Abstract
In this study, an active biofilm was developed by incorporating red dragon fruit peel (RDF) extract into soy protein isolate (SPI) film matrix for sustainable food packaging. The addition of betalain-rich-RDF extract (1-7 wt%) significantly improved UV-blocking and antioxidant properties of the film compared to the control film. As wt% of RDF-extract increased, water vapor permeability, water solubility, and elongation at break decreased by 1.06 × 10-10 g m m-2 s-1 Pa-1, 34.25%, and 133.25%, respectively. On the other hand, Tensile strength increased significantly (P < 0.05) by 78.76%. FTIR results confirmed the intermolecular interaction between RDF extract and SPI through hydrogen bonding, while XRD result showed a decrease in the crystallinity degree of the film with RDF extract addition. However, no significant change in the TGA curve between extract-incorporated SPI films was observed. SEM analysis revealed that SPI B and SPI D films had a more compact and denser structure than the control film, while AFM analysis showed an increase in Ra and Rq values representing higher surface roughness of SPI D film. SPI D film also significantly (P < 0.05) decreased the weight loss and increased total soluble solids of freshly cut apples over 7-day storage period. Abstract
The effect of wheat gluten (WG)/phenolic extracts (PE) coating on the storage qualities of salmon fillets was studied. Porphyra haitanensis, belonging to red algae, possesses abundant phenolic compounds. Films were prepared by incorporating phenolic extracts (0, 0.5%, 0.75%, and 1.0%, w/v) from Porphyra haitanensis to WG. The PE showed strong antioxidant activities by scavenging DPPH and ABTS radicals. The increased addition of PE to WG film significantly increased tensile strength compared to that of WG film, but reduced water vapor permeability. The quality of salmon fillet stored at 4 °C from 0 to 9 days was decreased due to the oxidation of lipid and protein. However, the increased addition of PE to WG significantly reduced pH, TVB-N, TBA, peroxide value, total sulfhydryl content, and carbonyl content of salmon fillet compared to control salmon fillet. In addition, the increased addition of PE to WG also significantly improved water holding capacity, hardness, chewiness, and springiness of salmon fillet during storage compared to those of control salmon fillet. Taken together, this study showed phenolic extracts from Porphyra haitanensis improved wheat gluten-based film properties and further enhanced the qualities of coated salmon fillet during storage.

Abstract
Boosting stretchability and electric output is critical for high-performance wearable triboelectric nanogenerators (TENG). Herein, for the first time, a new approach for tuning the composition of surface functional groups through surfactant self-assembly to improve the tribopositivity, where the assembly increases the transferred charge density and the relative permittivity of water polyurethane (WPU). Incorporating bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (TFSI-) and alkali metal ions into a mixture of WPU and the surfactant forms a stretchable film that simultaneously functions as positive tribolayer and electrode, preventing the conventional detachment of tribolayer and electrode in long term usage. Further, the conductivity of the crosslinked film reaches 3.3 × 10-3 mS cm-1 while the elongation at break reaches 362%. Moreover, the surfactant self-assembly impedes the adverse impact of the fluorine-containing groups on tribopositivity. Consequently, the charge density reaches 155 µC m-2, being the highest recorded for WPU and stretchable ionic conductor based TENG. This work introduces a novel approach for boosting the output charge density while avoiding the adverse effect of ionic salts in solid conductors through a universal surfactant self-assembly strategy, which can be extended to other materials. Further, the device is used to monitor and harvest the kinetic energy of human body motion.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There has been a significant growth in demand for plant-derived protein, and this has been accompanied by an increasing need for sustainable animal-feed options. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of magnetic field-assisted solid fermentation (MSSF) on the in vitro protein digestibility (IVPD) and functional and structural characteristics of rapeseed meal (RSM) with a mutant strain of Bacillus subtilis. RESULTS Our investigation demonstrated that the MSSF nitrogen release rate reached 86.3% after 96 h of fermentation. The soluble protein and peptide content in magnetic field feremented rapeseed meal reached 29.34 and 34.49 mg mL-1 after simulated gastric digestion, and the content of soluble protein and peptide in MF-FRSM reached 61.81 and 69.85 mg mL-1 after simulated gastrointestinal digestion, which significantly increased (p > 0.05) compared with the fermented rapeseed meal (FRSM). Studies of different microstructures - using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) - and protein secondary structures have shown that the decline in intermolecular or intramolecular cross-linking leads to the relative dispersion of proteins and improves the rate of nitrogen release. The smaller number of disulfide bonds and conformational alterations suggests that the IVPD of RSM was improved. CONCLUSIONS Magnetic field-assisted solid fermentation can be applied to enhance the nutritional and protein digestibility of FRSM. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
Biodegradable liquid mulch is considered a promising alternative to plastic mulch for sustainable agriculture. This work proposed a xyloglucan-based liquid mulch with multi-function using a combination of chemical modification and blending methods. The esterification product of tamarind xyloglucan (TXG) from forestry wastes was synthesized with benzoic anhydride (BA). The effect of esterification modification was investigated, and BA-TXG was utilized as a film-forming and sand-fixation agent. The rheological properties, thermal stability, and hydrophobicity were improved following esterification. Additionally, waterborne polyurethane and urea were incorporated into the mulch to enhance its mechanical strength (23.28 MPa, 80.71 %), and homogeneity, as well as improve its nutritive properties. The xyloglucan-based liquid mulch has excellent UV protection, a high haze value (approximately 90 %), and retains water at a rate of 80.45 %. SEM and immersion experiment showed the effect of xyloglucan-based liquid mulch on sustainable sand-fixation. Moreover, the liquid mulch treatment demonstrated an impressive germination rate of 83.8 % and degradation rate of 51.59 % (60 days). The modified polysaccharide film increases stability and slows down the degradation rate. Tamarind xyloglucan-based liquid mulch exhibits powerful and diverse optical properties as well as sand fixation functions, indicating their great potential in sustainable agriculture as an alternative to plastic mulch.

