Abstract
Radiation pneumonia is a common adverse reaction during radiotherapy in lung cancer patients, which negatively impacts the quality of life and survival of patients. Recent studies have shown that compound Kushen injection (CKI), a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), has great anti-inflammatory and anticancer potential, but the mechanism is still unclear. We used CiteSpace, the R package "bibliometrix," and VOSviewers to perform a bibliometrics analysis of 162 articles included from the Web of Science core collection. A network pharmacology-based approach was used to screen effective compounds, screen and predict target genes, analyze biological functions and pathways, and construct regulatory networks and protein interaction networks. Molecular docking experiments were used to identify the affinity of key compounds and core target. The literature metrology analysis revealed that over 90% of the CKI-related studies were conducted by Chinese scholars and institutions, with a predominant focus on tumors, while research on radiation pneumonia remained limited. Our investigation identified 60 active ingredients of CKI, 292 genes associated with radiation pneumonia, 533 genes linked to lung cancer, and 37 common targets of CKI in the treatment of both radiation pneumonia and lung cancer. These core potential targets were found to be significantly associated with the OS of lung cancer patients, and the key compounds exhibited a good docking affinity with these targets. Additionally, GO and KEGG enrichment analysis highlighted that the bioinformatics annotation of these common genes mainly involved ubiquitin protein ligase binding, cytokine receptor binding, and the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. Our study revealed that the main active components of CKI, primarily quercetin, luteolin, and naringin, might act on major core targets, including AKT1, PTGS2, and PPARG, and further regulated key signaling pathways such as the PI3K/Akt pathway, thereby playing a crucial role in the treatment of radiation pneumonia and lung cancer. Moreover, this study had a certain promotional effect on further clinical application and provided a theoretical basis for subsequent experimental research.

Abstract
PURPOSE We aim to explore the effect of Chinese Patent Medicine (CPM), including Huisheng oral solution (HSOS) on the 4-year survival rate of patients with stage II and III non-small cell lung cancer, and assess the association between blood coagulation indicators and survival outcomes. MATERIALS AND METHODS 313 patients diagnosed with stage II and III NSCLC were collected during 2015-2016. Kaplan-Meier method and Cox proportional hazard model were applied to analyze the factors affecting the 4-year survival rate of patients. RESULTS According to the effect of CPM, the medicine prescribed in this study could be classified into two types. The proportion of patients who received "Fuzheng Quyu" CPM for more than three months was higher than the proportion of patients who received other two types of CPM for more than three months. Medical records of 313 patients with NSCLC were analyzed. 4-year survival rate for patients received CPM more than 6 months and 3 months were higher than those received CPM less than 3 months (P = 0.028 and P = 0.021 respectively. In addition, 4-year survival rate for patients who received HSOS for more than 3 months was higher than those who received HSOS for less than 3 months (P = 0.041). Patients with elevated preoperative fibrinogen (FIB) level and those without surgery had an increased mortality risk (HR = 1.98, P < 0.01, and HR = 2.76, P < 0.01 respectively). CONCLUSION The medium and long-term use of CPM/HSOS was positively associated with higher survival rate in NSCLC patients. Patients with high-level preoperative FIB level and those without surgery might have a poor prognosis in the following years.

Abstract
Background: Cancer rehabilitation represents a series of measures adopted for the recovery of psychological, emotional, social, and financial functioning in the case of cancer patients. The purpose of this study is to identify the main elements of therapeutic management in the field of medical rehabilitation, as well as integrative, complementary medicine and holistic approaches that can be performed on the oncological patient. Methods: This systematic literature review follows the methodology outlined in the "Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis" ("PRISMA") statement, which is an internationally recognized and widely accepted standard. Results: Active rehabilitative therapies offer therapeutic options for improving the functioning and quality of life of oncological patients; these therapies comprehensively address both the physical and psychological aspects of the disease. This review also includes the latest novelties and nanotechnologies applied in oncological rehabilitation, for example, drugs (or supplements) inspired by nature. Conclusions: Physical and rehabilitation medicine, mostly using stimulating therapeutic methods, was recently added to the list of contraindications in the management of oncological patients, both as an approach to the pathological concept itself and as an approach to the main clinical consequences and functional aspects of oncological therapies. Integrative, complementary medicine presents an important therapeutic resource in the case of oncological patients. Advanced studies are needed in the future to further ascertain the role of these therapies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chemotherapy in breast cancer is effective but can generate significant toxicity and lead to tumor resistance. Joint treatment with standardized plant extracts can be an alternative to improve the response and allow an effective activation of the antitumor immune response that favors recovery in the short and long term. The P2Et extract of Caesalpinia spinosa presents antitumor activity in cells and animal models of breast cancer, improves the tumor microenvironment, and induces activation of the specific immune response against the tumor and is synergistic when used together with anthracyclines, which makes it a good candidate for evaluation in patients. METHODS Conducted at a single center, this phase II study is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial aimed at assessing the safety and efficacy of P2Et extract in patients diagnosed with stage II and III breast cancer, who are eligible for neoadjuvant treatment. The study aims to determine the safety profile at the previously established optimal biological dose from phase I trial while investigating various efficacy outcomes. These outcomes include improvements in quality of life, immunomodulation, metabolic profile, microbiome, as well as clinical indicators such as tumor reduction, disease-free survival, and pathological response, assessed at different stages of the treatment regimen. DISCUSSION Treatment with the P2Et extract in breast cancer patients is hypothesized to enhance overall well-being, positively influencing their quality of life, while also triggering an antitumor immune response and enhancing immune infiltration. These combined effects have the potential to contribute to improved long-term survival outcomes for patients receiving the phytomedicine alongside neoadjuvant chemotherapy treatment. Abstract
INTRODUCTION This planned multicenter observational study will evaluate the overall survival of those undergoing integrated Chinese and Western medicine for stage IIIb-IVb non-small cell lung cancer and analyze the factors related to the prognosis. METHOD AND ANALYSIS The prospective cohort will enroll patients with stage IIIb-IVb NSCLC from March 1, 2019, to December 31, 2025, and follow them for 5 years. We plan to collect data on the patients' demographics, treatment, overall survival, and factors related to the prognosis. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION The institutional review board and ethics committee reviewed the study protocol. All patients will provide informed consent before enrollment.Trial registration number: ChiCTR1900021430.

