Abstract
Solid-phase microextraction (SPME) has been widely proposed for the extraction, clean-up, and preconcentration of analytes of environmental concern. Enrichment capabilities, preconcentration efficiency, sample throughput, and selectivity in extracting target compounds greatly depend on the materials used as SPME coatings. Supramolecular materials have emerged as promising porous coatings to be used for the extraction of target compounds due to their unique selectivity, three-dimensional framework, flexible design, and possibility to promote the interaction between the analytes and the coating by means of multiple oriented functional groups. The present review will cover the state of the art of the last 5 years related to SPME coatings based on metal organic frameworks (MOFs), covalent organic frameworks (COFs), and supramolecular macrocycles used for environmental applications.

Abstract
Coatings of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have potential applications in surface modification for medical implants, tissue engineering, and drug delivery systems. Therefore, developing an applicable method for surface-mounted MOF engineering to fabricate protective coating for implant tissue engineering is a crucial issue. Besides, the coating process was desgined for drug infusion and effect opposing chemical and mechanical resistance. In the present review, we discuss the techniques of MOF coatings for medical application in both in vitro and in vivo in various systems such as in situ growth of MOFs, dip coating of MOFs, spin coating of MOFs, Layer-by-layer methods, spray coating of MOFs, gas phase deposition of MOFs, electrochemical deposition of MOFs. The current study investigates the modification in the implant surface to change the properties of the alloy surface by MOF to improve properties such as reduction of the biofilm adhesion, prevention of infection, improvement of drugs and ions rate release, and corrosion resistance. MOF coatings on the surface of alloys can be considered as an opportunity or a restriction. The presence of MOF coatings in the outer layer of alloys would significantly demonstrate the biological, chemical and mechanical effects. Additionally, the impact of MOF properties and specific interactions with the surface of alloys on the anti-microbial resistance, anti-corrosion, and self-healing of MOF coatings are reported. Thus, the importance of multifunctional methods to improve the adhesion of alloy surfaces, microbial and corrosion resistance and prospects are summarized.

Abstract
Coatings are considered to play a crucial role in solid-phase microextraction (SPME). In this work, a novel coating named ZIF-67/[HOEMIM]BF4 was fabricated through in situ potentiostatic electrodeposition in methanol solutions containing ZIF-67 precursors and 1-(2'-hydroxyethyl)-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([HOEMIM]BF4). Compared with the traditional solvothermal method, this method reduced the synthesis time and enabled ZIF-67 to grow directly on the surface of stainless-steel wire, effectively simplifying the preparation process and improving the coating reproducibility. Owing to the inherent characteristics such as high porosity and high thermal and mechanical stability, and the impressive morphological regulation and extraction function of [HOEMIM]BF4, the developed coating exhibited a prolonged service life and a better extraction capacity for trace polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) compared to single ZIF-67 and commercial fibers. Under the optimal conditions, the linear range of the ZIF-67/[HOEMIM]BF4-based SPME-GC method was 0.01-500 μg L-1, and the detection limit was 0.27-5.2 ng L-1. When applied in the determination of PAHs in a real water sample, recoveries between 85.6-117.3% were obtained, indicating the potential of ZIF-67/[HOEMIM]BF4 in the high efficiency SPME and GC analysis of PAHs.

Abstract
The nature and fabrication of the fiber coatings with good adsorption capacity and selectivity play a decisive role in solid-phase microextraction (SPME). In this work, a facile strategy was proposed to fabricate a cobalt, phosphorus and nitrogen co-doped carbonaceous (Co-P-NC) coating on superelastic nitinol (NiTi) substrate as a binder-free fiber for SPME. In particular, direct electrochemical in situ growth of ZIF-67 crystals served as the N-containing carbon precursor and sacrificial template for subsequent controllable conversion of ZIF-67 into a novel porous Co-P-NC coating on the NiTi wire substrate via a phosphiding process in a N2 atmosphere. The obtained NiTi wire with the Co-P-NC coating (NiTi@Co-P-NC) was employed to investigate the adsorption of some representative aromatic analytes in water samples for the first time coupling with high-performance liquid chromatography with UV detection (HPLC/UV). The results proved that the resulting fiber showed superior adsorption selectivity for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Therefore, the key parameters were further examined for the adsorption and preconcentration of PAHs. Under the obtained conditions, linear chromatographic responses were achieved over the concentration ranges of 0.03-100 μg L-1 with the correlation coefficients ranging from 0.9980 to 0.9991. Limits of detection (LODs) were between 0.007 and 0.149 μg L-1 (S/N = 3). The developed SPME-HPLC/UV method was applied to selective preconcentration and sensitive determination of PAHs in water. Moreover, this fiber had good fiber preparation reproducibility and presented 120 adsorption and desorption cycles at the same time in practical SPME application.