Abstract
The fava bean protein isolate (FBPI) holds promise as a sustainable plant-based protein ingredient. However, native FBPIs exhibit limited functionality, including unsuitable emulsifying activities and a low solubility at a neutral pH, restricting their applications. This study is focused on the effect of ultrasonication (US) and pulsed electric fields (PEF) on modulating the techno-functional properties of FBPIs. Native FBPIs were treated with US at amplitudes of 60-90% for 30 min in 0.5 s on-and-off cycles and with PEF at an electric field intensity of 1.5 kV/cm with 1000-4000 pulses of 20 μs pulse widths. US caused a reduction in the size and charge of the FBPIs more prominently than the PEF. Protein characterization by means of SDS-PAGE illustrated that US and PEF caused severe-to-moderate changes in the molecular weight of the FBPIs. In addition, a spectroscopic analysis using Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) and circular dichroism (CD) revealed that US and the PEF induced conformational changes through partial unfolding and secondary structure remodeling from an α-helix to a β-sheet. Crystallographic and calorimetric determinations indicated decreased crystallinity and lowered thermal transition temperatures of the US- and PEF-modified FBPIs. Overall, non-thermal processing provided an effective strategy for upgrading FBPIs' functionality, with implications for developing competitive plant-based protein alternatives.

Abstract
Waterborne polyurethane (WPU) is a waterborne coating with excellent physicochemical properties. Its deficiencies of water resistance, chemical resistance, staining, and hardness have limited the wide application of polyurethane in the wood lacquer market. In this study, polycarbonate diols (PCDL) were used as soft segments and WPCU was modified by cross-linking using Trimethylolpropane (TMP) to prepare polycarbonate type WPU (WPCU) with cross-linked network structure. The new wood lacquer was prepared by adding various additives and tested by applying it on wood board. The successful synthesis of WPCU was determined by FTIR testing, and the cross-linking degree of WPCU was probed by low-field NMR. The viscosity of the cross-linked WPCU emulsion showed a decreasing trend compared to the uncross-linked WPCU emulsion, and WPCU-2 had the smallest particle size. Compared with the uncrosslinked WPCU film, the crosslinked WPCU film had lower water absorption (2.2%), higher water contact angle (72.7°), excellent tensile strength (44.02 MPa), higher thermomechanical, and better water and alcohol resistance. The effect of crosslinker content on the microphase separation of WPCU chain segments on the surface roughness of the film was investigated by SEM. The wood paint prepared by WPCU emulsion has good dry heat resistance, chemical resistance, and adhesion, and the hardness of the wood paint when the TMP content is 3% reaches H. It also has good resistance to sticky stains, which can be used to develop new wood lacquer.