Abstract
Background: Given the limitations of Western medicine (WM) for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and the wide exploration of Chinese herbal injections (CHIs), systematically evaluate the efficacy of Various CHIs Combined with WM for Non-small Cell Lung Cancer. In this study, we performed a network meta-analysis to evaluate the comparative efficacy of 16 CHIs combined with WM regimens for the treatment of NSCLC. Methods: Literature databases were searched from their inception to November 2021, and all randomized control trials (RCTs) involving NSCLC patients treated with a combination of Chinese and WM were retrieved. Outcomes, including disease control rate, survival quality score, incidence of gastrointestinal adverse reactions, incidence of leukopenia, and incidence of thrombocytopenia, were analyzed using RevMan (5.3), Stata17, and R software. Surface under the cumulative ranking curve (SUCRA) probability values were calculated to rank the treatments examined, and clustering analysis was used to compare the effects of CHIs on different outcomes. Results: A total of 389 studies involving 31,263 patients and 16 CHIs were included. The 16 CHIs were: Aidi injection (ADI), Huachansu injection (HCSI), oil of Ophiopogon injection (OOMI), disodium cantharidinate and vitamin B6 injection (DCI), Shenfu injection (SFI), Shenmai injection (SMI), Shenqi Fuzheng injection (SQFZI), Chansu injection (CSI), Delisheng injection (DLSI), Fufang Kushen injection (FFKSI), Huangqi injection (HQI), Kangai injection (KAI), Kanglaite injection (KLTI), Shengmai injection (SI), Xiangguduotang injection (XGDTI), and Xiaoaiping injection (XAPI). The results of the network meta-analysis showed that, with WM treatment as a co-intervention, CSI was most likely to improve the disease control rate (SUCRA = 80.90%), HQI had the highest probability of being the best option for improving the survival quality score (SUCRA = 82.60%), DCI had the highest probability of reducing the incidence of gastrointestinal adverse reactions (SUCRA = 85.50%), HCSI + WM had the highest probability of reducing the incidence of thrombocytopenia (SUCRA = 91.30%), while SMI had the highest probability of reducing the incidence of leukopenia (SUCRA = 79.10%). Conclusion: CHIs combined with WM is proved to be more effective than WM alone, which may be beneficial to NSCLC patients. SMI + WM and DCI + WM are most likely the optimal CHI to improve disease control rates, survival quality score, and reduce adverse effects. This study has limitations; therefore, higher quality RCTs and real-world evidence are required to support our conclusions.

Abstract
Compound kushen injection is an effective traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of lung cancer. However, its influence on the survival and prognosis of patients with lung adenocarcinoma patients was less studied; especially its pharmacological mechanism remains to be further elucidated. In the present study, we adopted a network pharmacology (NP)-based approach to screening effective compounds, screening and predicting target genes, analyzing biological functions and pathways, constructing a regulatory network and protein interaction network, and screening the key targets. Moreover, mass survival analysis and molecular docking were conducted. In the end, 35 key compounds and four possible central target genes were screened out, which could be used for the treatment of lung adenocarcinoma and affected the survival and prognosis of patients with lung adenocarcinoma. In addition, their key compounds had good docking affinity. Enrichment analysis showed that CKI might affect the treatment and prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma patients by regulating the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, TNF signaling pathway, non-small cell lung cancer, Hepatitis C, etc. We discussed the pharmacological mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets of CKI in the treatment of lung adenocarcinoma, which verified the effect of CKI on the prognosis and survival of patients. The present study might promote the further clinical application of CKI and provide a theoretical basis for further experimental studies.

Abstract
Scoliosis is a spinal disease in which the Cobb angle is >10°. Scoliosis treatment can be surgical or conservative, and clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for conservative treatments have been updated since 2006. There have been several articles regarding the efficacy and safety of Korean medicine (KM) in treating scoliosis, but there are no CPGs. Our study investigated the current clinical practice using a survey for the future establishment of KM-CPGs. The survey mainly comprised clinical practice status, diagnosis, treatment, progress and prognosis, and perception of KM on scoliosis, with reference to existing surveys of other musculoskeletal disorders and scoliosis-related articles. A web-based survey was conducted from February 16, 2021 to February 28, 2021. We found that 60% of KM doctors (KMDs) respondents treated patients with scoliosis, and they valued radiographical measurements and scoliosis-related factors in the diagnosis. KMDs used multiple KM treatments, including acupuncture, Chuna, cupping, pharmacopuncture, and herbal medicine, and they emphasized the importance of KM more in nonstructural scoliosis than in structural scoliosis. Although the perception of the prognosis of scoliosis was in agreement with that suggested by previous guidelines, KMDs showed outstanding focus on reduction of symptoms of scoliosis and improvement of quality of life. Despite some limitations, including low participation and the need for consulting other medical practitioners, our study may be helpful for the development of KM-CPGs because it is the first to analyze the perceptions of KMDs on scoliosis and to collect preliminary data that are of significance for preparing clinical guidelines.

