Abstract
The widespread use of antibiotics in agricultural and animal husbandry to treat bacterial illnesses has resulted in a rise in antibiotic-resistant bacteria. These bacteria can grow when antibiotic residues are present in food items, especially in edible animal products. As a result, it is crucial to monitor and regulate the amounts of antibiotics in food. Magnetic analytical extractions (MAEs) have emerged as a potential approach for extracting antibiotic residues from food using magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs). Recent improvements in MAEs have resulted in the emergence of novel MNPs with better selectivity and sensitivity for the extraction of antibiotic residues from food samples. Consequently, this review paper addresses current developments in MAE for extracting antibiotic residues from edible samples. It also provides a critical analysis of contemporary MAE practices. The current issues and potential future developments in this field are also discussed, thereby providing a framework for future study paths.

Abstract
Fluoroquinolones (FQs) are a category of broadly used antibiotics. Development of an effective and sensitive approach for determination of trace FQs in environmental and food samples is still challenging. Herein, the hydroxyl-containing triazine-based conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs-OH) was constructed and served as SPE absorbent for the efficient enrichment of FQs. Based on DFT simulations, the excellent enrichment capacity between CMPs-OH and FQs was contributed by hydrogen bonding and π-π interactions. In combination with high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry, the proposed approach exhibited a wide linear range (0.2-400 ng L-1), low detection limits (0.05-0.15 ng L-1), and good intraday and interday precisions under optimal conditions. In addition, the established method was effectively utilized for the determination of FQs in fourteen samples with recoveries between 82.6 % and 109.2 %. This work provided a feasible sample pretreatment method for monitoring FQs in environmental and food matrices.

Abstract
Fluoroquinolone (FQ) antibiotics, one of the leading environmental pollutants, have ecotoxic effects that can accumulate through ecosystems and harm human health. The determination of FQs is still difficult due to the complex matrix, many interfering factors, and low concentration. Hence, a magnetic microporous organic network (MON) composite denoted as Fe3O4@MON-NH2@CM-β-CD with excellent FQ adsorption performance was prepared by β-CD covalent modification of a MON. Based on the existence of π-π packing, hydrophobic interaction, and hydrogen bonding between Fe3O4@MON-NH2@CM-β-CD and FQs, a new magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) method for the enrichment of FQs was developed. Under optimized MSPE conditions, five FQs were detected by HPLC-UV with good linearity (R2 ≥ 0.9989) in the range of 0.02-1 μg mL-1, and detection limits (S/N = 3) in the range of 0.0014-0.0023 μg mL-1. The satisfactory recoveries ranged from 93.1 to 116.2% with RSDs lower than 8.39% when applied to actual environmental water samples. These results revealed that Fe3O4@MON-NH2@CM-β-CD as an adsorbent for MSPE had excellent performance for FQ extraction from real samples, and the MON material types were expanded through the functionalization of MONs, which would have great potential for further application in various analytical methods.

Abstract
The excessive use of quinolones (QNs) has seriously threatened human health. In this study, a novel functionalized magnetic covalent organic framework Fe3O4@SiO2@Ah-COF was fabricated with biphenyl-3,3',5,5'-tetracarbaldehyde and hydrazine hydrate (85%) as monomers and was used as a magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) absorbent for the determination of 24 QNs in water and egg samples through ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS). The extraction parameters of MSPE were optimized, including pH, adsorbent dosage, adsorption time, and eluent type. An effective and rapid detection method was then established, which showed good linearity (R2 ≥ 0.9990), low limits of detection (0.003-0.036 μg L-1) and low limits of quantitation (0.008-0.110 μg L-1) for QNs. The good recoveries of 24 QNs in water and egg samples were in the range of 70.3-106.1% and 70.4-119.7%, respectively, with relative standard deviations lower than 10% (n = 5). As a result, Fe3O4@SiO2@Ah-COF is a promising magnetic adsorbent, and the established method was successfully applied for the determination of 24 QNs in water and egg samples.

Abstract
The goal of taking out As(III) from water is to reduce the detriment that poisonous metals can do to people and nature. A substance that can absorb As(III), TFPOTDB-SO3H, was made by combining 2,5-diaminobenzenesulfonic acid and 2,4,6-tris-(4-formylphenoxy)-1,3,5-triazine in a reaction that joins molecules together. This substance can adsorb As(III) very well and has excellent qualities like being easy to use again, separate substances, and filter out liquids. At pH = 8 and at room temperature, TFPOTDB-SO3H adsorbed a lot of As(III). It achieved a removal rate of 97.1 % within 10 min and could adsorb up to 344.8 mg/g. A research was conducted to investigate the effect of co-existing anions on the elimination of arsenic. The findings indicated that the presence of anions had a minimal adverse impact, reducing As(III) uptake by approximately 1-7 %. The kinetics of the uptake process were found to be controlled by the quasi-second order kinetic model, while the Langmuir isotherm model validated that the mechanism for As(III) removal was monolayer chemisorption. According to the thermodynamic analysis, the adsorption process was endothermic and occurred spontaneously. Moreover, even after 4 successive adsorption-desorption cycles, the adsorbent preserved a substantial uptake productivity of 88.86 % for As(III). The results collectively indicate that TFPOTDB-SO3H holds considerable promise for the efficient adsorption and elimination of As(III) ions from wastewater.