Abstract
This study was carried out to develop soy protein isolate (SPI)/sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (NaCMC) synbiotic microgels by applying a double-crosslinking technique using transglutaminase and different concentrations of AlCl3 (0, 6, 7, 8 %) and also by adding Lactobacillus acidophilus (L. acidophilus) and pectic oligosaccharide. Synbiotic microgels crosslinked using 8 % AlCl3 (SPI/NaCMC-Al3+8 microgels) showed the highest encapsulation efficiency (92 %). The double-crosslinked microgels exhibited a smooth surface as proved by SEM. FT-IR, XRD, and DSC analyses showed the possible interaction within matrices and demonstrated the higher thermal stability of synbiotic microgels prepared using a higher concentration of AlCl3. All in all, after exposure to simulated digestion fluid, heat treatment (72 °C, 15 s), and refrigerated storage, more cells in double-crosslinked microgels survived compared to single-crosslinked microgels. In particular, probiotic viability was highest in SPI/NaCMC-Al3+8 microgels. These results indicate that the SPI/NaCMC-Al3+8 microgels developed in this study can effectively protect L. acidophilus against the external environment.

Abstract
Fabrication of anti-wetting coatings with anti-biofouling and anti-biofilm properties has become a hot spot of attention in recent years. However, the anti-biofilm mechanism of anti-bacterial adhesion coatings with different wet resistance properties has not been explored in detail. In this work, SiOx micro-nano particles were prepared by the Stöber method and were in situ modified. The SiOx/waterborne polyurethane (WPU) coatings were prepared by the drop coating method, and the coatings with different hydrophobic and oleophobic properties were constructed by modifying the process conditions using SiOx micro-nano particles as the roughness construction factor. Taking the dominant spoilage bacteria of aquatic products, Shewanella putrefaciens as the object, the anti-bacterial adhesion properties and anti-biofilm mechanism of the SiOx/WPU coatings were investigated. The results show that, with the unmodified SiOx particles increasing from 1.2% (w/V) to 4.0% (w/V), the hydrophobicity and thermal stability of the SiOx/WPU coatings are significantly enhanced, but the oil repellency becomes worse due to the mesoporous structure. After SiOx micro-nano particles are modified with 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorooctyl trichlorosilane (PFOTS), the surface energy of the SiOx/WPU coatings is decreased, the liquid repellency is improved, and the surfaces are rough with the appearance of fluorocarbon compounds, but the thermal stabilities are slightly reduced. Among them, after the secondary modification of SiOx micro-nano particles, the SiOx/WPU coatings showed excellent oil repellency, lower surface energies and higher fluorocarbon content on the surface. Particularly, SiOx/WPU coatings exhibited super-amphiphobicity after adjusting the amount of concentrated ammonia added during the secondary modification process. Meanwhile, we found that for the hydrophobic SiOx/WPU coatings, the stronger the oleophobic property, the greater the anti-bacterial adhesion ability is, while the anti-bacterial adhesion ability of hydrophobic and selectively oleophobic or superhydrophobic and oleophobic SiOx/WPU coatings is poor than that of amphiphilic SiOx/WPU coatings. However, because the super-amphiphobic SiOx/WPU coatings can be in the Cassie state with the bacterial solution for a long time, it can "capture" enough air to inhibit the irreversible adhesion of the bacteria. More importantly, the coatings can also inhibit the metabolic activity, secretion of extracellular polysaccharides, and activities of ATPase and AKP of the adherent bacteria, so it has a better anti-biofilm property. The anti-biofilm coatings can be used as food packaging materials or coated on the inner surface of packaging boxes to prevent the microbial infection.

Abstract
The restrictions imposed on the use of formaldehyde in wood panel adhesives have been the driving force behind the development of formaldehyde-free resins for the manufacture of wood products. Considering as a boundary condition the idea that the use of fossil-based raw materials should be replaced by biological options, there is growing interest in the environmental assessment of different alternatives for soy-based adhesives, as possible options to replace commonly used synthetic resins. This report includes the environmental profiles of soy-based adhesives taking into account the life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology. In addition, in order to increase their potential to replace synthetic resins, a sensitivity analysis of the main contributors to environmental damage was performed, thus giving an open guide for further research and improvement. This study aims to provide innovative alternatives and new trends in the field of environmentally friendly bio-adhesives for the wood panel industry.