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of “highly exposed Chinese herbal medicine” combined with apatinib as maintenance treatment following first-line or second-line chemotherapy in patients with ES-SCLC. A total of 23 patients with ES-SCLC were included in this single-arm prospective study (ChiCTR2100045255). “Highly exposed Chinese herbal medicine” combined with apatinib was administered each day after the chemotherapy for maintenance treatment. The primary endpoint of the study was median PFS, while the secondary endpoints included median OS, DCR, ORR, AE, and the association of “highly exposed Chinese herbal medicine” with PFS and OS. Three and 16 patients achieved partial response (PR) and stable disease (SD), respectively, and four patients were with disease progression (PD). The ORR of the patients was 13.0%, DCR was 83.0%, median PFS was 5.0 months, and median OS was 18.0 months. The major AE included secondary hypertension and hand-foot syndrome. Oral intake of Chinese herbal medicine for ≥ 6 months was associated with longer PFS. Hand-foot syndrome was an independent predictive factor for PFS. The statistical analysis suggested no independent influencing factors for OS. “Highly exposed Chinese herbal medicine” combined with apatinib is effective and relatively safe as the maintenance treatment for ES-SCLC patients who undergo first-line or second-line chemotherapy.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To study the mechanism of Chinese herbal medicine Fuzheng Kang'ai Formula (, FZKA) on tumor microenvironment (TME). METHODS CIBERSORTx was used for analysis of TME. Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology and Analysis Platform was applied to identify compounds-targets network and the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) was employed to identify the differential expression genes (DEGs) between tumor and paracancerous tissues in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) from TCGA-LUAD. Additionally, DEGs with prognosis in LUAD was calculated by univariable and multivariate Cox regression. The core targets of FZKA were analyzed in lung adenocarcinoma TME. Protein-protein interaction database was employed to predict down-stream of target. Quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction was employed for biological experiment in A549, H1299 and PC9 cell lines. RESULTS The active and resting mast cells were significantly associated with prognosis of LUAD (P<0.05). Of the targets, CCNA2 as an important target of FZKA (hazard ratio=1.41, 95% confidential interval: 1.01-2.01, P<0.05) was a prognostic target and significantly associated with mast cells. CCNA2 was positively correlated with mast cell activation and negatively correlated with mast cell resting state. BCL1L2, ACTL6A and ITGAV were down-stream of CCNA2, which were validated by qRT-PCR in A549 cell. CONCLUSION FZKA could directly bind to CCNA2 and inhibit tumor growth by regulating CCNA2 downstream genes and TME of NSCLC closely related to CCNA2.

Abstract
As an important part of complementary and alternative medicine, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been applied to treat a host of diseases for centuries. Over the years, with the incidence rate of human colorectal cancer (CRC) increasing continuously and the advantage of TCM gradually becoming more prominent, the importance of TCM in both domestic and international fields is also growing with each passing day. However, the unknowability of active ingredients, effective substances, and the underlying mechanisms of TCM against this malignant tumor greatly restricts the translation degree of clinical products and the pace of precision medicine. In this review, based on the characteristics of TCM and the oral administration of most ingredients, we herein provide beneficial information for the clinical utilization of TCM in the prevention and treatment of CRC and retrospect the current preclinical studies on the related active ingredients, as well as put forward the research mode for the discovery of active ingredients and effective substances in TCM, to provide novel insights into the research and development of innovative agents from this conventional medicine for CRC treatment and assist the realization of precision medicine.

Abstract
Lung cancer is the most leading cause of cancer mortality throughout the world, of which about 85% cases comprise the non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Estrogen and estrogen receptors are known to be involved in the pathogenesis and development of lung cancer. Dioscorea oppositifolia L. is a traditional Chinese medicine and a nutritious food, and can be an excellent candidate as an anti-cancer agent owing to its estrogen-like effects. However, the stems and leaves of D. oppositifolia L. are piled up in the field as a waste, causing environmental pollution and waste of resources. In the present study, a new diphenylethane (D1) was isolated from the stems and leaves of D. oppositifolia L. It was observed that D1 reduced the cell viability, migration, energy metabolism, and induced apoptosis in the A549 cells. Mechanistic studies showed that D1 reduced the STAT3 nuclear localization and downregulated the expression of the STAT3 target genes like Mcl-1, Bcl-xL and MMP-2 that are involved in the cell survival and mobility. Moreover, our results indicated that D1 exhibited estrogenic activities mediated by ERβ, and antagonising ERβ decreased the cytotoxic effect of D1 in A549 cells. In addition, inhibition of the nuclear translocation of STAT3 did not interfere with the binding of D1 and ERβ. However, after antagonizing ERβ, the nuclear translocation of STAT3 increased, thereby demonstrating that STAT3 was the downstream signaling molecule of ERβ. In conclusion, the D1 mediated anti-NSCLC in vitro effects or at least in part can be attributed to the ERβ-STAT3 signaling. Our findings suggest the role of D1 in treating NSCLC on a molecular level, and can help to improve the comprehensive utilization rate of D. oppositifolia L.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Fritillariae cirrhosae (FC), referred to'Chuan beimu'in China. As an important edible and medicinal plant, the bulbs of F.cirrhosae is used traditionally in the treatment of pulmonary diseases associated with lung heat, inflammation and tumors. In the study, we investigated the effect of aqueous extract of FC (FC-AE) and elucidated its mechanism in non-small cell lung cancer A549 cells and a xenograft model of nude mice. MATERIALS AND METHODS CCK-8 and plate colony formation assay were used to evaluate the effect of FC-AE in A549 cells in vitro, and the gene expression profile of FC-AE on A549 cells was assessed by RNA sequencing system. Then, the effects of FC-AE on cell cycle and apoptosis of A549 cells were analyzed by flow cytometry. In combination with RNA-seq data, RT-PCR and western blot were used to evaluate the expression of proteins related to apoptosis and immune regulation. A xenograft model of nude mice was used to assess the effect of FC-AE in vivo. RESULTS CCK-8 and plate cloning assays showed that FC-AE inhibited the proliferation and colony formation of A549 cells. A549 cells treated with FC-AE can triggered apoptosis. GO and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis of RNA-seq data showed that most of the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were related to immune response, apoptosis and cell cycle process. Several immune and apoptotic DEGs were identified by qRT-PCR which were consistented with RNA-seq data. In nude mice, FC-AE reduced the tumor size and promoted the secretion of cytokines IL12 and IFNγ. FC-AE up-regulated the two members (STAT1 and STAT4) of STATs and their target genes (IFNγ and IL-12, respectively) protein expressions, and actively regulates Bcl-2/Bax family proteins which resulted in cellular apoptosis in A549 cells. CONCLUSION Our finding suggests that FC-AE mediates apoptosis through a STAT1 and STAT4-mediated co-regulatory network, which may be the key novel mechanism for its antitumor activity. The F. cirrhosa may be a promising antitumor drug for modulating immune responses to improve cancer therapy.

