Abstract
The review systematizes data on the wide possibilities of practical application of carbon nanostructures. Much attention is paid to the use of carbon nanomaterials in medicine for the visualization of tumors during surgical interventions, in the creation of cosmetics, as well as in agriculture in the creation of fertilizers. Additionally, we demonstrate trends in research in the field of carbon nanomaterials with a view to elaborating targeted drug delivery systems. We also show the creation of nanosized medicinal substances and diagnostic systems, and the production of new biomaterials. A separate section is devoted to the difficulties in studying carbon nanomaterials. The review is intended for a wide range of readers, as well as for experts in the field of nanotechnology and nanomedicine.

Abstract
The input of chemical and physical sciences to life sciences is increasingly important. Surface science as a complex multidisciplinary research area provides many relevant practical tools to support research in medicine. The tensiometry and surface rheology of human biological liquids as diagnostic tools have been very successfully applied. Additionally, for the characterization of pulmonary surfactants, this methodology is essential to deepen the insights into the functionality of the lungs and for the most efficient administration of certain drugs. Problems in ophthalmology can be addressed using surface science methods, such as the stability of the wetting films and the development of artificial tears. The serious problem of obesity is fast-developing in many industrial countries and must be better understood, while therapies for its treatment must also be developed. Finally, the application of fullerenes as a suitable system for detecting cancer in humans is discussed.

Abstract
Abstract
Different ways of synthesizing bis-, tris-, and octakis-adducts of C60 and C70 lower fullerenes are considered, and their yield and purity are described. The adducts are identified by physicochemical means: elemental analysis, IR, electron spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, HPLC, mass spectrometry, and complex thermal analysis. Their physicochemical properties are modeled using computers, density functional theory, and molecular dynamics at the atomic-molecular level.

Abstract
Synthesis, spectral properties, and photodynamic activity of water-soluble amino acid fullerene C60 derivatives (AFD) and four original AFD-PPa dyads, obtained by covalent addition of dye pyropheophorbide (PPa) to AFD, were studied. In aqueous solution, these AFD-PPa dyads form nanoassociates as a result of self-assembly. In this case, a significant change in the absorption spectra and strong quenching of the dye fluorescence in the structure of the dyads were observed. A comparison of superoxide or singlet oxygen generation efficiency of the studied compounds in an aqueous solution showed the photodynamic mechanism switching from type II (singlet oxygen generation of the native dye) to I type (superoxide generation of dyads). All dyads have pronounced phototoxicity on cells Hela with IC50 9.2 µM, 9.2 µM, 12.2 µM for dyads Val-C60-PPa, Ala-C60-PPa and Pro-C60-PPa, respectively. Such facilitation of type I photodynamic mechanism could be perspective against hypoxic tumors.

Abstract
A large number of low-dimensional nanomaterials having different shapes and being dispersible in solvents open a fundamental question if there is a universal deposition technique for the monolayer formation. A monolayer formation of various nanomaterials at the air-water interface, also known as a Langmuir film, is a well-established technique even for the large group of the recently developed low-dimensional nanomaterials. In this review, we cover the monolayer formation of the zero-dimensional, one-dimensional and two-dimensional nanomaterials. Thanks to the formation of a Langmuir layer at the thermodynamic equilibrium, by using a suitable nanomaterial dispersion and subphase, the monolayers can be formed from all kinds of materials, ranging from the graphene oxide to the semiconducting quantum dots. In this review, we will discuss the basic requirements for the successful formation of monolayers and summarize the recent scientific advances in the field of Langmuir films.

Abstract
Application of dilational surface rheology, surface tensiometry, ellipsometry, Brewster angle, and transmission electron and atomic force microscopies allowed the estimation of the structure of the adsorption layer of a fullerenol with a large number of hydroxyl groups, C60(OH) X ( X = 30 ± 2). The surface properties of fullerenol solutions proved to be similar to the properties of dispersions of solid nanoparticles and differ from those of the solutions of conventional surfactants and amphiphilic macromolecules. Although the surface activity of fullerenol is not high, it forms adsorption layers of high surface elasticity up to 170 mN/m. The layer consists of small interconnected surface aggregates with the thickness corresponding to two-three layers of fullerenol molecules. The aggregates are not adsorbed from the bulk phase but formed at the interface. The adsorption kinetics is controlled by an electrostatic adsorption barrier at the interface.