Abstract
An amino-terminated hyperbranched polymer (A-HP) was employed to modify leather buffing dust (BD) to prepare functional filler, hyperbranched buffing dust (HBD). The structure and morphology of BD and HBD were characterized by XPS, DSC and SEM. Furthermore, HBD was added into the typical solvent type polyurethane (PU) to prepare a wetting PU film which was used as the coating for synthetic leather. By changing the dosage of HBD, the filler species, the properties of the porous structure and mechanical strength of the PU film were analyzed by SEM, DMA and so on. The experimental results indicated that with the increase of the dosage of HBD, the porous structure of the PU film increase. The content of the N element for BD increases from 4.27% to 7.29%. After modification and ball milling, the fineness of most fibers was in the range of 6.7–6.9 μm. The fiber dispersion state of HBD was more uniform. The Tg of the PU film with HBD is −8.67 °C, while for lignin is −8.41 °C, indicating that the wetting PU film filled with HBD has better flexibility at low temperature. In this research, amino functional buffing dust (HBD) was used as an excellent biomass functional filler to improve the hygienic properties of synthetic leather, and provide a novel way for the treatment and disposal of leather buffing waste.![]()

Abstract
A biodegradable soy protein isolate-based waterborne polyurethane composite sponge (SWPU) was prepared from soy protein isolate (SPI) and polyurethane prepolymer (PUP) by a process involving chemical reaction and freeze-drying. Effects of SPI content (0, 10%, 30%, 50%, 70%) on the micro-structure and physical properties of the composite sponges were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The results showed that the reaction between -NCO of PUP and -NH2 of SPI formed porous SPI-based WPU composite sponges. The results of the water absorption ratio measurement, solvent resistance measurement and compressive testing showed that water absorption, hydrophilicity, and tensile strength in the dry state of the composite sponges increased with the increase of SPI content. Especially, the tensile strength ranged from 0.3 MPa to 5.5 MPa with the increase in SPI content. The cytocompatibility and biodegradability of the composite sponges were evaluated by in vitro cell culture and in vivo implantation experiments. The results indicated that a certain SPI content in the sponges could promote the adhesion, growth, and proliferation of cells, enhance the cytocompatibility and accelerate the degradation speed of composite sponges. During the in vivo implanting period within 9 months, SWPU-50 sponge containing 50% of SPI brought out the lowest activated inflammatory reaction, most newly-regenerated blood capillaries, and best histocompatibility. All results indicated that SWPU-50 composite sponges had greatest potential for tissue engineering.

Abstract
AbstractIn this study, we reported a facile and economical strategy for producing a functional protein-based composite film that was based on soybean protein isolate (SPI), eggshell membrane (ESM) and eugenol (Eu). The composite films were also characterized by mechanical, water vapor permeability (WVP), UV barrier, water resistance, hydrophobicity, antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. The results suggested the appropriate content of ESM could significantly enhance the mechanical, barrier, water resistance and hydrophobicity performances of the film. The addition of Eu into the SPI/ESM film could improve not only these properties, but also antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. The intermolecular interaction between SPI, ESM and Eu was mainly hydrogen bond confirmed by the Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) indicated a good compatibility existed between SPI and ESM, and the Eu could be well emulsified and dispersed into the SPI/ESM film matrices network. Such edible films carried potentially developed in active packaging applications.

