Abstract
This study presents the design, synthesis, and comprehensive characterization of a novel series of D-π-A type malononitrile-derived chromophores, BTC-1-BTC-4. Combining various spectroscopic techniques, nonlinear Z-scan measurements, and quantum chemical calculations, we revealed the intricate relationship between nonlinear optical properties and the interplay of molecular structure, intramolecular charge transfer (ICT), and dipole moments (μ). Our experimental and computational findings corroborate that the polarization degree in the ground state, the charge separation in the excited state and twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) collectively dictate the nonlinear optical properties of the compounds. Notably, BTC-1 exhibits an exceptional nonlinear absorption coefficient β value (2×10-8 m W-1), attributed to its optimized charge transfer efficiency and pronounced degree of charge separation. Our findings provide actionable insights for the rational design of high-performance organic Nonlinear optics (NLO) materials with potential applications in advanced photonic devices.

Abstract
The thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP) riboswitch has emerged as the new target for designing new ligands for antibiotic purpose. Binding of the natural ligand TPP to the TPP riboswitch causes downregulation of the genes responsible for its biosynthesis. We have reported the role of π-stacking energy contributions to ligand binding with a TPP riboswitch. In conjunction with the docking study, the higher-level quantum chemical calculations performed with the wB97XD and Def2TZVPP basis set in the aqueous phase revealed that the optimum ring size is crucial to attain the effective binding efficiency of ligands with a TPP riboswitch. The π-stacking energy contributions observed for the ligands studied are largely similar; however, the cases studied with higher π-stacking energies with larger rings have a weaker ability to displace the radiolabeled thiamine from the riboswitch. The EDA and NCI analyses suggest the role of larger dispersive interactions in stabilizing the π-stacking rings. The contribution from hydrogen-bonding interactions of the hydrogen-bond donor groups on the A ring augments the binding affinity of the ligand. This study sheds light on various factors that contribute to the design of new ligands for efficient binding with a TPP riboswitch and inhibition of gene expression.

Abstract
The ground state (GS) of Chichibabin's polycyclic hydrocarbons (CPHs) can be singlet [open- or closed-shell (OSS or CS)] or triplet (T), depending on the elongation of the π-system and the exocyclic substituents. CPHs with either a small singlet-triplet energy gap (ΔE ST) or even a triplet GS have potential applications in optoelectronics. To analyze the effect of the size and exocyclic substituents on the nature of the GS of CPHs, we have selected a number of them with different substituents in the exocyclic carbon atoms and different ring chain lengths. The OPBE/cc-pVTZ level of theory was used for the optimization of the systems. The aromaticity of the resulting electronic structures was evaluated with HOMA, NICS, FLU, PDI, Iring, and MCI aromaticity indices. Our results show that the shortest π-systems (one or two rings) have a singlet GS. However, systems with three to five rings favor OSS GSs. Electron-withdrawing groups (EWGs) and aromatic substituents in the exocyclic carbons tend to stabilize the OSS and T states, whereas electron-donating groups slightly destabilize them. For CS, OSS, and T states, aromaticity measures indicate a gain of aromaticity of the 6-membered rings of the CPHs with the increase in their size and when CPHs incorporate EWGs or aromatic substituents. In general, the CPHs analyzed present small singlet-triplet energy gaps, and in particular, the ones containing EWGs or aromatic substituents present the smallest singlet-triplet energy gaps.

Abstract
Can relativistic effects modify the NICS and the B(ind) values? In this manuscript we evaluate the relativistic corrections incorporated via the zeroth-order regular approximation to the calculations of nucleus-independent chemical shifts and the induced magnetic field (B(ind)) in the E12(2-) spherenes (E = Ge, Sn, Pb). We found that both electron delocalization descriptors are strongly affected by the relativistic corrections. For instance, for plumbaspherene, the difference in values from the nonrelativistic to the relativity-included calculation is almost 40 ppm! Our results show that the changes observed in the NICS and B(ind) values in the title cages are a consequence of the treatment of the relativistic effects. If these effects are included as scalar or spin-orbit calculations, then we can establish the next trend: Ge12(2-) is a nonaromatic species, Sn12(2-) is a low aromatic species, and Pb12(2-) is strongly aromatic, according to calculated NICS and B(ind) values. Thus, any prediction of electron delocalization in molecules containing heavy elements without considering an adequate treatment for relativistic effects may lead to an erroneous chemical interpretation.

Abstract
Aromaticity cannot be measured directly by any physical or chemical experiment because it is not a well-defined magnitude. Its quantification is done indirectly from the measure of different properties that are usually found in aromatic compounds such as bond length equalisation, energetic stabilisation, and particular magnetic behaviour associated with induced ring currents. These properties have been used to set up the myriad of structural-, energetic-, and magnetic-based indices of aromaticity known to date. The cyclic delocalisation of mobile electrons in two or three dimensions is probably one of the key aspects that characterise aromatic compounds. However, it has not been until the last decade that electron delocalisation measures have been widely employed to quantify aromaticity. Some of these new indicators of aromaticity such as the PDI, FLU, ING, and INB were defined in our group. In this paper, we review the different existing descriptors of aromaticity that are based on electron delocalisation properties, we compare their performance with indices based on other properties, and we summarise a number of applications of electronic-based indices for the analysis of aromaticity in interesting chemical problems.