Abstract
Long-term intake of animal-derived foods with excessive fluoroquinolones (FQs) will cause damage to human health, so it is critical to establish a feasible approach for sensitive and rapid monitoring of FQs residues. In this study, a new cyclodextrin modified magnetic metal-organic frameworks (Fe3O4@UiO-66-CD) was successfully synthesized by amidation reaction and applied to magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) for FQs analysis. The adsorption behavior of Fe3O4@UiO-66-CD was consistent with the pseudo-second-order kinetics and Freundlich isothermal adsorption model, which indicated that the designed material had various interactions on FQs, such as host-guest interaction and π-π interaction. The parameters of MSPE were optimized and the determination method of norfloxacin, enrofloxacin, lomefloxacin and gatifloxacin was established by using MSPE combined with ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) and fluorescence detector (FLD). The method validation results displayed that the detection limits were 0.02-0.09 ng/mL, and the RSDs of intra-day and inter-day precision were less than 4.1 and 6.4 %, respectively. In the target FQs analysis of real honey and milk samples, the recoveries at different fortified concentrations were in the ranges of 88.4 % to 108.6 % with RSD ≤ 5.7 %. The results showed that the proposed method was sensitive, accurate and reliable for the determination of trace FQs in animal-derived foods.

Abstract
A zwitterionic magnetic microporous organic network (MMON-SO3H-NH2) with numerous amino and sulfonic acid ion-pare binding sites was designed and synthesized for efficient magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) of fluoroquinolones (FQs) from meat samples. The core-shell MMON-SO3H-NH2 offered large specific surface area, rapid magnetic responsiveness, good stability, and multiple binding sites for FQs. The density functional theory and independent gradient model evaluations confirmed hydrogen bonding, π-π and ion-pair interactions between MMON-SO3H-NH2 and FQs. Under the optimal conditions, the established MMON-SO3H-NH2-MSPE-HPLC-UV method gave wide linear range (0.15-1000 μg L-1), low limits of detection (0.05-4.5 μg L-1) and limits of quantitation (0.15-13 μg L-1), and high enrichment factors (82.1-99.6) using 3 mg of adsorbent. This work demonstrates that the preparation of zwitterionic MONs is an efficient way to promote the extraction performance of MONs for zwitterionic targets and provides an effective sample pretreatment method for enriching and monitoring FQs in complex food matrices.

Abstract
Effective capture of quinolones (QNs) in animal-derived food is a vital procedure for food safety monitoring. However, the lack of adsorption specificity and difficult to recycle in complex substrate conditions have been major problems for most of the adsorbents. In this work, a magnetic Fe3O4/MOF/COF composite (named Fe3O4@NH2-MIL-125@TpPa-SO3H) was successfully synthesized with good magnetic responsiveness and conspicuous affinity towards QNs. The Fe3O4/MOF/COF composite was used as a magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) adsorbent for pretreatment and determination of QNs in meat samples. Under optimal MSPE conditions in combination with high performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole orbitrap high resolution mass spectrometer (HPLC-Q-Orbitrap HRMS), the proposed method had good linearity (R2 ≥ 0.9978) from 0.01 to 100ng g-1, low limits of detection (0.0016 to 0.0940ng g-1), good precision with relative standard deviations lower than 5.8%. This method was effectively applied to the detection of 17 QNs in the spiked pork, chicken and beef samples with satisfactory recoveries from 83.9 to 106.2%. The separation selectivity mainly due to the π-π interaction, hydrogen bonding, and electrostatic attraction between QNs and the sulfonic acid and amino functional groups of the composite. After verification, the stability and reusability of the composite meet the requirements of complex matrix sample pretreatment. The developed MSPE method based on the magnetic Fe3O4/MOF/COF composite provided an ideal sample pretreatment alternative for determining trace QNs in complex matrixes with selectivity, simplicity, rapidity, and efficiency.