Abstract
Antarctic krill protein (AKP) was extracted from Antarctic krill by an alkali dissolution-isoelectric precipitation method and then it was phosphorylated with sodium tripolyphosphate. The phosphorylated Antarctic krill protein (P-AKP) powder was obtained by spray-drying (SD), freeze-drying (FD), and hot-air drying (AD), and the effects of these drying methods on the structures and functional properties of proteins were investigated. The P-AKP powder dried by SD had the best sensory performance, and its particle size was much smaller than that of FD and AD. Scanning electron microscope displayed a uniform particle size of SD powder and the particles were uniformly dispersed. X-ray diffraction analysis showed a higher crystallinity of SD sample than AD and FD. Differential scanning calorimeter analysis revealed that SD sample had the best thermal stability and less protein denaturation (ΔH = 210.80 J/g), followed by FD (ΔH = 80.48 J/g) and AD (ΔH = 73.94 J/g; P < 0.05). Fourier transform infrared showed that SD sample contained more protein secondary structure. Compared with SD, the phosphorylated group-related chemical bonds in FD and AD samples were partially destroyed. SD sample had the highest protein solubility, oil absorption capacity, emulsifying, and foaming activities than FD and AD (P < 0.05). Although FD had the highest water absorption capacity, sample prepared with AD had the worst functional performance. Therefore, different drying methods used for preparation of the P-AKP can affect its physicochemical and associated functional properties, and SD could be an appropriate drying method for the industrial mass production of P-AKP powders with better functionalities. PRACTICAL APPLICATION: The optimal drying method for preparing the phosphorylated Antarctic krill protein (P-AKP) powder was proved to be spray-drying (SD), because the physicochemical and functional properties were better for P-AKP dried by SD than the other drying methods. Hence, SD was recommended for the industrial mass production of P-AKP powders with better functionalities. This research can provide theoretical guidance for the further processing and utilization of P-AKP, and offer technical reference for food processing and preservation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Repair and regeneration of peripheral nerve defect by engineered conduits have greatly advanced in the past decades while still facing great challenges. APPROACH In this work, we fabricated a new highly oriented poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA)/soy protein isolate (SPI) nanofibrous conduit (HO-PSNC) for nerve regeneration. MAIN RESULTS Firstly, we observed that SPI could efficiently modify PLLA for the electrospinning of PLLA/SPI nanofibers with enhanced physical and biological properties. Incorporation of SPI decreased the fiber diameter and ductility of PLLA/SPI nanofibrous films (PSNFs), improved the tensile strength and surface wettability of PSNFs and increased the in vivo degradability of the PSNFs. When the hybrid ratio of SPI was 20 and 40%, PSNFs could efficiently promote neural cell extension and differentiation in vitro. Based on these data, 20% SPI (PSNF-20) was chosen for further investigation. Next, PSNF-20 with different fiber orientations (random/low orientation, medium, and high orientation, respectively) were developed and used for evaluating neural cell behaviors on the materials. Results revealed that the PSNF-20 with highly oriented nanofibers (HO-PSNF-20) or mediumly oriented nanofibers (MO-PSNF-20) showed a better performance in directing cell extension and enhancing neurite outgrowth. Finally, the highly oriented nanofibers conduits (HO-PSNC-20) were used to bridge sciatic nerve defect in rats with highly oriented PLLA and autografts as controls. HO-PSNC-20 exhibited a significant promotion in nerve regeneration and functional reconstruction comparing to highly oriented PLLA as proven by the evaluations of walking track, electrophysiology, toluidine blue nerve staining, transmission electron microscopy, neural factors staining and qPCR, and gastrocnemius histology. SIGNIFICANCE In conclusion, nerve conduit fabricated from aligned electrospinning of SPI-modified PLLA nanofibers is promising for peripheral nerve regeneration.

In this paper, thermogravimetric (TG) analysis was carried out to make clear the curing properties of soy flour-based adhesives (SFAs) enhanced by waterborne polyurethane (WPU) with different addition levels. The kinetic parameters were evaluated by a thermal dynamics method, including activation energy and preexponential factor. In addition, the structure characteristics of both soy flour and modified soy flour-based adhesives were tested by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The results revealed that the FTIR spectra of pristine soy flour-based adhesives were different from those of soy flour after alkali treatment and waterborne polyurethane modification. Furthermore, there were four main degradation phases in the derivative thermogravimetric (DTG) curves of modified soy-based adhesives while there were two phases of a defatted soy flour sample. The kinetics analysis demonstrated that the curing process could be described as a consecutive first-order curing process. Moreover, with the addition level of WPU growing, the apparent activation energy of each phase of the curing process was increasing compared with that in pristine soy-based adhesives.

