Abstract
The performance of catalytic ability of MFe2O4/MoS2 in the ozonation process was investigated in this work. The synthesized MnFe2O4/MoS2 was optimize prepared and then characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photo-electron spectroscopy, and magnetic saturation strength. The results showed that when Cphenol = 200 mg/L, initial pH = 9.0, Q = 0.10 L/min, and CMnFe2O4/MoS2 = 0.10 g/L, MnFe2O4/MoS2 addition improved the degradation efficiency of phenol by 20.0%. The effects of pH, catalyst dosage, and inorganic ions on the phenol removal by the MnFe2O4/MoS2 catalytic ozonation were investigated. Five cycle experiments proved that MnFe2O4/MoS2 had good recyclability and stability. MnFe2O4/MoS2 also showed good catalytic performance in the treatment of coal chemical wastewater pesticide wastewater. The MnFe2O4 doped with MoS2 could provide abundant surface active sites for ozone and promote the stable cycle of Mn2+/Mn3+and Fe2+/Fe3+, thus generating large amounts of •OH and improving the degradation of phenol by ozonation. The MnFe2O4/MoS2/ozonation treatment system provides a technical reference and theoretical basis for industrial wastewater treatment.

Abstract
In order to overcome the shortcomings in the traditional Fenton process, Fe(III)-EDDS-activated persulfate advanced oxidation process under irradiation is carried out as a promising technology. The photodegradation of sulfadiazine (SD) in Fe(III)-EDDS-activated persulfate system was investigated in this paper. The results showed that SD could be effectively degraded in Fe(III)-EDDS/S 2 O 8 2 - /hv system. The effects of Fe(III):EDDS molar ratio, the concentration of Fe(III)-EDDS, and the concentration of S 2 O 8 2 - on SD degradation were explored. At neutral pH, when Fe(III):EDDS = 1:1, Fe(III)-EDDS = 0.1 mM, S 2 O 8 2 - = 1.5 mM, the best SD degradation was achieved. The experiment of external influence factors showed that the degradation of SD could be obviously inhibited by the presence of C O 3 2 - , S O 4 2 - , whereas the degradation of SD was almost unaffected by the addition ofCl-. The degradation of SD could be slightly inhibited by the presence of humic acid and NO3-. The effect of pH on SD degradation was investigated, and SD could be degraded effectively in the pH range of 3-9. ESR proved that 1O2, ·OH, S O 4 - , and O2- were produced in the process. S O 4 - and ·OH were identified as the main radicals while O2·- also played non-ignorable role. Eleven intermediate products of SD were analysed. The C = N, S-N, and S-C bonds of SD were attacked by radicals firstly, leading to a series of reactions that eventually resulted in the destruction of SD molecules and the formation of small organic molecules.

Abstract
The persulfate-based advanced oxidation process has been an effective method for refractory organic pollutants' degradation in aqueous phase. Herein, α-MnO2 with nanowire morphology was facially fabricated via a one-step hydrothermal method and successfully activated peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for Rhodamine B (RhB) degradation. Influencing factors, including the hydrothermal parameter, PMS concentration, α-MnO2 dosage, RhB concentration, initial pH, and anions, were systematically investigated. The corresponding reaction kinetics were further fitted by the pseudo-first-order kinetic. The RhB degradation mechanism via α-MnO2 activating PMS was proposed according to a series of quenching experiments and the UV-vis scanning spectrum. Results showed that α-MnO2 could effectively activate PMS to degrade RhB and has good repeatability. The catalytic RhB degradation reaction was accelerated by increasing the catalyst dosage and the PMS concentration. The effective RhB degradation performance can be attributed to the high content of surface hydroxyl groups and the greater reducibility of α-MnO2, and the contribution of different ROS (reactive oxygen species) was 1O2 > O2·- > SO4·- > ·OH.

