Abstract
Cyclodextrin (CD) derivatives have recently gained worldwide attention, which have versatile advantages and restrained the defects of parent CDs. The superior properties of CD derivatives in encapsulation, stabilization, and solubilization facilitate their application in food, biomedicine, daily chemicals, and textiles. In this review, the preparation, classification, and main benefits of CD derivatives are systematically introduced. By introducing targeted groups into the parent CD molecule, they exhibit significant improvement in their required characteristic. Besides, the important point closely related to application, the safety assessment, has also been highlighted. Most tested CD derivatives have been verified to be relatively safe in a limited dosage. Then, the applications of CD derivatives have been described in detail from the food to its related field. In food field, CD derivatives play an important role in the stability and bioavailability of bioactive compounds, control flavor release, and improve the antimicrobial and antioxidant properties of packaging materials. These advantages can also be expanded to the related field, offering innovative solutions that enhance product quality, human health, and environmental sustainability. This review highlights the broad applications and potential of CD derivatives, underscoring their role in driving advancements across multiple industries.

Abstract
A special nano-filter made of cellulose acetate (CA) was developed, including a 3D hierarchically porous structure. The nano-filter utilized nano-clay (hydrophilic bentonite (NCB)), comprising 0.5-1.5 % of its weight. The objective of this study was to evaluate the adsorption properties of four carcinogenic polyaromatic hydrocarbons (benz[α] anthracene (BαA), chrysene (CHR), benzo[β]fluoranthene (BβF), and benzo[α] pyrene (BαP)) during the rice smoking process. The evaluation of the nano-filter encompassed an analysis of its mechanical attributes, surface qualities, morphology, and adsorption efficacy. The experimental results demonstrated that adding NCB to the nano-filter composition of CA led to substantial improvements in tensile strength, elongation at break, and maximum load stress values compared to the control group. The nano-filter displayed a uniform and homogeneously distributed arrangement of nanoparticles. The GC-MS analysis demonstrated that the enhanced nano-filter, comprising nano-clay particles, successfully absorbed the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) over a 21-day rice smoking period. The performance, removal efficiency and porosity during repetitive filtering and cleaning cycles in the rice samples at different smoking times were approved reusability of CA-NCB filter. It is recommended to explore the application of hybrid CA nano-filter s, namely those containing NCB, as a cutting-edge filtration technique for smoked food products.

Abstract
Electrospinning is one of the most promising techniques for producing biopolymer nanofibers for various applications. Proteins and polysaccharides, among other biopolymers, are attractive substrates for electrospinning due to their favorable biocompatibility and biodegradability. However, there are still challenges to improve the mechanical properties, water sensitivity and biological activity of biopolymer nanofibers. Therefore, these strategies such as polymer blending, application of cross-linking agents, the addition of nanoparticles and bioactive components, and modification of biopolymer have been developed to enhance the properties of biopolymer nanofibers. Among them, antibacterial aroma compounds (AACs) from essential oils are widely used as bioactive components and property modifiers in various biopolymer nanofibers to enhance the functionality, hydrophobicity, thermal properties, and mechanical properties of nanofibers, which depends on the electrospun strategy of AACs. This review summarizes the recently reported antimicrobial activities and applications of AACs, and compares the effects of four electrospinning strategies for encapsulating AACs on the properties and applications of nanofibers. The authors focus on the correlation of the main characteristics of these biopolymer electrospun nanofibers with the encapsulation strategy of AACs in the nanofibers. Moreover, this review also particularly emphasizes the impact of the characteristics of these nanofibers on their application field of antimicrobial materials.

Abstract
Obesity leads to the development of many metabolic diseases, causing severe health problems. Menthol can induce adipocyte browning and thus has been used to combat obesity. To deliver menthol with a sustained effect, an injectable hydrogel that comprises carboxymethyl chitosan and aldehyde-functionalized alginate that are crosslinked through dynamic Schiff-base linkages is developed to load menthol-cyclodextrin inclusion complexes (IC). To render the as-developed hydrogel soluble after its payload is released, amino acid-loaded liposomes, functioning as nanocontrollers, are covalently grafted onto networks of the hydrogel. Upon subcutaneous injection in mice with diet-induced obesity, the as-developed hydrogel absorbs body fluids and spontaneously swells, expanding and stretching its networks, gradually releasing the loaded IC. Menthol then disassociates from the released IC to induce adipocyte browning, triggering fat consumption and increasing energy expenditure. Meanwhile, the expanded hydrogel networks destabilize the grafted liposomes, which function as built-in nanocontrollers, unleashing their loaded amino acid molecules to disrupt the dynamic Schiff-base linkages, causing hydrogel to dissolve. The thus-developed nanocontroller-mediated dissolving hydrogel realizes the sustained release of menthol for treating obesity and its related metabolic disorders without leaving exogenous hydrogel materials inside the body, and thereby preventing any undesired adverse effects.