Abstract
The in-situ preparation of three-dimensional MOF-199 (3D MOF-199) derived from the electrochemically prepared highly porous nano Cu foam on the surface of a flexible copper wire is reported. The 3D-Cu foam coating was used as a precursor and template for fabrication of MOF-199. The microextraction ability of the in-situ prepared 3D-MOF-199 fiber was evaluated using the prepared fiber for solid phase microextraction (SPME) of selected antibiotics including amoxicillin, azithromycin, ciprofloxacin, cefixime and gentamicin coupled to high-performance liquid chromatography with UV detection. Under the optimized condition, the calibration curves were linear in the range of 1-100 µg L - 1 (r2 above 0.9921) for both water and urine matrices. Limits of detection and limits of quantification were 0.14-0.62 µg L - 1 and 0.53-2.17 µg L - 1 in the selected matrices, respectively. In addition, the repeatability of the method was evaluated by considering the relative standard deviation (RSD%). The intra-day and inter-day RSDs of the method with the single fiber was in the range of 2.8% to 4.9% and from 3.1% to 4.9%, respectively. Furthermore, the fiber-to-fiber reproducibility ranged from 2.9% to 5.5%. The enrichment factors were also in the range of 32 to 55. Finally, the method was successfully used for analysis of amoxicillin, azithromycin, ciprofloxacin, cefixime and gentamicin in urine samples. Relative recoveries for spiked urine samples were in the range of 90-105%.

