Abstract
BACKGROUND Complementary, alternative, and integrative medicine (CAIM) has become an increasingly popular supportive therapy option for patients with cancer. The objective of this study was to investigate how researchers and clinicians in the oncology field perceive CAIM. METHODS We conducted an online, anonymous, cross-sectional survey for researchers and clinicians who have published their work in oncology journals that are indexed in MEDLINE. The link to the survey was sent to 47, 991 researchers and clinicians whose contact information was extracted from their publications. The survey included various multiple-choice questions, and one open-ended question at the end to allow for any additional comments. RESULTS 751 respondents completed the survey, and they mostly identified themselves as researchers (n = 329, 45.13%), or as both researchers and clinicians (n = 332, 45.45%) in the field of oncology. Over half of the respondents perceive mind-body therapies (n = 354, 54.97%) to be the most promising CAIM category with regards to the prevention, treatment, and/or management of diseases related to oncology, and many respondents agreed that most CAIM therapies are safe (n = 218, 37.39%), and that clinicians should receive training on CAIM therapies via formal (n = 225, 38.59%) and supplemental education (n = 290, 49.83%). However, many respondents were unsure when asked if most CAIM therapies are effective (n = 202, 34.77%). CONCLUSIONS The findings from this study demonstrated great current interest in the use of CAIM in oncology. This information can serve as a foundation for conducting additional research and creating customized educational materials for researchers and clinicians in oncology.

Abstract
AIM Given the multifaceted nature of paediatric palliative care (PPC), integrative medicine and mind-body therapies, in particular, are increasingly used in this setting. However, to our knowledge, their use in PPC has never been specifically reviewed. Therefore, this work aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the application and possible beneficial effects of mind-body therapies in the PPC setting. METHODS Papers about the use of meditation and mindfulness, biofeedback, hypnosis, yoga, tai chi and qi gong, imagery, creative outlets, and art therapy in PPC were identified by browsing PubMed and CINHAL. RESULTS We found that the harmless nature of mind-body therapies has been extensively described, and available studies consistently show some benefits on the anxiety, stress, and quality of life of parents/caregivers and healthcare providers. However, well-grounded and robust evidence does not fully support the efficacy of mind-body therapies, especially in patients. CONCLUSION Considering the peculiarity of the PPC setting, we suggest that mind-body therapies should be further considered and properly investigated through larger controlled studies and according to the different populations of PPC children, as well as for parents, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.

Abstract
PURPOSE Children with cancer and survivors frequently report posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS), which are associated with volumetric changes in stress-sensitive brain regions, including the hippocampus. METHODS We examined the impact of a novel, 4-week martial-arts-based meditative intervention on cancer-related PTSS in 18 pediatric patients and survivors and whether baseline hippocampal volumes correlate with PTSS severity and/or PTSS changes over time. RESULTS Overall, PTSS did not significantly change from baseline to post-intervention. Smaller hippocampal volume was correlated with more severe re-experiencing PTSS at baseline, and greater reductions in PTSS post-intervention. CONCLUSIONS Together, hippocampal volume may be a biomarker of PTSS severity and intervention response. Identifying hippocampal volume as a potential biomarker for PTSS severity and intervention response may allow for more informed psychosocial treatments.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The primary objective was to determine if individualised yoga for hospitalised children receiving intensive chemotherapy was associated with less fatigue using the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory Multidimensional Fatigue Scale (PedsQL MFS) compared with iPad control. METHODS This was a multicentre randomised controlled trial of individualised yoga in paediatric patients aged 8-18 years who were inpatients receiving intensive chemotherapy for leukaemia, lymphoma or haematopoietic cell transplantation. Participants were randomised to yoga or iPad groups; allocated programme was delivered individually by trained yoga instructors 5 days/week for 21 days. The primary outcome was day 21 guardian-reported general fatigue using the PedsQL MFS. Secondary outcomes included day 21 PedsQL sleep/rest and cognitive fatigue, Fatigue Scale and PedsQL Acute Cancer Module, and systemic opioid administration. RESULTS The study was closed early for poor accrual when 125/210 planned participants had been enrolled and randomised to yoga (n=62) or iPad (n=63). Guardian-reported PedsQL MFS general fatigue scores on day 21 were not significantly different between groups (adjusted difference 7.2, 95% CI -2.6 to 16.9) in favour of yoga. However, day 21 cognitive fatigue (adjusted difference 9.0, 95% CI 0.9 to 17.1), cognitive problems (adjusted difference 11.2, 95% CI 3.5 to 19.0) and communication (adjusted difference 10.6, 95% CI 0.8 to 20.4) were significantly better in the yoga compared with the iPad group. There were no significant differences in the other secondary outcomes including PedsQL sleep/rest fatigue (adjusted difference 4.9, 95% CI -3.5 to 13.3). CONCLUSIONS The effect of individualised yoga on general fatigue is uncertain in paediatric patients receiving intensive chemotherapy. However, yoga significantly improved cognitive fatigue and cognitive problems. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER NCT02134782.

Abstract
As the prevalence of childhood and adolescent anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns continues to rise, there has been an unprecedented increase in support of mind-body practices like yoga, dance, meditation, mindfulness, aerobic exercise, and more-in part driven by the mental health burden imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. While a growing body of evidence supports the safety and effectiveness of mind-body approaches, gaps in funding for and empirical research on mechanistic underpinnings, methodology development to assess multi-component therapeutic practices, dissemination and implementation, and diversity in researchers, practitioners, and recipients remain. As a consequence, the neurobiological impacts of mind-body techniques are not well understood nor broadly accepted as standard forms of care by clinicians and insurers-often being considered as 'alternative' rather than 'complementary' or 'integrative'. In this commentary, we summarize work from our labs and others highlighting the promise of mind-body approaches for improving mental health in youth, in line with the National Institute of Mental Health's strategic plan to address health disparities. We offer a potential framework for implementation and research-the Expressive Therapies Continuum. We also propose solutions to key research and policy gaps, that by could have positive public health impacts for those who are struggling and to prevent emergence of psychiatric illness, especially in developing youth.
