Abstract
This research proposes a simple and novel strategy for the green detection of antibiotics along with the reduction of microplastic and humic acid (HA) hazards. The entire process is based on a single-step solvent-sieving method to separate HA into insoluble (IHA) and soluble (SHA) components, subsequently recombining and designing the application according to the original characteristics of selected fractions in accordance with the zero-waste principle. IHA was applied as a dispersive solid phase extraction (DSPE) sorbent without chemical modification for the enrichment of trace MACs in complex biological matrices. The recovery of MACs was 74.06-100.84 % in the range of 2.5-1000 μg∙kg-1. Furthermore, SHA could be combined with biodegradable polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) to prepare multifunctional composite films. SHA endows the PVA film with favorable mechanical properties, excellent UV shielding as well as oxidation resistance performance. Compared with pure PVA, the tensile strength, toughness, antioxidant and UV-protection properties were increased to 157.3 Mpa, 258.6 MJ·m-3, 78.6 % and 60 % respectively. This study achieved a green and economically valuable utilization of all components of waste HA, introduced a novel approach for monitoring and controlling harmful substances and reducing white pollution. This has significant implications for promoting sustainable development and recovering valuable resources.

Hydrophilic molecularly imprinted resin-hexagonal boron nitride composite as a new adsorbent for selective extraction and determination of a carcinoid tumor biomarker in urine. Anal Chim Acta 2024; 1294:342289. [PMID: 38336412 DOI: 10.1016/j.aca.2024.342289] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 09/25/2023] [Revised: 01/17/2024] [Accepted: 01/24/2024] [Indexed: 02/12/2024]
Abstract
BACKGROUND The detection of disease biomarkers in biological samples plays an important role in early diagnosis and treatment of carcinoid tumor. However, due to the complexity of biological samples and the extremely low concentration of disease biomarkers, sample pretreatment is still the bottleneck of achieving accurate quantitative determination. In this work, new hydrophilic molecularly imprinted resin-hexagonal boron nitride (HMIR-h-BN) composites were developed and used as a new solid phase extraction (SPE) adsorbent for selective detection of 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA), a biomarker of carcinoid tumor, in urine. RESULTS Twenty-two types of HMIR-h-BN were successfully synthesized through growing hydrophilic molecularly imprinted resin on surface of activated two-dimensional h-BN nanosheets, and preparation parameters affecting the adsorption performance of HMIR-h-BN were investigated and optimized through adsorption experiments. HMIR-h-BN #19 (the ratio of resorcinol to hexamethylenetetramine: 6:3; the dosage of h-BN: 300 mg; the dosage of dummy template: 0.12 mmol; the imprinting time: 4 h) has demonstrated to be the optimal material for efficient separation and extraction of 5-HIAA. Combined with HPLC-UV, the limit of detection and the limit of quantification of 5-HIAA in real urine samples were 9.4 ng mL-1 and 31.3 ng mL-1, respectively, the coefficient of determination (R2) was 0.9996 in the linear range of 0.1-300 μg mL-1 and the relative recoveries ranged from 86.9 % to 97.7 % with RSD ≤5.1 %. Moreover, after being processed by HMIR-h-BN-SPE, there are no interferences from other peaks at the peak position of 5-HIAA. SIGNIFICANCE The HMIR-h-BN composite has been demonstrated to be capable of selective extraction of 5-HIAA from urine samples and have a significant purification effect. Based on the established HMIR-h-BN-SPE-HPLC-UV method, accurate quantitative determination of 5-HIAA in urine samples was achieved, which is expected to be applied in the early diagnostic of carcinoid tumor.

Abstract
Glycomacropeptide (GMP) is a bioactive peptide of high value, rich in glycosylation sites and with physiological and dietary therapeutic value. The enrichment and detection of GMP facilitates the accurate quantification and the identification of adulteration of GMP in food products. In GMP, sialic acid is an abundant glycosyl group and is mainly located at the end of the sugar chain. Here, we propose a novel GMP enrichment strategy based on the affinity of sialic acid for phenylboronic acid groups that shift with environmental pH. As an enrichment material, mesoporous silica nanoparticles were progressively modified with aminopropyl and phenylboronic acid groups. The developed material showed excellent selectivity for sialic acid in the presence of galactose and fucose as interferents. The adsorption behavior of sialic acid-containing GMP fits the Langmuir adsorption model, offering a recovery of 71.72% (in terms of sialic acid content) and a GMP relative purity of 0.957. Results from sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and size exclusion chromatography confirm that the enriched GMP contains almost no other unexpected proteins and peptides, indicating that the developed strategy holds promise for purifying GMP in various dairy systems.

