Abstract
Herein, a conductivity method was engaged to explore the effects of a fluoroquinolone drug, namely ciprofloxacin hydrochloride (CFH)/CFH + polyols (organic compounds with multiple hydroxyl groups (glucose and fructose)), on the aggregation phenomenon of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) at different temperatures (298.15–318.15 K) while maintaining a gap of 5 K. In this study, the critical micelle concentration (cmc) of the SDS/SDS + CFH mixture in water and polyols media was determined from plots of the specific conductivity versus the concentration of SDS to gain knowledge of the effects of CFH/CFH + polyols on the micelle formation behavior of SDS. The cmc value of the surfactant decreases in the presence of CFH in an aqueous medium; thus, CFH favors the micellization of SDS. The cmc values of SDS and the SDS + CFH mixture were enhanced in polyols media. The cmc values of SDS/SDS + CFH show a U-shaped behavior with temperature. The counterion dissociation (α) of the pure surfactant is higher in the presence of the drug and is further enhanced through an increase in the CFH concentration in water/polyols media. Different thermodynamic parameters, such as the Gibbs free energy of micellization , standard enthalpy , entropy , different transfer energies and enthalpy–entropy compensation parameters of micellization were determined and illustrated in detail to compare these parameters between the pure SDS and SDS + CFH mixture in polyols media. The negative values of for the SDS/SDS + CFH mixture in all cases indicate spontaneous micelle formation. The and values indicate the presence of both hydrophobic and electrostatic interactions amongst the studied components. A conductivity method was used to see effects of a ciprofloxacin hydrochloride (CFH)/CFH + polyols (organic compounds with multiple hydroxyl groups (glucose and fructose)) on aggregation phenomenon of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) at 298.15–318.15 K.![]()

Abstract
Micellization behavior of an amphiphilic ethylene oxide-propylene oxide-ethylene oxide tri-block copolymer Pluronic P85 [(EO)(26)(PO)(39)-(EO)(26)] in aqueous solution and in the presence of a hydrophobic C(14)diol (also known as Surfynol104) was examined by physico-chemical methods such as viscometry, cloud point (CP) and scattering techniques viz. dynamic light scattering (DLS) and small angle neutron scattering (SANS). The addition of diol decreases the cloud point and gelation temperature of aqueous Pluronic P85 copolymer solution. DLS and SANS measurements of the polymer in aqueous solution indicated micellar growth and sphere to rod transition in the presence of diol. Surfynol 104 is a sparingly water soluble diol surfactant with a solubility of approximately 0.1 wt%. However, up on addition to Pluronic solution, diol gets incorporated in the block copolymer micelles and leads to structural transition of the micelles. An increase in the temperature and the presence of added sodium chloride in the solution further enhances this effect. The addition of hydrophobic C(14)diol increases the hydrodynamic size and aggregation numbers of the micellar system. The micellar parameters for the copolymer in the presence of C(14)diol are reported at different temperatures and added sodium chloride concentrations.

Abstract
The present study highlights the fact that the effect of additives (urea, monomethylurea, thiourea) on the supramolecular assemblies and proteins is strikingly similar. To investigate the effect, a viscometeric study on sphere-to-rod transition (s-->r) was undertaken in a system (3.5% tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide+0.05 M NaBr + 1-pentanol [P.M. Lindemuth, G.L. Bertand, J. Phys. Chem. 97 (1993) 7769]) in the presence and absence of the said additives. [1-pentanol] needed for s-->r (i.e. [1-pentanol]s-->r) was determined from the relative viscosity versus [1-pentanol] profiles. It was observed that the additives preponed as well as postponed s-->r depending upon their nature and concentrations. These effects are explained in terms of increased polarity of the medium and the adsorption ability of urea/monomethylurea on the charged surfactant monomers of the micelle. In case of thiourea, postponement of s-->r was observed throughout which is attributed to its structure. To derive an analogy between micelles and proteins the additive-induced conformational changes of the protein, bovine serum albumin (BSA) was taken to monitor secondary structural changes and tryptophanyl fluorescence. A marked increase in secondary structure (far-UVCD) and increased tryptophanyl fluorescence with a marked blue shift in lambdamax was observed in presence of low concentrations of urea or alkylurea. This indicates that a more compact environment is created in presence of these additives, if added judiciously. Addition of thiourea to BSA caused a marked quenching without any significant change in lambdamax. The large decrease in tryptophanyl emission in presence of low thiourea concentrations seems to be specific and related to thiourea structure as no corresponding changes were observed in urea/alkylurea. All these effects pertaining to protein behavior fall in line with that of morphological observations on the present as well as surfactant systems studied earlier [S. Kumar, N. Parveen, Kabir-ud-Din, J. Phys. Chem. B 108 (2004) 9588].
