Abstract
AIM University students are increasingly affected by mental health problems and need prompt support. The aim of this project was to assess the impact of the mental health first aid (MHFA) training on students' knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP) concerning mental health in the short, mid and long-term. METHODS Three studies were conducted in Bordeaux, France, from May 2021 to March 2022. The first study collected data from 55 students 1 to 6 months after they had followed the training to examine its efficacy in the mid-long term. The second study collected data immediately before and after the training to evaluate the KAP of 52 students in the short-term (1 to 10 days). The third study consisted of 14 semi-structured interviews with students trained since 2020 to identify the training's long-term impact (3 to 18 months). Descriptive statistics were used for studies one and two, and framework analyses for study three. RESULTS Most participants reported that their KAP about mental health had improved after the training. In the first study, 94.2% of students reported being ready to intervene during a psychotic crisis in their peers. In the second study, 75.0% of students reported improved mental health-related knowledge and decreased stigma. All students in the third study reported that they had assisted at least one person after the training. CONCLUSIONS These were the first data on the impact of the French MHFA on KAP. While not exhaustive, findings suggest that deploying the training would be beneficial to French students.

Abstract
Preparing enrolled nurses (ENs) to effectively work with mental health consumers is crucial to meeting Australia's healthcare demands. This qualitative study aimed to explore various stakeholders' perceptions regarding the mental health knowledge, skills, and attributes (KSAs) required by ENs to engage with individuals experiencing mental health issues, thus guiding future training priorities. The sample comprised 44 participants including 18 students, 3 graduate ENs, 5 experienced ENs, 5 registered nurses (RNs), 4 nurse unit managers (NUMs), 5 teachers, and 5 consumers of mental health services. Focus groups were used to collect data from the students, whilst individual interviews were conducted with all other participants. A thematic analysis revealed communication was the most vital skill for effectively working with mental health consumers. Skills such as critical thinking and clinical reasoning were also deemed crucial, given the volatile nature of the mental health inpatient environment, necessitating effective responses to acute escalations to prevent adverse outcomes for both staff and consumers. Essential knowledge components included understanding mental health disorders, symptoms, and treatments, particularly medications used for mental health issues. Participants also emphasised the importance of attributes like confidence and empathy in supporting and caring for consumers, who often experienced trauma and vulnerability. These findings provide valuable insights into the content that should be incorporated into the diploma of nursing (DN) training to produce competent graduate ENs.

Abstract
The World Health Organisation states that more than 350 million people experience depression globally. The phenomenological changes in individuals experiencing depression are profound Phenomenological research can further researchers' and clinicians' understanding of this experience. This study aimed to gain a phenomenological understanding of how individuals with depression understood and made sense of their experiences. A methodology of interpretative phenomenological analysis was adopted. In-depth semi-structured interviews explored the lived experience of depression for eight individuals. Data were analysed into the superordinate theme Broken Self - Transforming the Self. The superordinate theme developed from the subordinate themes of 'unknown self, loss of self and one's identity', 'desperate for a way out', and thirdly, 'conflict with self and what's known', which related directly to how individuals made sense of their experience of depression. These research findings highlight the human implications of the experience of depression and the limitations of viewing depression from a biological or medical model lens. Understanding the human impact is essential for the effective, holistic practice of mental health nursing.

Abstract
Background Healthcare students are a population more at risk for mental health issues, especially anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts. The health faculty of Université Paris Cité in France, Paris has implemented a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course aiming to improve students' mental health literacy, self-care and peer-support and to decrease stigma about mental illness. We conducted a qualitative study exploring the lived experience of this MHFA training course among healthcare students so to better assess its implementation within this specific context and population. Methods This qualitative study used the five-stage inductive process to analyze the structure of lived experience (IPSE) approach. All the healthcare students that had completed the 2-day MHFA training were approached to participate. Data was collected through individual semi-structured interviews and inclusion continued until data saturation was reached. Data analysis was based on an inductive, descriptive, and structuring procedure to determine the structure of lived experience characterized by the central axes of experience. Results Twenty students were included. Data analysis produced a common structure of lived experience based on three central axes of experience, (1) a personal experience, (2) a student experience and (3) a professional experience. The participants all experienced this course intertwined within these 3 axes. Their motivation to take the course was personal -being of feeling concerned by the topic-, was study-oriented - to learn and revise psychiatry- and was professional - so to develop both practical and soft skills. In their personal experience, participants reported a transformative experience and some interventions with friends and family, while both in their student and professional experience, they felt frustrated with both the content and the form of the course. Conclusion The results reported similar outcomes reported in the literature about skills, knowledge, and awareness; but mostly produce original avenues about how to better adapt such course to this specific population so to better address students' expectations and mental health issues. This MHFA course -with an adapted content addressing eating disorders, self-mutilations and sexual and gender-based violence - could be part of the early curriculum of healthcare students. The latter could then benefit from a level 2/advanced MHFA course years later specifically tailored for healthcare professionals.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The combination of first-year placements, an increasing proportion of mental health callouts, and the high incidence of mental illness in health-professional tertiary students means standard curricula may not adequately prepare early-year paramedic students for mental health challenges. METHODS A retrospective online survey was used to explore the experiences of paramedic students who have completed Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training within their undergraduate studies. The content-validated survey explored the relevance, appropriateness, and novelty of MHFA training, and invited participants to reflect on the course strengths and weaknesses. RESULTS The majority of 102 respondents, predominantly female first- and second-year paramedic students aged 18-24 years, agreed the content was relevant (86%) and appropriate (88%), with 73% agreeing they would recommend to other university students. Thematic analysis identified strengths of the course as perceived increases in mental health literacy and empowerment to act on mental health concerns. A weakness was students perceived the course did not prepare them adequately for clinical practice. CONCLUSION The inclusion of MHFA early in paramedic curricula is appropriate and relevant, increasing mental health literacy and empowering students to recognise and act upon mental health concerns. Application of practical scenarios may further enhance student learning experiences.