Abstract
This review mainly focuses on the development and application of ordered mesoporous silica materials for solid-phase extraction in recent years. It overviews not only bare mesoporous silica but also the functionalized mesoporous silica with organic groups, molecularly imprinted polymers, and magnetic materials. These mesoporous silica materials were used as the extraction adsorbents in cartridge solid-phase extraction, dispersive solid-phase extraction, magnetic solid-phase extraction, micro-solid-phase extraction and matrix solid phase dispersion. Coupled with atomic emission spectrometry, chromatography or other detection methods, these techniques efficiently extracted and sensitively determined various targets, such as metal ions, perfluorocarboxylic acids, pesticides, drugs, endocrine disruptors, phenols, flavanones, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, parabens and so on. Based on unique advantages of mesoporous silica materials, the developed analytical method successfully analyzed different matrix samples, like environmental water samples, soil samples, food samples, biological samples and cosmetics. In addition, the prospects of these materials in solid-phase extraction are presented, which can offer an outlook for the further development and applications.

Abstract
A simple and reliable analytical method was developed for the simultaneous determination of 11 macrolides in swine, chicken, bovine, and sheep tissues (muscle, liver, kidney, and fat), as well as eggs. Samples were extracted using a mixture of acetonitrile, ethyl acetate, and methanol; dispersive solid-phase extraction purification was then performed using multi-walled carbon nanotubes as the sorbent. The analytes were separated through ultra-high performance liquid chromatography and detected by electrospray ionization on a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer. The average recoveries ranged from 83.5% to 111.4%; the corresponding intra-day and inter-day relative standard deviations were less than 13.6% and 16.4%, respectively. The limit of detection and quantification of the eggs were 0.1-0.6 and 2.0 μg/kg, respectively. For other tissues, the limits of detection and quantification were 0.1-2.0 μg/kg and 5.0 μg/kg, respectively. The proposed method was successfully employed for the analysis of real samples to demonstrate its applicability.

Abstract
Core-satellite-structured magnetic nanosorbents (MNs) used for the selective extraction of macrolide antibiotics (MACs) were prepared in this study. The MNs (core-satellite polydopamine-coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles-hollow porous molecularly imprinted polymer) consisted of polydopamine-coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles (Fe3O4@PDA) "core" linked to numerous hollow porous molecularly imprinted polymer (HPMIP) "satellites" with bridging amine functional groups. It is worth mentioning that HPMIPs act as "anchors" for selectively capturing target molecules. Polymers were characterized using TEM, SEM, FT-IR, VSM, and TGA and applied as magnetic dispersive solid-phase extraction (MDSPE) sorbents for the enrichment of trace MACs from a complex food matrix prior to quantification by HPLC-MS/MS. Nanocomposites revealed outstanding magnetic properties (36.1 emu g-1), a high adsorption capacity (103.6 μmol g-1), selectivity (IF = 3.2), and fast kinetic binding (20 min) for MACs. The multiple advantages of the novel core-satellite-structured magnetic molecularly imprinted nanosorbents were confirmed, which makes us believe that the preparation method of the core-satellite MNs can be applied to other fields involving molecular imprinting technology.

Abstract
A high-throughput method using a new ZIF-8@GO thin-film microextraction coating was established for determining macrolides and lincosamides in honey. The coating preparation parameters (ZIF-8@GO synthesis conditions, coating material proportions, dipping time) and analysis parameters (sample diluent solvent, adsorption and desorption conditions using the ZIF-8@GO coating) were optimized. The optimized parameters were: diluent solvent sodium carbonate/sodium bicarbonate buffer solution (pH 9), adsorption time 45 min, desorption time 5 min, desorption solvent 45:40:15 v/v/v methanol/acetonitrile/water. The extracted targets were determined by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. The recoveries of 10 analytes were 67.5-107.2% and the detection and quantification limits were 0.1-0.4 and 0.4-1.4 μg/kg, respectively. The method could analyze 96 samples per run. The minimal manual time and effort is required since the bulk of the sample processing is fully automated. It was a useful and efficient method for monitoring drug residues and was successfully used to analyze real samples.