Abstract
Molecularly imprinting on covalent organic frameworks (MI-COF) is a promising way to prepare selective adsorbents for effective extraction of fluoroquinolones (FQs). However, the unstable framework structure and complex imprinting process are challenging for the construction of MI-COF. Here, we report a facile surface imprinting approach with dopamine to generate imprinted cavities on the surface of irreversible COF for highly efficient extraction of FQs in food samples. The irreversible-linked COF was fabricated from hexahydroxytriphenylene and tetrafluorophthalonitrile to ensure COF stability. Moreover, the introduction of dopamine surface imprinted polymer into COF provides abundant imprinted sites and endows excellent selectivity for FQs recognition against other antibiotics. Taking enrofloxacin as a template molecule, the prepared MI-COF gave an exceptional adsorption capacity of 581 mg g-1, a 2.2-fold enhancement of adsorption capacity compared with nonimprinted COF. The MI-COF was further explored as adsorbent to develop a novel solid-phase extraction method coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography for the simultaneous determination of enrofloxacin, norfloxacin and ciprofloxacin. The developed method gave the low limits of detection at 0.003-0.05 ng mL-1, high precision with relative standard deviations less than 3.5%. The recoveries of spiked FQs in food samples ranged from 80.4% to 110.7%.

Abstract
Extraction and determination of trace hazardous components from complex matrices continue to attract public attention. In this work, magnetic porous carbon (MPC) was prepared for efficient magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) of fluoroquinolone (FQ) antibiotics in food and water samples. To prepare the MPC, an Fe-based metal-organic framework (MIL-101(Fe)) was grown on a network of graphene oxide and multi-walled carbon nanotubes through a hydrothermal method, and then a carbonization process under a nitrogen atmosphere was carried out to obtain the MPC with high specific surface area and good magnetism. Four target FQs including ciprofloxacin (CIP), enrofloxacin (ENO), lomefloxacin (LOM) and ofloxacin (OFX) were enriched using the as-prepared MPC and determined by coupled high-performance liquid chromatography. Under the optimal conditions, the established MSPE-HPLC-UV detection method exhibited a linear range of 0.5-800 μg L-1 and detection limits of 0.11-0.18 μg L-1 with relative standard deviations (RSDs) of 0.5-4.8%. When applied in the determination of the above four FQs in real samples such as lake water, milk and pork, good recoveries between 85.2 and 103.7% were obtained, and the RSDs were less than 4.8%. This work indicates that the MPC material can be a good adsorption material and has good application prospects in antibiotics enrichment and/or removal from complex samples.

Abstract
A novel Zn@MGeo sorbent was easily constructed and can bind with FQs through the synergistic effect of electrostatic interaction and coordination. With the Zn@MGeo as sorbent, a MSPE-UHPLC-MS/MS method was established for simultaneous detection of FQs in complex matrices. The whole extraction process could be completed using 6.0 mg sorbent within 10 min under the optimal conditions. The established quantitative method obtained a wide linear range (0.01-200 μg/kg, R2 > 0.9987), high sensitivity (LODs: 0.005-0.05 μg/kg) and negligible matrix effect. The method was applied for analysis of real samples, with recoveries between 75.6% and 103.7%. In addition, the sorbent could be reused at least 9 times without reducing the adsorption performance. In general, the established method not only proposes a novel sorbent for FQs extraction, but also provides a powerful tool for rapid and sensitive detection of FQs in food matrices with practical application value.

Abstract
In this study, a novel magnetic covalent organic framework (Fe3O4@TAPB-BTT) was successfully synthesized under mild conditions. The prepared magnetic COF exhibited large surface area (876.3 m2 g-1), porous feature as well as sizeable π-conjugated network structure. Due to the above advantages, Fe3O4@TAPB-BTT showed good adsorptive performance for ultraviolet (UV) filters with adsorption capacities ranging from 80.8 to 120.1 mg g-1. Then the adsorbent was applied to magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) of UV filters in beverage samples, followed by UHPLC-MS/MS analysis. The established method showed good accuracy, precision, and reproducibility with satisfactory recoveries (76.9-95.6 %), low limits of detection (0.001-0.15 µg/L), and low relative standard deviations (<9.8 %). Besides, the adsorbent can be reutilized at least ten times, demonstrating satisfactory reusability. This work provided an effective method for the analysis and determination of UV filters in drinks.