Catalytic Degradation of Ciprofloxacin in Aqueous Solution by Peroxymonosulfate Activated with a Magnetic CuFe2O4@Biochar Composite. Int J Mol Sci 2023; 24:ijms24065702. Abstract
A magnetic copper ferrite and biochar composite (CuFe2O4@BC) catalyst was prepared by an improved sol-gel calcination method and initially used for the removal of antibiotics ciprofloxacin (CIP) by activated peroxymonosulfate (PMS). Using CuFe2O4@BC as the activator, 97.8% CIP removal efficiency could be achieved in 30 min. After a continuous degradation cycle, CuFe2O4@BC catalyst still exhibited great stability and repeatability and could also be quickly recovered by an external magnetic field. Meanwhile, the CuFe2O4@BC/PMS system presented good stability for metal ion leaching, which was far less than the leaching of metal ions in the CuFe2O4/PMS system. Moreover, the effects of various influencing factors, such as initial solution pH, activator loading, PMS dosage, reaction temperature, humic acid (HA), and the inorganic anions were explored. The quenching experiments and the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) analysis manifested that hydroxyl radical (•OH), sulfate radical (SO4•−), superoxide radical (O2•−), and singlet oxygen (1O2) were generated in the CuFe2O4@BC/PMS system, while 1O2 and O2•− are mainly involved in the degradation process. The synergistic effect between CuFe2O4 and BC enhanced the structural stability and electrical conductivity of the material, which promoted the bonding between the catalyst and PMS, resulting in the enhanced catalytic activity of CuFe2O4@BC. This indicates that CuFe2O4@BC activating PMS is a promising remediation technique for CIP-contaminated water.

Abstract
This paper reports the degradation of the sulfadiazine (SDZ) drug with a hybrid advanced oxidation process (AOP) of heterogeneous α-Fe2O3/persulfate coupled with hydrodynamic cavitation. The major objectives of the study are parametric optimization of the process and elucidation of the chemical mechanism of degradation. The optimum conditions for maximum SDZ degradation of 93.07 ± 1.67% were as follows: initial SDZ concentration = 20 ppm, pH = 4, α-Fe2O3 = 181.82 mg/L, Na2S2O8 = 348.49 mg/L, H2O2 = 0.95 mL/L, inlet pressure = 0.81 MPa (8 atm), orifice plate configuration: hole dia. = 2 mm and number of holes = 4. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed that the atoms of SDZ with a high Fukui index (f 0) were potentially active sites for the attack of •OH and [Formula: see text] radicals. Fukui index calculation revealed that atom 11 N has a higher value of f 0 (0.1026) for oxidation at the α-amine group of the sulfadiazine molecule. Degradation intermediates detected through LC-MS/MS analysis corroborated the results of DFT simulations. Using these results, a chemical pathway has been proposed for SDZ degradation.

Abstract
Ordered mesoporous manganese oxides (MnOx) were synthesized using the modified inverse micelle method. The crystal structure and surface morphology were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The element content and changes in surface valence of catalysts were analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The MnOx were used to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to degrade tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH). The catalytic activity of MnOx was enhanced at a calcination temperature of 350 °C (MM-3). The degradation efficiency of TCH in MM-3/PMS system was 87.89% in 180 min. Appropriate dosages of catalyst and PMS improve the degradation efficiency of TCH. This system showed a wide range of pH application (3-9). In the presence of coexisting ions and humic acid, the degradation efficiency of TCH was still above 80%. The results of free radical capture experiment and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) test proved that the system activates PMS to produce three types of free radicals: SO4-, OH and 1O2. Therefore, MM-3 is a promising catalyst for the degradation of TCH in practical wastewater treatment.

