Synthesis of sheet-like polypyrrole nanowires for the microextraction of trace residues of pyrethroid pesticides in human plasma and molecular dynamics-aided study of adsorption mechanism

Sea-urchin-like covalent organic framework as solid-phase microextraction fiber coating for sensitive detection of trace pyrethroid insecticides in water

Pyrethroid insecticides residues in water pose a critical threat to the environment from widespread production and overuse. Therefore, it is of major relevance to develop a sensitive and efficient method to detect pyrethroid insecticides in water. In this paper, a covalent organic framework (COF) with NHCO as the structural unit was synthesized using a simple condensation reaction of TTL (NH2) and TDBA (COOH). Various characterization results and density functional theory (DFT) calculations demonstrated that multiple interactions synergistically promoted the adsorption of pyrethroid insecticides on COFTDBA-TTL. Based on the excellent extraction capability of COFTDBA-TTL, efficient detection of 11 pyrethroid insecticides in water was achieved using COFTDBA-TTL-coated SPME fiber and gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The results showed that the extraction enhancement factors (EFs) of pyrethroid insecticides were as high as 2584-7199, and the extraction efficiencies were 3.28-446 times higher than that of commercial fiber, which reflected its high adsorption property. Meanwhile, the limits of detection (LODs) of the COFTDBA-TTL coated fiber were as low as 0.170-1.68 ng/L under the optimal conditions, and the recoveries of 11 pyrethroid insecticides in the actual water samples were 88.5-108 %. In conclusion, the SPME-GC-MS method based on COFTDBA-TTL coated fiber was simple, rapid, and efficient, and should have a promising application in trace detection of pyrethroid insecticides in the environment.

Recent progress in the genotyping of bovine tuberculosis and its rapid diagnosis via nanoparticle-based electrochemical biosensors

Bovine tuberculosis (bTB) is considered a worldwide infectious zoonotic disease. Mycobacterium bovis causes bTB disease. It is one of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC) members. MTBC is a clonal complex of close relatives with approximately 99.95% similarity. M. bovis is a spillover pathogen that can transmit from animals to humans and rarely from humans to animals with contact. Genotyping techniques are important to discriminate and differentiate between MTBC species. Spoligotyping and mycobacterial interspersed repetitive unit-variable number tandem repeat (MIRU-VNTR) are widely used but they have some limitations. As an alternative, whole genome sequencing approaches have been utilized due to their high-resolution power. They are employed in typing M. bovis and explain the evolutionary and phylogenetic relationships between isolates. The control of bTB disease has attracted a large amount of attention. Rapid and proper diagnosis is necessary for monitoring the disease as an initial step for its control and treatment. Nanotechnology has a potential impact on the rapid diagnosis and treatment of bTB through the use of nanocarrier and metal nanoparticles (NPs). Special attention has been paid to voltammetric and impedimetric electrochemical strategies as facile, sensitive, and selective methods for the efficient detection of tuberculosis. The efficacy of these sensors is enhanced in the presence of NPs, which act as recognition and/or redox probes. Gold, silver, copper, cobalt, graphene, and magnetic NPs, as well as polypyrrole nanowires and multiwalled carbon nanotubes have been employed for detecting tuberculosis. Overall, NP-based electrochemical sensors represent a promising tool for the diagnosis of bTB.

Complexation and enantioselectivity of novel bridge-like uranyl- 2-((1Z,9Z)-9-(2-Hydroxyphenyl)-3,5,6,8-tetrahydrobenzo[h][1,4,7,10] dioxadiazacyclododecin-2-yl)-5-methoxyphenol with chiral organophosphorus pesticide enantiomers of R/S-malathions

Designing new uranyl complexes with enantioselectivity is of great significance for the identification and separation of enantiomers of chiral pesticides. In this paper, a new asymmetric rigid uranyl-2-((1Z,9Z)-9-(2-Hydroxyphenyl)-3,5,6,8-tetrahydrobenzo[h][1,4,7,10] dioxadiaza-cyclododecin-2-yl)-5-methoxyphenol(Uranyl-HTDM) was designed, we used Uranyl-HTDM as a receptor to selectively coordinate with the guests of the chiral organophosphorus pesticide R/S-malathions(R/S-MLTs) to explore the receptor's enatioselectivity recognition of the chiral guests of R/S-MLTs. Density functional theory (DFT) method was used to comprehensively study the complexation mode of the receptor with enantiomers. The results showed that the U of Uranyl-HTDM could coordinate with both the thiophosphoryl sulfur and carbonyl oxygens of R/S-MLTs in different environments, respectively. The thermodynamics calculations further indicated that the receptor could selectively recognize the thiophosphoryl sulfur and carbonyl oxygen atoms of R/S-malathions, and the complexation abilities of Uranyl-HTDM to the R/S-malathions under different solvents were not the same. The smaller the polarity of solvents, the stronger the complexation ability of Uranyl-HTDM with R-malathion, toluene was an ideal solvent with large △G change and enatioselectivity coefficient of 99.55%. The study provides useful references for the design of new uranyl-salophens and for the experimental study on the molecular recognition of chiral organophosphorus pesticides.

Polypyrrole-Bentonite composite as a highly efficient and low cost anionic adsorbent for removing hexavalent molybdenum from wastewater

The aim of current study was to develop a new material for the fast and efficient removal of hexavalent molybdenum (Mo(VI)) from contaminated water. In this work, a novel adsorbent was synthesized through the polypyrrole intercalation modification of bentonite (PPy-BT) via in-situ chemical polymerization method for effectively removal of Mo(VI) from aqueous solution. The surface morphology and chemical composition of PPy-BT composites were investigated by X-ray diffraction, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, scanning electron microscopy techniques and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. PPy and BT could well resist the aggregation of each other, and therefore resulted in a loose-packed structure and good exposure of active sites. Using materials for the adsorption of Mo(VI) revealed has a maximum adsorption capacity of 100.17 mg/g at 25 °C and pH 4.0 by the Langmuir model. The adsorption kinetics and isotherm data are found to be well elucidated through pseudo-second-order and Langmuir models. Moreover, high regeneration ability (>89.3%) of PPy-BT was noted for five consecutive adsorption-desorption cycles. These findings highlight the potential of PPy-BT for practical water treatment applications. The intercalation material of PPy-BT could provide a new strategy to develop cost-effective clay-based nanomaterials for wastewater treatment.