Abstract
Lung cancer is a malignant tumor characterized by a rapid proliferation rate, less survivability, high mortality, and metastatic potential. This review focuses on updated research about the clinical application of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) as an adjuvant therapy to lung cancer treatment and the mechanisms of TCM effect on lung cancer in vitro and in vivo. We summarized the recent 5 years of different research progress on clinical applications and antitumor mechanisms of TCM in the treatment of lung cancer. As a potent adjuvant therapy, TCM could enhance conventional treatments (chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and epidermal growth factor receptors [EGFRs] tyrosine kinase inhibitors [TKIs]) effects as well as provide synergistic effects, enhance chemotherapy drugs chemosensitivity, reverse drug resistance, reduce adverse reactions and toxicity, relieve patients’ pain and improve quality of life (QOL). After treating with TCM, lung cancer cells will induce apoptosis and/or autophagy, suppress metastasis, impact immune reaction, and therapeutic effect of EGFR-TKIs. Therefore, TCM is a promisingly potent adjuvant therapy in the treatment of lung cancer and its multiple mechanisms are worthy of an in-depth study.

Abstract
Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been developed for thousands of years with its various biological activities. The interest in TCM in tumor prevention and treatment is rising with its synergistic effect on tumor cells and tumor immunosuppressive microenvironment (TIM). Characteristic of TCM fits well within the whole system and multi-target cancer treatment. Herein we discuss the underlying mechanisms of TCM actions in TIM via regulating immunosuppressive cells, including restoring the antigen presentation function of dendritic cells, enhancing NK cells-mediated killing activity, restraining the functions of myeloid cell-derived suppressor cells, and inhibiting cancer-associated fibroblasts. TCM also regulates tumor progression through enhancing immune response, preventing immune escape and inducing cell death of tumor cells, which triggers immune response in nearby cells. In addition, we discuss TCM in clinical applications and the advantages and disadvantages of TCM in cancer prevention and treatment, as well as current therapeutic challenges and strategies. It might be helpful for understanding the therapeutic potential of TCM for cancer in clinic.

Abstract
Background Our previous clinical study has shown that Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) Fuzheng Kang-Ai (FZKA) decoction is effective in treating advanced lung cancer patients through prolonging the drug resistance to Gefitinib (GFTN). Our basic study found that FZKA decoction could enhance the inhibition effect of GFTN in lung cancer by inactivating PI3K/Akt pathway. Moreover, our recent work showed that FZKA induced lung cancer cell apoptosis via STAT3/Bcl-2/Caspase-3 pathway. Thus in this study, we aim to elucidate how FZKA enhances the effect of GFTN in lung cancer from the perspective of cell apoptosis. Methods Cell proliferation and colony formation assay were performed to detect the cell growth inhibition. Flow cytometry and TUNEL assay were carried out to test the cell apoptosis. Mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) assay was done to measure the alteration of MMP. Caspase-3/-9 activity assay was used to test the activity of caspase-3/-9. Western blot and qRT-PCR were done to detect the expression of STAT3 and Bcl-2 family as well as Caspase-3/-9 and Cyt-C at protein and mRNA levels, respectively. Transient transfection was performed to silence STAT3 using siSTAT3. Animal model was done to validate the molecular mechanisms in vivo and immunohistochemistry was done to detect the expression of Bax and Caspase-3. Results Firstly, our results showed that FZKA enhanced the inhibition effect of GFTN in lung cancer both in vitro and in vivo. Secondly, cell apoptosis was enhanced when treating lung cancer cells with both FZKA and GFTN, a process involving the mitochondria and the Bcl-2 family. And Bcl-2 family was involved in this process. Interestingly, STAT3 plays a critical role on mediating the above process. Last but not the least, the enhanced effect of cell apoptosis induction of GFTN by FZKA was validated in animal model. Conclusion Our findings conclude that Fuzheng Kang-Ai decoction enhances the effect of GFTN-induced cell apoptosis in lung cancer through the mitochondrial pathway, providing a novel molecular mechanism by which FZKA sensitizes to GFTN by delaying drug resistance in treating lung cancer patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gastric cancer (GC) is a common high-mortality disease, causing a serious social burden. Traditional Chinese medicine has been utilized to prevent and treat GC for many years but its effects remain unclear. The aim of our study is to elucidate the anti-tumor effects and the possible mechanism of Jianpi Yangzheng Xiaozheng decoction. METHODS/DESIGN This is a prospective, multicenter, randomized controlled trial continuing 1.5 years. Two hundred ten eligible patients will be randomly divided into 2 groups, the chemotherapy alone and the chemotherapy combined with JPYZXZ group at a ratio of 1:2. All patients will receive the treatment for 24 weeks and follow up for 1.5 years. The primary outcomes are one-year survival rate, progression-free survival, and overall survival (OS), while the secondary outcomes are immune related hematology test, objective response rate, tumor makers, traditional Chinese medicine syndrome points, fatigue scale, and quality of life scale. All of these outcomes will be analyzed at the end of the trail. DISCUSSION This study will provide the objective evidence for the efficacy and safety of Jianpi Yangzheng Xiaozheng decoction in advanced GC. Furthermore, it will be helpful to form a therapeutic regimen in advanced GC by the combination of traditional medicine and western medicine.Trail registration: ChiCTR1900028147.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To study the effect and mechanism of Huayu Wan (, HYW) in combination of chemotherapy of tumor treatment. METHODS HYW serum was added in Lewis cells to assess its impact on fluorescent doxorubicin delivery in vitro. Then, Lewis tumor cells was implanted in C57BL/6 mice via xenograft transplantation. Tumor growth was measured and signal intensity corresponding to blood flow was assessed by laser doppler perfusion imaging (LDPI). Finally, the effect of HYW on the effificacy of doxorubicin was studied. RESULTS HYW can improve the transfer of fluorescent doxorubicin into cells. The blood flow signal in the tumor tissues of the HYW group was higher than that of the control group (P<0.01). Furthermore, HYW improved drug delivery of doxorubicin to tumor tissues, and this activity was associated with HYW-induced microvascular proliferation (P<0.01). CONCLUSIONS HYW can promote microangiogenesis and increase blood supply in tumor tissues, which in turn may increase the risk of metastasis. At the same time, HYW increases drug delivery and improves the effificacy of chemotherapy drugs through vascular proliferation. Therefore, rational judgment must be exercised when considering applying HYW to an antitumor regimen.