Abstract
Background Solid-phase microextraction (SPME) is a versatile sampling and sample preparation technology that possess a significant application in the extraction and pre-concentration of a broad range of micro-pollutants from different kind of matrices. Selection and preparation of an appropriate fiber substrate and coating materials have always been the main challenges of the SPME procedure. This paper introduces a high-efficiency metal-based SPME fiber with a new chemical coating of nickel/graphene oxide/nickel tetraazamacrocyclic complex (Ni/GO/NiTAM). Result The Ni/GO/NiTAM sorbent was electroless deposited onto the surface of an aluchrom (Alu) wire, and then the prepared fiber was employed for the extraction and pre-concentration of some PAHs before their HPLC–UV analysis. The prepared fiber characterization data were assessed using FE-SEM, EDX, XRD, FT-IR, and BET techniques. The method validation parameters, including the linearity range (LRs: 0.10 to 200.0 µg L−1), the limit of detection (LODs: 0.03‒0.30 µg L−1), and the limit of quantification (LOQs: 0.10–1.00 µg L−1), under optimal conditions. The relative standard deviations (RSDs) of intra-day, inter-day, and single fiber repeatability (for the samples spiked at 25 µg L‒1) were in the range of 0.32–2.94, 1.20–4.09, and 1.42‒4.39%, respectively. In addition, the technique recoveries (RR %) and enrichment factors (EF) were in the range of 83.10‒107.80% and 83–164, respectively. Conclusion The fiber fabrication was simple, and the applied materials were also economical and easily accessible. Alu metal has high physicochemical and mechanical stability and thus can be a good alternative for the substrate of the fragile commercial SPME fibers. High rigidity and durability, long service life, and high extraction capability are some of the other advantages of the offered fiber. Abstract
Sample pretreatment technology plays a vital role throughout the analysis of complex samples. Sample pretreatment can not only increase the concentration of trace targets in the sample, but also effectively eliminate interference from the sample matrix in instrumental analysis. Adsorbent materials are a key component of sample pretreatment technology. Therefore, the development of efficient and stable new adsorbent materials has acquired significance in research on pretreatment technology. Porous materials are advantageous for use in diverse applications, such as in adsorbents, when they possess controllable nanostructures, a tailored pore surface chemistry, and abundant porosity, and are inexpensive. Particularly in recent years, porous materials derived from metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) feature excellent properties, such as diverse morphology and structure, adjustable pore size, high specific surface area, good thermal stability, and chemical resistance. MOF-derived materials, when used as adsorbents for sample pretreatment, offer the following advantages: (1) The porous materials derived from MOFs typically possess a larger specific surface area than other porous materials. This characteristic is beneficial to improve the extraction capacity and extraction efficiency via an increase in the contact area between the materials and targets; (2) The microscopic porous structure of MOF-derived materials can be easily tuned (by controlling the temperature and time during pyrolysis, gas atmosphere, and heating rate), which is conducive to improve the selectivity of sample pretreatment methods; (3) The metal active sites can be evenly distributed. Owing to the ordered distribution of metal ions in the precursor MOFs and a good periodic framework structure, the metal active sites of the derivatives formed can still maintain a corresponding distance. These metal active sites will not form agglomerates and affect the extraction performance; conversely, other porous materials often require extremely complicated processes to achieve a uniform distribution; (4) Heteroatoms such as nitrogen and sulfur can be easily doped on the framework of MOF-derived porous materials. This doping enables the materials to induce additional interactions such as hydrogen bonding and π-π stacking for adsorbing target analytes. The excellent properties of MOF-derived materials make them promising for use in sample pretreatment. Novel sample pretreatment methods that use MOF-derived materials are constantly being developed. However, the use of MOF-derived materials is limited by the complex preparation process and high production cost of MOF precursors, along with difficulties in mass production. Further, the precise design or functionalization of MOF-derived materials according to the characteristics of targets is a new direction with immense challenges as well as application potential. This review summarizes the application of MOF-derived materials in sample pretreatment methods, including dispersive solid phase extraction (dSPE), magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE), solid phase microextraction (SPME), stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE), and dispersive micro solid phase extraction (DMSPE). The preparation methods, functional control, and enrichment efficiencies of various MOF-derived materials are also reviewed. Finally, the application prospects of MOF-derived materials in sample pretreatment are discussed to provide a clear outlook and reference for further related research.

Abstract
In this study, porous cage-like hollow magnetic carbon-doped CoO nanocomposite (CoO@C) was successfully synthesized using a metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as precursor by one-step calcination method in this work. The obtained nanoporous composite showed excellent magnetic response by taking advantage of the magnetism of CoO even without the Fe3O4, making it an advanced sorbent for magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE). The Co-MOF and CoO@C were characterized by XRD, TGA, SEM, TEM, vibrating sample magnetometry, and FT-IR spectroscopy. Based on this, a method using CoO@C for MSPE coupled with HPLC was established for the analysis of nine polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from various real water samples. The amount of sorbent, extraction times, extraction temperature, desorption times, oscillation rate, and elution volume were optimized. Under the optimal conditions, the method had good relative standard deviations (RSDs) of 1.1%-6.5% and a satisfying linearity range of 0.5-1000 μg L-1. The low LOD and LOQ for nine PAHs were found to be 0.06-1.30 μg L-1 and 0.19-4.30 μg L-1, respectively. The experimental results indicated that the prepared nanocomposite showed excellent adsorption capacity compared to other commercial sorbents and has potential applications for the removal of hazardous pollutants from environmental samples.

Abstract
Nitrogen-doped porous biochar (NPB) with a large specific surface area, wide pore size distribution, graphitized structure, nitrogen doping, and hydrophobicity was fabricated by high-temperature modification of algal biochar with potassium carbonate. This NPB was then uniformly coated on stainless steel wire as a novel solid-phase microextraction (SPME) fiber. The extraction efficiency of NPB-coated fiber for seven chlorobenzenes (CBs) was excellent; it was 1.0-112.2 times higher than that of commercial SPME fibers. A trace determination method was developed for seven CBs in water with the optimized extraction conditions by NPB-coated fiber and gas chromatography-electron capture detector, which showed wide linear ranges (1-1000 ng L-1), low detection limits (0.007-0.079 ng L-1), great repeatability (2.5-6.5% for intra-day, and 3.1-6.8% for inter-day), and excellent reproducibility (3.5-6.3%, n = 5). The practicality of the developed method was evaluated using real water samples and showed great recoveries (89.55-105.19%). This study showed that low-cost biomass wastes could be converted to advanced biochar materials by a facile method, and displayed excellent performance in SPME applications.