Abstract
A salicylideneaniline (SA) derivative, (6Z)-6-({[2-(hydroxymethyl)phenyl]amino}methylidene)-3,5-dimethoxycyclohexa-2,4-dien-1-one monohydrate, has an increased aromaticity within its hydrogen-bridged chelate ring owing to its NH character. In the reported crystal structure, nonconventional π-stacking interactions, which are referred to as hybrid π-stacking interactions, are observed between a quasiaromatic chelate ring, formed as a result of the resonance-assisted intramolecular hydrogen bond and ordinary aromatic rings. Besides, π-stacking interactions are also seen between two hydrogen-bridged quasiaromatic chelate rings, which are referred to as pure π-stacking interactions. A CSD search has revealed that both kinds of interactions are frequently observed in molecular crystals of SA derivatives in fully or partially NH tautomeric form, and aromaticity levels of certain fragments of SA derivatives have dramatic effects on their stacking arrangements. These interactions are distinguished from the usual π...π interactions by their formation character, i.e. both σ- and π-deficient and σ-deficient character of pure interactions is more pronounced than that of the hybrid ones.

Abstract
Geometry optimization of heptafulvene-halogen complexes (halogens: F, Cl, Br, I, and At) carried out at the B3LYP/6-311+G(d,p) level of theory allowed us to estimate the geometry-based aromaticity index HOMA, the magnetism-based indices NICS, NICS(1), and NICS(1)(ZZ), as well as the energy of complex formation. Application of the NBO method allowed us to estimate the pEDA characteristics of the π-electron distribution in complexes (i.e., the electron excess/deficiency of the π-electron system in the ring). All of the characteristics of the complexes were found to be mutually interrelated, exhibiting good or at least acceptable correlation coefficients. It was also noted that halogen atoms with greater radii yielded weaker complexes and lower aromaticities, as shown by the HOMA, NICS, and pEDA indices. The energy of complex formation was observed to be linearly correlated with the degree of aromatization of the heptafulvene ring, as expressed by these indices.

Abstract
A comprehensive MP2/6-311 + G(d,p) and B3LYP/6-311 + G(d,p) study of the aromatic character of phospholes, P(n)(CH)(4-n )PH with n = 0-4 was conducted. For this purpose, the structures for these compounds were optimized at both theoretical levels and different magnetic properties (magnetic susceptibility anisotropy, χ(anis), and the nucleus-independent chemical shifts, NICS) were evaluated. For comparison, these magnetic properties were also calculated in the optimized structures with planarity constraints. We have also applied the ACID (anisotropy of the current-induced density) method in this analysis. The main conclusions are the aromatic character of these compounds, the relationship between aromaticity and planarity and the importance of other factors in this aromaticity.

Abstract
Many metallabenzene complexes appear to exhibit an enhanced thermodynamic stability which has been attributed to the concept of aromaticity. Analysis of the ring currents induced by a magnetic field, either by direct visualization or by considering nuclear or nucleus-independent chemical shielding values (NMR or NICS), have become useful theoretical tools to characterize the aromaticity of many molecules involving the main group elements. We have analyzed 21 metallabenzenes using variations of these techniques, which take account of the large core and metal orbital contributions which often lead to transition-metal-containing systems exhibiting anomalous shielding values. Analysis of individual orbital contributions to both the ring currents and chemical shielding values based upon the ipsocentric and CSGT (continuous set of gauge transformations) methods has shown that complexes such as the 18 electron Ir or Rh(C 5H 5)(PH 3) 2Cl 2 molecules should be classed as aromatic, whereas the 16 electron complexes such as Os or Ru(C 5H 5)(PH 3) 2Cl 2 should not, despite having the same occupancy of pi-MOs. The differences can be directly attributed to the HOMO/LUMO b 2 in-plane (d xy ) molecular orbital, which, when unoccupied, is available to disrupt the delocalized currents typical of aromatic systems. A range of Pd and Pt metallabenzenes with cyclopentadienyl and phosphine ligands is also discussed as having aromatic and nonaromatic character, respectively.

Abstract
The aromaticity and local-aromaticity of a large set of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) is studied using multicenter delocalization indices from generalized population analysis and the popular nucleus independent chemical shift (NICS) index. A method for the fast computation of the NICS values is introduced, using the so-called pseudo-pi-method. A detailed examination is made of the multidimensional nature of aromaticity. The lack of a good correlation between the NICS and the multicenter delocalization indices is reported and the grounds discussed. It is shown through a thorough statistical analysis that the NICS values arise not only from local aromaticity of the benzenoid rings, but also from other circuits. It is shown that the NICS indices do not reveal the individual aromatic nature of a specific ring, contrary to the delocalization indices.

Abstract
The effect of three in-plane (bond length alternation, bond length elongation, and clamping) and three out-of-plane deformations (boatlike, chairlike, and pyramidalization) on the aromaticity of the benzene molecule has been analyzed employing seven widely used indicators of aromaticity. It is shown that only the aromatic fluctuation index (FLU) is able to indicate the expected loss of aromaticity because of distortion from the equilibrium geometry in all deformations analyzed. As FLU has been shown previously to fail in other particular situations, we conclude that there is not yet a single indicator of aromaticity that works properly for all cases. Therefore, to reach safer conclusions, aromaticity analyses should be carried out employing a set of aromaticity descriptors on the basis of different physical manifestations of aromaticity.

Abstract
A representation of the current density induced in the [2.2]paracyclophane molecule by a homogeneous magnetic field parallel to the line joining the centers of the phenylene rings is given in compact form by a stagnation graph that conveys essential information. Analogous graphs were obtained for two perpendicular directions. Plots of streamlines are also reported to complete a ring current model that has been proved useful to understand the magnetropicity of the system. Stagnation graphs, maps of streamlines and moduli of the current density, and plots of Biot-Savart magnetic shielding density provide a basic tool kit for rationalizing magnetic response of complex systems.