Integrated Chinese Herbal Medicine and Western Medicine on the Survival in Patients with Colorectal Cancer: A Retrospective Study of Medical Records. Abstract
Recent studies suggested that Traditional Chinese Medicine could play a beneficial role in conventional cancer treatment. The aim of this retrospective cohort study was to investigate the effect of Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) combined with Western medicine on the survival of patients with colorectal cancer. A retrospective cohort study was conducted on patients with newly diagnosed colorectal cancer identified from the Dalin Tzu Chi Hospital Cancer Registry Database in 2004–2014. Combining with the medical records of the study hospital, patients were classified into CHM users and CHM nonusers. Kaplan–Meier analyses and Cox proportional hazards regression analyses were used to investigate the survival between CHM users and CHM nonusers. A total of 535 patients with colorectal cancer were included in the study with 147 of them were CHM users. The log-rank test for Kaplan–Meier survival curve revealed a statistically significant difference between the survival of CHM users and CHM nonusers (P=0.006). Results from multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that CHM use was significantly associated with better survival (adjusted hazard ratio = 0.54, 95% CI = 0.38 to 0.77). In addition, the CHM formulae Jia Wei Xiao Yao San, Zhi Bah Di Huang Wan, Ping Wei San, and Qui Pi Tang were significantly associated with better survival. In conclusion, findings from this retrospective cohort study indicated that integrated CHM and Western medicine could improve survival in patients with colorectal cancer. Additional research on integrating TCM with Western medicine to improve cancer survival is warranted.

Abstract
Complementary and integrative medicine (CIM) has been used for improving health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in patients with cancer. The objective of this review is to evaluate the effects of CIMs on the HRQOL of cancer patients. We identified randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving patients with cancer at any stage by retrieving electronic databases from the inception to February 14, 2018 (Systematic Review Registration: PROSPERO CRD42018091609). The main outcomes were HRQOL scores and related domains such as physical well-being scores. The standardized mean difference was used for the analysis and heterogeneity was assessed with the I 2 statistic. A Bayesian framework was used to estimate the ranking order of efficacy in HRQOL change. Finally, 34 RCTs with 3,010 patients were included. As a whole, the results showed clearly superior efficacy of CIM in improving HRQOL. For different domains of HRQOL, different CIM interventions may play different roles. The ranking order of efficacy in change HRQOL was qigong plus mindfulness, Chinese herbal medicine, multimodal complementary medicine, qigong, nutritional supplement, mindfulness, acupuncture, yoga, and massage, and it was different among different domains. There was no evidence of publication bias. In conclusion, CIM may improve the HRQOL of cancer patients. More studies, especially focusing on male cancer patients, are needed to increase the confidence level of our findings.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE The Chinese herbal medicine Fuzheng Kang-Ai (FZKA) decoction obtained from Guangdong Kangmei Pharmaceutical Company, which contains 12 components with different types of constituents, has been used as part of the adjuvant treatment of lung cancer for decades. We previously showed that FZKA decoction enhances the growth inhibition of epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR-TKI)-resistant non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells by suppressing glycoprotein mucin 1 (MUC1) expression. However, the molecular mechanism underlying the therapeutic potential, particularly in sensitizing or/and enhancing the anti-lung cancer effect of EGFR-TKIs, remains unclear. MATERIALS AND METHODS Cell viability was measured using 3-(4, 5-diMEThylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) and 5-ethynyl -2'-deoxyuridine (EdU) assays. Western blot analysis was performed to examine the protein expressions of DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1), specificity protein 1 (SP1), and MET, an oncogene encoding for a trans-membrane tyrosine kinase receptor activated by the hepatocyte growth factor (HGF). The expression of MET mRNA was measured by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). Exogenous expression of DNMT1 and SP1, and MET were carried out by transient transfection assays. The promoter activity of MET was tested using Dual-luciferase reporter assays. A nude mouse xenografted tumor model further evaluated the effect of the combination of FZKA decoction and erlotinib in vivo. RESULTS The combination of FZKA and erlotinib produced an even greater inhibition of NSCLC cell growth. FZKA decreased the expressions of DNMT1, SP1, and MET (c-MET) proteins, and the combination of FZKA and erlotinib demonstrated enhanced responses. Interestingly, there was a mutual regulation of DNMT1 and SP1. In addition, exogenously expressed DNMT1 and SP1 blocked the FZKA-inhibited c-MET expression. Moreover, excessive expressed MET neutralized FZKA-inhibited growth of NSCLC cells. FZKA decreased the mRNA and promoter activity of c-MET, which was not observed in cells with ectopic expressed DNMT1 gene. Similar findings were observed in vivo. CONCLUSION FZKA decreases MET gene expression through the repression and mutual regulation of DNMT1 and SP1 in vitro and in vivo. This leads to inhibit the growth of human lung cancer cells. The combination of FZKA and EGFR-TKI erlotinib exhibits synergy in this process. The regulatory loops among the DNMT1, SP1 and MET converge in the overall effects of FZKA and EGFR-TKI erlotinib. This in vitro and in vivo study clarifies an additional novel molecular mechanism underlying the anti-lung cancer effects in response to the combination of FZKA and erlotinib in gefitinib-resistant NSCLC cells.