Abstract
Organoarsenic contaminants existing in water body threat human health and ecological environment due to insufficient bifunctional treatment technologies for organoarsenic degradation and inorganic arsenic immobilization. In order to safely and efficiently treat organoarsenic contaminants discharged into the aquatic environment, Co-Mn-Fe layered double hydroxide (CoMnFe-LDH) and Co-Mn-Fe layered double oxide (CoMnFe-LDO) were fabricated and employed as peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activator for organoarsenic degradation and inorganic arsenic immobilization, and p-arsanilic acid (p-ASA) was selected as target pollutant. Results demonstrated that the satisfactory removal of p-ASA (100.0%) in both CoMnFe-LDH/PMS and CoMnFe-LDO/PMS systems was obtained within 30 min, and substantial inorganic arsenic adsorption could be achieved (below 0.5 mg/L) in two systems with converting major inorganic arsenic species to arsenate. As XPS, ESR and quenching experiment revealed, the existence and generation of surface-bound radicals in two systems were identified. Based on density functional theory calculation and XPS analysis, the catalytic mechanism of CoMnFe-LDO/PMS system that PMS could be activated via direct electron transfer from adsorbed p-ASA was clarified, which differed from PMS activation via coupling with surface hydroxyl groups in CoMnFe-LDH/PMS system. Catalytic performance assessment under various critical operation parameters indicated that CoMnFe-LDH presented more stable ability of p-ASA removal in a wide pH range and complex aquatic environment. The recycle experiment demonstrated the excellent stability and reusability of CoMnFe-LDH(LDO). Besides, seven degradation products of p-ASA in CoMnFe-LDH/PMS system including phenolic compounds, azophenylarsonic acid, nitrobenzene and benzoquinne were identified by UV-Vis spectra and LC-TOF-MS analysis, and the corresponding degradation pathway was proposed. In summary, compared to CoMnFe-LDO/PMS, CoMnFe-LDH/PMS holds great promise for the development of an oxidation-adsorption process for efficient control of organoarsenic pollutant.

Abstract
Fe-based catalysts as low-cost, high-efficiency, and non-toxic materials display superior catalytic performances in activating hydrogen peroxide, persulfate (PS), peracetic acid (PAA), percarbonate (PC), and ozone to degrade organic contaminants in aqueous solutions. They mainly include ferrous salts, zero-valent iron, iron-metal composites, iron sulfides, iron oxyhydroxides, iron oxides, and supported iron-based catalysts, which have been widely applied in advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). However, there is lack of a comprehensive review systematically reporting their synthesis, characterization, and applications. It is imperative to evaluate the catalytic performances of various Fe-based catalysts in diverse AOPs systems and reveal the activation mechanisms of different oxidants by Fe-based catalysts. This work detailedly summarizes the synthesis methods and characterization technologies of Fe-based catalysts. This paper critically evaluates the catalytic performances of Fe-based catalysts in diverse AOPs systems. The effects of solution pH, reaction temperature, coexisting ions, oxidant concentration, catalyst dosage, and external energy on the degradation of organic contaminants in the Fe-based catalyst/oxidant systems and the stability of Fe-based catalysts are also discussed. The activation mechanisms of various oxidants and the degradation pathways of organic contaminants in the Fe-based catalyst/oxidant systems are revealed by a series of novel detection methods and characterization technologies. Future research prospects on the potential preparation means of Fe-based catalysts, practical applications, assistive technologies, and impact in AOPs are proposed.

Abstract
Low-cost, eco-friendly and effective catalysts are essential for activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to purify water. Hence, we investigated using thermal activation natural low-grade manganese ore (CNMO) as an effective catalyst to activate PMS for the removal of Acid Orange 7 (AO7), a harmful azo dye. CNMO exhibited a more effective activation ability than either the pure component substances alone or natural manganese ore (NMO), owing to its increased charge transfer, pore size and acidic sites. The activation mechanism of PMS was elucidated, and the degradation of AO7 was noted to have been caused by singlet oxygen (1O2), and increased electron transfer. Moreover, the outstanding degradation of AO7 in actual water indicated that the CNMO/PMS system was highly resistant to surrounding organic and inorganic compounds, and the CNMO exhibited extraordinarily high stability and recyclability. Thus, this study provides not only a new choice of PMS activator that offers low cost, and excellent and stable performance, but also a novel direction for the efficient utilization of low-grade manganese ore. Thermally activated natural low-grade manganese ore was used as an efficient and stable catalyst for enhancing the activation of PMS through increased charge transfer, pore size and acidic sites.![]()