Abstract
Zeolitic imidazolate frameworks are a class of metal-organic frameworks that are topologically isomorphic with zeolites. Zeolitic imidazolate frameworks are composed of tetrahedrally coordinated metal ions connected by imidazolate linkers and have a high porosity and chemical stability. Here, we summarize the progress made in the application of zeolitic imidazolate frameworks in sample preparation for analytical purposes. This review is focused on analytical methods based on liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, or capillary electrophoresis, where the use of zeolitic imidazolate frameworks has contributed to increasing the sensitivity and selectivity of the method. While bulk zeolitic imidazolate frameworks have been directly used in analytical sample preparation protocols, a variety of strategies for their magnetization or their incorporation into sorbent particles, monoliths, fibers, stir bars, or thin films, have been developed. These modifications have facilitated the handling and application of zeolitic imidazolate frameworks for a number of analytical sample treatments including magnetic solid-phase extraction, solid-phase microextraction, stir bar sorptive extraction, or thin film microextraction, among other techniques.

Abstract
Oriented zinc oxide nanosheets (ZnONSs) were directly grown on pretreated nickel-titanium alloy (NiTi) fiber substrates without a traditional seeding layer of ZnO by electrochemical deposition for the first time. The fiber coatings were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry. Direct growth of ZnONSs on the NiTi fiber substrate was dependent on the type of zinc salt. The adsorption performance of the ZnONSs coatings was evaluated using representative aromatic compounds as model analytes together with high performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection. The as-prepared fiber shows higher extraction capability for the selected polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) than for ultraviolet filters in water samples, and better extraction selectivity for PAHs. For this purpose, the important experimental parameters were optimized for the extraction of PAHs. Under the optimized conditions, the calibration curves are linear in the range of 0.03-200 μg L-1 with correlation coefficients greater than 0.999. Limits of detection ranged from 0.011 μg L-1 to 0.082 μg L-1. Intra-day and inter-day relative standard deviations (RSDs) of the developed method with a single fiber ranged from 2.69% to 4.18% and from 4.44% to 5.40%, respectively. RSDs for the fiber-to-fiber reproducibility varied between 5.57% and 7.66%. The developed method was successfully applied for selective preconcentration and determination of trace PAHs in five real water samples. Relative recoveries varied from 84.5% to 104% with RSDs between 1.65% and 8.30%. Furthermore, the as-prepared fiber is highly stable.

Abstract
Exploring the presence of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in aquatic environment is an important task. Metal-organic frameworks (MOF) are commonly used as sorbents for enriching PAHs but their crystal synthesis, sorbent preparation and robustness remain challenging. In the present study, under mild conditions, a novel sheathed MOF fiber coating was fabricated via in situ heteroepitaxial growth of copper-2,5-diaminoterephthalate (Cu-DAT) crystals and subsequent polyimide (PI) sheath. The copper hydroxide nanotubes were first synthesized on the copper wire to provide a substrate for further in situ heteroepitaxial Cu-DAT growth, and the coating was then sheathed with PI via a simple dip-coating procedure. The well-ranged copper hydroxide nanotubes, the unique adsorption property of Cu-DAT, and the PI sheath, the prepared fiber all contributed to a successful solid-phase microextraction (SPME) device for detecting PAHs. Results demonstrated that the SPME methods using the novel fiber possessed great sensitivity, wide linear range, good reproducibility, and the robustness was significantly improved with PI sheath. The novel SPME material was successfully applied for detection of PAHs in river water samples and in vivo detection of PAHs in fish dorsal muscle. In general, this study explored an effective and convenient method to prepare high-efficient MOF-based SPME fiber for PAHs analysis in complex environmental water samples and living organisms via in situ growth and polymer sheath.