Abstract
Background: To determine the clinical activity and safety of Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) combined with epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKI) in patients with advanced pulmonary adenocarcinoma (ADC) and the ability of CHM combined with EGFR-TKI to activate EGFR mutations. Methods: Three hundred and fifty-four patients were randomly assigned to EGFR-TKI (erlotinib 150 mg/d, gefitinib 250 mg/d, or icotinib 125 mg tid/d) plus CHM (TKI+CHM, N = 185) or EGFR-TKI plus placebo (TKI+placebo, N = 169). Progression-free survival (PFS) was the primary end point; the secondary end points were overall survival (OS), objective response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR), quality of life [Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Lung (FACT-L) and Lung Cancer Symptom Scale (LCSS)], and safety. Results: The median PFS was significantly longer for the TKI+CHM group (13.50 months; 95% CI, 11.20–16.46 months) than with the EGFR-TKI group (10.94 months; 95% CI, 8.97–12.45 months; hazard ratio, 0.68; 95% CI, 0.51–0.90; P = 0.0064). The subgroup analyses favored TKI+CHM as a first-line treatment (15.97 vs. 10.97 months, P = 0.0447) rather than as a second-line treatment (11.43 vs. 9.23 months, P = 0.0530). Patients with exon 19 deletion had a significantly longer PFS than with 21 L858R. The addition of CHM to TKI significantly improved the ORR (64.32% vs. 52.66%, P = 0.026) and QoL. Drug-related grade 1–2 adverse events were less common with TKI+CHM. Conclusions: TKI+CHM improved PFS when compared with TKI alone in patients with EGFR mutation-positive advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Abstract
BACKGROUND Chronic inflammation plays a significant role in the occurrence and development of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Hydroxysafflor yellow A (HSYA), a chemical compound of the yellow color pigments extracted from the safflower, has been widely used in clinical treatment with positive antioxidation, anti-inflammation, and antitumor effects. However, the role and underlying mechanisms of HYSA on development and progress in inflammation-mediated NSCLC are unknown. METHODS Cell counting kit-8, colony formation, EdU, cell apoptosis, wound healing, Transwell migration and invasion, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays; flow cytometry; and Western blotting were conducted using human NSCLC cell lines A549 and H1299. RESULTS Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) significantly promoted the proliferation and enhanced colony formation of A549 and H1299 cells, while HYSA notably reversed the effects of LPS. HYSA induced apoptosis of LPS-mediated A549 and H1299 cells in a dose dependent manner; and remarkably suppressed migration, invasion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), significantly regulated production of LPS-induced inflammation cytokines, and downregulated protein expression of PI3K/Akt/mTOR and ERK/MAPK signaling pathways in LPS-induced A549 and H1299 cells. Furthermore, PI3K (LY294002) and ERK (SCH772984) inhibitors remarkably inhibited proliferation, migration, invasion, and EMT, and induced apoptosis in LPS-mediated A549 and H1299 cells. These effects were even more obvious in the presence of HYSA and LY294002 or SCH772984 compared to those of either agent alone. CONCLUSION HYSA suppressed LPS-mediated proliferation, migration, invasion, and EMT in A549 and H1299 cells by inhibiting the PI3K/Akt/mTOR and ERK/MAPK signaling pathways, indicating that HYSA may be a potential candidate to treat inflammation-mediated NSCLC.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aims to evaluate the frequency of use of CAM therapies among cancer patients, the types of CAM therapies they used, the demographic and clinical factors affecting their tendency to use CAM therapies, and the difference between quality of life of CAM user and non-user patients. DESIGN This cross-sectional study was carried out between March and June 2016 in an education and research hospital located in Mugla, Turkey. A CAM use questionnaire, the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer-Quality of Life Questionnaire (EORTC QLQ-C30 version 3.0) and the Nightingale Symptom Assessment Scale (N-SAS) were administered to 211 patients. RESULTS Among all the participating patients, 46.4% were CAM users. The most commonly used CAM therapy was herbal products. The rate of CAM use was higher among the patients with a low education level (P = 0.004). No statistically significant difference was found between the quality-of-life scores of the CAM user and non-user patients. CONCLUSION Almost half of the cancer patients used CAM therapy, with the most commonly used CAM therapy being herbal products. Doctors/nurses should assess patients in terms of the CAM therapies they use to determine their possible side effects and drug interactions. Further research should be performed to determine the relationship between CAM therapy and quality of life.

Abstract
Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) has been widely used in the treatment of advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), but their efficacy and safety remain controversial. We sought to comprehensively aggregate and evaluate the available evidence on the efficacy and safety of the combination treatment with CHM and epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) in NSCLC patients. Our exhausted and systematical searching strategy yielded 64 related randomized controlled trials involving 4384 patients. Compared with EGFR-TKIs therapy alone, meta-analysis showed significant differences favoring the combination treatment in progression-free survival ([Formula: see text]), median survival time ([Formula: see text]), one-year survival rate ([Formula: see text]), two-year survival rate ([Formula: see text]), probability of severe toxicities ([Formula: see text]), objective response rate ([Formula: see text]), Karnofsky performance status ([Formula: see text]), and improvement in percentage of CD3[Formula: see text] T lymphocyte ([Formula: see text]) and CD4[Formula: see text] T lymphocyte ([Formula: see text]). Though these results require further confirmation, they are prone to show a potential therapeutic value of CHM in improving the clinical effect, overcoming the drug resistance and toxicities as an adjunctive therapy to EGFR-TKIs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The main objective of this study was to assess whether treatment with epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) combined with Chinese herbal medicine (CHM), can improve the five-year survival rate in patients suffering from advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), compared to patients treated by EGFR-TKIs alone. INTERVENTIONS AND MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES The study is based on information in the sub-dataset of the National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) from years 2000 to 2010, during which time a total of 14,244 patients were diagnosed with NSCLC in Taiwan. After selection by exclusion criteria and matching process, 2,616 NSCLC patients were included in the study. Statistical analysis was utilized to evaluate the differences in characteristic distribution, and to compare the survival rates between the CHM cohort and non-CHM cohort. RESULTS Patients with advanced NSCLC using CHM as an adjunct therapy exhibited a significantly improved survival rate [hazard ration (HR) = 0.8; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.73-0.87, p value<0.001], compared with non-CHM users. Based on a survival analysis by Kaplan-Meier method, the 5-year survival rate of CHM users was 4.9% higher, with the most notable difference being an elevated 2-year survival rate of up to 12.75%. In addition to the survival rate analysis, we provide the ten most used single herbs and herbal formulas prescribed for patients with advanced NSCLC. CONCLUSIONS This nationwide retrospective cohort study provides evidence supporting CHM as an effective adjunctive therapy to ameliorate the side effects of target therapy and prolong the five-year survival rate of patients with advanced NSCLC.