Abstract
Microporous organic networks (MONs) are promising materials for the magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) of trace targets from diverse complex samples. However, all the reported magnetic MONs (MMONs) are mono-functionalized and synthesized by refluxing at high temperatures, which is not an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly method. Here, for the first time, we report the room-temperature fabrication of a novel dual-functionalized MMON (MMON-B) for the efficient MSPE of typical vanillin additives from food samples prior to high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The conjugated MMON-B with numerous -OH and -NH2 groups afforded good extraction for vanillins via π-π, hydrophobic, and hydrogen-bonding interactions. The factors affecting the extraction were studied in detail. Under the optimal conditions, the developed MMON-B-MSPE-HPLC-UV method exhibited wide linear range (0.50-1200 μg L-1), low limits of detection (0.10-0.15 μg L-1), and good reusability and stability. Therefore, MMON-B was successfully used to enrich vanillins in complex food samples. The morphology and extraction efficiency of the room-temperature synthesized MMON-B were comparable with those of the MMON-B synthesized via the conventional reflux method, indicating that the room-temperature fabrication method is a good alternative to the reflux method. This study presents the feasibility of using a room-temperature method for synthesizing dual-functionalized MONs, and the findings may significantly promote the application of MONs in the MSPE of trace targets from complex matrices.

Abstract
A novel 4 + 2 covalent magnetic organic framework (COF) with core-shell structure was synthesized for the first time with N, N, N', N'-Tetrakis (4-aminophenyl)-1, 4- benzenediamine (TPDA) and 2, 6-Pyridinedicarboxaldehyde (PCBA) at room temperature. The synthesized magnetic TPDA-PCBA-COF has a large specific surface area and superparamagnetism, which makes it an ideal sorbent for trace analytes enrichment. To this end, we combined it with magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) to enrich trace parabens in environmental water. The parameters affecting the enrichment efficiency of magnetic solid phase extraction, such as the amount of Fe3O4@TPDA-PCBA-COF, extraction time, pH of samples, salt concentration, desorption solvent volume and desorption time, were optimized. A simple method for extraction and determination of parabens in water samples by MSPE combined with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was established under optimized conditions. The validation results revealed that the linear ranges were at 1.0-5.0 × 102 ng mL-1 with R value between 0.9915 and 0.9999, the spiked recoveries were in the range of 82.8% to 99.9% and RSDs were lower than 10%. The method was further applied to the determination of parabens in water samples, with recoveries in the range of 82.2% to 110.0% and RSDs ≤ 7.7%. These results suggest that the magnetic TPDA-PCBA-COF could be used as a promising adsorbent for efficient extraction and quantitation of parabens in environmental water samples.

Abstract
Enrofloxacin (ENR) and sulfachloropyridazine combined with trimethoprim (TMP) were commonly used in poultries to treat bacterial infections. In this study, the pharmacokinetics of these antibiotics in four tissues of Taihe black-boned silky fowls was studied. The results showed that these drugs were absorbed and distributed rapidly, with the highest concentration showing in skin. Meanwhile, ENR and its metabolite ciprofloxacin (CIP) and TMP were depleted slowly, particularly in skin with the elimination half-lives being 37.1, 36.9, and 72.7 days, respectively. It may be attributed to the abundance of melanin in skin. The dietary risk assessment suggested that the long-term dietary intakes of ENR, CIP, and TMP showed a considerable threat to human health. Based on the experiment, the withdrawal times of 284 days for ENR + CIP and 159 days for TMP were acquired, which showed that these drugs are not appropriate for the application in Taihe black-boned silky fowls.

Abstract
The composition of the traditional Chinese medicine compound preparation is complex, while the content of each active ingredient is extremely low, which brings difficulties to the plasma concentration detection. In this study, the magnetic covalent-organic frameworks were synthesized by a simple one-step Schiff base reaction and applied for the specific extraction of trace angoroside C in rat plasma prior to ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry detection. The synthesized magnetic covalent-organic frameworks have high magnetic responsiveness (35.67 emu·g-1 ), large surface area (110.9 m2 ·g-1 ), and strong stability. The as-prepared material can quickly extract angoroside C from plasma with high extraction efficiency, be easily separated with a magnet afterward, and can be reused for at least five times. The established method was systematically validated showing good linearity (0.1-5 ng·ml-1 ), low limit of quantification (0.1 ng·ml-1 ), good accuracy (93.18%-105.36%), and good precision (percentage relative standard deviation 3.60%-10.90%). Finally, the method was used to the pharmacokinetic study of trace angoroside C in rats after oral administration of Xuanbo Shuangsheng Granule.