Abstract
A simple, sensitive and efficient solid-phase extraction method, combined with ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-charged aerosol detection, was applied to the pre-concentration and determination of four triterpenoid saponins from Pulsatilla chinensis (P. chinensis) ultrasound extract samples. Mesoporous molecular sieve Santa Barbara Amorphous 15 (SBA-15) displayed higher selectivity compared to Mobil Composition of Matter 41 (MCM-41), NH2-SBA-15 and mesoporous carbon when it comes to being used in pretreatment methods. It was applied as an effective sorbent in the SPE for the enrichment of the target analytes. Additionally, several key experimental parameters including the kinds of sorbents, the amount of SBA-15, the elute pH and types of elution solvent were investigated in detail. Under the optimized conditions, the satisfactory linearity (r2 ≥ 0.9940) was acquired and the limits of detection reached 0.461-0.976 μg/mL for the target analytes. The recoveries ranged from 95.1%-103.2%. The experimental results showed that SBA-15 was a candidate material for the purification and concentration of target triterpenoid saponins from complex P. chinensis samples. The study provided theoretical support for the application of mesoporous materials in the field of drug separation and provided references for the extraction and determination of trace compounds in the complex systems of traditional Chinese medicine.

Macrolides are versatile broad-spectrum antibiotics whose activity stems from the presence of a macrolide ring. They are widely used in veterinary medicine to prevent and treat disease. However, because of their improper use and the absence of effective regulation, these compounds pose a threat to human health and the environment. Consequently, simple, quick, economical, and effective techniques are required to analyze macrolides in animal-derived foods, biological samples, and environmental samples. This paper presents a comprehensive overview of the pretreatment and analytical methods used for macrolides in various sample matrices, focusing on the developments since 2010. Pretreatment methods mainly include liquid-liquid extraction, solid-phase extraction, matrix solid-phase dispersion, and microextraction methods. Detection and quantification methods mainly include liquid chromatography (coupled to mass spectrometry or other detectors), electrochemical methods, capillary electrophoresis, and immunoassays. Furthermore, a comparison between the pros and cons of these methods and prospects for future developments are also discussed.

Abstract
Background and Objective:
A rapid, simple and environmental friendly supramolecular
solvent (SUPRAS) based liquid-liquid microextraction method for preconcentration of ciprofloxacin
(CIPRO), danofloxacin (DANO) and enrofloxacin (ENRO) from wastewater was developed.
Methods:
This microextraction technique was coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography
equipped with a diode array detector (HPLC-PDA) for detection and separation of the antibiotics. The
SUPRAS composed of decanoic acid and tricaprylymethylammonium chloride. Optimum conditions for
the extraction and preconcentration of all the antibiotics were obtained using surface response methodology
(RSM) based on Box-Behnken design.
Results:
Under optimum conditions, the limits of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ)
ranged from 0.06-0.14 µg L−1 and 0.22-0.47 μg L−1, respectively with the preconcentration factors ranging
from 153-241. The linear dynamic ranges were between LOQ and 850 µg L−1 with correlation coefficients
ranging from 0.9928 to 0.9999. The intra-day (n = 15) and inter-day (n = 5) precisions (expressed
in terms of %RSD) for 50 µg L−1 of CIPRO, DANO and ENRO were in the range of 3.3–4%
and 4.1–5.8%, respectively.
Conclusion:
Lastly, the developed method was used for the extraction, preconcentration and quantification
of selected CIPRO, DANO and ENRO in influent and effluent wastewater samples.

Preparation and Application of Molecularly Imprinted Monolithic Extraction Column for the Selective Microextraction of Multiple Macrolide Antibiotics from Animal Muscles. Polymers (Basel) 2019; 11:polym11071109. Abstract
This study aimed to prepare a molecularly imprinted monolithic extraction column (MIMC) inside a micropipette tip by situ polymerization with roxithromycin as the dummy template. The polymers possessed excellent adsorption capacity and class-specificity to multiple macrolide drugs. MIMC was directly connected to a syringe for template removal and for the optimization of extraction conditions without any other post-treatment of polymers. A liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometric method was developed for the selective microextraction and determination of macrolide antibiotics in animal muscles based on MIMC. High recoveries of 76.1–92.8% for six macrolides were obtained with relative standard deviations less than 10.4%. MIMC exhibited better retention ability and durability when compared with the traditional C18 and HLB cartridges. The proposed method shows a great potential for the analysis of macrolide drugs at the trace level in animal foodstuffs.

Abstract
In this paper, a simple and effective method for the determination of six macrolide antibiotics (MACs), including tylosin, tilmicosin, azithromycin, clarithromycin, roxithromycin, and kitasamycin, in the chicken sample using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) was developed based on a self-built porous aromatic framework- (PAF-) based solid phase sorbent. The main parameters influencing the extraction efficiency, such as sorbent amounts, type of the eluent, pH of the sample, and the eluent volume, were evaluated. Under the optimized condition, the limits of detection were from 0.2 to 0.5 μg·kg-1. The recoveries of the method ranged from 82.1% to 101.4% with the relative standard deviations less than 11.1%. All the results demonstrated that the established method is potential for the determination of macrolide antibiotics in food safety analysis and monitoring.