Abstract
In the present study sunflower protein isolates were subjected to heat treatment (80 °C for 5 min, 15 min and 25 min) at three pH values (3.5, 4.5 and 5.5). The strength of gel prepared from treated protein isolates was lower than the gels from native protein isolates and gel strength increased with increase in temperature treatment. Higher denaturation temperatures were observed in treated protein isolates than native protein isolates and increased with increase in thermal treatment time. Treated protein isolates showed more resistance against thermal degradation than native protein isolates as was evident from thermal gravimetric analysis. Secondary and tertiary structure determined by circular dichroism and intrinsic fluorescence respectively were significantly altered after thermal treatment. Lower crystal size along with reduced crystallinity was observed in treated protein isolates than native protein isolates and was further reduced with increase in heating time as was determined by X-ray diffraction.

Abstract
The development of micro- and nanofibril cellulose to improve strength while reducing the side effects of toughness and water resistance can benefit integrated polymer performance. Inspired by the interior microstructure of mussel byssus, this paper proposed an efficient means of generating an active block microfibrillated cellulose/polyurethane elastomer using an epoxy monomer as a pre-crosslinked agent with the addition of a poly(dopamine) layer. The block elastomer served as a multifunctional crosslinker, constructing a covalent network and interfacial hydrogen bonding that interlinked the elastomer with a soy protein isolate (SPI) matrix. Compared with the pristine SPI film, the introduction of the block elastomer induced remarkable improvements in tensile strength and toughness (146.7 and 102.1%, respectively). Additionally, the block elastomer was employed to further estimate its reinforcing effect in SPI resin modification, which also exhibited favorable water resistance and adhesion performance. This strategy may provide a new approach for constructing superior elastomers to reinforce applicable biomass composites.

Abstract
An active film was prepared by incorporating cortex Phellodendron extract (CPE, an active agent) into a soybean protein isolate (SPI). Different concentrations of CPE (0%, 10%, 12.5%, 15%, 17.5%, 20%, or 22.5%, w/w, based on SPI) were mixed into the films characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetry, tensile tests, and barrier properties. The rheological properties of the solutions were also tested. The effects of the CPE content on the antibacterial and antioxidant activities of the films were examined. The results indicated that new hydrogen bonds formed between molecules in the films, and the crystallinity of the films decreased. The incorporation of CPE had no significant influence on the thermal stability of the films. Films containing 15% CPE had the maximum tensile strength of 6.00 MPa. The barrier properties against water vapor, oxygen, and light enhanced with the incorporation of CPE. The antioxidant activity of the SPI film was also improved. The films were effective against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus, Gram-positive bacteria). These results suggest that the SPI/CPE film can potentially extend the shelf lives of foods.

Abstract
In this study, a new method was developed to produce biodegradable material using soy protein isolate (SPI) as matrix. The blend films were successfully prepared by casting the aqueous dispersions of SPI and polyamic acid salt (PAS) solution. The effects of blending and PAS content on the structure of the resultant films were investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analyses, scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Furthermore, film thickness, water vapor permeability (WVP), water barrier and mechanical properties were measured. The result showed that there exists strong intermolecular interactions between SPI and PAS, which played an important role in forming a homogeneous structure of the blend films. Moreover, the incorporation of PAS enhanced the water barrier and mechanical properties of the films. This is a simple way to prepare biodegradable films compared with other methods and the blend films have the potentiality to be used as food packaging and biomedical materials instead of synthetic polymer.

Abstract
To elucidate biopolymer interactions between carboxymethyl konjac glucomannan (CMKGM) and soy protein isolate (SPI) in different ratios on physicochemical properties of the blended films, biodegradable CMKGM/SPI films were prepared and characterized. The results showed that CMKGM and SPI are highly compatible in blended film formation, and that Maillard reactions and hydrogen bonds interactions between CMKGM and SPI occurred. The water adsorption of the CMKGM/SPI films progressively decreased with increasing CMKGM level, the surface wettability of the blended films was improved with increasing CMKGM content; the CMKGM/SPI blend films had enhanced tensile strength (TS) and elongation at break (EAB) compared to pure CMKGM and SPI films; the oxygen permeability of blend films was decreased; the roughness was decreased with increasing CMKGM content. Moreover, the CMKGM/SPI film was biocompatible and biodegradable.