In this work, polyacrylonitrile (PAN)/covalent organic framework TpPa–1 nanofiber was prepared by an electrospinning technique and used as an adsorbent for dispersive solid-phase extraction (dSPE) of five QAs in the honey and pork. The morphology and structure of the adsorbent were characterized, and the extraction and desorption conditions for the targeted analytes were optimized. Under the optimal conditions, a sensitive method was developed by using PAN/TpPa–1 nanofiber as an adsorbent coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) for five QAs detection. It offered good linearity in the ranges of 0.5–200 ng·mL−1 for pefloxacin, enrofloxacin, and orbifloxacin, and of 1–200 ng·mL−1 for norfloxacin and sarafloxacin with correlation coefficients above 0.9946. The limits of detection (S/N = 3) of five QAs ranged from 0.03 to 0.133 ng·mL−1. The intra-day and inter-day relative standard deviations of the five QAs with the spiked concentration of 50 ng·mL−1 were 2.8–4.0 and 3.0–8.8, respectively. The recoveries of five QAs in the honey and pork samples were 81.6–119.7%, which proved that the proposed method has great potential for the efficient extraction and determination of QAs in complex samples.

Abstract
Toxic and hazardous substances constitute a category of compounds that are potentially hazardous to humans, other organisms, and the environment. These substances include pesticides (benzoylureas, pyrethroids, neonicotinoids), persistent organic pollutants (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls, perfluorinated compounds), plasticizers (phthalate esters, phenolic endocrine disruptors), medicines (sulfonamides, non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs, tetracyclines, fluoroquinone antibiotics), heterocyclic aromatic amines, algal toxins, and radioactive substances. Discharge of these toxic and harmful substances, as well as their possible persistence and bioaccumulation, pose a major risk to human health, often to the extent of being life-threatening. Therefore, it is important to analyze and detect toxic and hazardous substances in the environment, drinking water, food, and daily commodities. Sample pretreatment is an imperative step in most of the currently used analytical methods, especially in the analysis of trace toxic and harmful substances in complex samples. An efficient and fast sample pretreatment technology not only helps improve the sensitivity, selectivity, reproducibility, and accuracy of analytical methods, but also avoids contamination of the analytical instruments and even damages the performance and working life of instruments. Sample pretreatment techniques widely used in the extraction of toxic and hazardous substances include solid-phase extraction (SPE), solid-phase microextraction (SPME), and dispersed solid-phase extraction (DSPE). The adsorbent material plays a key role in these pretreatment techniques, thereby determining their selectivity and efficiency. In recent years, covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have attracted increasing attention in sample pretreatment. COFs represent an exciting new class of porous crystalline materials constructed via the strong covalent bonding of organic building units through a reversible condensation reaction. COFs present four advantages: (1) precise control over structure type and pore size by consideration of the target molecular structure based on the connectivity and shape of the building units; (2) post-synthetic modification for chemical optimization of the pore interior toward optimized interaction with the target; (3) straightforward scalable synthesis; (4) feasible formation of composites with magnetic nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes, graphene, silica, etc., which is beneficial to enhance the performance of COFs and meet the requirement of diverse pretreatment technologies. Because of the well-defined crystalline porous structures and tailored functionalities, COFs have excellent potential for use in target extraction. However, some issues need to be addressed for the application of COFs in the extraction of toxic and hazardous substances. (1) For the sample matrix, most of the reported COFs are highly hydrophobic, which limits their dispersibility in water-based samples, leading to poor extraction performance. COFs with good dispersibility in water-based samples are urgently required. (2) Besides, COFs rely on hydrophobic interaction, size repulsion, π-π stacking, and Van der Waals forces to extract target substances, but they are not effective for some polar targets. Thus, it is necessary to develop COFs with high affinity for polar toxic and hazardous substances. (3) Methods for the synthesis of COFs have evolved from solvothermal methods to room-temperature methods, mechanical grinding, microwave-assisted synthesis, ion thermal methods, etc. Most of the existing methods are time-consuming, laborious, and environmentally unfriendly. The starting materials are too expensive to prepare COFs in large quantities. More effort is required to improve the synthesis efficiency and overcome the obstacles in the application of COFs for extraction. This article summarizes and reviews the research progress in COFs toward the extraction of toxic and hazardous substances in recent years. Finally, the application prospects of COFs in this field are summarized, which serves as a reference for further research into pretreatment technologies based on COFs.

Abstract
Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are a class of emerging materials that are synthesized based on the covalent bonds between different building blocks. COFs possess unique attributes in terms of high porosity, tunable structure, ordered channels, easy modification, large surface area, and great physical and chemical stability. Due to these features, COFs have been extensively applied as adsorbents in various extraction modes. Enhanced extraction performance could be reached with modified COFs, where COFs are presented as composites with other materials including nanomaterials, carbon and its derivatives, silica, metal-organic frameworks, molecularly imprinted polymers, etc. This review article describes the recent advances, developments, and applications of COF-based materials being utilized as adsorbents in the extraction methods. The COFs, their properties, their synthesis approaches as well as their composite structures are reviewed. Most importantly, suggested mechanisms for the extraction of analyte(s) by COF-based materials are also discussed. Finally, the current challenges and future prospects of COF-based materials in extraction methods are summarized and considered in order to provide more insights into this field.

