Abstract
Oliveria decumbens is a folkloric medicinal plant belonging to the Apiaceae family, traditionally utilized to treat various diseases like gastrointestinal disorders, fever, and wounds. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the plant's phytochemical composition and biological properties, with potential implications for various industries and avenues of further research. The data presented here has been compiled through searches utilizing the keyword "Oliveria" across scientific databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and SciFinder. Carvacrol and thymol have been identified as the primary volatile constituents, though the complete profile of the plant extract remains to be fully elucidated. Notably, Oliveria decumbens essential oil exhibits significant antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, and anticancer properties. Additionally, the plant extract demonstrates promising antiprotozoal, antiviral, hepatoprotective, and immunostimulant effects, although these findings are primarily derived from preliminary studies. While in vitro and in vivo investigations have validated some traditional uses of O. decumbens, further pre-clinical testing is warranted to ascertain both efficacy and safety profiles. Moreover, the identification of specific components within the plant extract is crucial for a more comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms of action underlying its therapeutic properties within the realm of phytomedicine.

Abstract
Volatile active ingredients in biopolymer nanofibers are prone to burst and uncontrolled release. In this study, we used electrospinning and crosslinking to design a new sustained-release active packaging containing zein and eugenol (EU). Vapor-phase glutaraldehyde (GTA) was used as the crosslinker. Characterization of the crosslinked zein nanofibers was conducted via scanning electron microscopy (SEM), mechanical properties, water resistance, and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. It was observed that crosslinked zein nanofibers did not lose their fiber shape, but the diameter of the fibers increased. By increasing the crosslink time, the mechanical properties and water resistance of the crosslinked zein nanofibers were greatly improved. The FT-IR results demonstrated the formation of chemical bonds between free amino groups in zein molecules and aldehyde groups in GTA molecules. EU was added to the zein nanofibers, and the corresponding release behavior in PBS was investigated using the dialysis membrane method. With an increase in crosslink time, the release rate of EU from crosslinked zein nanofibers decreased. This study demonstrates the potential of crosslinking by GTA vapors on the controlled release of the zein encapsulation structure containing EU. Such sustainable-release nanofibers have promising potential for the design of fortified foods or as active and smart food packaging.

Abstract
Electrospun fibers (EFs) have emerged as promising one-dimensional materials for a myriad of research/commercial applications due to their outstanding structural and physicochemical features. Polymers of either synthetic or natural precursors are applied to design EFs as carriers for bioactive compounds. For engineering food systems, it is crucial to exploit polymers characterized by non-toxicity, non-immunogenicity, biocompatibility, slow/controllable biodegradability, and structural integrity. The unique attributes of protein-based biomaterials endow a wide diversity of desirable features to EFs for meeting the requirements of advanced food/biomedical applications. In this review paper, after an overview on electrospinning, different protein materials (plant- and animal-based) as biodegradable/biocompatible building blocks for designing EFs will be highlighted. The potential application of protein-based EFs in loading bioactive compounds with the intention to inspire interests in both academia and industry will be summarized. This review concludes with a discussion of prevailing challenges in using protein EFs for the bioactive vehicle development.

Abstract
The aim of this research was to compare the effects of various solvents on producing kafirin/polyethylene oxide (PEO) bio-nanocomposites by the technique of electrospinning. Different concentrations of kafirin (15, 20, 25, 30 and 40% w/v) and PEO (2, 4 and 6% w/v) were electrospun. For the dissolution and electrospinning of these two biopolymers, different solvents were used comparatively, i.e. distilled water, ethanol (70%), acetic acid (40%), 2-Butanol and glacial acetic acid. An evaluation of flow behavior showed that kafirin and PEO had Newtonian and pseudoplastic behaviors, respectively. A mixture of these two polymers demonstrated quasi-Newtonian and shear-independent behaviors in a low shear rate range, which positively affected the electrospinning process. SEM images showed that the best concentrations of kafirin and PEO were 25 and 2%, respectively, for producing nanofibers with uniform structures. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) indicated the presence of kafirin and PEO in the bio-nanocomposite after electrospinning. The FTIR proved that these two polymers had no chemical interactions with each other. Overall, the results showed that selecting an appropriate solvent and a suitable auxiliary polymer could have significant roles in producing biodegradable kafirin nanofibers. Graphical abstract