Abstract
Solid waste resource utilization and the treatment of wastewater are two important aspects in environmental protection. Here, biochar (BC) derived from municipal sewage sludge has been combined with ZnFe2O4 to form the photocatalyst ZnFe2O4/biochar (ZnFe/BC), and it was used to degrade sulfadiazine (SDZ) in the presence of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) under visible (Vis) light irradiation in an internal loop-airlift reactor (ALR). The surface morphology and structure of ZnFe/BC have been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy equipped with an attachment for energy-dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-Vis DRS). ZnFe/BC displays outstanding photocatalytic performance and reusability. After four reuse cycles of ZnFe/BC in the Vis/ZnFe/BC/PMS system, the SDZ degradation rate and efficiency still reached 0.082 min−1 and 99.05%, respectively. Reactive species in this system included free radicals SO4˙−, ˙OH, and ˙O2−, as well as non-radicals 1O2, e−, and h+, as established from the results of chemical quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) analyses. Moreover, a mechanism of action of the Vis/ZnFe/BC/PMS system for SDZ degradation was proposed. The acute toxicity of the reaction solution towards Photobacterium phosphoreum T3 spp. in the Vis/ZnFe/BC/PMS process increased during the first 40 min and then decreased, illustrating that Vis/ZnFe/BC/PMS provided an effective and safe method for the removal of SDZ. Solid waste resource utilization and the treatment of wastewater are two important aspects in environmental protection.![]()

Abstract
Environment-friendly nano-catalysts capable of activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS) have received increasing attention recently. Nevertheless, traditional nano-catalysts are generally well dispersed and difficult to be separated from reaction system, so it is particularly important to develop nano-catalysts with both good catalytic activity and excellent recycling efficiency. In this work, magnetically recoverable Fe3O4-modified ternary CoFeCu-layered double hydroxides (Fe3O4/CoFeCu-LDHs) was prepared by a simple co-precipitation method and initially applied to activate PMS for the degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB). X-ray diffraction (XRD), fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FT-IR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller method (BET), and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) were applied to characterize morphology, structure, specific surface area and magnetism. In addition, the effects of several key parameters were evaluated. The Fe3O4/CoFeCu-LDHs exhibited high catalytic activity, and RhB degradation efficiency could reach 100% within 20 min by adding 0.2 g/L of catalyst and 1 mmol/L of PMS into 50 mg/L of RhB solution under a wide pH condition (3.0-7.0). Notably, the Fe3O4/CoFeCu-LDHs showed good super-paramagnetism and excellent stability, which could be effectively and quickly recovered under magnetic condition, and the degradation efficiency after ten cycles could still maintain 98.95%. Both radicals quenching tests and electron spin resonance (ESR) identified both HO• and SO4•- were involved and SO4•- played a dominant role on the RhB degradation. Finally, the chemical states of the sample's surface elements were measured by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and the possible activation mechanism in Fe3O4/CoFeCu-LDHs/PMS system was proposed according to comprehensive analysis.

Abstract
Herein, a dual Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst consisting of Co3O4, CuBi2O4, and SmVO4 for carbamazepine (CBZ) degradation was synthesised and characterised by XRD, FTIR, UV-Vis DRS, XPS, FE-SEM, and TEM. The reduction in electron-hole recombination was evaluated by PL, LSV, and EIS analysis. The heterojunction, Co3O4/CuBi2O4/SmVO4 (CCBSV) showed enhanced photocatalytic activity of 76.1% ± 3.81 CBZ degradation under visible light irradiation, ascribed to the improved interfacial contact, visible light capturing ability, and enhanced electron-hole separation and transportation through the formation of Z-scheme heterojunction. The formation of dual Z-scheme was confirmed by active radical experiments and XPS analysis that helped to prose the mechanism of degradation. The catalyst showed sustained stability after 4 cycles of reuse. Ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC-QTOF-MS) was employed to identify the degradation by-products of CBZ, and a possible mechanistic degradation pathway was proposed. This study provided an insight into the development of efficient dual Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst for remediation of CBZ which can be extended to other organic pollutants.