Abstract
Air transports several pollutants, including particulate matter (PM), which can produce cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. Thus, it is a challenge to control pollutant emissions before releasing them to the environment. Until now, filtration has been the most efficient processes for removing PM. Therefore, the electrospinning procedure has been applied to obtain membranes with a high filtration efficiency and low pressure drop. This review addressed the synthesis of polymers that are used for fabricating high-performance membranes by electrospinning to remove air pollutants. Then, the most influential parameters to produce electrospun membranes are indicated. The main results show that electrospun membranes are an excellent alternative to having air filters due to the versatility of the process, the capacity for controlling the fiber diameter, porosity, high filtration efficiency and low-pressure drop.

Abstract
Recently, human hair keratin has been widely studied and applied in clinical fields due to its good histocompatibility, biocompatibility, and biodegradability. However, the regenerated keratin from human hair cannot be electrospun alone because of its low molecular weight. Herein, gamma polyglutamic acid (γ-PGA) was first selected to fabricate smooth and uniform γ-PGA/keratin composite scaffolds with excellent biocompatibility and biodegradability by electrospinning technology and a chemical cross-linking method in this study. The effect of electrospinning parameters on the structure and morphology, the mechanism of chemical cross-linking, biocompatibility in vitro cell culture experiments, and biodegradability in phosphate-buffered saline buffer solution and trypsin solution of the γ-PGA/keratin electrospun nanofibrous scaffolds (ENS) was studied. The results show that the cross-linked γ-PGA/keratin ENSs had excellent water stability and biodegradability. The γ-PGA/keratin ENSs showed better biocompatibility in promoting cell adhesion and cell growth compared with the γ-PGA ENSs. It is expected that γ-PGA/keratin ENSs will be easily and significantly used in tissue engineering to repair or regenerate materials.

Abstract
In this study, zanthoxylum bungeanum essential oil/β-cyclodextrin inclusion complexes (ZBEO/β-CD-ICs) were first prepared by precipitation method. When the addition of ZBEO was 1 g, the reaction time was 4 h and the reaction temperature was 55 °C, the recovery (73.88%) and loading content (9.53%) reached the highest value. The characterization results showed inclusion complexation changed the crystalline structure, enhanced interaction among molecules and increased the thermal stability. Then, nanofiber films containing ZBEO/β-CD-ICs were prepared by electrospinning. When the total polymer concentration was constant at 20%, with the increase of ZBEO/β-CD-IC content, the diameter of nanofiber and mechanical strength decreased, but the temperature corresponding to the maximum rate of weight loss increased. X-ray diffraction analysis proved that the addition of ZBEO/β-CD-IC increased the crystallinity degree of film. The Fourier transform infrared spectra indicated hydrogen bond interactions among molecules. Releasing behavior of ZBEO indicated that increase of temperature and relative humidity accelerated the releasing speed. Antibacterial and antioxidant activity results demonstrated the increase of ZBEO content enhanced antibacterial and antioxidant efficiency, Z40P10 nanofibers had the maximum antibacterial rate of 62.02% against S. aureus and the maximum antioxidant activity of 60.18%.

Abstract
This paper addresses the changing of the process parameters of nozzleless centrifugal spinning (forcespinning). The primary aim of this study was to determine the dependence of the final product on the dosing of the polymer, the rotation speed of the spinneret and the airflow in order to determine the extent of the technological applicability of aqueous polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and its modifications. PVA was chosen because it is a widely used polymeric solution with environmentally friendly properties and good biodegradability. It is used in the health care and food packaging sectors. The nanofibrous layers were produced by means of a mobile handheld spinning device of our own construction. This mobile application of the spinning machine has several limitations compared to stationary laboratory equipment, mainly due to dimensional limitations. The uniqueness of our device lies in the possibility of its actual use outside the laboratory. In addition to improved mobility, another exciting feature is the combination of nozzleless forcespinning and fiber application using airflow. Dosing, the rotation speed of the spinnerets and the targeted and controlled use of air comprise the fundamental technological parameters for many devices that operate on a centrifugal force system. The rotation rate of the spinnerets primarily affects the production of fibers and their quality, while the airflow acts as a fiber transport and drying medium. The quality of the fibers was evaluated following the preparation of a testing set for the fiber layers. The most suitable combinations of rotation speed and airflow were then used in subsequent experiments to determine the ideal settings for the device. The solution was then modified by reducing the concentration to 16% and adding a surfactant, thus leading to a reduction in the diameters of the resulting fibers. The nanofiber layers so produced were examined using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) in order to analyze the number of defects and to statistically evaluate the fiber diameters.