Abstract
Evidence shows that university students, especially healthcare students, experienced considerable health impacts during COVID-19. This study examined Hong Kong general nursing students' mental health and quality of life during the COVID-19 pandemic. An online questionnaire composed of personal demographics, the Fear of COVID-19 scale (FCV-19S), the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale short version (DASS21), and the World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF) was used for data collection in early 2021. Among 380 respondents, 170 (45%) did not attend clinical practicum during the pandemic. Students who did not participate in clinical training scored lower in FCV-19S but higher in WHOQOL-BREF than those who participated (p = 0.001 or p < 0.001). FCV-19S and WHOQOL-BREF were negatively correlated (r = -0.623 to -0.446, p < 0.001). Slight negative correlations were found between the FCV-19S and DASS-21 scores. Although there were no significant differences in DASS21 (p = 0.294-0.931) between these two student groups, there was a considerably high prevalence rate of depression (57.1%), anxiety (47.6%), and stress (39.5%). Hong Kong nursing students, especially those who attended clinical practicum during the pandemic, experienced substantial emotional and quality of life implications. Local universities are recommended to organize appropriate interventions to prepare and support nursing students' wellbeing and health in coping with future disasters.

Abstract
Background With the prevalence of mental issues worldwide, more and more people are suffering from psychological torture. Mental Health Gap Action Program (mhGAP) has been introduced to improve the life quality of humans. Objectives To explore and synthesize evidence of participants' experience of mental health first aid (MHFA) training course. Method Peer-reviewed qualitative evidence was systematically reviewed and thematically synthesized. Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE), Psychological Information (PsycINFO), PubMed, Psych ARTICLES, Web of Science, Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI), and National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) databases were searched for the inception of the present study. The study's quality was appraised using the Critical Appraisal Checklist for Qualitative Research of Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) appraisal tool. All the participants who have attended the MHFA training course (excluding instructors) setting were included. Results Six papers published between 2005 and 2019 were included for thematic synthesis. The review indicated that MHFA had been a positive experience for participants. Conclusions MHFA courses can provide participants with professional knowledge of mental health counseling and improve their knowledge, practice, and attitudes towards their patients. Professional MHFA training courses should therefore be popularized and promoted among other populations.

Abstract
Nursing students must increasingly deliver quality care to the psychiatric mental health population during their educational experiences and as graduate nurses. This review examines experiences and adds practical knowledge on the development of teaching strategies for nursing programs, supporting nurse educators, future new nurses, and nurse leaders in psychiatric mental health nursing. Fourteen studies from the CINAHL, PsycInfo, Medline, PubMed, and Web of Science databases were included. Two themes emerged: mental health nursing modality experiences and student perspectives. Rigorous scientific studies are needed highlighting the influence and effectiveness of psychiatric-behavioral and mental health nursing clinical education.

Abstract
Mental health has long been a challenge on college and university campuses. Though it has historically taken a back seat to physical health, college administrators recently identified mental health as a key area for additional support. With the COVID-19 pandemic bringing mental health into the conversation across the country, there is no more critical and opportune time for colleges and universities to prioritize mental health. Many public and private universities alike have begun to do this, but how can they ensure that the services and resources they are providing and promoting get used and that students, faculty, and staff reap the benefits of these efforts? This commentary describes a set of universal steps the authors recommend based on their experience working with colleges and universities across New York State to increase uptake and usage of services.

Abstract
Improved knowledge about, and positive attitudes towards, people with mental illness could lead to improved support and decreased stigma for people with mental illness, including their families and carers. The aims of our study were to evaluate the perspectives of community leaders about the usefulness of a cluster randomized trial of a problem-solving and Story-bridge based mental health literacy (MHL) programme and to understand whether they utilized the knowledge acquired from the programme in their usual interactions with people with mental illness and their families. Twenty-five participants were sampled randomly from the intervention cluster of the trial to participate in a qualitative process evaluation, and individual interviews were used to collect data. A thematic analysis of the data was undertaken. Three themes were abstracted from the data, reflecting participants' perspectives about the usefulness of the programme: overcoming fear of perceived dangerousness, increasing willingness to engage, and becoming empathetic and non-judgemental. This qualitative process evaluation offers insights into how a problem-solving and Story-bridge based MHL programme to a targeted group could lead to real and supportive actions/attitudes to people with mental illness. The findings have clinical relevance for a collaboration among family members and caregivers, community leaders and community psychiatric nurses, and other primary healthcare workers to develop community MHL strategies to improve the quality of care, support and life of people with mental disorders.