Abstract
Decoction of Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) Fuzheng Kang-Ai (FZKA for short) has been applied as adjuvant treatment strategy in advanced lung cancer patients for decades. We previously showed that FZKA decoction inhibited proliferation of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells through activation of AMP-activated protein kinase alpha (AMPKα) signaling pathway, followed by inducing insulin-like growth factor (IGF) binding protein 1 (IGFBP1) and forkhead homeobox type O3a (FOXO3a) proteins, and enhanced the inhibition effect of gefitinib in lung cancer cell growth via inactivating PI3-K/Akt-mediated suppressing of cell surface-associated mucin-1 (MUC1) expression. In this study, we investigated the molecular mechanism by which FZKA decoction affected cell apoptosis in lung cancer cells. Our results show that FZKA induced apoptosis in lung cancer cells. Mechanistically, FZKA activated the caspase-3, PARP, and caspase-9 activities. Both antiapoptotic and proapoptotic proteins from Bcl-2 family were deregulated by FZKA exposure in lung cancer cells. In addition, FZKA reduced protein expressions of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) and Jun activation domain-binding protein 1 (Jab1), while it concomitantly increased p21 protein. Moreover, the inhibitor of caspase-3 resisted the effect of FZKA on induction of apoptosis. Finally, exogenous overexpression of STAT3 overcame FZKA-inhibited protein expressions of Bcl-2 and myeloid cell leukemia-1 (Mcl-1) as well as Bax and blocked FZKA-induced activities of caspase-3 and caspase-9. Our results show that FZKA decoction promotes lung cancer cell apoptosis through STAT3/Bcl-2/caspase-3 signaling pathways. This study unveils potential novel molecular mechanism by which FZKA controls growth of human lung cancer cells.

Abstract
Human apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease 1 (APE1) is a ubiquitous multifunctional protein, which possesses DNA repair and redox activities. High levels of APE1 are associated with chemo‑ and radioresistance, and poor prognosis in various types of cancer, including non‑small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Bu‑Fei decoction (BFD) is a traditional Chinese herbal formula, which is believed to supplement Qi, clear away heat and nourish the lungs. BFD and modified Bu‑Fei decoction (MBFD) have been used in China to treat patients with lung cancer. The present study aimed to evaluate the potential antitumor effects of BFD and MBFD on NSCLC in vitro and in vivo. In addition, the possible contribution of APE1 was examined. MTT assay was used to investigated the anti-tumor activity of BFD and MBFD on H1975 and H292 NSCLC cell lines. The DNA damage of cells in the control and the experimental groups was detected using comet assay. The in vivo anti-tumor effects of BFD and MBFD were evaluated in a NSCLC tumor nude mouse xenograft model. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR), reverse transcription‑quantitative PCR (RT‑qPCR) analysis and western blot analysis were applied to analyze the mRNA and protein expression levels of APE1 in H1975 and H292 cells, so as to the xenograft tumor tissues. The concentration of APE1 in mice plasma was determined using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). In vitro, BFD and MBFD inhibited the growth of cultured H1975 and H292 NSCLC cells. The results of a comet assay revealed that BFD and MBFD increased DNA damage. Furthermore, the expression levels of APE1 were decreased in response to BFD and MBFD at the mRNA and protein levels. In mice carrying NSCLC xenografts, BFD and MBFD inhibited tumor growth and decreased APE1 expression. In addition, in normal human lung bronchial epithelial BEAS‑2B cells, the half maximal inhibitory concentrations of BFD and MBFD were much higher compared with in NSCLC cells, and they had no effect on DNA damage. These results suggested that BFD and MBFD may inhibit the growth of NSCLC, possibly by inhibiting APE1 expression.

Effects of Shengmai injection add-on therapy to chemotherapy in patients with non-small cell lung cancer: a meta-analysis. Support Care Cancer 2018; 26:2103-2111. Abstract
PURPOSE Shengmai injection (SMI) has shown promising outcomes in the management of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This meta-analysis aimed to investigate the add-on effects of SMI to chemotherapy in NSCLC patients. METHODS A comprehensive literature search was performed in the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Embase, CNKI, VIP, and Wanfang up to December 2017. Only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating SMI in combination with chemotherapy versus chemotherapy alone in NSCLC patients were eligible. The outcome measures were quality of life, chemotherapy-induced grade 3/4 myelosuppression or gastrointestinal reactions, and objective tumor response (equals complete response plus partial response). Pooled risk ratio (RR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) was used to evaluate dichotomous and continuous outcome, respectively. RESULTS A total of 15 RCTs were included and analyzed. Meta-analysis showed that SMI combined with chemotherapy was associated with a significant improvement in Karnofsky Performance Status (RR 2.36; 95% CI 1.50-3.96) compared with the chemotherapy alone. Moreover, adjunctive treatment with SMI significantly reduced grade 3/4 myelosuppression (RR 0.61; 95% CI 0.46-0.81) and gastrointestinal reactions (RR 0.64; 95% CI 0.46-0.90). However, there was no significant difference in objective tumor response (RR 1.17; 95% CI 0.99-1.37) between two groups. CONCLUSIONS SMI add-on therapy appeared to be more effective in improving quality of life and reducing chemotherapy-induced adverse effects. However, more well-designed RCTs are warranted to confirm the findings of this meta-analysis because of the suboptimal methodological quality of the included trials.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The concept of maintenance therapy in cancer treatment is currently under debate because of modest survival benefits, added toxicity, economic considerations, and quality-of-life concerns. Traditional Chinese Medicine (tcm) is widely used in China for cancer patients, offering the advantages of low toxicity and enhancement of quality of life. However, no systematic reviews or meta-analyses have assessed the role of tcm as maintenance treatment for non-small-cell lung carcinoma. METHODS We searched the Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, the China National Knowledge Infrastructure, PubMed, embase, and the Cochrane Library databases for all eligible studies. The endpoints were overall survival (os), progression-free survival (pfs), the 1-year and 2-year survival rates, and performance status. Our meta-analysis used a fixed-effects model and a random-effects model for heterogeneity in the Stata software application (version 11.0: StataCorp LP, College Station, TX, U.S.A.), with the results expressed as hazard ratios (hrs) or risk ratios (rrs), with their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95% cis). RESULTS Sixteen randomized studies representing 1150 patients met the inclusion criteria. Compared with best supportive care, observation, or placebo, tcm as maintenance treatment was associated with a significant increase in os (hr: 0.49; 95% ci: 0.35 to 0.68; p < 0.001), pfs (hr: 0.66; 95% ci: 0.51 to 0.84; p = 0.001), and 2-year survival rate (rr: 0.63; 95% ci: 0.44 to 0.92, p = 0.017), and a significant improvement in performance status (rr: 0.68; 95% ci: 0.61 to 0.75; p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS For patients who show non-progression-including stable disease, partial response, or complete response-after first-line chemotherapy, including those with poor quality of life, oral Chinese herbal medicine can be considered an efficient and safe maintenance therapy strategy.