Abstract
In the present work, a magnetic ionic liquid (MIL) ([Co(DMBG)2][Co(hfaca)3]) was designed and synthesized with both the cation and anion respectively containing a paramagnetic component. With the prepared MIL as the extraction solvent, a vortex-assisted dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (VA-DLLME) method was developed and combined with back-extraction for the enrichment of five fluoroquinolone antibiotics (FQs). The MIL can be easily collected and separated from the aqueous phase under an external magnetic field due to the strong magnetic susceptibility and red color. Some experimental factors affecting the extraction efficiency were investigated, and the optimum extraction efficiency was obtained in a basic solution (pH=9) for the extraction process and with 2% (v/v) formic acid as the back-extraction solvent. Under the optimized extraction and back-extraction conditions, the proposed method was validated and exhibited good linearity with coefficients of determination (R2) above 0.9956 in the range of 2.5-800 ng·mL-1 and 5.0-800 ng·mL-1, low limits of detection (LODs) within 0.75-1.5 ng·mL-1 and satisfactory intra-day and inter-day precisions with relative standard deviations (RSDs) respectively less than 10.6% and 8.6%. Finally, the method was applied for the determination of five FQs in four samples of tap water, milk, honey and chicken, and good precision with RSDs of 0.5-9.5% and acceptable recoveries (73.8-114.3%) were obtained.

Abstract
In this study, ecofriendly and economic carboxy-terminated plant fibers (PFs) were used as adsorbents for the effective in-syringe solid phase extraction (IS-SPE) of fluoroquinolone (FQ) residues from water. Based on the thermal esterification and etherification reaction of cellulose hydroxy with citric acid (CA) and sodium chloroacetate in aqueous solutions, carboxy groups grafted onto cotton, cattail, and corncob fibers were fabricated. Compared with carboxy-terminated corncob and cotton, CA-modified cattail with more carboxy groups showed excellent adsorption capacity for FQs. The modified cattail fibers were reproducible and reusable with relative standard deviations of 3.2%–4.2% within 10 cycles of adsorption-desorption. A good extraction efficiency of 71.3%–80.9% was achieved after optimizing the extraction condition. Based on carboxylated cattail, IS-SPE coupled with ultra-performance liquid chromatography with a photodiode array detector was conducted to analyze FQs in environmental water samples. High sensitivity with limit of detections of 0.08–0.25 μg/L and good accuracy with recoveries of 83.8%–111.7% were obtained. Overall, the simple and environment-friendly modified waste PFs have potential applications in the effective extraction and detection of FQs in natural waters. Plant fibers were functionalized by green methods. The bio-adsorbents were applied for the extraction of fluoroquinolones. The higher carboxy content in fibers improved extraction performance. Carboxylated cattail was efficient in the adsorption of fluoroquinolones in environmental waters.

Abstract
Recently, covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have gained significant attention as a promising material for the elimination of various organic pollutants due to their distinctive characteristics such as high surface area, adjustable porosity, high removal efficiency, and recyclability. The efficiency and selectivity of COFs depend on the decorated functional group and the pore size of the chemical structure. Hence, this review highlights the adsorption removal mechanism of different organic contaminants such as (pharmaceutical and personal care products, pesticides, dyes, and industrial by-products) by COFs from an aqueous solution. Spectroscopic techniques and theoretical calculation methods are introduced to understand the mechanism of the adsorption process. Also, a comparison between the performance of COFs and other adsorbents was discussed. Furthermore, future research directions and challenges encountered in the removal of organic contaminants by COFs are discussed.

Abstract
An amino-functionalized magnetic covalent organic framework composite TpBD-(NH2 )2 @Fe3 O4 (Tp=Tp1,3,5-triformylphloroglucinol, BD-(NH2 )2 is 3,3',4,4'-biphenyltetramine) was prepared by post-synthesis modification. Due to its abundant benzene rings and amino groups, large specific surface area and porous structure, the prepared TpBD-(NH2 )2 @Fe3 O4 exhibits high extraction efficiency toward sulfonylurea herbicides. Based on this, a new method of magnetic solid-phase extraction with TpBD-(NH2 )2 @Fe3 O4 as the sorbent combined with high-performance liquid chromatography and ultraviolet detection was developed for trace analysis of sulfonylurea herbicides in environmental water, soil and tobacco leaves samples from tobacco land. Under the optimized conditions, the limits of detection within 0.05-0.14 μg/L were achieved with a high enrichment factor of 217-260-fold, and the relative standard deviations were 4.9-7.5% (n = 7, c = 0.5 μg/L). The linear range was around three orders of magnitude with the square of correlation coefficient higher than 0.9936. The method was applied to analyze five sulfonylurea herbicides in the environmental water, soil, and tobacco leave samples collected from tobacco land. No sulfonylurea herbicides were detected in these samples. The recoveries of target sulfonylurea herbicides in spiked environmental water, soil, and tobacco leaf samples were found in the range of 90.7-104, 70.7-99.0, and 59.3-97.8%, respectively. The results illustrate that the established TpBD-(NH2 )2 @Fe3 O4 -magnetic solid-phase extraction- high-performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet detection method is efficient for the analysis of trace sulfonylurea herbicides in environmental samples.

