Abstract
We present a methodology for the synthesis of inorganic-organic Janus-type molecules based on mono-T8 and difunctionalized double-decker silsesquioxanes (DDSQs) via hydrosilylation reactions, achieving exceptionally high yields and selectivities. The synthesized compounds were extensively characterized using various spectroscopic techniques, and their sizes and spatial arrangements were predicted through molecular modelling and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Quantum chemical calculations were employed to examine the interactions among four molecules of the synthesized compounds. These computational results allowed us to determine the propensity for molecular aggregation, identify the functional groups involved in these interactions, and understand the changes in interatomic distances during aggregation. Understanding the aggregation behaviour of silsesquioxane molecules is crucial for tailoring their properties for specific applications, such as nanocomposites, surface coatings, drug delivery systems, and catalysts. Through a combination of experimental and computational approaches, this study provides valuable insights into the design and optimization of silsesquioxane-based Janus-type molecules for enhanced performance across various fields.

Abstract
Herein, we report synthetic strategies for the development of a bifunctional Janus T4 tetrapod (Janus ring), in which the orthogonal silsesquioxane and organic faces are independently functionalized. An all-cis T4 tetrasilanolate was functionalized to introduce thiol moieties on the silsesquioxane face and naphthyl groups on the organic face to introduce luminescent and self-organization properties. The stepwise synthesis conditions required to prepare such perfectly defined oligomers via a suite of well-defined intermediates and to avoid polymerization or reactions over all eight positions of the tetrapod are explored via 29Si, 13C and 1H NMR, FTIR and TOF-ESI mass spectroscopy. To the best of our knowledge, this is one of the few reports of Janus T4 tetrapods, with different functional groups located on both faces of the molecule, thus expanding the potential range of applications for these versatile precursors.

Abstract
Cyclic silanol derivatives (CSDs), possessing siloxane rings consisting of T-unit silicon and oxygen atoms, are considered efficient precursors for the preparation of versatile well-defined building blocks of hybrid materials such as cyclic, cage- or ladder-type SQs. This review provides an outline of the main synthetic routes to numerous stereoregular CSDs with different sizes of siloxane rings since the first example of CSDs reported by Brown et al. in 1965. The typical reaction conditions and chemical shifts of 29Si NMR of all mentioned CSDs in this review are summarized in tables and schemes to recapitulate the state of the art. The synthesis of all-cis-cyclotetrasiloxanes (T4), the most investigated CSDs, and their functionalization by different organic reactions to access various all-cis-T4 with functional groups are methodically presented. Moreover, the potential of CSDs in multiple application fields is discussed to show the possible research directions of this family of compounds in the future.

Abstract
A vinyl-functionalized all-cis-tetrasiloxycyclotetrasiloxane [ViSi(OSiMe2H)O]4 (Vi = vinyl group) Janus precursor was prepared from potassium cyclotetrasiloxane silanolate. The Janus precursor was selectively modified at its dimethylhydrosilyl groups [-SiMe2H] via the Piers-Rubinsztajn reaction to obtain a family of new tetravinyl-substituted Janus rings [ViSi(OR')O]4 containing various functional groups in moderate yields. Remarkably, the tetravinyl groups on the structure remained intact after modification by the Piers-Rubinsztajn reaction. Since these synthesized compounds possess multiple functional groups (up to eight per molecule), they are potential precursors for advanced hybrid organic-inorganic functional materials.

Abstract
All-cis-tetrasiloxycyclotetrasiloxanes (Janus ring siloxanes) were facilely prepared from all-cis-cyclotetrasiloxanetetraol or sodium cyclotetrasiloxane silanolates. Moreover, we demonstrated the synthesis of extended Janus rings, [RSi(OR')O]4, containing various functional groups, via the Piers-Rubinsztajn reaction using a Janus ring siloxane as a precursor. Remarkably, we discovered the formation of an unexpected all-cis tricyclic laddersiloxane as a by-product. These synthesized compounds can be potential monomers of well-defined cage silsesquioxanes, Janus-type nanomaterials, and porous materials.

Abstract
The controlled synthesis of oligosiloxanes with well-defined structures is important for the bottom-up design of siloxane-based nanomaterials. This work reports the synthesis of various polycyclic and cage siloxanes by the hydrolysis and intramolecular condensation of monocyclic tetra- and hexasiloxanes functionalized with various alkoxysilyl groups. An investigation of monoalkoxysilylated cyclosiloxanes revealed that intramolecular condensation occurred preferentially between adjacent alkoxysilyl groups to form new tetrasiloxane rings. The study of dialkoxy- and trialkoxysilylated cyclotetrasiloxanes revealed multistep intramolecular condensation reactions to form cubic octasiloxanes in relatively high yields. Unlike conventional methods starting from organosilane monomers, intramolecular condensation enables the introduction of different organic substituents in controlled arrangements. So-called Janus cubes have been successfully obtained, that is, Ph4 R4 Si8 O12 , in which R=Me, OSiMe3 , and OSiMe2 Vi (Vi=vinyl). These findings will enable the creation of siloxane-based materials with diverse functions.

Abstract
A perfect "Janus-cube" octasilsesquioxane, a nanometer-scale Janus particle with two different types of substituents, was synthesized through the cross-coupling of a "half-cube" cyclic sodium siloxanolate with another half-cube cyclic fluorosiloxane. The structure was confirmed by X-ray crystallography to be a Janus cube. The overall synthesis is simple and does not require drastic separation methods compared with previous methods. The synthesis of the Janus cube demonstrates a novel siloxane bond-forming reaction involving the coupling a silanol salt and fluorosilane. The reaction is mild, does not result in acid generation, and could be applied to the construction of other novel siloxane compounds.

Abstract
A general procedure for the assembly of hetero-bifunctional cubic silsesquioxanes with diverse functionality and a perfectly controlled distribution of functional groups on the inorganic framework has been developed. The method is based on a two-step sequence of mono- and hepta-functionalization through the ligand-accelerated copper(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition of a readily available octaazido cubic silsesquioxane. The stoichiometry of the reactants and the law of binomial distribution essentially determine the selectivity of the key monofunctionalization reaction when a copper catalyst with strong donor ligands is used. The methodology has been applied to the preparation of a set of bifunctional nano-building-blocks with orthogonal reactivity for the controlled assembly of precisely defined hybrid nanomaterials and a fluorescent multivalent probe for application in targeted cell-imaging. The inorganic cage provides an improved photostability to the covalently attached dye as well as a convenient framework for the 3D multivalent display of the pendant epitopes. Thus, fluorescent bioprobes based on well-defined cubic silsesquioxanes offer interesting advantages over more conventional fully organic analogues and ill-defined hybrid nanoparticles and promise to become powerful tools for the study of cell biology and for biomedical applications.

Abstract
The design, synthesis, and self-assembly of a series of precisely defined, nonspherical, polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS)-based molecular Janus particles are reported. The synthesis aims to fulfill the "click" philosophy by using thiol-ene chemistry to efficiently install versatile functionalities on one of the POSS cages. In such a way, both the geometrical and chemical symmetries were broken to create the Janus feature. These particles self-organize into hierarchically ordered supramolecular structures in the bulk. For example, the Janus particle with isobutyl groups on one POSS and carboxylic groups on the other self-assembles into a bilayered structure with head-to-head, tail-to-tail arrangements of each particle, which further organize into a three-dimensional orthorhombic lattice. While the ordered structure in the layers was lost upon heating via a first-order transition, the bilayered structure persisted throughout. This study provides a model system of well-defined molecular Janus particles for the general understanding of their self-assembly and hierarchical structure formation in the condensed state.
