to >20/1 rr for all the cases). Each regioisomer of value-added silylboronates could be efficiently and regioselectively obtained from the same materials. The adjustment of the ligands of cobalt catalysts combined with dual catalysis relay strategy is the key to achieve regio-chemistry control. This regio-controllable research might inspire the exploration of the diversity-oriented synthesis that involves multiple additions and provide full sets of regioisomers of other synthetic useful molecules.

Abstract
Enantioselective cobalt-catalyzed one-pot hydrosilylation and hydroboration of terminal alkynes has been developed employing a cobalt catalyst generated from Co(acac)2 and (R,R)-Me-Ferrocelane. A variety of terminal alkynes undergo this asymmetric transformation, affording the corresponding gem-(borylsilyl)alkane products with high enantioselectivity (up to 98 % ee). This one-pot reaction combines (E)-selective hydrosilylation of alkynes and consecutive enantioselective hydroboration of (E)-vinylsilanes with one chiral cobalt catalyst. This protocol represents the most straightforward approach to access versatile chiral gem-(borylsilyl)alkanes from readily available alkynes with commercially available cobalt salt and chiral ligand.

Abstract
Transition metal catalyzed asymmetric hydrofunctionalization of readily available unsaturated hydrocarbons presents one of the most straightforward and atom-economic protocols to access valuable optically active products. For decades, noble transition metal catalysts have laid the cornerstone in this field, on account of their superior reactivity and selectivity. In recent years, from an economical and sustainable standpoint, first-row, earth-abundant transition metals have received considerable attention, due to their high natural reserves, affordable costs, and low toxicity. Meanwhile, the earth-abundant metal catalyzed hydrofunctionalization reactions have also gained much interest and been investigated gradually. However, since chiral ligand libraries for earth-abundant transition-metal catalysis are limited to date, the development of highly enantioselective versions remains a significant challenge. This Account summarizes our recent efforts in developing suitable chiral ligands for iron and cobalt catalysts and their applications in the highly enantioselective hydrofunctionalization reactions (hydroboration and hydrosilylation) of alkenes and alkynes. In ligand design, we envisioned that chiral unsymmetric NNN-tridentate (UNT) ligand scaffolds could promote these enantioselective transformations with earth-abundant metals. Therefore, several types of chiral UNT ligands were designed and prepared in our laboratory, utilizing readily available natural amino acids as chiral sources. In the very beginning, chiral oxazoline iminopyridine (OIP) ligands were proposed and investigated through the rational combination of nitrogen-containing ligand scaffolds. After a systematic survey of the ligand effects, the imine moiety in the rigid OIP ligands was replaced by a conformationally more flexible amine unit, leading to the construction of reactive oxazoline aminoisopropylpyridine (OAP) ligands. Subsequently, imidazoline iminopyridine (IIP) and thiazoline iminopyridine (TIP) ligands were prepared by altering the oxygen atom of oxazoline with nitrogen and sulfur linkers, respectively. To further expand the chiral ligand library, other tridentate ligands containing a twisted pincer, anionic, and nonrigid backbone were also designed and synthesized, including iminophenyl oxazolinyl phenylamine (IPOPA) and imidazoline phenyl picolinamide (ImPPA). The efficacy of these chiral UNT ligands for asymmetric induction in iron and cobalt catalysis has been demonstrated through asymmetric hydrofunctionalization of alkenes and asymmetric sequential hydrofunctionalization of alkynes, which exhibit excellent reactivity as well as high chemo-, regio-, and stereoselectivity with broad functional group tolerance. Notably, highly regio- and enantioselective hydrofunctionalization of challenging substrates, such as 1,1-disubstituted aryl alkenes and terminal aliphatic alkenes, was also achieved. Furthermore, the development of asymmetric sequential isomerization/hydroboration of internal alkenes and sequential hydrofunctionalization of alkynes further demonstrates the synthetic power of these catalytic systems. The chiral enantioenriched products obtained by these methodologies could be potentially utilized in organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry, and materials science. We believe that our continuous efforts in this field would be beneficial to the development of asymmetric earth-abundant metal catalysis.

Abstract
The first iron-catalyzed defluorosilylation of unactivated gem-difluoroalkenes was developed, delivering gem-disilylated alkenes and (E)-silylated alkenes with excellent efficiency. This protocol features good functional group compatibility and excellent regio- and stereoselectivity, enabling the late-stage silylation of biologically relevant compounds, thus providing good opportunities for applications in medicinal chemistry. Preliminary mechanistic studies and DFT calculations reveal that a nucleophilic addition and elimination of the second C-F bond might be involved in the disilylation catalytic system, demonstrating unusual reactivity characteristics of iron catalysis.

Abstract
![]()
A bench-stable cobalt(II)
complex, with 3N-donor socket-type benzimidazole-imine-2H-imidazole ligand is reported as a precatalyst for regioselective
hydrosilylation of terminal alkynes. Both aromatic and aliphatic alkynes
could be effectively hydrosilylated with primary, secondary, and tertiary
silane to give α-vinylsilanes in high yields with excellent
Markovnikov selectivity and extensive functional-group tolerance.
Catalyst loading varies within 0.5–0.05 mol %, which is one
of the most efficient reported so far in the literature on cobalt-catalyzed
alkyne hydrosilylation.