Abstract
In this work, four kinds of covalent organic framework (COF) materials (TpPa-1, TpBD, TpDT, and TFBBD) with different pore sizes or functional groups were synthesized by an ultrasonic method for the adsorption of five sulfonamides. Optimization experiments regarding the adsorption time, vortex speed, and pH were carried out to improve adsorption efficiency. In addition, kinetic and thermodynamic experiments were conducted to explore the adsorption mechanism of the sulfonamides on the different COFs. The adsorption processes of the five sulfonamides on the four COFs fit the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir adsorption isotherm model. Additionally, pore filling, hydrogen bond interactions, and electrostatic attraction were found to be the main adsorption mechanisms.

Abstract
A simple method based on magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) was developed for the simultaneous extraction of eleven emerging aromatic disinfection byproducts (DBPs) in water samples coupled with ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) determination. A magnetic covalent-organic framework (COF) material, namely, Fe3O4 @TpBD, was facilely synthesized and fully characterized, followed by an MSPE process. Several important MSPE parameters, such as the magnetic ratio, Fe3O4 @TpBD amount and sample pH, were systematically investigated. Under optimal conditions, the limits of detection and quantification of this COF-MSPE-UHPLC-MS/MS method were as low as 0.07-1.81 ng/L and 0.24-5.99 ng/L, respectively. Good precision was obtained with relative standard deviations (RSDs) of 1.3-10.9% (intraday) and 4.3-15.9% (interday). Furthermore, the validated method was proven applicable to real water samples; for example, the recoveries were 86.8-115.1% for the secondary effluent, and several DBPs in swimming pool water were detected. Notably, the MSPE process required only 7 min, ensuring that the DBPs were relatively stable during the whole analysis process and that Fe3O4 @TpBD demonstrated excellent reusability. The COF-based MSPE method with simplicity, rapidity and efficiency provided an ideal sample pretreatment alternative to determine trace DBPs in complex matrices.

Abstract
Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have attracted considerable attention in sample pretreatment because of their unique characteristics. However, the submicron or micron size of COFs has restricted their wider applications in solid-phase extraction (SPE). Herein, multiwalled nanotubes (MWNTs) were used as substrate materials to synthesize core-shell structured MWNTs@COFs composites (MWNTs@SNW-1) using a simple self-assembly method. The as-prepared MWNTs@SNW-1 composite exhibited a high BET surface area, good thermal stability, and good adsorption capacity. The MWNTs@SNW-1 composite was used as an adsorbent in cartridge-based SPE to extract four phytohormones before determining their levels by high-performance liquid chromatography. The experimental parameters affecting extraction efficiency, including the amount of adsorbents, solution pH, ionic strength, eluent type, and eluent volume, were investigated. The developed method showed a wide linear range (0.37-100 ng mL-1), low detection limits (0.11-0.32 ng mL-1), low limits of quantification (0.37-1.07 ng mL-1), high enrichment factors (45.9-49.3), and good reproducibility (<4.8%) for phytohormones. The developed analytical method was used to analyze trace phytohormones in fruit juices with good recoveries, highlighting the potential of the MWNTs@SNW-1 composite as an adsorbent in sample preparation.

Abstract
The Schiff-base reaction of 1,3,5-triformylphloroglucinol (Tp) and tetra(4-aminophenyl)methane (TAM) was performed for the synthesis of a three-dimensional covalent organic framework named 3D TpTAM, which was obtained by an ultrasound-assisted method for the first time. The morphology and structure of the synthesized TpTAM were characterized through various methods. Then, TpTAM-coated capillary columns were subsequently prepared by a covalent bonding method within a short time and applied for the separation of fluoroquinolones by capillary electrochromatography (CEC) with good resolution and reproducibility. The intraday relative standard deviations (RSDs) of the retention time and peak areas were 0.88%-0.95% and 2.27%-3.81%, respectively. The interday RSDs of retention time and peak areas were 0.71%-0.89% and 0.88%-3.60%, respectively. The column-to-column RSDs of retention time and peak areas were less than 1.90% and 13.56%, respectively. The interbatch RSDs of retention time and peak areas were less than 3.48% and 3.89%, respectively. The TpTAM-coated capillary columns could be used for no less than 100 runs with no observable changes in the separation efficiency. The separation mechanism was also studied, which indicated that π-π stacking effects, hydrophobic interactions and hydrogen bonding were the main factors. The results revealed that 3D TpTAM should have superior potential as the stationary phase in CEC for chromatographic separation.