Abstract
Food flavors are volatile compounds that impact the human sensory perception profoundly and find extensive applications in various food products. Because of their volatility and high sensitivity to pH, temperature, oxidation, and external conditions, they require adequate protection to last for a longer duration. Encapsulation plays a critical role in preserving food flavors by enhancing their thermal and oxidative stability, overcoming volatility limitations, and regulating their rapid release with improved bioavailability in food products. The current review focuses on the recent developments in food flavor encapsulation techniques, such as electrospinning/spraying, cyclodextrin inclusion complexes, coacervation, and yeast cell micro-carriers. The review also comprehensively discusses the role of encapsulants in achieving controlled flavor release, the mechanisms involved, and the mathematical modelling for flavor release. Specific well-established nanoencapsulation techniques render better encapsulation efficiency and controlled release of flavor compounds. The review examined specific emerging methods for flavor encapsulation, such as yeast cell encapsulation, which require further exploration and development. This article provides readers with up-to-date information on different encapsulation processes and coating methods used for flavor encapsulation.

Abstract
Poly(methyl vinyl ether-alt-maleic anhydride) (PMVEMA) of 119 and 139 molecular weights (P119 and P139, respectively) were electrospun to evaluate the resulting fibers as a topical delivery vehicle for (L-)menthol. Thus, electrospinning parameters were optimized for the production of uniform bead-free fibers from 12% w/w PMVEMA (±2.3% w/w menthol) solutions, and their morphology and size were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). The fibers of P119 (F119s) and P139 (F139s) showed average diameter sizes of approximately 534 and 664 nm, respectively, when unloaded, and 837 and 1369 nm when loaded with menthol. The morphology of all types of fibers was cylindrical except for F139s, which mostly displayed a double-ribbon-like shape. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis determined that not only was the menthol encapsulation efficiency higher in F139s (92% versus 68% in F119s) but also that its stability over time was higher, given that in contrast with F119s, no significant losses in encapsulated menthol were detected in the F139s after 10 days post-production. Finally, in vitro biological assays showed no significant induction of cytotoxicity for any of the experimental fibers or in the full functionality of the encapsulated menthol, as it achieved equivalent free-menthol levels of activation of its specific receptor, the (human) transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily M (melastatin) member 8 (TRPM8).

Abstract
In recent years, ecological issues have led to the search for new green materials from biomass as precursors for producing carbon materials (CNFs). Such green materials are more attractive than traditional petroleum-based materials, which are environmentally harmful and non-biodegradable. Biomass could be ideal precursors for nanofibers since they stem from renewable sources and are low-cost. Recently, many authors have focused intensively on nanofibers' production from biomass using microwave-assisted pyrolysis, hydrothermal treatment, ultrasonication method, but only a few on electrospinning methods. Moreover, still few studies deal with the production of electrospun carbon nanofibers from biomass. This review focuses on the new developments and trends of electrospun carbon nanofibers from biomass and aims to fill this research gap. The review is focusing on recollecting the most recent investigations about the preparation of carbon nanofiber from biomass and biopolymers as precursors using electrospinning as the manufacturing method, and the most important applications, such as energy storage that include fuel cells, electrochemical batteries and supercapacitors, as well as wastewater treatment, CO2 capture, and medicine.

Abstract
Three-dimensional (3D) composite polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)/polyacrylonitrile (PAN) electrospun nanofibrous membranes combining both thick and thin nanofibers have been fabricated by the method of multi-jet electrospinning with sheath gas to realize high-efficiency air filtration under a low pressure drop. The thin PAN nanofibers form a dense membrane, with a strong capturing ability on the ultra-fine particles, while the thick PVDF nanofibers play a 3D supporting effect on the thin PAN nanofibers. In this case, the combination results in a fluffy membrane with higher porosity, which could achieve the airflow passing through the membrane without the air pressure drop. The effects of the composite manner of thick nanofibers and thin nanofibers are investigated, in order to optimize the air filtration performance of the 3D composite nanofibrous membrane. As a result, the maximum quality factor for air filtration could reach up to 0.398 Pa-1. The particle-fiber interaction model was used to simulate the air filtration process as well, and the simulation results were fairly consistent with the experimental results, providing a guidance method for the optimization of composite nanofibrous membrane for high-efficiency air filtration. More interestingly, a cationic poly[2-(N,N-dimethyl amino) ethyl methacrylate] (PDMAEMA) was added in the PVDF solution to obtain a composite air filtration membrane with excellent antibiosis performance, which achieved the highest inhibition rate of approximately 90%. In short, this work provides an effective way to promote antibiosis air filtration performance by using an electrospun nanofibrous membrane, and might also effectively accelerate the biological protection application of current air filtration membranes.