Abstract
Berberine (BBR), one of active alkaloid found in the rhizome, exhibited anti‐cancer properties. We have showed that BBR inhibited growth of non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells through mitogen‐activated protein kinase (MAPK)‐mediated increase in forkhead box O3a (FOXO3a). However, the in‐depth mechanism underlying the anti‐tumor effects still remained to be elucidated. Herein, we further confirmed that BBR not only induced cell cycle arrest, but also reduced migration and invasion of NSCLC cells. Mechanistically, we observed that BBR reduced 3‐phosphoinositide‐dependent protein kinase‐1 (PDPK1) and transcription factor SP1 protein expressions. Exogenously expressed SP1 overcame BBR‐inhibited PDPK1 expression. Moreover, BBR inhibited DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1) gene expression and overexpressed DNMT1 resisted BBR‐inhibited cell growth. Intriguingly, overexpressed PDPK1 antagonized BBR‐inhibited SP1 and DNMT1 expressions. Finally, metformin enhanced the effects of BBR both in vitro and in vivo. Collectively, we observe that BBR inhibits proliferation of NSCLC cells through inhibition of SP1 and PDPK1; this results in a reduction of DNMT1 expression. The interplay of PDPK1 and SP1 contributes to the inhibition of DNMT1 in response to BBR. In addition, there is a synergy of BBR and metformin. This study uncovers a new mechanism of BBR in combination with metformin for NSCLC‐associated therapy.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) Fuzheng Kang-Ai (FZKA for short) decoction has been used as adjuvant treatment strategies in lung cancer patients for decades. However, the molecular mechanism underlying the therapeutic potential especially in sensitizing the effect of EGFR-TKI gefitinib has not been well elucidated. MATERIALS AND METHODS Cell viability was detected by MTT assay. Cell cycle distribution was detected by flow cytometry. Western blot were used to examine phosphorylation and protein levels of Akt, p65, p50 and MUC1. The mRNA level of MUC1 was measured by qRT-PCR. Transient transfection experiments were used to overexpression of Akt, p65 and MUC1. Tumor xenograft and bioluminescent imaging experiments were carried out to confirm the in vitro findings. RESULTS Cell viability was inhibited by FZKA treatment and showed more significant when treated with FZKA and gefitinib in combine in lung cancer cells. FZKA induced the cell arrest at G0/G1 phase. Mechanistically, we showed that the phosphorylation of Akt, protein expressions of p65 and MUC1 were suppressed by FZKA and even more responses were observed in the FZKA and gefitinib combining. Overexpressed Akt overcame the effect of FZKA on p65 protein, and exogenously expressed p65 resisted the inhibitory effect of MUC1 protein expression by FZKA. On the contrary, while overexpressed MUC1 had no effect on p65 expression, it feedback increased phosphorylation of Akt, and more importantly, reversed the cell growth inhibition affected by FZKA. In line with the above, our results confirmed the synergistic effects of FZKA and gefitinib combination on tumor growth, the phosphorylation of Akt, and protein expression of p65 and MUC1 in vivo. CONCLUSION This study shows that FZKA decoction inhibits the growth of NSCLC cells through Akt-mediated inhibition of p65, followed by reducing the expression of MUC1. More importantly, there is a synergistic effect of FZKA decoction and gefitinib combination with greater suppression. The positive feedback regulatory loop of MUC1 to Akt signaling pathway further added the important role of MUC1 in mediating the overall responses of FZKA decoction in this process. The in vitro and in vivo study provides an additional and a novel mechanism by which the FZKA decoction enhances the growth inhibition of gefitinib in gefitinib-resistant NSCLC cells.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to develop a Self-Efficacy Scale for Rehabilitation Management designed specifically for postoperative lung cancer patients (SESPRM-LC) and to evaluate its psychometric properties. PATIENTS AND METHODS Based on the concept of self-management of chronic disease, items were developed from literature review and semistructured interviews of 10 lung cancer patients and screened by expert consultation and pilot testing. Psychometric evaluation was done with 448 postoperative lung cancer patients recruited from 5 tertiary hospitals in Fuzhou, China, by incorporating classical test theory and item response theory methods. RESULTS A 6-factor structure was illustrated by exploratory factor analysis and confirmed by confirmatory factor analysis, explaining 60.753% of the total variance. The SESPRM-LC achieved Cronbach's α of 0.694 to 0.893, 2-week test-retest reliability of 0.652 to 0.893, and marginal reliability of 0.565 to 0.934. The predictive and criterion validities were demonstrated by significant association with theoretically supported quality-of-life variables (r = 0.211-0.392, P < .01), and General Perceived Self-efficacy Scale (r = 0.465, P < .01), respectively. Item response theory analysis showed that the SESPRM-LC offers information about a broad range of self-efficacy measures and discriminates well between patients with high and low levels of self-efficacy. CONCLUSIONS We demonstrated initial support for the reliability and validity of the 27-item SESPRM-LC, as a developmentally appropriate instrument for assessing self-efficacy among lung cancer patients during postoperative rehabilitation.