Abstract
Proteins are excellent polymeric materials for encapsulating essential oils (EOs) by electrospinning and electrospraying to protect these compounds and form nanomaterials with active properties. Proteins can encapsulate bioactive molecules by several mechanisms, including surface activity, absorption and stabilization mechanisms, amphiphilic nature, film-forming capacity, foaming, emulsification, and gelation, due to interactions among their functional groups. However, proteins have some limitations in encapsulating EOs by the electrohydrodynamic process. Their properties can be improved by using auxiliary polymers, increasing their charges by adding ionic salts or polyelectrolytes, denaturing their structure by heat, and exposure to specific pH conditions and ionic strength. This review addresses the main proteins used in electrospinning/electrospraying techniques, production methods, their interactions with EOs, bioactive properties, and applications in food matrices. Multivariate analysis associated with bibliometrics of metadata extracted from studies in Web of Science using the keywords electrospinning and essential oil (EO) were used as the search strategy.

Abstract
Prolamins are a group of storage proteins (zeins, kafirins, hordeins, secalins, gliadins, glutenins, and avenins) found in the endosperm of cereal grains and characterized by high glutamine and proline content. With the high proportion of nonpolar amino acids (40-80%) and peculiar solubility (alcohol (60-90%), acetic acid, and alkaline solutions), prolamins exhibit tunable self-assembly behaviors. In recent years, research practices of utilizing prolamins as green building materials of functional delivery vehicles to improve the health benefits of bioactive compounds have surged due to their attractive advantages (e.g. sustainability, biocompatibility, fabrication potential, and cost-competitiveness). This article covers the recent advances in self-assembly behaviors leading to the fabrication of nanoparticles, fibers, and films in the bulk water phase, at the air-liquid interface, and under the electrostatic field. Different fabrication methods, including antisolvent precipitation, evaporation induced self-assembly, thermal treatment, pH-modulation, electrospinning, and solvent casting for assembling nanoarchitectures as functional delivery vehicles are highlighted. Emerging industrial applications by mapping patents, including encapsulation and delivery of bioactive compounds and probiotics, active packaging, Pickering emulsions, and as functional additives to develop safer, healthier, and sustainable food products are discussed. A future perspective concerning the fabrication of prolamins as advanced materials to promote their commercial food applications is proposed.

Abstract
Fungal infections pose a serious threat to humankind due to the toxicity of conventional antifungal therapy and continuous emerging incidence of multidrug resistance. Essential oils fascinated researchers because of their broad antimicrobial activity and minimal cytotoxicity. However, hydrophobic, volatile and low water solubility of essential oils hinder their applications in pharmaceutical industries. Therefore, in this study we have loaded eucalyptol/ β-cyclodextrin inclusion complex to gellan/polyvinyl alcohol nanofibers (EPNF) to eradicate Candida albicans and Candida glabrata biofilms. The electrospun nanofibers characterized by various physicochemical techniques and it was observed that EPNF possess highly hydrophilic surface property that facilitate rapid drug release. EPNF inhibited approximately 70% biofilm of C. albicans and C. glabrata. Time kill results depicted that eucalyptol (EPTL) encapsulation in the nanofibers prolonged its antifungal activity than the pure EPTL. Electron microscopy studies revealed that EPNF disrupted the cell surface of Candida. Collectively the current study suggested nanofiber encapsulation enhanced antibiofilm activity of eucalyptol and these nanoscale systems can serve as an alternative therapeutic strategy to treat fungal infections. Further, the developed nanofibrous materials can be applied as cost effective coating agent for biomedical implants.