Abstract
The market for industrial enzymes has witnessed constant growth, which is currently around 7% a year, projected to reach $10.5 billion in 2024. Lipases are hydrolase enzymes naturally responsible for triglyceride hydrolysis. They are the most expansively used industrial biocatalysts, with wide application in a broad range of industries. However, these biocatalytic processes are usually limited by the low stability of the enzyme, the half-life time, and the processes required to solve these problems are complex and lack application feasibility at the industrial scale. Emerging technologies create new materials for enzyme carriers and sophisticate the well-known immobilization principles to produce more robust, eco-friendlier, and cheaper biocatalysts. Therefore, this review discusses the trending studies and industrial applications of the materials and protocols for lipase immobilization, analyzing their advantages and disadvantages. Finally, it summarizes the current challenges and potential alternatives for lipases at the industrial level.

Abstract
In this work, COF-LZU1@PEI@Fe3O4 was synthesized by immobilization of COF-LZU1 onto the surface of polyethyleneimine-functionalized Fe3O4 nanoparticles (PEI@Fe3O4) and employed as an adsorbent for magnetic dispersive micro-solid phase extraction of tetracyclines (TCs). COF-LZU1@PEI@Fe3O4 was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms analysis. The optimal extraction and desorption conditions were as follows: 15.00 mL sample solution (pH 7.0) extracted with 5.0 mg of adsorbent for 30 min at 30 °C, and then desorbed with 1.50 mL methanol/acetonitrile/0.02 mol L-1 oxalic acid solution (v/v, 1 : 2 : 7). Good linearities were obtained between the peak area and TC concentration ranging from 5-500 μg L-1 with correlation coefficients (R2) higher than 0.9992 and limits of detection lower than 0.51 μg L-1. The relative standard deviations (RSDs) of intra-day and inter-day were less than 5.7% and 7.4%, respectively. The developed method was successfully applied to the determination of TCs in environmental water samples with recoveries in the range of 87.0-113.8% and RSDs less than 5.1%, suggesting great potential of COF-LZU1@PEI@Fe3O4 for efficient extraction and analysis of trace TCs in water samples.

Abstract
In recent years, the number of patients diagnosed with cancer has been soaring. Therefore, the design, development, and implementation of new approaches for the diagnosis and therapy of different types of cancers have attracted an increasing amount of attention. To date, different methods have been used for cancer diagnosis and therapy with main drawbacks in terms of severe side effects, e.g., damage to healthy cells, development of drug resistance and tumor recurrence. Therefore, there is an urgent need for the introduction and application of innovative methods. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are versatile materials with excellent properties in terms of biocompatibility, porous and crystalline structure, and easy functionalization. The porous structure and organic monomers in COFs allow them to load different therapeutic drugs and/or functional species efficiently. These promising properties make COFs ideal candidates for medical application, especially in cancer diagnosis and therapy. To date, many studies have focused on the design and synthesis of novel COFs while their application as diagnostic and therapeutic materials remains less understood. In this review, different synthesis and functionalization approaches of COFs were summarized. In particular, cancer diagnosis and therapy based on COFs were investigated and the advantages and limitations of each method were discussed. Most importantly, the mechanism for cancer therapy of COFs and fundamental challenges and perspectives for the application of COFs in cancer theranostics were assessed.

Abstract
A simple extraction procedure coupled with liquid chromatography-Q Orbitrap high resolution mass spectrometry (LC-Q Orbitrap HRMS) for the determination of 19 quinolones in animal-derived foods (pork, fish, egg and milk) has been developed. Sample preparation is based on homogeneous liquid-liquid extraction at pH > 9 using water-miscible acetonitrile with cold-induced phase separation. The procedure allowed one-step enrichment and cleanup of all the 19 quinolones with different logP properties to lower aqueous phase, which eliminated the process of preconcentration and re-dissolution for sample solution. Furthermore, an adsorption phenomenon was observed between conventional borosilicate glass injection vials and most of quinolones. In detection analysis, a scheduled variable full scan strategy was performed to improve detection performance in Q Orbitrap HRMS. Under optimal conditions, a superior limit of quantitation (0.028-0.192 μg/kg) in animal-derived foods was achieved using this proposed method. Lastly, this method was validated and applied successfully in real samples.
